Ship Inn in Torbay

Been coming in here a fair bit lately.. A decent place to visit... Good atmosphere... Decent staff if you get a night when the good staff are on... Can't complain about the alcohol and very reasonably priced......

Today I went with 4 other people and I am very impressed with the food .the food was fresh, Hot and perfectly cooked as asked because I had steak. All meals around the table were very good . Not one complaint. Highly recommend people to try . Very clean and nice atmosphere. We all had a lovely time and will be back for sure . Thank you

MUST VISIT!!!, Great Service, Great food!. We have been coming here regularly since Jan. Sara and her team have always been very welcoming and accommodating to freinds and family especially our low functioning autistic son. It's very family friendly providing fab food and great value for money (especially if using the app :-)). Tracey and the others also do a fantastic job working hard keeping tables tidy and very clean providing great service. Great place to visit and would highly recommend to others, keep up the good work 👍

The attitude of the bar staff was hostile and abrasive. Don’t believe the menu photos. There’s a reason the prices look too good to be true- they are not. Chips are measly side dishes- one later, not piled high. Stone cold. Vegan ribs - cold, sickly gunge thrown at it. Just appalling. Will never come back

Service was slick and always with a smile, steak was tasty and cooked to perfection , desert was yum and prices were very reasonable.

Absoultey atrocious, customer service skills are non existent, food is microwaved. Needs shut down. It was the worst £22 I’ve ever spent

I went for lunch today and i ordered the Old Faithful beef burger with a side salad it was to die for, the burger was cooked to perfection and so succulent the french fries were crispy and side salad so lovely, i passed my compliments to the Chef via Meghan i had a lovely lunch, thanks to Sarah and the team. Went along this evening on spec for my Birthday, had to wait for a table, no problem, had to wait for the food, no problem, food was great, very good value and piping hot, Absolutely Marvellous Experience 👍

Came in here a few days ago and wish I'd gone somewhere else to be honest.. My missus had nothing to complain about.. Her meal was fine.. I had a steak and it was as tough as old boots.. Not nice at all... Average food... Better places in paignton to visit..

This is the 3rd time my husband and I have visited this pub/restaurant, each time we have a couple of drinks and a meal. The service and ambience is very nice. The food is lovely, comes out fast and hot. Can't fault the staff and the food... Wonderful.

Sadly ship seems to have gone downhill in terms of meals, very disappointed...meals were very uninviting, shriveled up chicken breast with over done BBQ sauce on top, tiny gammon steak Great staff though.

Was staying at the local Travel Lodge for a couple of nights. The Ship is a ten minute slow walk from the sea front. Great food great drinks outstanding staff. 6 of us in the party visiting. Everything was absolutely perfect.

Had Sunday dinner, dad enjoyed his and his pint of Doom Bar. I had vegetarian Sunday lunch 😋. Great service from Daniel. Great welcome from Sara.

Booked here for evening meal , food was excellent and well presented staff very friendly. A special mention to the young staff member Jack his customer service skills are on another level and his manners are impeccable. This guy is a credit to the Company, no doubt he will go far in life 👏

Waited over a hour for our meal shocking so we asked for our money back , the manager who came over was very sacastic to us saying it’s only been 40 mins , where it was clearly over a hour and many people were saying the same thing at there tables ,we said to her why isn’t there more seat , her reply was she took on one new one , which clearly wasn’t enough staff , won’t be going back and also will contact head office over the sacastic older woman in charge.

Rude staff, dirty, things missing off menu, app not working. I live locally and this place has just gone down hill more and more over the last decade used to be a great place, cheap & cheerful food and live music good drinks. The owners should be ashamed of what they let this place become.

Nice location and short walk from beach front. Food was great and the team was good with my allergen issues. Highly recommended

Ordered 2 hotdogs with chips and a burger and chips. Burger was undercooked and cold, and the hot dogs were burnt one end and under cooked the other with hardly any chips. Total waste of money. Won't be coming back. go elsewhere

Visited today 1/6/2023, this pub needs a good shake up , ordered veg sausage and mash and a hunters chicken,no mash potato which is what is with sausage got chips instead,can believe no mash and no jacket potatoes worst of all gravy like water no taste and cold, hunters chicken was also cold,must be the worst place to eat in Torbay! Oh and toilet could do with a good clean.

Nice pub great menu attentive staff. Steak not cooked as we asked for and my chicken wasn't cooked atall to my absolute horror. Staff quick to address the issue with a free drink and a refund only for that meal, I was expecting a refund for both meals as a gesture of good will to be honest. I wouldn't return. Thankfully I wasn't ill.

Fantastic value for money. I can’t believe the quality of food for the price! Excellent service from Tracey who couldn’t do enough for us.

Great food for the price and kids eat for a pound standard pub food worth the price paid. Would return maybe just not for a birthday they could of made more of an atmosphere with the cake. One of the sparklers had already finished by the time the cake came out.

Went in on Saturday to watch the rugby. Was fast service at the bar, ordered food and only had to wait a few minutes for it to come out.

Service slightly better than has been in the past actually had a member of staff co.e over while we were eating to make sure that everything was okay for us... Food has always been hot and tasted fresh

We visited the Ship Inn whilst on holiday. We had prebooked, not very welcoming by front of house staff, seated at a high table ordered our food,food arrived given no cutlery or condiments so had to ask for it, my meal was swimming in water from onions making chips soggy, no checkback from staff, missing sauce from main meal. Not a good experience at all. Wouldn't recommend.

Lady on the door was amazing, really helpful. We went in ordered our food. I had the American platter the chicken was Luke warm, rack of ribs had the slightest drizzle of bbq sauce on it and the wings was really over cooked and burnt. I showed another waitress the wings and her answer was... eww I’m sorry she took them away and that was the last we heard. My son had a all day breakfast again Luke warm and dry toast with no butter. But wife said gammon was perfect.

I have used this pub for 50 years, and I was made to feel unwanted and in the way by the manageress on the door. Now, I appreciate things are different now and due to Covid 19 there are some necessary restrictions. I made the mistake of arriving early before the rest of my party of 8. I was told that when I booked, I would have been told that the party had to arrive together - I wasn't! I asked if I could just get a drink from the bar and I would wait outside until the rest of the party arrived. No she said, there is a full queue at the bar you have to wait outside. The reason there was a queue at the bar was that there was just one person behind the bar taking both food and drink orders. I was allowed in some 15 minutes later and just had time to get a drink before my party arrived outside. The food was ok but took ages to arrive. I won't use this pub again and when I take my party out again, I will find somewhere where they are polite!

I booked a table at the ship inn on Monday one of the busier days with the help out to eat out scheme going on. We were greeted at the door by a lovely blonde lady (Sara) that told us about the new rules and regulations, She was super nice. There was also hand sanitizer at the door and the bar which I felt was a great thing. She showed us to our table and run through the reduced menu with us. When we went up to the bar to order drinks I had a really nice chat with a young gentle man (didn’t get the name) but he was lovely. Our food arrived in good time we were told a 40 minute wait but our food came in about 30 minutes. Everything was lovely and we all enjoyed it! The staff were all supper cheerful even though they were super busy with other tables. 10/10* would recommend. You may have to wait a little bit for food but that is to be expected on such a busy evening. We were lucky to get a table thanks to Sara the manger.

Children's menu MEAL deal was excellent value nice chicken nuggets and chips dessert was great build your own Sundae..husband had spicy stacked burger well it is what it is. It's a burger..bit dry but he said was ok..my Dunbar pie was bloody awful .over cooked and dry so hard in places disgusting .mash was flaky and dry had to ask for more gravy to try and cover it..made it only just edible ..peas are peas ..barman had no customer skills at all. There was no nice atmosphere in this pub .I'm afraid. A couple of servers were ok...but that's it. Go . The Staff would all benefit from some customer service training. Would not go back there ever...

Visited this pub on the 5th of August, we was welcome at the entrance by a rude member of staff who spoke to us like children explaining the pubs Covid policy , when seated she then gave me and my wife a dirty menu( food stains) and then gave my daughters children’s menus, they are 22 and 17 , whilst she was at least 3 meters away from us . Anyway food was quite decent hot and tasty and good value for money, we then ordered desert and when that came the lady asked us to clear our own table and put our used plates on another table so she had room for deserts on the table, I have never ever been asked to clear my own table in a restaurant this was totally over the top and she made us feel like we all had the virus, l appreciate that new measures are in place but please treat customers with some sort of respect also I wasn’t asked at all about track and trace?, all in all nice food but hospitality needs working on.

We were on holiday on Paignton with the granddaughter. I was very impressed with the covid-19 layout; how friendly the staff were and our meal was hot; and lovely. We were recommended this pub by Jane (from caldicot Haywain). Already planning our next visit. Highly recommend

Went with some friends today, totally appreciate and understand the restrictions due to COVID. However, the lady on the door is nothing short of rude, we were finally seated on 2 tables which was fine, again appreciate the restrictions but it felt as though we were not made to feel welcome. Very curt and again rude in her manner. Talked at by the greeter no more than 2 at the bar to order, however we were upstairs so couldn’t see the bar, went down to be sent away twice, asked to let us know when we can go down, they didn’t!! A long wait for food, which was ok nothing to shout out about. The other staff the waitresses were friendly but looked run ragged. Sorry would not recommend this place at all!!!!

This was our 1st visit for quite a time, since well before lo kdown as we live in Dartmouth. However as I had to pick up new glasses we decided to book a table. Surprised that no staff were wearing PPE however other than that social distancing was fine. We were happy with the service and grateful for the government discount. We will be ba j again soon.

Items missing from plate when asked was told no guarantee I’ve already eaten it. Ordered via the app as didn’t want to stand in queue with everyone else. Not much social distancing going on as they won’t dish your food out but will stand right in front of you with the dinner tray. So all very confusing really.

I was really apprehensive about visiting after the recent lockdown! On arrival I was greeted by Sara and she immediately put me and my family at ease. Very friendly and welcoming. She took plenty of time to explain the new process to us and nothing was too much trouble. Fantastic visit and will definitely recommend and re visit☺️

100% felt confident that staff were observing Covid 19 safety measures. Food was nothing to right home about though , which was more about the quality of the food , not how it was cooked . I ordered a simple lunch time wrap of fish fingers. We live by the sea ,I was very disappointed to get some grey/fish? coated in bread crumbs not very appetising at all. Whoever purchases supplies for The Ship needs to up their game , I will not be returning any time soon.

Well organised, all the COVID regulations adhered to. Staff welcoming and friendly. Not all choices available from on the menu but plenty to choose from. Food vey good, overall an excellent experience

Called as we were coming into Paignton for an overnght stay to check that they could acommodate us and we walked over from our B & B for dinner.My gluten free husband had the hunters chicken sizzler, my son and granddaughter had the beef burgers and I had a chicken burger.Food came very quickly, and was hot and tasty, service was good, the staff were welcoming, happy and checked we were happy with our food. It is a chain where you order at the bar and the staff there checked everything for my husband's allergy.Very good value for money, never been to a Sizzler pub before but would go again.
