Lovely location in an old lodge right on the water. Very traditional feel. The dining room was fully booked so they kindly gave us a table in the whiskey bar, which was actually great for us as it was very cosy and felt a bit less formal. Food was fine, but it is very expensive and I didn't personally feel it was worth the money. We had better meals elsewhere for less. Service was good.

During our stay at the Hotel we ate in the restaurant. A worthwhile experience. The scallops were fresher than fresh and the Rib of Beef was meltingly good. A fabulous standard of food with a fantastic wine list...dining at its best.

Couldn't fault Shieldaig Lodge and their staff for everything they did for us for our wedding of 30 people. Dressing the rooms, serving the best food and ensuring everyone was happy at all times. Would recommend to anyone looking for a posh weekend away and needing a good treat!

The food in this restaurant is very tasty and uses local cuisine. That said, the ambience is somewhat spoilt by poor lighting (bright white LED bulbs in the chandeliers is too bright and kills the colours on the walls) and the fact that the kitchen door is wedged open leaving guests to peer into a bright but very unattractive kitchen lobby. What really lets the restaurant down is the staff dress and lack of attention to details. Puma trainers, black jeans and T-shirts are simply not suitable for staff to wear in 'fine dining' restaurants. The staff are indeed very helpful and friendly but they need further training for this sort of establishment.

We had never visited the Sheildaig Lodge despite a longstanding family connection and multiple visits to the Badachro area. With a few birthdays in the family we treated ourselves to a meal in the restaurant which did not dissapoint. We went for the tasting menu which was fantastic with the children choosing from the fixed menu, both kids were able to choose a half portion. The staff were attentive and courteous and made for a pleasurable dining experience. With a great view from the dining room and post dinner drinks in the impressively stocked Liberator bar we had a great time. We will definitely visit this wonderful place again.

We are in the restaurant twice. Both times from the fixed price dinner menu - 3 courses for £49. They also have a taster menu for £69 which you can match with wines for an additional £39. All the courses were good. They have a nice selection of wine available including by the glass. Good value for money.

We had walked up to the fairy loch in torrential rain and so arrived rather wet and dripping (we had changed out of muddy boots and left them in the car. The charming host welcomed us without apparently noticing our rather wind blown appearance. He showed us to “the best table” with log fire and lovely view of the loch. Two herons were hanging around. We enjoyed a nice pot of tea with shortbread. And we weren’t charged extortionate amount.

After an initial confusion over our booking we were quickly seated & offered a lovely window table with superb views. The food is excellent but the surroundings are a tad stuffy & old fashioned. Lovely to have proper table linen, very clean wine glasses & nice cutlery but it lacks informality. Having said that we all enjoyed our meal & were pleased we made an effort to dress up a bit.

Pleasant dining-room. Young, inexperienced staff. We were on a package which included dinner - this meant a restricted menu. The waiter brought the wrong thing at first; I was given a fillet steak but when I told them it was whipped away! Instead we had a rather dry, partially burnt, uncuttable bit of some game bird. Not good! We didn't go back - had dinner in Gairloch at other hotels after that.

Wow, the easiest way to describe this wonderful hotel! The hotel sits on the waters edge of this most beautiful and relaxing location with an abundance of wildlife to watch, seals, Herons and other birds. The hotel has a traditional Scottish feel were the staff are so friendly and welcoming. The rooms are lovely with great views overlooking the water or the gardens. You can choose to relax in the comfortable lounges or take local walks. You can also take time out at the Falconry, an awesome experience not to be missed. We dined in the restaurant on couple of evenings during our short stay and food is both excellent and well presented. Having travelled around Scotland for the last three weeks I can honestly say this is the best hotel we stayed in. I would highly recommend a stay!!

This hotel is so gorgeous. It is located on the edge of a loch, which will keep you mesmerised watching the water come in and out. The hotel is an old hunting lodge, so there are common areas, like a billiard room and tea room, as well as a restaurant, which add to the general ambience of the place. There is a falconry kept at the rear and a lovely young man who will let you get close and take photographs as he brings the bords out and returns them at night time.

A friend and I had a wonderful 1 nights stay at the Shieldaig Highland Lodge. It's been recently renovated to a very high standard; it's quite impressive. We had 2 rooms overlooking the loch and the views were stunning and incredibly comfortable. There's a couple of wonderful lounges to sit in, still enjoying the views, with good wifi access and books to peruse. Dinner was good; not outstanding, but perfectly fine. Breakfast (smoked salmon and scrambled eggs) was delicious. Staff are excellent; customer focused, professional and knowledgeable. It's a thoroughly relaxing location, perfectly furnished; I hope it goes from strength to strength - it's worth making the journey!!

We'd stayed at Sheildaig a few years ago and were disappointed to see it had closed last year. However, it's now fully-functioning again. We'd lunch - perfect smoked salmon sandwiches. And we wished we could be staying overnight again. The reception was a delight and nothing was too much trouble for our waitress. After our lunch we spent time in the grounds, watching a seal and a dozen herons in the bay. Sheildaig is one of those special places.

The Shieldaig has a very comfortable, luxurious, peaceful and welcoming feeling from the moment you walk in. The restaurant has a sublime view overlooking the calm loch and its moored boats. The gentleman who served us was excellent; very friendly and attentive without being ott. The food was delicious, we had scollops and pigeon to start, halibut and pork for main, sticky toffee pudding and cheese for desserts. Fish especially delicious. Less than £30 a head, can't fault it. Excellent wine and whisky list. Will definitely be going back again and taking all our visitors!

As we had our wedding reception there some 12 years ago, It was a nostalgic revisit, where I found the same people running the place with the same hospitality that we so enjoyed all that time ago. The place had had a few upgrades since then, but the coffee, biscuits and banter were just the same - fun! It's a place to go to go back in time, relax in the bygone splendour of a shooting lodge with excellent scenery and enjoy the peace.

I have mixed feeling about this place. The staff is very friendly and took good care of us for the 2 nights we spent there. We had breakfast and dinner and the menu even if a bit limited was excellent. The only issue that I have is that the place would need a bit of extra care as you can feel the place could be soooooo much more. That being said if they would fix it up the price would probably be much higher so in the end we were happy with our stay. The location is simply amazing and ask the owner how to reach the crash site of an American bomber. If I would go back to the highland I would for sure stay here again.

My husband and I stayed here about four years ago and the food was good but very expensive, four course set meal £29 each. The room was like being in a museum, old mismatched furniture, 40 year old decoration, no TV. This year we were booked in (unknown to us) by the managers brother in law whose own refurbished hotel, that we had booked, was closed on the grounds of Building Regulations. Unfortunately nothing had changed since last time, only older and more shabby. The location and building are beautiful but the hotel needs some tender loving care.

Came across this hotel whilst staying nearby and recommended hotel from local people. Booked a table for a fri night. Staff were very helpful and friendly. House is beautiful and situated in an amazing position next to the water. The wine selection was good and we ordered a Pinot noir. The food menu looked scrumptious when we first went to the hotel to book a table (scallopes, venison etc) however the night we ate the menu was extremely limited and not exciting at all (this is important due to the ££££!). Choice for starters were venison meatballs or tomato and mozerella salad. main course options were salmon fillet, chicken with cream sauce or pork and apple sauce. pudding options were apple strudel, icd cream or cheese. We had a beautiful view prior to eating however once in the dining room, we could hardly see the water, just a wall instead. The quality of the food was good, despite the limited menu. However, I found most things extremely oily, fried or full of cream. My partner however absolutely loved his meal (all 5 courses). I wanted to love this place, however, despite the view and te house, it didn't match my expectations.

This is one of the most difficult reviews I have written. Some parts of the experience were great some horrible. From the outside the building is magnificent and in a beautiful setting. However inside is characterless and drab. After waiting in the hall for a few minutes a less than smartly dressed woman came up to us and asked “What do you want!!” in what can only be described as a very aggressive manner. With some training she might learn “Can I help you” is a better start. I had to mark the service poor because of this reception, with a better reception the service would have been very good, the young man in the bar and waiting was excellent. We were told to go into the bar and a menu would be brought through. A young man, very smartly dressed brought the menus through and asked if we would like a drink. We did and ordered our drinks. By the time he came back we had decided what we wanted to eat from the menu and placed our order. The atmosphere in the bar was subdued and the area was cold, we were glad we had left our coats on.We were eventually told to go through to the dining room as our dinner was ready. The dining room was cold and bland. After a little wait our starter was served. We had all ordered the brown trout. This was delicious and we all enjoyed the starter. The next course was a carrot and coriander soup. This was disappointing; it tasted more of butternut squash and was tepid. I asked if I could have another roll and was told they had run out. Strange as they were regulation frozen rolls that are just reheated and served. Onto the main course. I had ordered pork and the pork was a good quality meat cooked beautifully but the sauce was too sweet and a tiny amount of vegetables. Three pieces of carrot the size of a medium pea and three green beans. The carrots had been coated in honey and again added to the sweetness of the dish. Our other guests had fish which was delicious and guinea fowl, this was nicely cooked but again tepid. The waiter was the same young man that had served us in the bar, he looked a little harassed and I’m not surprised as he seemed to do everything apart from the cooking with no supervision or help. He did very well.Pudding. Two of us had the creme brulee this was superb. The other two had cheese and biscuits, again superb. Lovely generous selection of cheeses in fact the two of us that had the brulee had to help out with the cheeses.Coffee was served in the lounge, roaring fire in the lounge, at last we could thaw out. Two lounges signed lounge 1 and 2. A certain lack of imagination. So many beautiful lochs and mountains nearby for the lounges to be named after. Coffee was weak and served from a vacuum flask, poor!I can see why people like Shieldaig Lodge. The situation, the building, the relaxed atmosphere, dogs allowed, allowing people that had left their dogs behind to adopt a dog whilst there. The old world charm. I wouldn’t want them to lose these hard to find attractions. However this is no excuse for the initial welcome we received, that was unforgivable and would be the one thing that would stop us going back. This is an establishment with so much unfulfilled potential. With very little effort it could be transformed into a great place to stay and eat. Would I go again? Yes because of its location, the magnificent outside of the building and the food was basically good with a few moments of disappointment I would give it another chance.
