We had booked a table for five people tonight and received confirmation of our reservation driven 45 minutes only to be told on arrival they wasn’t serving food tonight the bar person thought it was extremely Funny by the big smirk on his face how totally unprofessional these people are couldn’t even make contact we was left with nowhere to eat I wouldn’t ever recommend this to anyone

This is the second time visiting here and both times have come away with food poisoning/ sickness. The food tastes lovely but has ruined two holidays here now..

It's probably the best fish and chips I have ever had. Great food, bar, and an excellent location.

Fabulous fish and chips, and a few local beers, on a very wet and windy day! It was very quiet when we went in, so not much atmosphere, but staff were really friendly and helpful.

Reviewing just the bar as we didn't go to the restaurant. It's just the bar which is dog friendly. There's plenty of seating outside but it's quite small inside. We had a couple of beers one night and then went back for dinner the following day. Fish and chips were delicious, would recommend! The hot smoked salmon salad was also really good! Wasn't a big fan of the beers on tap, but they had some nice bottled beers to chose from aswell. Staff were very friendly and attentive!

Ordered the Fish & Chips and Salmon & Prawn Encroute for mains. Both delicious and good sized portions. Then had Salted Caramel & Chocolate Tarte and Sticky Toffee Sundae for dessert, really good. Would go back there

Étant à Shieldaig, le choix est vite fait, il n’y a que ce restaurant. Au bord de l’eau. L’endroit est agréable. Le personnel sympathique. Quant au repas… pas terrible, hamburger sans saveur, salade César, en fait c’est juste un bol de salade verte avec des croûtons, 14 livres la salade, ça fait cher la feuille ! J’avais ajouté du saumon fumé, 5 livres, lui était bon mais en petite quantité. Conclusion 19 livres, une salade verte avec quelques croûtions et quelques morceaux de saumon fumé. Une arnaque

Loved this place but very popular so best to book a table. Food was very good and the staff were friendly. We were lucky and had good weather, so we could sit outside and take in the beautiful view.

Booked a table for 14.30 as that was all that was available. when we arrived there was hardly any customers there apart from a few in the bar area. Barman seemed shocked when I said I’d booked a table, and had to go and confirm it with the chef. So got told we could sit anywhere and chose upstairs, we were the only people there and we just felt that we were intruding and putting the one member of staff out of his way. My parter ordered the soup for starters and was happy with it, but I had ordered the baked baked Camembert and I can honestly say it was not worth the money. We both had haddock and chips for our main, and it was lovely, can’t fault it, but I will never come back, sorry. Unfortunately first impressions last.

Lovely local restaurant and great seafood options, the baked scallops were lovely and the service was great. My only reservation was the temperature in the restaurant, boy was it HOT up there! Very unexpected up in Scotland in October. The specials board is far more interesting than the main menu and we loved eating locally sourced produce, well worth a visit.

A really excellent experience yet again upstairs in the restaurant, with excellent seafood meals and very friendly service. The atmosphere in the bar downstairs is great too - a brilliant place to meet interesting folk from all over the world who are visiting one of our favourite places in Scotland…

Luckily, I'd read all the reviews, so when the fella who checked me in at the hotel asked if I wanted to make a reservation, I immediately said yes...not everyone did, unfortunately for them. Lively (it's the only restaurant and Bar in the village, so we'll frequented by visitors and locals), pleasant spot with great views across the loch. The food is not bad either..in fact it's really good. There's a range of specials that extends the menu choices (for those in the restaurant at least), so something will appeal to most diners. Quick, attentive service and that view added in means 5 stars from me! 😊👌

We were staying in Torridon overnight and were recommended Shieldaig Bar & Coastal Kitchen for dinner and it didn’t disappoint. The venue was heavily booked but they fitted us in 😊….. it was a beautiful sunny afternoon and we actually were able to sit outside by the loch while sun was setting it was beautiful. The food was very good and reasonably priced, bar & food team were very busy but always had a smile and were keen to ensure we enjoyed our meal 👏😊. Would highly recommend and would definitely eat there again.

Lovely small venue, beautiful location, best night of our NC500 journey This place does not deserve the bad reviews. They are a small venue that is coping very well with the volume of customers. It’s a shame when sat outside that all food arrives together (starter & main) but if you really want them separate then go to the bar and order twice. It’s really not that much of an onerous task. Well worth a visit, no complaints from us!!

Lovely place, staff were brilliant. Langoustines for starter in garlic butter were fresh caught and so very tasty. Baked Camembert was large and they amended to gluten free which was great. 2 x burgers (one GF) were very good burgers and everything with them was good.

I had a lobster sandwich which is a menu items limited to a first come first serve due to its freshness and use of locally caught seafood. It was splendid.

This was such a delightful place to eat - we sat outside for drinks and it was just so peaceful. Beautiful views over the water to the island. Dinner was utterly delicious either way so much fresh seafood. We had squat lobsters and langoustine. The group also highly recommended the seafood chowder and the beef and haggis stew. It was all so very tasty and the team were really welcoming.

Unfriendly welcome as possible, our worst experience from this point of view after a week in Scotland. We generally had the impression of animosity towards tourists (not native English speakers in any case). When we asked when a table inside would be available we were told "when it becomes available" when clearly some people were very close to being finished. We wait outside and two groups leave within minutes, we then return, we are given the menu without telling us about the soup and the specials of the day which were kindly presented to other people right after us. We were also asked to order at the bar while for other tables, the order was taken at the table. We are also made to feel that we are not ordering enough because we are asking for tap water. Fortunately our beef burgers and the vegetarian “Chicken” (meaning imitation chicken) were good. If you have no choice, you can stop there and hope they will be in a better mood.

Friendly staff. Great dishes. Specially seafood chowder would suggest, it was first time to try very Scottish creamy soup.

Food was delicious. The coffee on the other hand was horrendous. Service was very grumpy.

Reviewing for Sept 2023: An awesome seafood feast of local langoustines and cullen skink in an 18th century inn with views of the loch. The food was plentiful and very well cooked. Dining room inside (not the cafe) was nice and cost and service friendly. Prices reasonable for the quality of the food.

It's okay but nothing to be impress.

A perfect place. The bar is very nice, the surroundings are beautiful, even though it was raining and windy, the service was very good and the food was spectacular. We had a Beef Angus burger and it was very, very tasty. I recommend it 100%

Good quality food but expensive for the small portion. The staff at the bar were not encouraging us to stay. Clearly not very professional.

I suppose the main thing this place has going for it is that it's the only place open late on a Sunday for many, many miles. As vegetarians, we knew the menu options would be limited at a place that serves mostly seafood, but we didn't expect the food to be so mediocre and outrageously expensive. We heard they had nice pizza, but apparently the pizza chef was out. The vegetarian burger was tiny and mostly lettuce (£17!!). The beer selection is very limited to Tenants and Guinness. The atmosphere and service is also lacking, to say the least. Our party of 3 was told to push together two small tables in the back of the restaurant where people were playing darts and snooker and bumping into us. The servers took an extremely long time to come to our table - we had to flag them down multiple times. We overheard a customer asking if they could play something other than American country music, and a server snarkily told them that they could play the music they want at their own house. The restaurant walls and bathrooms are dirty, and the bathroom locks don't work, so someone walked in on my friend. Finally, when we wanted to pay, they did not take contactless payment and their machine wouldn't accept my friend's PIN. The server was incredibly rude about it, suggesting that my friend put in his PIN wrong too many times when that is clearly not what happened. Because we were splitting the bill, the server told us we should pay for his portion and do a bank transfer, which is very inconvenient for us as we live in different countries. Overall, I would NOT recommend this place. Way overpriced food without even being an enjoyable place to be inside.

Made under protest and the coffee machine was whacked everytime. Cups and saucers were hastily put on the bar. Service with a smile? No chance. DO NOT BOTHER! Also mentioned foul language from bar man and customers at bar as our toddler was with us, to which he replied “it’s a pub”. Very rude!!

As a guest we got the upstairs room which was great. Limited menu at present but that did not stop the quality which was great. Very friendly staff, great lochside location and very quality building in keeping with the area. A good find.

Awful. Disappointed and will never return. This was a favourite of ours, some fond memories of delicious food and welcoming hosts. It was worse than McDonalds and I hate that place too. Avoid at all costs.

Here we ate the best crayfish of the entire trip. You can't miss this place.

It’s tough to beat a lazy afternoon drink at the picnic tables overlooking Loch Shieldaig. If your lucky you’ll spot the sea eagles circling the island opposite

Food is delicious. Their Pizzas are fantastic and great to order out to bring to your accomodation if you choose too. It's not cheap but a nice treat. Fantastic views sitting inside or outside. Lovely drinks and staff.

Outstanding little pub/restaurant located in highland Scotland. Busy with a bar full of characters! The cold seafood platter was top notch and I hope to visit again someday.

We stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for a "little snack" on our way to Skye. Amazing food, especially the seafood platter and the pizza. Very lovely staff and a perfect view over the Loch from the table.

Food was excellent! I had the salmon and my friend the fried haddock and it was just delicious! It is worth the road to get here!

Superb fish and chips with fantastic views

The food was delicious. But I got food poisoning from the cod fish or the veggie (that’s the only dish my husband didn’t eat and he is fine) , started to get dizzy 40 min after eating in the drive back to applecross Village and started being very sick shortly after. Almost called the ambulance in the evening . It is very quiet in this area so if u got sick is inconvenient to buy medicine or see doctor. So they need to make sure food is fresh . I feel better today but better warn travelers .

We were here with a group. Everyone except us wanted to have lunch. We weren't allowed to sit at the table with the others. Very impolite!!!!

It was such a strange experience but it was quite tasty! There was an owner who set the clock on the wall running backwards 🤪. There was an Italian pizza man. And it was a place with maximum 15-20 houses (my count could be wrong). Pizza was soft and tasteful. Atmosphere was totally different on the ground floor and on the first floor. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Best pub in the area. The food is always great, especially when the stone fire pizza oven is running. Great veggie options despite being a seafood restaurant. Always a great buzz and vibe. Highly recommend.

Absolutely delicious. We had the baked scallops and fish pie and both were fresh and tasty. Dogs are allowed in bar but we sat outside to eat as weather was fine. (Only drop in rating as staff were struggling and our order was forgotten)

Lots of outdoor seating. Seat yourself and order directly from the bar. We got the fish and chips they were really moist but not my favourite batter from our trip. Very friendly staff and quick service for how busy they were. Beautiful view from our table outside. Massive portion.

Any time we have been in the area it is a busy wee spot. We managed to get a takeaway pizza, and it was incredible tasty, quick friendly service

Good menu with unexpected high quality. Staff were like helpful family without fussing, good for dogs too. Not a hint of a child which is nice in a bar.

Lots of lovely, local goodies. Enjoyed our meal, very tasty. Concerned that children were running around the dining area where trays of hot drinks & meals are served / being carried.

A great place to meet, eat & enjoy. Very popular & busy with a great atmosphere. Lovely seafood, make sure you check the 'Specials' board along with the seafood of the day. The premises has a great view over to Shieldaig Island where the Sea Eagles live. Make sure you book to avoid disappointment!

Easily the best seafood in the UK (I have not been to Northern Ireland but I stand by my review)

It's a pub with a kitchen, only they serve really well cooked fresh seafood. Lots of butter of garlic, no pretentious plates or tiny servings. The chips are top notch. Great service and locals popping in and out. Can't really think how it could be better, thanks!

Delicious pizza and mussles in a thai coconut curry, yum!

We went to eat on a Saturday at 2 p.m. during a "stage" stop on our roadtrip, we ordered 2 hamburgers, people ordered a small can after us (a family of 4 people) and were served before us. The wait continues and still nothing from our dishes while the various servers pass in front of us without "calculating" us.....we decide after 45 minutes to go and ask at the counter where our order is and we realize that we were forgotten....we got our dishes 1 hour later even though the restaurant was really not full, the servers were not at all responsive or professional.

Climbing mountains, drinking beer and midges. Splendid. Best view from a pub garden ever.

Rare open restaurant in the village, also a bar and hotel... local and relaxed atmosphere... many options for sustenance... we tested the pizzas 🍕 for faster service at 3 p.m. 😋 good light dough, tasty tomato base but the seafood pizza yields a little too much water and softens quickly... otherwise basic but excellent.

Great bar and restaurant selling locally court fish and seafood as well as pizza. We had the fish and chips and it was some of the best we'd had.

Stopped off briefly when enjoying a day out on the motorcycle. Great food enjoyed outside and served with care. We were made to feel very welcome and wished we could have stayed to enjoy more into the evening.

Delicious seafood eaten flat. This was served cold with a nice piece of bread. In the bar you have to wait a long time for a table, but you can order a drink at the bar and play pool.

Had the seafood platter can honestly say is the best I've ever had around Scotland nc 500. Top notch soup was great as well 👍

A nice local fisherman bar. You order at the bar, they give you the drinks and bring you the food. Fish and chips tasted good. Guinness tasted great. Feels like a cosy authentic Scottish place.

What a surprise ! Passing by at sunset for a quick dinner, we ended up staying for a while to enjoy a succulent starter, main course and dessert in a village pub atmosphere in the depths of Scotland. The cuisine is simple but surprising and very warm, like the establishment. A treat that we didn't expect, for a very pleasant evening by the water.

Dropped in for a pint at the end of a very long days walk up from Applecross. It was an absolutely stunning evening so opted for some al fresco dining by the shore of the loch rather than cooking at my tent! Ordered the cheese burger and fries and it was excellent - and no more pricey than your average city centre or lake district gastro pub. Staff were very friendly and the atmosphere inside the bar was nice. Enjoyed the local Strathcarron ales! I look forward to visiting again!

We love Shieldaig and have been to the restaurant before so we thought we would give it a second try. We ordered monkfish scampi and baked scallop special. The scampi was very dry and lacked flavour and the scallop dish was just unusual. No whole scallops. Instead translucent thin slices on a bed of very garlicky spinach and breadcrumbs. I eat out regularly and enjoy decent food, often ordering scallops when on the menu as I really enjoy them. I also hate complaining and avoid it at all costs. However on this occasion I simply had to mention that the scallops totally lacked flavour. The dish tasted of garlicky spinach and that is all. Very disappointing. I mentioned to the waitress who said she would let the kitchen staff know but no discount on the bill. Disappointing food and overall experience so sadly don’t think we’ll be back which is a shame given the lovely setting and how much we love Shieldaig.

Bangers and mash were a hit. Haggis bon bons also tasty. Seafood looked good but didn’t try (allergic unfortunately). Busy place so book a table. Nice staff. Ate here 2 nights in a row.

Fantastic, friendly bar, which allows dogs. Not huge, so arrive early, especially at the weekend if you want a table. You can reserve a table though. The food was fresh, cooked to our liking & not outrageous in price. 👍🏻

Ordered a table for dinner. Arrived 8 minutes late and were told in an unfriendly manner that they wouldn’t keep tables if you are 10 minutes late, then he shows us the table. Ordered some starters and the small seafood platter (£40 for the platter). Image shows what we got, it was all fridge cold and the mussels were not even cooked in salty water. We asked if this was meant to be cold and they said yes. After 20 minutes the waiter (red suit) asked us how the food was. For the first time in years I awkwardly admitted that I had expected more of this. He just started walking away while saying in his passing by: “it’s what’s on the (menu) board, it’s the best seller, that’s all I will say…!” Also the people next to us were complaining about low grade 3 mussels. Bad food is one thing, but on top his bad response made us feel very uncomfortable, it ruined an otherwise really nice evening.

Have eaten here many times before. Massive disappointment this time, Sunday 31st March. Service was rude from the get go and when you order a house white wine you expect it to be all of the same type, not a mixture of whatever the chap in the high viz suit can find in the fridge. We arrived 10 minutes early for our booking and were sent upstairs on the off chance the table might have been ready. We were promptly asked if we were able to tell the time and that obviously the table was not ready. No suggestion of a drink at the bar which is the normal practice. We got a drink and sat outside and returned 10 mins later. My wife and I were then seated 10 minutes after our booking and felt more of an inconvenience than a paying customer. We had finished our drinks before the starters arrived and we were not offered any more for the duration of the meal. Having ordered scampi and fish and chips the hour and a bit wait for the mains was very long. With no apologies when they did finally arrive. Both servers upstairs were completely useless. We were handed dessert menus 3 times after asking for the bill. This is not the experience we have come to expect and it has put us off returning. Please sort yourselves out because the monkfish scampi we had last year was delicious!

This place does fantastic fish, I mean really good. They have plenty of other options if fish is not your thing. The location and view is spectacular and the owners are really lovely

Excellent food, great service love our Italian host with the lime green suite spectacular.

A lovely friendly pub. We visited for lunch with our young daughter and the dog. Lacto free options were catered for without any fuss. We sat in the bar as we had our dog with us, he was made to feel very welcome and received several treats. The food was excellent. We will definitely return.

Food was OK a bit expensive for the burger but was tasty.soup was tasty also service was top notch.manager was very colourful in his green suit.
