Lovely little coffee shop. The history of the building found online is a good read. Service was friendly. We sat in the back, which was wooden cladded. It was quaint and cosy.

What a lovely surprise in the heart of Whitby! I absolutely loved the atmosphere and decor of this little gem of a coffee shop! I had a fruit scon and cappuccino and I am still craving that scon... It is the best one I had in England! I even took one as a takeaway as I only discovered the coffee shop on the day that we were leaving. I can highly recommend Sherlocks Coffee Shop!

Nice enough quirky cafe in Whitby but cakes are way overpriced at £4.50 each and oat coffee not as good as other places. Staff not very welcoming and so small downstairs that you can overhear other peoples conversations. Giving it four stars as my husband loved the huge scone but too claustrophobia for me.

Can't comment on the food as we'd just popped in for a coffee. But the cakes looked nice! Very atmospheric. Just one small complaint, the signs for the toilets were not clear. I found the gents toilet up a narrow, steep staircase. Other than that, a charming cafe.

Lovely coffee shop, this is our third visit this summer to Whitby, and we love getting lunch here. This is quaint place food is lovely, and superb choice of sandwiches and cakes, I've tried 3 different paninis all very tasty and the scones are lovely. Staff friendly and pleasant. Bust times you may have to wait, but there are seats at the rear and upstairs, decor is lovely.

An absolute gem tucked away from the hustle of the busy sea front. If you're after a quick break and want to escape into another era then you should definitely pay a visit. The interior is spectacular, like stepping into a dickensian scene or perhaps appropriately a location from Sherlock Holmes. The food is freshly made on site and the scones are delicious. Well worth a visit!

Visited last week and enjoyed. This place is gorgeous inside, really cosy with quirky touches. The staff we dealt with were pleasant. Seems very popular and busy! Ordered a cheese scone, which was huge and very tasty, my daughter had pancakes with Nutella which she absolutely loved, and my partner and I shared pancakes with bacon and syrup, which was really nice. We had a lemon meringue pie (divine! Crispy meringue, really zesty lemon filling and lovely pastry) and Ferraro Roche cheesecake to share afterwards (we pushed the boat out with being on holiday!) The tea was really lovely. I personally wasn’t a fan of the cheesecake, it had a really odd perfume like taste however my partner enjoyed. A nice touch for the pancakes would be to serve the syrup in a jug as we found there was a lot on the plate, which was a little overpowering, so would’ve preferred to pour our own. Overall we enjoyed and were raring to go for a second round of exploring Whitby after refuelling here!

This place was on my list to visit. For such a small harbour town, Whitby definitely has a lot to offer in terms of things to see and places to dine at. As I’m a fan of anything Sherlock related and I love coffee, this seemed like a good idea. With a good selection of cakes (homemade, I think). I decided to try the Battenburg Cheesecake, along with a latte to wash it down with. Service was good and the staff were friendly and professional. Although I was a little disappointed in the texture and taste of the cake, I feel that having a cold didn’t really help. I will definitely return though as the ambience and friendliness made it very welcoming.

Good Day, Being invited across the threshold (it is required if you are of the Vampyre genus) of this beautifully appointed coffee shop, your senses will be calmed by the allure of this classic and eloquent interior. The friendly, professional and attentive staff always provide the most excellent of experiences. For the top-hatted individuals amongst us, you may need to remove your head-ware or duck whilst navigating the deeply wooden panelled interior, in a good way of course. Like Sherlock’s office and more appropriately with its similarity to the Ship the Demeter, it is the most wonderful place to eat and drink. I always look forward to enjoying my time here as it provides one with quiet contemplation in addition to allowing time to slow down. I look forward to entering and consuming once again … My beat wishes to you all in your wonderful establishment… Vlad Dracul III (Dracula)

Cafe was lovely. Decor was incredible. Did the escape room upstairs. Was very underwhelmed. The host was lovely. The room is on the top floor up a dangerous set of stairs. The room was run down. The clues were aged and falling apart. There was a piece of our puzzle missing. There was no clue system or speaker in the room as there typically is in escape rooms. Our host was shouting through the door and we could barely hear her. Overall very frustrating and badly done. Worst escape room I've ever done.

Love this quirky little place. The owner put a lot of effort into making the cafe older worlde. It has a small area in the back and upstairs seating too. So go in and ask even when full. Smiley, if business like staff, but wanting to do a good job. Loved my open sandwich. The cakes were tasty and varied. They have VEGAN cakes. Yes plural! Shouldn't be too hard for cafes to be able to cater for dietary needs.Well worth a visit. Only downside is that the place is a bit cramped. But I think that adds to the charm.

Sadly the service was not as good as the last time I visited. The table wasn’t cleaned. When I went up to order the lady started talking to someone else about tables and food and put the wrong items on. Also missing off one the items. The pot of tea turned up but not the milk. Had to ask someone. Our food was nearly served to the wrong table. A lot of elementary mistakes I’m afraid.

Very disappointing. Over priced sandwiches made with shop bought bread, accompanied with a sad amount of salad. The cheese and beans jacket potato was also over priced, the cheese was packet grated cheese loosely scattered on the top. The scrambled eggs on toast were devoid of any moisture. All sandwiches could have come with a small amount of crisps and a small pot of coleslaw for an additional 50p, which may not seem a lot but when you’re already paying £8.50+ for a cheaply made sandwich it feels very stingy to charge anything extra for cheap additions. I feel the owners have their priorities completely wrong as the decor is very nice but the food is poor and over priced. Excellent coffee though

We had just taken a long walk through Whitby so it was time to take a break, pleasant town, with climbs and descents. By the way, I think England is becoming an expensive holiday destination. This place has become a Whitby fixture and I've been popping in very occasionally for over a decade now. The decor is 'olde worlde' with a nod towards the eponymous Conan-Doyle character (although, unlike Bram Stoker, I don't believe there is a direct Whitby connection). The menu hasn't changed much over time, nor have the portion sizes. The egg mayo sandwiches are juicy and stuffed to the brim, representing good value for money. The fruit smoothies are also good. Overall, Sherlocks has maintained a surprising continuity and consistency over time. I do hope they can continue to do that in increasingly challenging economic times. Find a table and then order and pay at the counter.

This coffee shop has a unique vibe with classic English Sherlock-inspired decor. But if you need to charge your gadgets while you're here, you might struggle to find plugs. I tried their fruit scone with cream and strawberry jam, which was really tasty. However, if you're picky about your coffee, you might be let down. I ordered two flat whites, but they tasted weak and the milk wasn't frothed properly. Plus, it was too hot. That was a bit disappointing. But if you're in Whitby, it's still worth popping into this coffee shop for the unique atmosphere.

It was a customer close by that said we go to the till ( where the waitress was stood) to place our order. The toastie (not a lot in it, but dripping fat from the cheese) was served with soggy crisps and limp salad leaves. Mentioned when I paid about the crisps and leaves and reply " they were fresh this morning!) and a stare.... Not a good experience

Quaint cafe and absolutely lovely cakes! Have been going for years, but disappointed with the queue system being rather unorganised, I get it’s a small place and few staff so hard to keep track but I witnessed many people paying and leaving (they were sitting in not taking away) yet nobody popped outside to get us, this also meant some customers who wanted to come in ended up leaving as the wait was far too long and thought we were forgotten about. We ended up standing near the doorway after a further 10 minutes of waiting in the rain with no staff member in sight (yet customers leaving the cafe) where a waitress told us we need to stand outside (again) yet there’s a sign in the doorway stating to wait there to be seated?! 😅 Very confusing!

Never been here before. I'm a bit limited with food choices at the moment and we had a dog with us. It was our wedding anniversary and I love to sit in a cafe, trying to find something that I could eat and we could take a dog in had proved hard. We saw this cafe and thought it was right down our street. My husband went and ordered our food, I had picked the only thing I could eat on the menu. My husband sat down and we had got settled, then I had one of the staff tell me I didn't have the filling for my jacket, as I mentioned I didn't really have an option so just said I'd have a plain jacket. It was frustrating but not the end of the world. My husbands order came and it wasn't what he had actually asked for. I had given him my crisps and coleslaw from my plate as I couldn't eat either of those but he had to sit and wait for his food and watch me eat. I know that this isn't the kind of this that would probably happen, it just happened to be when it was our anniversary and had kind of ruined the day. Other wise the staff were nice and the food that we had was lovely and the atmosphere was really cosy. Just an honest review of the time we were there for. We will be back and hopefully a better experience next time.

What a great place! We always have fish and chips when in Whitby but found out about this place online prior to our day trip. We can get pretty decent fish and chips at home so given the great reviews about this place we thought we’d buck the trend. We were not disappointed. Humble Pie is a small place full of character, the 1940s theme is great and the pies are amazing. Staff were lovely and the service was super fast, a relatively small menu means you don’t have to spend ages perusing it and you know whatever you order will be top drawer. We got the steak and stout and the minced beef and onion pies, both were fantastic. There is a lot to be said for pie, mash and mushy peas served on a tin plate with a mug of delicious Yorkshire tea. As a bonus every table has a bottle of Henderson relish on it! Fantastic place with great food. Today we ate humble pie and it was good.
