Shepherd Neame - The Crown in Lewisham

Our visit was during the first really cold snap of the autumn, and the pub was absolutely freezing. This meant it was not possible to remove any outer clothing. Couldn't fault the quality of drinks or service, but the food was dreadful. The sausage sandwich was served on white bread spread with margarine without the promised mustard and was barely edible. In fairness though, the chips were delicious despite being cooked from frozen. On a more positive note, it's in a great location (it is after all in Blackheath) and has a great outdoor seating area perfect for summer

Fish and chips, fish batter not cooked through, burger very over cooked. Lovely waitress apologised and spoke to her manager who never came out to speak to us to investigate further. Refund given. The fact that there were only 2 cubicles in the toilets proved to be a challenge, one of my friends was very sick when she got home , good for drinks but not food.

We waited 45 mins for a sandwich, and were told a large party of 8 had just ordered and it could be a while, then literally seconds later they appeared, poor food, high price for what it was, as the ratings prove, very average if not below

This was our first time earing here, family of 6 and sadly we will not be returning. We waited 1hr 25 mins for our food. We did get 3 free cokes, a wine and an apple juice free for the wait being so long and also to be fair it was really busy due to race for life and beautiful weather. The food though was not food. We ordered two kids cheeseburger meals, each only with half a hamburger and a sprinkle of cheese. How can you only put in half a hamburger? The fishfinger sandwich contained two fishfingers and at £10, this is a bit of a joke. The kid’s macaroni cheese was dry and bland. Im not sure if we were served these dishes on purpose because we complained about the length of time but thats a shame becausethe actual pub is nice and cool with lots of space. Given the quality and portion size of the food though we will never return.

Popped in here for a few drinks with friends whilst out in Blackheath. Got served straight away and found a seat. The beers were ok, toilets were a bit small

Had such a lovely afternoon in The Crown. Nearly never went because of bad reviews. Glad I changed my mind. I had curry and chicken wings. Food was delicious and HUGE portions. None of us could finish our meals. Staff were so friendly

I ordered the Traditional Fish and Chips large size (£13.95) and was given a tiny, thin, curled-up piece of fish, probably pollack or some other cheap and very non-traditional fish, not cod or haddock, with a wafer-thin coating of batter. The chips were flabby and unappetising, but I could have forgiven that if the fish had been half-decent. But it was terrible, worthless, hardly any fish there at all. The staff did have the good grace to apologise, but there was no refund or offer of another dish forthcoming. Don't expect a good meal here.

My husband and I stopped off here on a walk with our dog. Staff friendly and 2 glasses of red wine cost us £13. Dogs are allowed in the downstairs area of the pub but no signs in the window to indicate so or on their website. We enjoyed our stop here.

Haven’t been in The Crown for many years and was really looking forward to Sunday lunch in there. What a disappointment as both of our roasts were stone cold! I don’t want to send it back for it to be microwaved so are it due to hunger but I prefer my roasts hot or at least warm! Another two friend turned up and had also ordered roasts and one was stone cold and the other was so small it looked like someone had eaten half. When we complained we were told it was all that was left but you. An have some pigs in blankets to make up for it! A bowl of pigs and roast potatoes duly arrived but wouldn’t it have been better to have put the potatoes on the plate in the first place! At least the small portion was hot!

I have driven past this pub for years and always wanted to go in it, honestly the experience was awful. The soft drinks and beer were flat. We asked to change it and again we’re serve with flat beverages. We ordered sandwiches and loaded fries which were absolutely abysmal. Both myself and my partner were ill that night with upset stomachs and nausea. The bar staff were friendly but pretty clueless. Do not go here!

Visited the pub whilst on a break from work, and had the service was spot on. I have previously visited shepherd's neame pubs and I do enjoy their wine! Only downside I noticed was that I do not believe they respected the new law for Tier2 for same household/social bubble.

Good check in and shown to table. Efficient service and didn't have to wait long for drinks. Good choice of gins. Staff really friendly.

A friend and I met up for a catch up over a couple of drinks. The measures in place are good, check in on entry and shown to a table. The table service was very good, friendly and efficient staff and a good choice of beers. Definitely would return.

After trying several unfriendly locals I came here I know things are difficult but these people bend over backwards to accommodate, well done to the extremely helpful team.

We went with friends for a Sunday roast but it was just awful. Soup was lukewarm and accompanied by cold bread burnt to a crisp. We asked for another slice and the server happily obliged. One of our half chicken "roasts" came out raw on the inside with white slimy skin and looked like it was either microwaved or boiled. Why anyone would think it was appropriate to serve such garbage to their customers is beyond me. We ended up returning it. The server gave us a refund and asked if we wanted anything else, but after being served that monstrosity, we didn't want to take our chances. So my husband left hungry. Others at the table had tough, dry and cold meat. The veg were OK but again, cold. I don't know who works in that kitchen but they need to figure out their staff. Serving undercooked chicken is nothing short of dangerous.

While the pub was a little loud, the service was very good as was the food. We both had burgers and I really enjoyed the vegan burger which was delicious and came with a very nice ‘mayo’. My drink tasted a little weird though... possibly dishwasher residue. This is a good place for vegetarians to eat with a vegan burger and a few cheese options on the menu so I would return for that.

The Crown es un pub encantador que es local para nosotros, así que tuvimos el almuerzo del domingo aquí por primera vez hoy. Que decepcion.La comida no era buena. Tuvimos una mezcla de carne y asados vegetarianos en nuestra mesa y todos fueron claramente decepcionantes.El problema principal era la temperatura de la comida, nuestra comida más caliente era tibia y una estaba realmente fría. Había muchas verduras, que venían como un plato compartido para la mesa, pero estaban a temperatura ambiente.Esperamos años para el postre y cuando apareció no era lo que había en el menú, ya que la cocina aparentemente se había quedado sin ingredientes.Mientras estábamos en el pub, una mesa junto a nosotros nos trajeron la comida pero se quejaron de que hacía frío. Recibieron un reembolso y se fueron.Es una verdadera lástima, ya que el menú se veía bien y el pub en sí es agradable, con un personal amable y una buena selección de cervezas bien cuidadas.La comida necesita algo de atención y podría ser un lugar encantador los domingos.

Conocí a mi amiga de la escuela y a sus miembros del coro para cantar villancicos en Trafalgar Square y luego visité este pub. Algunos de los mejores vinos calientes que he probado y un excelente buffet. Buena combinación de pub y salón. Muy conveniente para los autobuses y la estación.

Visited for the first time a week before Christmas.Good points:Friendly welcoming bar staff.Great location.Tasty lunch menu.Clean and tidy bar area.Food was delicious, well presented & the sandwiches were very tasty.Bad points:No decaf coffee.Was given a saucer as a side plate when I shared a sandwich with my husband.Loaded chips were under the grill too long so the unedible cheese had welded to the plate.The Saltbeef sandwich was delicious but couldn't taste any Stilton cheese.

Lovely few hours in the Crown, first re-visit for years....Manager very professional and attentive, aware of customers and running a tight ship... Lovely food and atmosphere!

Popped in for a lunch with my 2 kids - the staff were marvellous and really connected with my young son and daughter. It was a pretty quiet Monday and they took the time to make us feel welcome. They helped me out with a pending parking issue which they really didn’t have to do, just really decent folks looking out for their punters and I am grateful. Great beers on cask and the food was really good too - I heartily recommend the fish and chips and a pint of Spitfire. Full 5 stars from me for service, food and beer and atmosphere - we loved our visit.

We went for drinks before meeting friends, had a couple but sadly the cocktail/wine bar was closed due to an event. Very busy day but staff were just about on top of the queues. Would go again.

We were shopping locally and decided to pop in for a drink. It’s a nice little venue. Modern glass doors on entry and a well laid out interior. Drinks selection was good and the atmosphere nice. Drinks a little pricey - London prices - but nothing unexpected. Definitely a nice little pit stop when in Blackhearh

Sunday lunch. Our usual, Hare and Billet was full so we tried the Crown. What a disappointment. The meal was slow in arriving, but were prepared overlook that if everything else had been fine. The two small rissoles and salad were, to me, underwhelming. Unimaginatively presented they looked to be straight out of a cheap freezer pack with a small pile of supermarket mixed salad leaf. It was supposed to be a starter to prepare the palate and stimulate the mind in preparation for the mains to come! No excuse, in my view for falling short on this. This is not a cheap burger joint but a place with wine bar and restaurant pretentions.

Beef on Sunday roast inedible. Staff not bothered. Never again. Most disappointing Sunday roast I have ever had to endure.

Used to be my favourite local but the food was tough and cold this time. Told the waitress but the response was nothing... Won't take family there for food again!

Visited in September with family. Ordered the vegetarian Sunday roast - consisted of burnt Yorkshire pudding, no gravy, an enormous pile of undercooked veg and a 'vegetable crumble' which was cauliflower florets and a few chopped up peppers, sprinkled with breadcrumbs and a bit of cheese. You can eat very well as a vegetarian, but places like this don't understand how to cook well!

I moved to the area beginning of summer saw this place but never had a chance to visit and I envy the people sitying outside enjoying. Finally last weekend i had friends visiting we went there for a sunday toast and deinks decoration is nice but thats all really bar staff younger ones friendly but there was a man and a woman middle aged they were so unfriendly and food was barely edible as i had crispy squid which was so greasy and not crispy at all i got ill afterwards same night so if you go there weekdays and just for a drink it is ok for food or for weekends there are plenty better options in the area

Went in without booking in a group of 14 about 2030 and the staff seem a little put out as we all requested food. After they got over that the staff were lovely and the food was really nice however they ran out of rump after only one was ordered. Nice fish and chips and the cinque lager is really tasty. I would return but might go a bit earlier. The ashtrays are pretty full outside.

Dirty tables, overflowing ashtrays and sanitary bins, menu holders never been wiped. Would have left if hadn't already paid for drinks. Wouldn't try food based on observations and drain smell in pub

It was a hot day so I ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad. The service was quick but the salad was odd. Hard, dry blackened chicken strips lurked on top of wilted salad leaves and large chunks of tomato. Not a classic Caesar salad!

The Crown does decent pub food but I was pleasantly how nice the cheeseburger was! I'm a bit fussy with burgers but highly recommend - good quality and really tasty. The prices are quite reasonable. There's a nice relaxed vibe in the pub with plenty seating in the pub. Service has always been efficient. I definitely recommend for a pub meal in Blackheath.

I went here with a friend and the reception was very warm and as we booked were shown to a nice table inside the pub. We were then just left and we had to ask if it was table service or service at the bar. That said the bar staff were very nice indeed and we got our meals very swiftly and the drinks at the bar. They do a birthday club and so one of the meals was free and as long as you got another main meal this was the deal. You do need to sign up for the Birthday club but its a good idea. The fish and chips were lovely and the orange juice very nice. I thought the ambience in the pub was nice and the staff. I also thought the toilets were clean and well maintained. I would come here again for sure. It was very busy and bright and cheerful and the football was playing in the bar without disturbing conversation to less enthuiastic people. I liked it here and it was not expensive or rushed in any way.

The crown is a nice enough pub with a cosy feel, the beer I had was nice and there is a decent enough selection. That said it's not a truly stunning pub and is a chain and feels very much like one.

Friday night drinks with friends . Pub had major overhaul a few years ago and changed Brewers. Has lost its atmosphere, to much like every other 'done up' pub, drinks are pricey, but hey this is Blackheath. Bar staff very bust talking to themselves, not watching customers waiting for drinks. All in all i would return as it is probaly the best pub in Blackheath, ( Zerodegrees is not bad, better food).

Just stopped here for a drink and a snack after a long Sunday walk. The setting is really nice and friendly with a feel like it would make a great local pub if I lived in the area. The service is friendly and efficient but...

How can anyone murder standard Brakes food...it only needs heating up! I've just worn out my jaw on an old bit of leather masquerading as a burger.....just awful! Plus usual Saturday night surge of vacuous idiots from Bexleyheath!

Lovely pub to relax in on a Sunday. Very cosy and great outside space in the summer. Food is passable. Lamb roast was 5/10. Onion gravy with lamb is a big weird and the Yorkshire’s terrible. More like a roast your gran would cook. Sunday...

Took 1 hour for our nachos to come and then they was a stuck together. Had clearly been under the heat lamp all that time. The place wasn't even busy at the time so no excuses. Got our money back and they gave us some...

Visited here with friends for Saturday pub food and a couple of drinks. Staff were friendly even though there was a bit of bill paying confusion. Standard pub grub, definitely better than your Wetherspoons but not outstanding. Vegetarian options. Lovely beer garden at the front....

Comimos allí una vez y ha sido una hermosa noche. No había nadie para comer, ya que en casi 9. 00:00h, pero aquellos que estaban allí para beber no eran nada ruidoso. Un perfecto pub si quieres divertirte sin preocupaciones. El personal era muy servicial: me dieron lo que pedí, incluso si no estaba en el menú (sólo algunos de pollo y verduras, pero otros me hubiera hecho un lío).

This is a nice pub. Good selection of drinks but the food is in a word "disappointing". This is a shame as the pub has a lot going for it. I would just go here for drinks and eat somewhere else.

Always popular but staff very attentive and easily served. Tied houses so expect Real Ales to be on their mark, which they usually are.

Very nice pub in the centre of Blackheath. They allowed us to hold a meeting of our Cake Club here. They were happy to let us reserve 3 tables in the window. There is the usual range of drinks on offer and the food we saw coming out looked very good. Very comfortable and nice atmosphere, children welcome during the day.

The Crown is in a great location, it's more than acceptable as a venue for drinks. However the food here was dreadful. Service was a shambles, the food came out at different times even though the orders were put in at the same time. Two of the group ordered the Sunday roast. The meat was tough and when this was pointed out, the waitress did nothing to rectify this. Extra salt was added to the nachos??? The desserts took forever to arrive, when they did they were not worth the wait... measly portions, poor presentation, cold custard. Utterly dismal. The staff seemed out of their depth, they apologised but did nothing to compensate for the shambolic service. After complaining we were offered a free hot drink each. That involved another 20 minute wait...Not sure if this service is typical for The Crown or if they were experiencing a bad day. What I am sure of is this is not a place I will be eating at again.

Went last night for the first time with a group of friends for pre dinner drinks. Lovely comfortable pub, with open fire, great selection of drinks and friendly atmosphere. Definitely going back.

I ordered the very nice pan fried chicken breast which came supposedly with saute potatoes. Unfortunately they were not, they were white halved new potatoes. I would not have ordered this dish had they told me this. When I mentioned this to the bar manager he said you mean Dauphinoise, erm no they are cooked in cream. The chef came out and explained she had cooked them in olive oil. But the potatoes should be brown and a bit crispy, these were completely white. I had even clarified with a member of staff before ordering that they were proper Saute. The chef was nice but the bar manager was not really interested! The rest of the dinner was nice.

Had a lovely leaving drinks here and found the staff very nice indeed and also the other customers. I dont drink alcohol but the orange was very nice and the others had beer and shorts and they were very happy. The pub was lovely inside and also outside and its been there for years and is always busy. The toilets were clean.

Horrible experience. We order two beef burgers and one veggie. The beef ones were weird and stank of death. My friend bit it and He left because wasn't good. I wasn't that brave and I left it. I made a compliant and Nobody offered me a refund. The other friend was starving and decided to eat the veggie. In the end they all got sick and they spend the last two days with vomit and diarrea. Absolutely the worst experience ever had in a pub.Criminals.

Came for lunch on Sunday. It's in the village area of Blackheath. so it has a great location and feel. The interior is very chilled, downstairs has more atmosphere but the upper room has really good window views.Service was very friendly and relaxed.Foodwise it was ok. The Sunday menu is at least not restricted to roasts. Sandwiches were a bit soggy but they can be washed down with some very good wine.Would come back.

£11 for a Sunday roast which consisted of a combined total of 2 portions of over cooked/reheated veg, ridiculous portions of potatoes to bulk it out, 2 thin pieces of meat which were admittedly of reasonable quality. And the service was nice. If you're walking past and fancy it, you may as well go in but if you are after something special keep walking. Much prefer the Clarendon carvery just up the road; smudge more expensive for 2 courses (a lot is pre-made) but beautiful old fashioned room, piano, and you will be properly served and full up too.

Have eaten here a few times and it's always pretty good. Certainly wouldn't rave about it, but I do return.

After visiting a few watering holes in Blackheath we stumbled on the Crown a lovely shepherd neame pub well noy just a pub a lovely place to come and unwind as soon as you walk in your welcomed by some of the most lovely staff I've uncounted in a long time the drinks and food were extant the decor suits and to top it off there's a wine bar called todds up stairs this is definitely a venue you should vist if you're in Blackheath .

have not been here for a few years , popped in for a quick one before lunch and shopping . great two see a proper old style pub , warm welcome great service , how pubs used to be and still should be.

The pie's filling is excellent but the pastry is about a foot thick and the crispy peking duck was neither crispy nor peking. The children's menu is the best we have seen in a while

My husband and I are Friday night regulars - always go upstairs. Not so sure about the new wine bat but it's good to have a place like the Crown which is still a good old fashioned pub in Blackheath

Lovely location but terrible, awful food which I sent back. I ordered the club sandwich which had hardly any filling in it! Its supposed to be chicken, bacon, tomato and mayonnaise. When I choose something off the menu I expect the contents to be in the sandwich. Parts of the sandwich were completely empty, except for a tiny piece of tomato. Unacceptable for the price. So I sent it back, and the second one was exactly the same, so I guess this is how the Crown envisage a club sandwich. My wife's sausage sandwich was terrible also. Cheap sausage and soggy bread. You really need to up your game. The Crown cannot dine out on its location forever. It could be such a great place. With all the competition nearby you will lose your custom. We wont be back.

Really good value for money wine, nice atmosphere, comfortable chairs. We did not have food but the wine we had was very nice.

Arrived at the Crown, which had a nice exterior, interior looked cheap but okay, drinks were nice and of good temperature,.... The downside was the fact that we've ordered two steaks, rare... This however was apparently too difficult for the kitchen to understand as we received our steaks medium/well done, unacceptable, and when complained the apparent "manager" acted as if there was nothing wrong, and made us feel guilty for requiring a refund.In short I want to conclude, go for a nice drink, leave the food!

Food came out obviously microwaved, with the imprint of the tupperware in the mash! Like it had just been thrown on the plate. Chewy, undercooked cabbage and over an hour wait for 2 meals...really unimpressed.

Been here drinking for years but went upstairs for food on a Sunday with my partner we was greeted buy a young lady called ester and was a lovely girl explained everything so well.The roast was superb really really nice and cheap be going back 100% and thankyou ester for making it easyier top staff top food

Walked in for beef and pork roasts: both were excellent. Had a bottle of wine and one dessert for £44. Upstairs was quiet with a view out to Tranquil Vale. Service was very good.

Pub was ok but over priced! Mainly full of men on a Friday night!We went as couples and were the only ones there. This made the ladies toilets nice and clean though.Seating outside which I can image gets very busy on a day time for people watching as was packed outside on a chilly April Friday night.

The crown is a lovely restaurant/pub on the summer as you can sit outside in the beer garden and have some drink and even a luxury pub lunch! However the wait for the food is rather long but I tis worth it, the food is freshly made on order and VERY delicious!

See the title. Yes read on.....went to greenwich park earlier and went into the Crown Blackheath village. Food was great. We had burgers and they were cooked to our liking. Service ...,impeccable....the young man who served us was attentive, yet distant enough not to intrude and ready to help always. A generous tip is deserved for these good staff who put other top restaurants to shame. Young people in, middle aged, kids, all welcome and all get on in the great atmosphere! the best meal and service we've had in years in the uk ....Cheers shep neame....and thanks to the guy who was attentive, happy and great. You mate are underrated!

This is a well furnished pub in a very nice location. The Shepherd Neame beer was as expected excellent and my wife enjoyed her well presented coffee. There were no other customers before 12 noon on this quiet Friday lunchtime so we did not have to wait for our lunch order. We ordered two fairly cheap items off the menu - sausage sandwiches and a fishcake with salad. The sausages were excellent but the salad was rather disappointing. Very pleasant service. Our experience overall was enjoyable but I think this is only because of the time of day and the fact that we wanted only a light lunch.

This pub should be great. It's in a great location and its probably okay for a drink but my meal there was terrible. I had the steak pie and it was absolutely rock hard. It appeared like they had been keeping it warm for a few hours. I should have sent it back but didn't want to make a fuss in front of friends of friends! I won't be going back.

The location is the only pleasing feature of this place. Had a most disappointing experience here at weekend, would not recommend at all. Meal took ages to arrive and was only just edible, with the exception of the 'ham' of 'ham, egg and chips' which was definitely inedible, as it was microwaved sandwich ham, unpleasant in colour, texture and taste. The lettuce with burger meal was unwashed, still sprinkled with soil, the burger meal did not come with garnish described on menu, the vinegar bottle was empty, the tea pot lid was too small and kept falling in the pot, and we had to ask for milk, which was not brought till the tea was luke warm. We did not complain at the time: it was all too evident that nobody cared anyway. By no means unique to this pub, but just another detail in the lack of interest, was that the gents smelled strongly of urine, the hand dryer was broken and no paper towels or alternative was available, and one of the ladies loos had no paper......small points, but fairly fundamental and not difficult to correct.

Used this pub for 20 years now on a Friday nite, about 4 times a year. Blimey, if it gets any emptier, it wil shut. Its a nice place, bar staff good, beer OK but expensive - £4.35 lager. It used to be rammo, but now its empty. Shame really. !!

Very nice pub in blackheath very well run clean and tidy, staff are very friendly, they have a good bar and food selection with outside tables

I last visited this pub back in February and once again I was not dissatisfied. All members of staff were friendly and helpful. I have to say, the service timing for our food was quick and fresh. I went for fish and chips and my partner went for chicken and chips. Both meals were your typical pub meal. I felt the pricing for our meals were spot on for the quality. Both were yummy! :) The waitress that served us was friendly and cheerful.

This is a nice enough chain pub, it serves standard Shepherd Neame pub food - service at the bar is fine and the food comes quickly. Its the typical burger / egg and chips / nachos-type pub menu - all very much of a much.

I have had a few drinks here at different times and like the venue. A friend and I ordered 2 fish and chips the last time but was disappointed with the food, the fish was very poor. We left most of our meals behind and the waitress didn't even ask us if we liked the meal or if there was a problem .
