Had a wonderful Sunday lunch with family, 2 of us were greedy and had the 5 meats, the other 3 stuck to the 1 meat and veg. We all thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality that the owners put on, we will definitely be back when we come to visit our daughter as the owners run a great establishment, absolute credit to them.

Heard good things about this pub, however upon visiting it maybe they were talking about somewhere else. Shabby decor, disinterested bar lady, who when I asked about the choice of Ales , looked confused and asked if I meant lager. In the end there was a choice of one. No ice for my wife’s Gin. My halloumi burger was average, but my wife sent her lasagne back , as it was inedible. It was replaced however with an edible version, still nothing to write home about. You could hear the microwave beeping constantly in the kitchen. Won’t be returning sadly.

If you want good quality pub food I can recommend this pub. The portions were large which doesn’t always equate to a good meal but the Shepherd & Crook offer good size portions cooked to a high standard. Our party had an age range from 18-87 with one being a vegetarian and all were happy,

Visiting the Shepherd and Crook is all about nostalgia for me, we used to have caravan holidays in nearby Dymchurch during the 70's and early 80's and used to visit the pub regularly. Then last year I came back for the first time in over 40 years and had a great afternoon. Visited again yesterday for drinks and a Sunday roast, to sum it up "amazing". Great food, same lovely atmosphere as all those years ago, friendly locals and a lovely family keeping it all together. Thank you so much, see you again soon.

On the recommendation of friends we went for midweek lunch with two couples down from London. The bar, where we ate, and the service, were cold. Prices were reasonable, compared with other pubs in the area. Food was OK but nothing special. A suggestion to the owners: there are far too many dishes on offer, so by prune them by two thirds to a sensible pub menu - and try to smile and offer a friendly welcome to patrons. They might then come back.

Having been to this pub for a drink several years ago I decided, as a change, to go there for Sunday lunch, we booked ( best to book as it's only a small restaurant area) now to say the restaurant is nothing fancy may put some people off however we were greeted by friendly and efficient staff and we had a good choice on the menu, but we all opted for the Sunday roast which was rather good, the plate was piled high with not only the roast ( lamb in our case) loads of vegetables ( a good selection) and potatoes and the obligatory Yorkshire pudding ( these were especially good) and ample thick gravy......quite often you have to ask for extra but not in this case. The roast potatoes were a little hard but still tasty. One of the party had a small portion but even that had plenty on the plate.

The choice of sandwiches was great and the other food that we saw being served looked lovely too and all plates were going back to the kitchen empty. Even for sandwiches there was a little wait, which we didnt mind as we knew all the food was freshly prepared to order, and the pub was busy at the time. The sandwiches we ordered were of a good size and very generously filled, with a lovely dressed salad and crisps on the side. We were put in the restaurant side, which was very clean with lots of things to look at on the walls. Our food did take a while to come out but there is a sign explaining that this may be as it’s all cooked from fresh! The food certainly was cooked from fresh! It was outstanding. Nothing was to much for them! We certainly will be returning! Only tiny gripe and it is a gripe not a complaint. It was quite cool in temperature whilst in the restaurant.

This was our second visit the Shepherd & Crook for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed. This time we ate in the bar and our table was by the log burner which was just perfect considering the very low temperature outside. We were made very welcome on arrival. The lunch was £10.95 for One course or £13.95 for two. I had the lamb and my wife had chicken. Both meals were plated and on arrival the portions were large. Plenty of both meat and vegetables which were superbly cooked and extremely tasty. Unfortunately due to the amount of food on the first course we were too full to try a desert. Which I am sure would have been on par to the mains. Great lunch with super background music, which today was for people of a certain age (70+). With you want good food excellent hospitality then this is a must. It may be advisable to phone before you go and I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Did not stay overnight but stopped for a quick drink and enjoyed the sea view from the terrace. Good service, place was generally clean and pleasant. Only slight negative point was the rusty frame under the tables, which had potential to injure bare legs or feet.
