Not very busy during our visit.Staff were friendly enough but not very attentive. 6X ale was in good condition but ales different from website. We ordered one starter (to share) and 2 mains to follow. All 3 dishes came at the same time. Staff not sure why. Food was tasty enough and v good value.Empty plates took ages to be cleared away. More customer focus and better training required.

Not spoilt for choice in this village.. And unfortunately that choice is The Shelly Arms.. Generally a bit grubby and looking unkempt.. Drinks were OK - but based on previous reviews avoid the food.. How difficult is it to keep a place up to scratch ? - shows a lack of attention or care for details.. If there was another option this place would either pull its finger out or close..

It was the first time we had been here. The food is good value mine was about £12.00. Also, although we didn’t try, this time. They have a pensioner menu. It says on the menu that this portions are slightly smaller. But we will definitely be back to try them. If I remember correctly, most of them just were just under £8.00. I have been told that you can pay that for a sandwich in some places.

Big heads up to The Shelley Arms for coming to our rescue! 12 of us pensioners, (more if they had known about it!) were for weeks without our local AgeUk being available to us, for our regular Friday get together and lunch. Ryan and Andy did us proud and made an area available to us and provided us with amazing Pensioners Meals, which were both delicious and very good portion sizes! We all like it so much there that it will be our go-to place in the future, for any gatherings and will tell anyone who'll listen, all about the friendliness and helpfulness of the wonderful staff there! No age discrimination at the Shelley Arms! Thank you! 🤗 Maureen & the Friday Group. Xx

3 of us went for an impromptu lunch whilst on holiday. No idea what to expect, but we couldn't have landed in a better place! Our daughter (16) is autistic, & we hadn't realised that there was a live singer. The noise was too much for our teen who became distressed, but it took the barmaid, Tania, no time at all to swiftly & discreetly relocate us to a quieter area behind some doors so that the volume was vastly reduced & our daughter could relax to enjoy her lunch. The food here is excellent quality, well cooked & enough to feed an army as well as our hungry cockapoo!! The service second to none, & the welcome even better!! We were made to feel so much at home that we returned for a 2nd time later in the week. Highly recommend this pub, for drinks, coffee or a meal.

We had a good evening but the food was really poor. Only the middle bit of the pies were edible as the outer bit/crusts were so hard you could not even get a fork in them! There was minimal filling. The pies came with undercooked chips, hard and stringy beans and water thin gravy. I know it’s cheap pub food but it should be edible! Definitely would not recommend.

We visited on Saturday 24th April, with a warm welcome. Donna served us throughout the afternoon, she was very friendly and helpful and we never had to wait to be served at any point during the afternoon, even though it was very busy, great service! The two real Ales they had on which were Wadworth and Timothy Taylor were kept perfect, very tasty!! After looking at the tasty menu we decided to go for lunch, we had the Chicken Wing Bowl with sweet potage fries from the smokehouse menu, really delicious food!!! Lots of Gluten free options too. Looking forward to returning soon. Thank you for a great afternoon!

came here for a meal while in the area, very disappointed, i had the pie which was cold and chewy, and my fiancé had the lasagne which had clearly come from a ready meal packet as there was a large piece of plastic in it. staff were good enough to refund both meals but chef clearly doesnt have a clue. also felt like we were intruding into the "locals" pub, and felt like people were constantly watching us.

visited for a birthday meal on Thursday when it is a special night for fish/scampi. 2 of our party of 4 had the fish and chips - when they arrived they looked nice but were cold and not cooked inside. The guy said he'd get replacements which was fine. So 2 of our party continued eating - one had the liver which was lovely and one had ham, egg and chips, the ham has lovely but the eggs were fried hard so no dunking of chips. When the replacement fish arrived the fish was frozen inside! He said he would take them off the bill and replacements would be on the house, so they played safe and went for the ham, egg and chips - one had runny eggs the other had hard eggs. Don't think they have a proper cook didn't risk the pudding!

I visited here one Saturday lunchtime after a fantastic walk with friends. The surrounding countryside is lovely and well worth a visit, not so the pub. The interior is a traditional style pub with TV screens up for the football. Bar staff were fine. i thought i would push the boat out with a kangaroo burger....but to be honest is was so dry and overcooked it wouldn't have made a difference what it was. The food and presentation was plain and a bit dull. To be fair to he pub the others I was with were more complimentary about the food so maybe I was unlucky, but given the choice out there, i won't be rushing back. Too many other places to try.

Large old-school village pub which probably looks better in the sunshine. When we visited on recent weekday lunchtime it was heaving down and as black as your hat outside. Consequently, somewhat gloomy indoors and not helped an interior decor of dark red brick, jet black beams and murky green and brown paintwork. Bit brighter at the more modern end of the pub where a conservatory lets in a bit of light, but we were warned away from that area due to lack of heat. We ended up in the more traditional area near the fire, sharing the bar area with a small group of OAP's and a few workman from a nearby development. The lady behind the bar was pleasant enough, and the menu certainly offered ample choice with plenty of the usual pub grub suspects including a good range of burger variations. Absolutely no complaints with my choice of pie and chips. Nice, big, totally enclosed steak and ale filling with thick pastry all over. Obviously not home-made but well-sourced nonetheless. Accompanying green beans and carrots adeptly cooked al dente, and the little boat of thick gravy was a welcome touch. Chips were fine too - not too big and quite crisp. Even Mrs EPR's hunter's chicken looked carefully prepared and not over-nuked, often a regular transgression elsewhere.Had a look round afterwards and observed a pool table in pride of place at the other end of the bar, plus the rather chilly conservatory which must be the usual dining area when numbers are higher.Quite a locals pub, I imagine, and certainly not flounced up or gastro. Fine for a standard pub lunch; but would be interested to see how it performs when busy.

Sunday carvery was very very disappointing. We booked for 1pm but there was hardly any meat available when we arrived. We waited at least 20 minutes for a tiny turkey joint to appear which was all used by first 4 customers. Others had to wait again for next sad little piece of meat to arrive. Joints were smaller than I would cook at home so somewhat pathetic & by 1.30pm there was only the ends of the beef & ham left. Worse still, though roast potatoes were nice & fresh other Vegetables were frozen & green beans were not cooked. The serving dishes looked small & uninviting, & there was only a choice of mushed up cauliflower cheese frozen baby carrots & uncooked frozen French beans. Definitely would not recommend on yesterday’s experience & would not go back for food. Only achieved 2 stars as meat tasted ok. Rest of the meal would sadly only rate 1 star.

Between us we had a burger, rabbit pie, infant burger & infant sausage & mash. Lovely that they do infants & childrens portions to cater for different ages children. Great meal sizes for our 2 & 4 year old. Burger was delicious and homemade, the rabbit pie was exemplary served with mash & veg. The desserts however let it down slightly, kids had ice cream which was fine but we had a chocolate brownie and banoffe pie both of which were just frozen puds (the latter still being partly frozen)

Since moving to Broad bridge Heath a few months ago I have been frequenting the Shelley Arms a few times every week! Upon first impressions I didn't think much but as they say never judge a book by the cover! The landlord, Richard and his staff are excellent. They have made the Shelley Arms into a community asset and I always feel welcome every time I enter the doors. Its clean, tidy and well maintained. I have never eaten here so cannot comment or the food side but the beer is always well kept and a good selection of spirits! (Except when there was a bizarre gin in the vodka incident and no one could fathom how as we were drinking the same bottle of vodka prior!)

Fair enough.I then chose cod and chips and my partner a burger. His burger was fine, but my cod and chips were very disappointing. The fish was soggy and I couldnt even be sure it was cod. The fish wasnt fresh, I think it was frozen. The meal was served on paper on the plate and the mushy peas soaked through the paper, which meant it was very difficult not to eat paper! We then asked for a cappuccino to be told the machine wasnt working.Such a disappointing visit.

Popped up to the Shelley Arms after work with my sales team. There were four of us in total. The bar was only busy in one corner (looked like the regular's). We stood there for over five minutes until I had to ask the only bar person to be seen (a woman who had an attitude of I do not want to be here) if we were going to get served sometime soon. At this point she started serving the regular customers already seated around the bar, before ourselves. I voiced my disgust in her not acknowledging us, before we hastily left and went to another pub a few miles up the road.It amazes me that a so called local community pub such as the Shelley Arms would allow some one like that to front the business at any time, when clearly they are not fit for the position. If this is to carry on I cannot see the pub staying open for much longer, if this is a typical welcome offered to local business clientèle My advise. Stay away and spend your money somewhere that appreciates your custom and more importantly your hard earned money.

After work, myself and a couple of colleagues decided to go for a drink at the Shelley arms, it was midweek, and was just after 6pm, the pub was not that busy, but after waiting at the bar for over 5 minutes, the lady behind the bar didn't even acknowledge that we were there, even though she could clearly see us waiting.Even just a "Hi guys, we are a bit busy at the moment but I will be with you as soon as I'm free" would have been something, but we were not acknowledged at all! What disappointed us even more, was that it was only her serving drinks, and the locals sitting at the bar were all being served before us.We then decided to go to another local pub where the service and atmosphere was a lot nicer and were greeted as soon as we entered. We would not be in a hurry to visit the Shelley arms, and certainly wouldn't even consider having a meal there.

Nice enough pub, with a reasonable drinks selection and friendly staff. We visited for a family lunch (on recommendation) and the place is very geared up for food. However, the food is absolutely dreadful: over cooked, bland and (in the case of the bao buns that I had) inedibly dry. Seems very popular, for reasons unknown to this visitor.

Unfortunately we felt on this occasion the food really was not up to the usual standard - whitebait over cooked - chips not their usual crispy delicious standard - but everyone has an off day and we said it would not deter us from returning HOWEVER we found out as we were leaving that after 14 years of trading the Orchard is due to close at the end of September 😔 So sad as , as a family some who are no longer with us it was always are “go to” place for a good quality home cooked meal . So what ever the owners plans are for the future we wish them good luck 😋
