Extremely over priced food went to joules pub tonight same food choices nachos and burger far better food at a fraction of the price and better facilities. Make sure you look around

Very burnt burger, extremely oily and overdone chips. I ate a few of the chips but I couldn't eat the rest as they did not taste good and were full of oil, really off putting. As seen in the photo the burger was well overdone and burnt. I did mention it to the waiting staff but couldn't hang around for another meal to be made so ate the burger and left. I have visited this restaurant a number of times over the years but stopped going due to the very iffy food quality, it is really hit and miss, seems it is still the same. If you like the metallic clatter and scraping noise of eating on a stainless baking tray, like nails on a chalk board, this place is for you!

Awful Service Awful Food. Service Very poor an Very Slow for a Sunday Evening. Ordered Battered Haddock Which Was Very Dry and Pre-cooked. Mushy Peas Came in a Small Dish and was Just a Teaspoon Full. Fastly overpriced .. Waitress was Constantly pushing to sell Side dishes. Went with a Family of 5 Adults Food was Very overpriced for what we recived.

Having read some scathing recent reviews I was a tad apprehensive of what to expect when we visited the Blockhouse at the Sheet Anchor for Sunday Lunch. Nevertheless we decided to go all in and chose the chicken strips starter followed by a shared Meat Sweats main. Ordering was a pleasure; the young lady attending to us was polite, friendly and as delightful as one could wish for. Drinks arrived promptly and we had very little waiting time before the food followed. The starter arrived piping hot and the batter surrounding the chicken was light and crispy. Two small bowls for the sauces, all excellent, accompanied the four strips (per portion) and a light garnish of finely chopped red and green mild chilli peppers brought colour to the dish. The main course was a banquet, a feast, a platter of beef, chicken, ribs, sausage etc with accompanying loaded fries, mac and cheese, garnish. Humungous and mouth-wateringly fabulous to behold. We dived in and found no fault whatsoever. A regular at one of Blockhouse's competitors I had to concede that this was the best grill and barbecue venue I had ever visited. The food was amazing, service delightful and surrounding decor most suitable. The other diners around us seemed equally impressed and there were no signs of negativity at all. A wonderful experience.

Food was ok. Service was ok. However, there was a problem from what i saw and overheard between management and a customer, from my understanding of what i heard, they sent a meal back and the manager ( i believe her name was Ella) gave some attitude back to the customer, then a male manager who i think runs the restaurant came over and started a dispute with the customers and they were trying to put their punt across by saying the food was inedible and the managers attitude wasn’t appreciated, he then started raising his voice to the woman and turned around and said the young girl (who was a customer on the table) her attitude was bad even though she hadn’t said anything other than putting her point across, in my opinion the customer is always right and the way they spoke to the customers was unacceptable and should be respectful towards customers. As a customer who has been to the other restaurants i have never seen 2 managers be so rude to a group of customers. The managers were passive agressive and rude. other than that the experience was ok.

Food quality very poor, sadly. Our initial greeting was surly. The buttermilk chicken exceptionally salty. The outside visibly burnt (the cook would have noticed this when plating up thus saving us the embarrassment of sending the food back) and inedible in large sections. The brioche bun was so hard that it was impossible to cut with a knife. We did point this outside to the waitress who collected our plates at the end and witnessed the charcoal debris on the plate. The burger was similarly overcooked with the meat very thin and dry. Should we have sent it back? Of course, but we hate making a fuss. We weren't actualky asked if the food was OK during the meal - we were asked three times if we had any allergies! Come on, Paragon Group, you stand for better than this from our experience of your other venues! The cook really should have be doing a little Q.A. on the pass!

Seated for 2 hours before we saw a main then when food did arrive 3 orders were wrong and sent my full rack of ribs back as they were stone cold. When they did arrive back hot I’ll be honest they weren’t worth the money. Never again

Beautiful restaurant with lovely decor, friendly staff, delicious food and a great choice of drinks. Only downside is not enough parking for the size of the restaurant. Been twice since discovering this place and both times got very lucky as people were leaving so we could park.

Our waiter (Jordan I think his name was) was really pleasant which encouraged me to keep the service charge on which I usually don't agree with. The ambience was superb and the wait times between courses could not have been better. The food presentation was on point as well as the quality as well as there being plenty to choose from. Not much at all to grumble about, so thank you.

Good food, but a shame about the poor inexperienced passive aggressive manager. Story below. We sat down and ordered our meal which was cooked beautifully. Waiter took the order very well and took the menus away. Soon after they left the table, we had a train of thought to order some food for the kids. (Rather than our own lunchbox prep). (They both have gluten/diary/soya intolerances) We asked the nearest waiter if they had any burger/chips (small, kids) which could be without all seasoning, any allergens etc. He said we could do a burger patty with a few chips which is what we got. At this point, we didn’t know the pricing or the fact that it was on the menu. We knew burgers were on the menu as a whole thing, but not as an individual item. When it came to receiving the bill, it was £17.50 for two plates. Each plate had one singular thin beef patty which was burnt on the outside and the smallest amount of chips. I thought this was really expensive for what we received so I spoke to the manager and cut the long story short, he said (in the rudest, most passive aggressive tone) to “read the menu next time”… I’m sorry? We didn’t have a menu as these were taken away and it was a verbal discussion with the waiter at the time. With it being from the kids menu, I wasn’t expected to pay under £10 for one singular patty and about 15 small fried chips. Please get your manager some management training on how to speak to the customers and not to make assumptions that we had menus in front of us as this was a discussion after the menus had been removed. Compared to a previous experience was disappointing to say the least. Having had the butchers block sharing platter before the menu was changed a while ago, me and my wife excitedly ordered the most similar item from the new menu ‘meat sweats’. Our last experience was amazing, we felt the portion size and quality of the meat on offer was incredible and a fair price for the platter and this is what prompted us to return to the restaurant this time bringing some friends with us. The new meat sweats platter does not live up to its name at all, the portion size seems to have halved compared to the butchers block, we had to ask if there was any brisket even on the platter, we had two pieces each hidden under some steak. The ribs were half the size and the sausages have changed and are much poorer quality. We upgraded our fries to the loaded fries, they were supposed to be topped with pulled pork, there was hardly any pulled pork on the fries at all just lots of the crackling and waffle, had better loaded fries at Wetherspoons. Our friends were disappointed too, they ordered individual plates and went home hungry, they even cooked food when they got home! It’s safe to say I won’t be making a return to the blockhouse anytime soon, I will say on a positive note that the staff did provide a good level of service and were friendly.

Family of 4 went for meal for a special occasion. Order taken, pleasant polite staff all time. Food disappointing, had to send the buttermilk chicken burger back twice for my daughter due to it being black first time then second time it was half black and half golden. We were told that the chef cooks it to black so it’s crispy, I look forward to seeing this on the block house images of a black buttermilk burger and see what people’s thoughts are. We were compensated for the meal and apologies made, which was appreciated but when something is not cooked right it shouldn’t be pretended that it is. Sadly we won’t be back anytime soon.

A sincere thank you. It was a day to celebrate our daughter getting accepted for university so wanted something special. The welcome was the best I've ever experienced. Maisie was incredible. She welcomed Rebecca and made her feel like the the center of the universe. We were shown to our table which was decorated beautifully. We had ordered balloons and Prosecco, but what was simply beautiful - was a personalised, hand written card congratulating Rebecca. It brought my wife to tears. The food and atmosphere was wonderful, but the one take away that we will always remember was Maisie. She made it such a special and memorable day.

Visited as a family whilst we was staying nearby, can't fault the place, food was delicious, friendly staff, table and restaurant as a whole was spotless, wish we lived closer to make our way through the menu! If ever we are in that neck of the woods will return and highly recommend anybody to eat here.

I know it’s a steak house but disappointed that only one Vegan meal was available & it wasn’t a good burger at all - no milk alternative available for a Lattè after the meal - it was a family celebration otherwise obviously I wouldn’t have chosen a steak house but it would’ve been good to have another option or if the one option had been a good vegan burger

Nice place, wasn't busy at the time we were there. Food was excellent, good portions, tasty and the chicken was juicy and light batter. The let down was slow service, too long waiting for orders to be taken. The guys came quickly after orders taken and staff were very friendly. Maybe because we were out of the way they kept missing us. Anywhere else and a 5 would not have been possible for that reason, here the food more than made up for it.

Finally got to eat at the Blockhouse after driving past it on several occasions always thinking we need to try there sometime! Menu is different to many places around. We opted for sharing dish called Meat Sweats and we were not disappointed with 5 different meats all cooked to perfection on offer along with macaroni cheese, chips and grilled corn on the cob. The decor is fresh and service great too. We will definitely visit again even though it’s a bit of a distance away from home as it’s worth it!

Went tonight for our daughters 4th bday. Food was lovely but very slow service!!! Surprised as we went at 5pm so kids didn’t have to wait too long as we know it does get busy in there. Waited over half an hour to order main then gave up and left at 7pm as nobody came to take dessert orders. Could have just walked out without paying and I don’t suppose any staff would have noticed yet!! Won’t rush back which is a shame because the food is lovely but the staff would rather stand around talking

I love the varied menu options and the inspired American cuisine. You don’t get menus like this elsewhere and that’s what makes it different. Value for money is unmatched as the portions are huge! Fajitas were delicious Only upset was the inedible items on the plate. One guest mistook salt for cheese and this was very unpleasant. So please no inedible items on the plate, especially in large quantities!!!
