Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall in Harrogate

This was a birthday present and the whole experience was exquisite from food to the staff. A shout out for Kayleigh who was exceptional and explained everything in full detail and always made sure we were happy with a lovely smile. An experience not to be missed.

A great experience with friendly professional staff greeting you, looking after your car and then an exceptional experience in the restaurant.

We stayed at Grantley Hall for a long weekend for our Ruby wedding anniversary and couldn’t fault it, other than our meal at Shaun Rankin. The service and ambience was good but we were disappointed with the tasting menu. It was ok, but not as good as expected, one course was just bread and butter!! The desserts were good. We’ve eaten at a few Michelin starred restaurants and this one is at the bottom of our list for its food. Would visit Grantley Hall again but not this restaurant.

Shaun Ranking was subline and filling the 10 course tasting menu (Which we don't normally have) was thrilling we couldn't fit another morsel in after the 9th course. The recommended wine was very pleasant. From entering the place to leaving was a great experience that I would certainly attend again. Both of us had a superb meal.

We took a few of our team here as a thank you. We had the Kitchen table experience and it was a 6 star evening. The service was exceptional and the food totally divine. Shaun and his team made all of us feel so welcome. Fabulous evening and an event we will always cherish. Thank you.

We try to do a couple of Michelin restaurants per yer (at least) as we enjoy our food and the whole experience. Grantley was definitely on the hit list so we headed for a taster menu experience. The restaurant is swish, fairly formal, but not too stuffy. The staff were attentive and friendly and had lots of time to chat and explain drinks and food. The menu was of course set and fabulous. For a taster menu the portions were also very good; quite often they’re quite small and barely a taster, but these courses were pretty generous. We also opted for the cheese course (extra of course) but I have to say, probably wasn’t needed as we were too full for our post dinner chocolates! The food was great, would love to go back. The only slight gripe was that many of the courses arrived to the table when part of the party were not ready (I.e had vacated for a loo break), so on more than one occasion we needed closhes to keep food warm! Once or twice the overview of the course was also given before all the table were present. I have never seen this happen in any Michelin star restaurant before, and just didn’t feel right. If you love your food and want a treat then this is the pace….but service should serve the whole table

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left this was a 5 star experience and faultless in every way. It’s not often our expectations of a place like this are not just met, but exceeded. We can’t recommend this place, and the hotel in general, highly enough. Outstanding service, food and ambience.

Recently paid a visit to this restaurant and it was amazing. Set within Grantley Hall, which in itself is an out of body experience, this is fine dining at its very best. We were fortunate enough to have a table in the actual kitchen for our tasting menu and it was excellent. The service from the staff,both kitchen and front of house, was first class. The food was excellent and very varied, all came with an explanation of its makeup. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

I came with my wife for a private dining event and had my expectations exceeded. From the wonderful setting, the welcome on arrival at the gate, the exceptional service to the exquisite dishes, I was blown away. We tried a 7 course tasting menu which was accompanied by a wine pairing and enjoyed the whole experience. The food was sensational, my personal favourite was the venison. Each wine complimented the dishes well, my personal favourite was the Barolo. Overall just sensational, must try experience. Lauren and her team were excellent from start to finish.

What an amazing evening, the food, service and setting were all exceptional!!! Every single one of the 10 courses from tasting menu were amazing. Service throughout the evening was friendly and efficient. You will be lucky to find anything better than this! Thank you.

We’d had our eye on this restaurant for a while and decided to book to celebrate for our 12th wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful evening in the most stunning dining room, fit for the royals. The decor and ambiance is just perfect, from the subtle background music to the table layouts and chair’s everything is just top notch. All the staff were lovely, we had some lovely conversations which we personally enjoy as part of the dining experience, Lauren was lovely sorry we didn’t catch the other names. Each course was stunning and I felt the scallop and wine pairing was the best pairing I’d ever had and we’ve had many tasting menus. We were treated to a lovely anniversary card and made to feel extremely welcome and special. We really liked the last course cheese and apple cake, really nice to see some cheese included and not have to opt for an additional cheese course, nice touch. We always visit a fine dining restaurant for our anniversary and this was very special and definitely worth a visit. Thank you to all the staff.

We are not massively experienced in Michellin Star tasting menus but went for our 20th wedding anniversary. We hear lots of flowery language from "experts" on how dishes taste. We just enjoyed the experience and every single course. We were asked a few times what our favourite course was. We couldn't choose. Every one was beautifully presented, and the tastes were astonishing. The wine pairing was perfect. You can't describe it unless you have experienced it. On top of that, the service was immaculate, and the hotel is a showcae of good taste and a tribute to Valeria (we were lucky enough to stay overnight). If you ever get the chance and/or have something to celebrate, l suggest that you experience this.

This restaurant simply outstanding. An experience from beginning to end. A beautiful setting, we were able to enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the drawing room which was a lovely way to start our meal where they served us lovely canapés. Going through to the dining room we found ourselves in a really lovely sophisticate, elegant dining space. The service was attentive but not overwhelming and genuinely friendly and informative. And then the food – a tasting menu of local produce, which was both beautiful and delicious. You have to admire such clever, intricate cookery, each dish like a work of art. We had the prestige wine pairing which had a heft price tag but was so beautifully thought out and spot-on every time. What a gem of a place. We are plotting our return.

We visited Grantley Hall for a celebration having booked some weeks previously. Two of the four in our group have food allergies which were put on the booking forms. The restaurant contacted me by phone a week before the booking to confirm if the food requirements were a choice or necessity, something which made me feel confident that they were on the ball. For top class restaurants a food allergy can be be catered for by replacing an item with an alternative. Not at Shaun Rankins, they just miss the item off. One of the courses had a Yorkshire pudding. Clearly the kitchen is either too lazy or incapable of producing an alternative for the gluten free diner. Baring in mind this is a michelin star restaurant with the price to match I find this staggering. I also found the fact that the wrong dishes were placed to he wrong people jaw dropping when food allergies are involved, this could of been catastrophic had it not been noticed at the last minute. I would be very wary if you have any dietary requirements considering eating here.  Personally I found it a disappointing  expensive experience. 

Went on a Sunday lunch time. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet, which surprised us. The service was impeccable from our arrival. We had a glass of champagne in the lounge area whilst we viewed the tasting menu. The courses are varied and all local produce and the maitre d explains everything in detail which is so interesting. The food is amazing. Could not fault any of it and we were made to feel so special. The sweets at the end are to die for.

About 3 years ago we had planned to go, but looking at the reviews, we noted that people were not happy with the predominantly vegetarian courses. Looked at the reviews recently and noticed excellent reviews and the menu had changed, suggesting the chef had made a change based on reviews, which is always good to know. We were welcomed even before we went into the restaurant. The staff of the Grantham hotel reception were really lovely. We first had a drink at the pretty modern looking bar- where again the staff were genuinely lovely. Once we started at Shaun Rankin, we couldn't fault anything at all. The service was beyond good (having been to a few Michellin restaurants, we were very pleased, subtle, professional , thoughtful service), the food was lovely (every course was nice), and the somelier was lovely (young Black lady who was assisting I think and new), she very knowledgeable and so pleasant, we had exceptional wine pairings. Its one of the top 3 of Michellin stars we've been to. The restaurant was in the beautiful settings of Grantham hotel, which in itself was lovely and green.

Outstanding service … we received the usual warm welcome… The dining room is superbly appointed. The staff are utterly charming. The food has the “WOW” factor on steroids! We were given a gift voucher for Champagne Afternoon Tea for two. Having lived in Ripon most of my life I was delighted to experience Grantley Hall now rated 5*. We have enjoyed Afternoon Tea in several different places, including some sumptuous 5* establishments. The drawing room, where Afternoon Tea is served, is undoubtedly sumptuous and superbly decorated and furnished. The attention to detail in the refurbishment was evident. We began with a glass of champagne which was said to be Moët, however it was brought to us already poured. Wish we’d seen it poured from the bottle as this would’ve allayed any doubt it really was Moët. The savouries arrived with an absolutely teeny tiny Coronation chicken vol au vent, a half inch slice of sausage roll and some uninspired sandwiches. The bread was barely soft and far too thick to be dainty or for the amount of filling. The cream cheese and cucumber one was so thinly spread (or smeared) that the cheese could not be tasted at all. I would be embarrassed to serve those sandwiches at home, certainly not 5*. The sweets followed with 3 fancies, a little fruit and plain scone, jam and cream. All looked lovely but having had so much bread already we couldn’t face all the sweets. Those we managed were delicious and the rest were boxed beautifully to bring home. Sadly, the one I was most looking forward to, the chocolate and nut one, didn’t make it to the box, it somehow dematerialised between the drawing room and the kitchen! I must say, however, the Earl Gray tea was par excellence. At £67.50 per person and supposedly 5* it really wasn’t. The staff were lovely, the presentation elegant, the Hall splendid, the gardens superb, but the Afternoon Tea was “ full of promise, but no fulfilment”, and an awful lot of money for what it actually was. Another review stated “fur coat, no knickers” I would agree with that comment.
