Sharod in Redbridge

After moving away from Barkingside 10 years ago and going to Sharod Restaurant regularly we loved it Food was beautiful all freshly cooked . On our return last night 23/7/24 what a disappointment food tasted like it had been pre cooked then warmed up ..

I ordered online with just eat… I didn’t go into the restaurant but I feel this needs to be said. As an ex customer of this restaurant I thought I’d try them out again on just eat. And I have to say the food was disgusting. I don’t say this lightly but it’s the worst Indian food I’ve ever had the misfortune to order, I’m only glad I didn’t order a lot or a jalfreze at £12. Never again… I’ll stick with Abshar from now on. I even washed the sauce off of the curry and gave my dog the chicken, the sauce was not good and the onion bhajis were like wet dough throughout. The only thing I actually ate. Was the mango chutney with the popodoms which I have had better. I don’t know what happened to this once busy restaurant but I will never order from them again. Paid good money for something onlyfit for my dog and the bin. Very disappointed.

We booked for 7pm and was ignored for the first 45 mins. We had to ask them 3 times to order our meal even though there was only two other tables occupied. We eventually got our meal at 8.30pm. It was so oily the food was swimming. The chicken was tasteless and the sag aloo was missing sag. When I complained the waiter/owner aggressively told me it wasn't his fault and I should have said I wanted it dry (no oil). The food was cold as well. His saving grace was to knock Mt disgusting 🤢 dishes off the bill. Suffice I didn't eat. Don't bother going there. There are plenty good Indian eateries around Barkingside/,Hainault.

I popped in here today as soon as they opened to get a takeaway. I ordered an onion bhajee starter and a meat korma with rice. My bag was packed with all that plus salad and chopped onion mix I n a pot also mint yoghurt. I was given a bag of maltesers as well. It all tasted wonderful and so much that I have enough for tomorrow. The inside has beautiful chairs and the restaurant has a calm feel to it. Someone else came in to order while I was there. I took some photos and a. Idea. Really impressed. You have to go there. It list clientele when another restaurant opened nearby. It was their ex Manage. A nice man but the people in Sharod were also nice. Please give it try. Tell them you read this.

ALWAYS check your bill. This restaurant has twice now added items to our bill that were never ordered. Pointed it out the first time and they corrected it, but tonight I just couldnt be bothered to challenge it. Won't EVER be using it again.

Best tour guide I have ever seen.. even I can not call him guide he is a brother from another mother..ethical trekking is the cheapest and the best tour and travels in entire pokhara.. will visit soon to meet my brother and to explore more.. thanks

We arrived at restaurant and the table was not even set for us, just had knives and forks put in the table in a pile. Poppadums came straightaway bit had to ask for dips and salad and even then no cuynry. Had to wait 5 mins for dips. Chicken tandoori average, came with a decent salad. Chicken jalfrezi was average, way too much oil. Had to ask three times for a second bottle of cobra. Two waiters sat chatting. Sag aloo was bland. My girlfriend was given a packet of munchies at the end of the night but hardly makes up for the service from the rest of the evening

Food really bland and inedible due to it being swamped in oil. Not cheap and very poor quality. We phoned to complain and no refund or discount offered. We all feel sick now :(. BTW this was a delivered take away order.

Food and service are really good, family-run business, they really have a handle on courtesy. Recommend this restaurant!!

Have been a few times. Very small, family run restaurant. Lovely food and very friendly service. Restaurant is small and popular, so it is necessary to book. At the end of each meal the owner/manager has given myself and my partner a free digestif (Baileys) and on leaving I have been given a box of Maltesers - nice touch!

I visited Sharod with my family and we had a really great evening. It is quite a small restaurant but that adds to the ambience. There were 8 of us and the service was very efficient. The food was really good quality and piping hot. The staff were friendly and could not do enough for us and at the end of the evening gave us a complimentary aperitif and chocolates. The food is reasonably priced and I would definitely go back.

Definitely my favourite Indian Restaurant! Food is real and tasty as well as being well sized portions and reasonably priced. Management and staff always very welcoming and a not rushed atmosphere! All in all a really good venue. If your in the area guys then try this place. Enjoy!

Firstly the good points are that the service was good and the staff friendly. Sadly that’s where the good points end. The chicken tikka tasted like processed chicken, the madras sauce runny and flavourless. Now for the cost: 1 bottle of beer and 2 cokes £12.00. 2 main meals, 1 rice, 2 nan breads 1 portion onion Bhaji £36.00Sorry but I find £48.00 for 2 meals that are not good far too expensive. Will not be returning.

Sharod is a welcoming curry house in Barkingside. Comfortable surroundings and friendly welcome. Convenient for a late night dinner with friends as well as evening out with family.

Me and my boyfriend visited here tonight, unfortunatly we aren't from the area, but we would highly recommend this restaurant!

this restaurant has been open in the area for many years the atmosphere is friendly & the cuisine is varied & a good selection from a concise menu service is good & the staff allow you time to enjoy the food there is no urgency once you are seated which allows time to savour the ambience

I have been coming to this wonderful restaurant for at least 5 years now. The food has always been excellent and the staff friendly and attentive.

Food is fine, but the waiting staff leave a lot to be desired. Little or no attention to diners, we had to ask for menus! What service we did get was turce and borderline rude, with no please or thank you when paying. Not impressed.

I must say that this is the best Indian Food ever, I love this place been coming here since it opened in the 90s, all my friends who visit from all over the world I always bring them here and on the return trips they always ask to go to the Sharod, it is a small place where the decor has just been improved, don't worry about it not being the best place it is the best food by a country mile, it does takeaway service which can be slow but worth the wait, but to in there is the best, staff are very friendly and always make you welcome, love this place

Never in the field of curry enterprises has such deliciously fresh and spicy food been served with such a dereliction of service without a smile.

I'm an Essex ex pat and every time I head home a trip to the Sharod is essential. No other Indian restaurant has measured up in my eyes...I highly recommend the prawn puree & lamb byriani.

Good food in comfortable old style restaurant. Personally I prefer this type of restaurant to all the new contemporary style trendy places. House wine very good. Staff attentive, couldn't do enough. Gave us a drink on the house and a little gift when we left. Excellent evening.

First time time we've​ used the Sharod and fancied getting a delivered takeaway. 40 mins later, we're tucking into the best Indian takeaway we've ever had. Great service, great value and cooked to perfection.

Good food good service a regular haunt for myself and wife and kids the food is always good and the staff can't do enough for you

Does anyone else look back to the halcyon days of indian restaurants. The days when indian music was piped through the speakers, when the walls were awash with flock wallpaper, when taj mahal silhouettes were carved out of teh windows with treated plywood. Sharod is unashamedly "old school" in its approach. Its Ronseal for curry houses and personally I love it. The staff are great, the menu great and the food truly excellent. It's not tried to evolve but stayed loyal to what it is and all the better for it in my opinion. Excellent value and all ladies get to leave with a box of chocolates. The decor is tired and that just adds to the experience. If you want a proper indian then come here. you won't be disappointed.

The food is excellent from this restaurant. Unfortunately when it was delivered I was told that there would normally be an extra charge as my post code does not fall within the free delivery range. I did check on the Just Eat website and was told that The Sharod was within my post code range. However the food is excellent and I was not given the extra charge. It may be worth checking for future reference.

Cancelled my order, not impressed

I did not receive my whole order. Wen I contacted sharod I was assured I would get the nan bread I order. (×3 but I got ×1) was told the other 2 get delivered. Waited and nothing was delivered. Dissapointed. And hungry as a vegetarian I went Withou.

It's so good that Sharod now uses just eat. I love Sharod food and often pick up a take away or eat in the restaurant. Last night was my second time to use just eat and will do so again

Excellent meal, good size portions, enjoyed by all. Excellent delivery with extras, would certainly pass on as a takeaway to use. I have enjoyed many evenings in the Sharod restaurant in Barkingside and the quality is equal. Well done

Been going to this okace since the first week it opened. Good has changed over the years but the quality, taste and portion sizes remain as good as ever! Staff, the owners, are from day one also. Chef produces a salmon tikka to die for!!! It's not on the menu so you have to ask for it. But it's divine and should definately not be missed in your next visit!Enjoy!

It's the best Indian you have ever had. It's a bit far from me to go but it was so nice. I went with my family but would be good for couples too. People are lovely and friendly here and make u feel welcome. Food is amazing will definitely be back.

Have had good curries from this place before but this one was disappointing- asked for a dry veg curry in the notes but that was ignored and we got the regular one which leaked everywhere in the bag. The sag paneer was watery and there was way too much oil in the madras :(

meal was great but was delivered at 18.00 I was advised that delivery would be at 20.00 which was fine as I had requested 19.30. I was not ready to eat at that stage so was very disappointed. Was not very happy when I rang and was told to put it in feedback as I would like to know why this happened

Just had a Saturday night dinner here. Been here many times before and the food is always great as is the service. But tonight we tried a new dish that's not in the menu. Salmon shashlick and it was fabulous. If u enjoy fish then you must ask for this one on your next visit. Really great night again! Thanks guys!

I'm so disappointed. The cost was immense compared to CT so would expect better but won't be ordering take away again it was dreadful & not what I expected seeing as eating in house is lovely. Poor form guys

I always forget about the little diamond of a restaurant as its tucked away and I think they only offer a pickup service but whenever I have ordered from them - the meal has always been lovely, really lovely

Used Sharod for the past 35+ years no problems ever, first take away food cold really disappointed but they did replace the food within 20 minutes still put me off takeaways from there in the future.

My mum ended up choking on a bone left in her dish. They blamed her for not checking for bones. Since when does a bhuna dish have bones in them? And why was there only 1 bone if the dish is supposed to be on the bone? They used to be a great place to eat. Won't be ordering from them again and will be warning others about the "random" bones!

Absolute top drawer! Food was brilliant, Delivery quick and a lovely little touch with the free Malteasers! Will be using all the time now!

Came here for our first date. 11 years of marriage and 2 children later we are still coming and bringing our family and friends with us would recommend them every time food is good and service friendly. Going again tonight for husbands Birthday.

Disgusting. If you want undercooked chicken and hair in your food, order from here, if not, steer well clear. Worst indian takeaway I've ever had. If you are local, order from Spice where the is of much better quality and more hygienic.

Took my two daughters with us tonight and the eldest is not a massive fan of Indian cuisine but the owner was so attentive that she tried a starter and main course and really enjoyed boy dishes! These are really nice people who genuinely care that you have an enjoyable time in the company!!Fabulous evening at a welcoming restaurant and would highly recommend this place to new and established Indian eaters!Thanks for a great evening guys!

This place used to be ok back in the day. Its totally rubbish now. So many other places to choose from on the high street. Even KFC provides better service, and on occasions better food. The price is also sky high with such small portions. Will not be going back here anymore.

How sad this restaurant has gone from excellent to very very poor. We have been regulars at this restaurant for well over 20 years. Could always be sure of having a tasty meal with good friendly service but definitely not anymore. Our last two visits were terrible to say the least. The food is now tasteless and the service couldn't be much worse. We were sat at a table that wasn't ready and we waited, and we waited and we waited. Finally after about 20mins of being ignored I asked for a menu and we then had another long wait before i asked again for the menu at which point it was like I had asked for the impossible. After another long wait the waiter finally threw them on the table. Still no drinks offered at all at any point. After another long wait I asked if we could order our food at which point I was made to feel like I had asked yet again the impossible. The waiter eventually came and took our order and went still without offerering drinks and still no table made as yet. We finally got poppadoms and onion salad and I asked if we could have some drinks. After a long while our drinks finally arrived. Our food was brought to our table and dumped down with no care at all. I then had to ask the waiter for cutlery and serviettes. He came back and literally threw them on the edģe of the table. We were so shocked. My nan bread was incorrect so I told the waiter and he was adamant it was the correct nan. After all these years I know the difference between peshwari and plain nans. All the food was tasteless and horrible. We asked for the bill several times and eventually manage to pay. No complimentary drinks or even a goodbye offered as normal despite us being frequent regulars over many years. After two occasions like this we definitely will not be returning. We always recommended this restaurant but not anymore. We have spoken to other regulars who agree. Very sad a nice restaurant has deteriorated so much.

Been going here for 10+ years last night was the last time. Order takeaway minimum spend for delivery is £15 mine came to £16.30 but they refuse to deliver it. Manager there was so rude on the phone and said that I would have to pay for the taxi to deliver it. Clearly they had not got a delivery driver that night and couldn't be bothered with the effort. Told me to cancel the order from my end which isn't possible. In end agreed to pay the extra and food came. Mediocre and cold. Never again. Shame as these guys used to be the best in town and customer service was their forte. Not any more. Indian Ocean Chigwell far better.

Sharod is more expensive than most other Indian restaurants we've tried but the quality of the food and the excellent service is worth it.

The order took 2 hours to arrive. We chased Sharod 3 times. They were very rude and unhelpful. When the food arrived it was cold. We would never order from here again!!! Disappointed doesn't even come close.

Been using this restaurant on and off now for over 20 years and it is their Chicken Shashli that I constantly return to this restaurant for.... it's to die for as they say. I have friends who come over from Australia who stay in central London but make the journey to this restaurant just for this dish as they say they cannot find in Australian or in England a comparable dish for the taste.We arrived just after opening time on a Weds evening and this may account for the rather lax service. We sat for 10-15 mins without a waiter coming over to us and when one did come he asked us what we wanted to order. We had not even seen a menu!! He seem rather upset that we had the sheer effrontery to ask for a menu!! When we ordered drinks they came over with the papadums and lime pickle and nothing else. After 10 mins I asked where the other pickles were and was told that they were still being made up in the kitchen. I would have thought they would have been ready for the restaurant opening. Once we were served with the pickles and onion salad with our papadums we were on our way. My wife ordered a vegetarian curry and I had the Chicken Shashli and we were not disappointed. Some two weeks later I can still imagine and almost taste the dish on the tip of tongue it is so mouth watering. It is presented on a sizzling plate with onions and peppers.I did note that a few "regulars" who came in were attended to straight away by the Service staff so I guess we not being regulars meant we were treated in a different way.That said all was forgiven by the time I'd finished my meal it was perfect. Once we had settled up they came over and gave us a box of maltesers and a small selection of Rose's chocolates to take home which our little fella was only too happy to eat.Slightly disappointed with the service but the meal more than made up for it.Will def be going again at some point.

So this is the second time I've been (first time was April 2015 and it was pretty decent food hence the return), and to say it was a bad experience is an understatement. The waiter that took our order was just not paying any attention, the food lacked in flavour/spice, and the naan bread wasn't even cooked properly. Admittedly what appeared to be the head waiter did try to make it up to us but the service overall was just appalling. We also got charged for poppadoms we didn't order...

Six of of eat tonight can't move as I'm too full of great food always good we will keep going I'm sure highly recommend if you haven't been don't hesitate

Best Indian takeaway I've had in a long while!

Great service and really good Indian food they can't do enough for you in this resteraunt we use it at least once a month and always walk out with a free beer and a box of chocolates great value and good food

We came via the Internet and the reviews were pretty good. It was our first visit. At 7:00 it was already busy, we were shown our table. We were promptly given poppadoms and menus were left on the table. Our friends were running late which wasn't a problem. It's clearly obviously that they are very welcoming to their regulars and look after them, which is good customer service. Our friends arrived and we ordered the food came and the food was excellent we all enjoyed our different dishes. It reminded us of the Indian Restaurants from the East End of London where we grew up on Indian Food. We were the last people in the restaurant and were not hurried at all. The manager came over and had a chat and banter with us , which was nice, he made us welcome. With the Bill came Maltesers for the women. It wasn't overly expensive 4 starter, 4 mains, sides and 4 vodkas, 2 pint of Beer and 2 Bottles of Nice wine for £125.00. I call that great value for money. All in all a great find and we will be going again.

Food was good when it finally arrived. 1 hour 45 mins for a delivery is way too long. When the food did arrive there were 2 missing dishes so we had to wait a further 20 mins for them to arrive. Suffice to say we won't be using Sharon again. Shame as the food was nice.

After quite a period of time we visited for a family Birthday, Malik over the moon to see us. Plenty of freebies, poppadoms/chutney, sweets and drinks at the end. In the middle the food was top notch as always, £100 for a family of 6 including drinks. Staff always attentive and helpful, I won't leave this for too long again!

Ordered at 5.45 for 7pm delivery turned up at 7.40pm with the wrong bread and wrong rice but by this time I was too Hungary so I ate it anyway the food was only warm not hot I think the driver didn't know where he was or where he was going have ordered from here before and the food was excellent shame it has slipped so quickly

Order was totally wrong. No meet tikka starter, no chapati and no saag paneer.....Pilau rice was missing but replaced with what looks some keema rice as has mince meat in it...Overall poor....
