Shapur Indian Restaurant in City of London, Westminster

We were keen to find a new curry house and this was a great find. Slightly tucked away next to the Courtauld / Somerset House but a delicious discovery. They have a large menu where you can choose a sauce to go with meat or prawns (or veg) plus a long list of specials and some delicious looking vegetable options. Very nice staff too, the guy who served us was great and gave us some of the history. Always nice to go to a place that has been established for such a long time (since the 70s). Very good food, really good depth of flavour to the sauces. Nice atmosphere, would be great for a large group. Have already picked what I'm having on our next visit!

Food is very delicious and services are also good.prices are also affordable,easy to delicious food within the minimum budget,nice experience.

Wir waren an unserem ersten Abend dort essen und waren enttäuscht. Der Service war schlecht (Bestellungen wurden vergessen, nachbestellter Reis hat lange auf sich warten lassen) und wir haben ein Stück Hartplastik im Essen gefunden. Wir hatten wohl einfach Pech, der Chef hat sich entschuldigt und uns die Servicegebühr erlassen. War enttäuschend. Schade. Das Lokal selbst ist sehr schön und geschmackvoll eingerichtet und die Lage sehr gut gelegen für ein Abendessen vor dem Theater.

Such a bad service, food was dry and tasteless and not at all up to the mark- it was an horrible experience to dine in even there and hated this as it was just a waste of time - its relly surprising that restaurants like these are even allowed with such low qualities to run the operations- terrible, so, please guys think before you step in that place because its not only about food but the Manager is even so judgmental and awful and staff is horrible too

I went to this restaurant by default, I was suppose to go to a restaurant called Paro in Covent garden. I went along with my sister and brother in law. I must say it was a great find. Food was tasty and was served with a lot of warmth. It was so good that we decided to go there the next day as well. Surely the manager went out of his way to provide us what ever we asked for. I would surely recommend this restaurant for a lovely Indian meal.

AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE. Honestly, for me this is the n.1 Indian in London. The waiters are great (especially Shuwab who is a laugh and he has been working on this place since a very young age). A coat hanger (hurray!!!) and all the details that you expect from a high end restaurant. Food is healthy, flavoursome and I have brought vegans vegetarians and all sorts of 'arians' and they were all very happy! I just hope that this review does not attract rowdy crowds because we like it just as it is. Thank you!!!

I never write reviews or at least very rarely and often never complain about food at a restaurant because I don’t like the impact to people’s business. However this place was so so disappointing for the location, they must pay an astronomical amount in rent, but they can’t be bothered to run a little white paint over graffiti in the men’s toilets. There is no draft cold beer, this is simply unacceptable for a curry house of any quality! Warm Cobra bottles, the starters were dry and tasted like they had been bought from iceland! The mint sauce was lovely but our curries were dreadful, so salty and not tasty at all! We were told it was a new chef but that is no excuse as you should have some form of quality control in place. The Naan bread was lovely, the service was friendly and people very nice and polite and welcoming. Rather than write negative reviews I just never return, however on this occasion I was really unhappy it was our London mini break and they offered a ridiculous 20% off! We didn’t even ask for anything off. If you can’t get a superb curry in the heart of London where can you? So incredibly poor, they have at least a years worth of work to turn this place around!

Another good late supper at Sitar. Nice food and good service. It used to be called Shapur but sadly Mr Khan died recently and I think it's changed hands... but happy to still see Shvel there... he always makes everyone feel very welcome...

We enjoyed courtesy ous welcome from the management, ordered Indian veg thali , Lassi and Samosas enjoyed the food the quantity and quality is above expectations.I hope they will manatain the quality for ever.Thanks to the management and staff of the restaurant.God bless them with prosperity and good Luck.

Lovely service and excellent food. Not overpriced for London. We recommend for good Indian food. Friendly staff and good atmosphere.

Best food ever ihad and hgih strnderd service

We ate few minutes ago. It was one od our best kitchen experience. And very nice surprise the waiter speaks Polish language what surprise us. Dishes very tast and fresh.

Visited this restaurant for the first time and was hoping for amazing food and customer service based on reviews, sad to say I was terribly let down and embarrassed as I was hosting some friends. The portion size of food was very small for the amount of people and price. Food could've had more spice/flavour Choice of drinks could be more especially having passion fruit juice. Had to repeat several times as the waitress didn't understand though we pointed it out on the menu. Waitresses are constantly hovering around watching over us as we were eating etc.... Terrible personal hygiene from waitresses, stale sweat smell. The manager could be more approachable and friendly. Based on this experience I won't return or be able to recommend.

Nice food but absolutely appalling service. The waitresses were totally hopeless, refusing even to take an order when we were ready. Both myself and another couple when we went to pay asked for any service charge to be taken off our bills. A German family next to us was also getting quite exasperated complaining that they had ordered their drinks 20 minutes ago and nothing had arrived. The restaurant wasn't even that busy! There were a lot of staff just hanging around and the two lady waitresses as I said were really poor and inadequate and orders were wrong etc. I heard one woman as she was leaving say 'well that was disappointing'. I don't blame her. The food was fine but the service totally atrocious.

Great service from new young staff and sensational food

Just returned from this fabulous restaurant, I read some of the reviews now can't believe anyone can say anything negative about this place. I opted for a mixed vegetable Biryani, this was served with a vegetable curry and I can honestly say this was the best Biryani I have ever had. The quality and quantity of this dish was amazing, beautifully spiced, perfectly cooked a pure delight. The other 3 people all had different dishes and everyone agreed that this restaurant is fantastic. When I am next in London I will certainly be visiting the Shapur again, 5 stars is not enough 5 star ++++++++++, is more relevant.

We visited here on our trip to London in May of 2023. It was just me and my dad there and we absolutely were sick of the flavourless food we got everywhere, giving Shapur a try just because it’s a name of a village in India was a great experience! The staff understood our need for flavour and promised us they’d tell the chef that their team has Indians to impress and not to hold back in the spice. They even spoke a little Hindi to my surprise, the staff was mostly all Bangladeshi. After asking the significance of the restaurant’s name I realised my theory was wrong, the head waiter told us that it’s the name a king. Checked up on us throughout and even offered to bring us straight red chillies in oil if needed. The atmosphere and aesthetics were beautiful too, it all looked clean. After as we were leaving, they hid us adeu and I think the sweet old manager/owner (not sure which) clicked pictures for us and blessed me. Honestly great staff and I wish them all the best and i wish I could thank them for that, it made my evening!

Avoid ! Avoid ! Avoid ! First and last time there. Terrible service, rude staff, stale and poor quality food. Ended up with a bad stomach which was same for other members in the group that night, clearly contaminated food.

Sorry ghastly! Most of my table of 10 had food poisoning afterwards! Poppadoms were stale and service incredibly rude wanting us to go! We felt pushed out. Staff too old! A rip off! Over prices

Tried it out firdt time with friends as a buisness group meal. Service was okay. Popadoms were stale the desert (gulab jamun) in the thali was also off. Ended up with stomach cramps and flushing through. Terrible experience overall. Will avoid in future and won't be recommending it restaurant to friends or business meals.

We had no reservation, but as they had only just opened, they were not busy. We love indian food and this was exceptional. Service was good and they had a nice selection of wines, which was a bonus. My only observation would be to tone down the incense, it was a little over-powering. Because the restaurant is a few mins walk from the main area of Covent Garden it is a good find if you cannot get in elsewhere

I’m worried for the people saying this is the best Indian in London. Starter portion was very small and tasted pre-cooked, despite costing £8.95. The price is too high for the food and service received. Would not recommend.

Exceptional restaurant - what a find 🎉 My husband & I came across this hidden gem whilst visiting London. The food was authentic & cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly & provided an excellent service. We honestly rate this Indian restaurant as one of the best we have visited “believe me we have visited many” The Shapur is central for pre-theatre meals, very reasonably priced & definitely worth a visit - thanks to all the staff at the Shapur xx

Wir waren im September da für ein Abendessen an einem Samstagabend und sind begeistert. Einer der besten Inder, bei dem wir je waren. Mein vegetarisches Gericht war sogar noch besser als das Hühnchen meines Mannes. Das Personal war freundlich und aufmerksam. Die Preise wirklich günstig. Würden wir in London wohnen, wären wir öfters dort zum essen.

Upon my visit staff were very polite place was clean n tidy Food taste very Nice I can’t complain manager was also nice gave me a dessert which he recommend why not try shapur authentic good Indian with friendly staff

Stumbled across this restaurant last night whilst in London with friends was absolutely wonderful, couldn’t fault it at all from the device to the excellent food, everything was so tasty, fresh tasting and aromatic would certainly recommend and wish I lived nearer to be able to be a regular

The restaurant has no contact line. The phone is always busy, they don’t look their e-mails or any kind of messages. I forgot my bag there, I’m out of London and I cannot reach them.

Great service, pleasant atmosphere. Curries were average; all a bit standard. £50/head including a couple of beers each. No Ale, just Cobra or Kingfisher.

Just not worth it -- food, staff, service, value, you name it. Riding on its location; mediocrity at the highest price. Precooked chicken, dry -- probably there for days. Staff: rude, judgemental, condescending. Generally, not a place to go unless you are literally dying of starvation or are completely wrecked and unable to get better scran.

We’re visiting from America and stumbled upon this place on our way to the theater. The food is so good! Great service and extremely yummy food. Good portion sizes as well. We had lamb samosas, butter chicken, tikka masala, and garlic naan - all fantastic. The setting is nice and clean and rather fancy considering the reasonable prices. They even ended the meal with a warm towel for us to clean our hands. Highly recommend.

Service was a little slow to begin with, taking our orders but food arrived fairly quickly. Nice restaurant, good food, one waiter was really friendly while others barely smiled. Will visit again.

After visiting the Courtauld Gallery we just walked in for an early dinner; we were more than pleasantly surprised. The excellent service was only exceeded by the superb food. If you like Indian cuisine then this is your place! P.S. We asked for their recommendations and could not have been happier with both the Lamb a la Nilgiri and the Lamb Pasanda. We complemented these dishes with an order of Aloo Gobi. P.S. Treat yourself to the garlic naan!

As a tourist from Bangladesh, I was quite impressed to find South Asian food in the heart of Central London. The food and staff behavior is excellent.

The food here is really good. We went blindly without any recommendations and found the food extremely tasty. Lots of really good spicing, I'd go as far as to say much better than your average tandoori. We'll definitely return, a real find.

The food was outstanding. I wasn't expecting such a small serving but, with the paratha, it was certainly filling. The price was extremely affordable and the drinks weren't priced off the charts. Our server was friendly and very professional and I will definitely be eating there again. BTW, I had the palak tikka masala and the sauce was delicious. It's a great spot for authentic, affordable and delicious Indian food.

As a KCL student, Shapur is easily one of the best food places close to the uni. The food is impeccable, service is excellent and the ambience is admirable too. The staff including Mr. Shuyel are incredible assets for the business. Keep up the good work.

The worst experience in London was at this restaurant. We got in the restaurant around 10:15pm, when the guy at the drinks counter said take out only as it was late, we understood and ordered our take out. Following us, a few non-Indian folks came in and the guy seated them and took the order. When we asked about the same, the guy simply responded back saying I am just taking their order. Clearly from what we saw they weren’t doing any takeout, but dining in. We expected an equal treatment irrespective of nationality. Totally shocked by the experience.

It was close to our hotel (ME London) and we fancied Indian food so we went here. I had the butter chicken with a naan and some rice. It was very tasty. A large cobra beer goes well with the food. Staff very friendly. Layout of the restaurant is average but you go there for the food. Would come here again.

Weird service. Not friendly, a bit dismissive. We didn't feel welcome and had to wait quite long for our orders to be taken. Food was very underwhelming. Dry chicken and not much taste, small portions. Next to India club, which is always full and people in search for food stumble in here. Tourist trap.

Excellent food and service. My wife said her Jalfrezi was excellent and I recommend the King Prawn with Green Mango, absolutely delicious. Sheek kebab starter was excellent. Just lacked a bit of atmosphere.

We got there 30 min before closing (our bad, the play ended later than we though) however, they accept us without problem. Thanks God! Staff was attentive and professional. Tikka masala was excellent and Vindaloo had the perfect proportion between spicy and flavour (I loved it). We'll repeat in our next trip to London.

Really good, authentic Indian restaurant. We’ve been going there for years, and recently returned after a Covid enforced change of commute. Food is always good. Staff are reserved and efficient but really lovely when you get to know them. Throughly recommended.

Tried this tonight as staying nearby. What a hidden gem. Food was fabulous and very tasty. Service was exceptional and very attentive. I would thoroughly recommend. This is one of the top Indian restaurants in London. Do yourself a favour and eat here.

Me and my partner came here to eat this evening and i cannot praise the food or hospitality anymore! The food is light and clean on your pallet and does not leave you feeling bloated and tired like every Indian I have tried before. The aromas before you even taste the dish are out of this worth. This place is worth every penny, every member of staff made us feel welcome and at home! Can't wait to come back.

I came here first a month ago when I started working locally and have now been back four times since then. Great food and service - attentive but unfussy - and at a very reasonable cost, especially for this part of town. Highly recommend.

Very good service and great food!

It was our first experience of visiting Shapur and it certainly won't be our last. We hadn't booked and there were 10 people in our party but Shapur not only made us really welcome but fully accommodated for our mixed dietary requirements. The food was superb and the drinks not overly priced as we've experienced elsewhere. The staff were very helpful, especially when it came to advising us on the various main dishes to choose from. Atmosphere was good albeit it did become slightly loud as the restaurant was busy. Looking forward to our next visit.

Went before show due heavy rain . Ordered Veg platter got meat on it The chilli chicken had lumps on chicken pieces which were uncooked. Complained to owner who waved his hands and got angry and frustrated. He gave the bill with the curry .I refused so he eventually revised it . Waiter was great and understanding.

Scamming is the name of the game here. We were lured in by the "theater menu", were not presented with a drinks menu but ordered a beer and a glass of "house red" . Sitting next to the bar, I saw the waiter pour in the bottoms of an old bottle and then finishing from a different bottle. I thought that ok, whatever, as long as its red. When the bill came, I was billed for "250ml of Merlot" costing 9.95£. I asked the waiter about it, pointed out I ordered the house red, and you couldnt fit 250ml of anything in the normal sized wine glass we got. He told me he will check with the manager, and he came back with the same bill. Ok then, I thought it's not worth a scene, I was expecting 4-6£ for it so "losing" 4-6£ for scamming felt acceptable. But afterwards I checked the bill and noticed that besides the papadams which they said were 80p each and we ordered 4, they had also charged 4* "chutneys" which cost considerably more than the papadams, yet for the papadams only 80p each was mentioned. Ok, this about the papadam chutneys is probably more about nitpicking on my side than scamming, but boy do I feel strongly about businesses that feel scamming is what they need to build their profitability on. The food itself was very average indian food, small portions but OK in itself. Without scamming it would have been a strong 3/5 for me.
