Shapla Tandoori Takeaway in New Forest

The place was empty so I thought that was weird took my food home only live round the corner the mint source was off and the nan was stone cold like they got it out the fridge and put straight in the bag won't be ordering from heir again

Don't make the mistake of thinking thos is the old Shapla. Thought we'd five it a try seeing as the orinal owner retired. Bit concerned when it was deserted whole the Indian takeaway opposite was busy. However, gave it a try anyway. For a start it's 25% more expensive than the old Shapla or the alternative opposite. Very inflexible staff,. Eg unwilling to swap a veg side curry for a mushroom side curry in a biriani, most will. No popadoms as an extra, even though our bill was over £41. The food itself was ok but no more. Chicken a bit dry ans prawns like rubber. Rice ok but small portions for the money. Onion bhajis awful. I priced the same choices oppsosite afterwards, £34 odd. We won't be using again.

Not been here for a while, used to be our first choice in Totton, same menu new people since we were there last time, picked up food, arrived home to eat our lovely curry - only it wasn’t , poppadoms very dry, sauce not really right , balti little bit too hot, madras hotter than normal, but the worst bit - the chicken at shapla used to be the reason we bought from there, tender succulent and fresh tasting, this chicken was hard, dry, not much taste and wasn’t type of chicken I could eat again!! Only nice things were rice was pretty good, and service ok but I have to say wouldn't go here for my take out Indian again. Shame as with previous people owning it everything was spot on.

Really nice curry. We have been coming here for a few years and were worried it wouldn't be as good once the ownership had changed. We actually prefer the food! The bombay potatoe is much nicer and the chicken has a nicer texture. The currys are delicious. Good value for money. We always purchase the set meal for 2. Theres lots of food, probably enough for 3 people.

Well,well,well !!! Where do you start with this bunch of amateurs. I've been eating curry for 35 + years, and I've never eaten a Rogan Josh that is hotter than a vindaloo - the owners answer - the chef must have put in the wrong chilli !!!! I didn't realise there was much chilli in a Rogan - tomatoes and onions and herbs yes. I regularly use kutis express and Jehangir in the Bassett/Aldermore areas of Southampton and they both charge £6.95 for a Rogan NOT £10. Shapla also charge an extra £1.00 for their mushroom rice, which in essence, they deem pilau rice to be with 4 slices of mushroom, Unbelievable !! Keema Nan - forget it - ive complained on numerous occasions that there is no meat in it - 50p more expensive than every where else and still no meat. Just to top things off, their delivery takes on average 1.5 hrs, whilst Jehangir/Kutis take on average 45 mins and dont charge a delivery fee within 2/3 miles, whereas Shapla £1.50. In total a joke of a meal for £20. Competitors as mentioned £14.50 inc delivery. Unless you live in Totton or surrounding areas and are desperate STAY CLEAR OF THIS RABBLE. ****************************************** Since my review the management have come back with several comments that I find amusing!! 1. Mushroom rice is a speciality dish. Don't make me laugh !!! - it's a normal staple rice dish that all Indian restaurants/takeaways offer and serve as standard, also I would expect fresh ingredients to be used as per standard of all food serving outlets. 2. Your delivery charges are within the industry standards? Well I tend to differ. It's upto the establishment if they wish to charge for delivery or not, its not a requirement. 3. It's obvious that Shapla Tandoori do not like my opinion and review which they deem to affect their business (They are going to look into online misuse of Google reviews that affect them 🤣) This is a review and it is exactly that, my opinion of the food and service I recieved. It's upto other people to make their own minds up. That's the beauty of freedom of speech !!!

Takeaway got delivered but was missing the drinks. Rang to chase and was told would try driver and call back, in the meantime we dished up, the food was cold and the popadums were chewy, when they rang back they advised just to ring next time and I would get the drinks for free, how are they free when I’ve already paid for them the 1st time and not got them, the driver literally left my house 3 minutes ago so could of dropped them back off. I won’t be ordering again due to cold food and missing items - very poor

Popadoms where old and dry Lamb was not tender hard as old boots Wouldn’t eat here again. 3/10 and that’s been fair.

The guy I spoke to when I ordered my takeaway didn’t seem very happy or interested in me or my order and when I picked up my order I got impression the guy who served me was the same guy I spoke to on phone when ordering as he also didn’t seem very friendly or happy or interested but instead stressed. Prices were also quite expensive compared to what we used to pay at the original Shapla and when we arrived home the food was not great. Poppadums seemed dry and felt like yesterdays or even older as dry and uncrispy, samosas despite good were expensive for portion size (2 very small for £3.90) and our Bhutanese curry and rice was bland and no where near up to the full flavour and quality standards of original shapla takeaway so I am afraid due to cost and poor food quality and customer service standards we won’t be visiting again

My first time using Shapla tandoori. Ordered lamb biryani, the lamb was so tough it must have been 3 or 4 days old. But the worse part was finding what looked like an already chewed piece of lamb. Suffice to say i will not be using them again. Do not use this take away

First time ordering from Shapla tonight, and I've got to say I was very impressed! Had the Shapla Special curry and it was very good. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the onion bhajis weren't very good. Will definitely order again.

Was So Disappointed The Original Shapla Closed, But Tried The New One Tonight & it Was Lovely, Tasty & Full of Flavour. Will Recommend To Family & Friends. 🌶

I we tried this place for the first time, we had a Shapla special dish and niahri lamb, food was fantastic. The food was tasty and you can taste the different spices, they told me it will be 25 minutes to collect and it was ready on time and I can’t fault the place. This is one to try.

Famtastic food We had a mix grill, Lamb birani And a nihari lamb, all tasted so good and the chapatis were good soft and just right , lamb tender….. will definitely go back

Been going to Shapla for over 24 years, and tonight I revisted the place that sold the best curry I've ever had. But unfortunately this was nowhere near Shapla. Don't think the name shapla should be above the door:(

AMAZING! Fantastic take away meal this evening. Shapla is back and even better than before! Our food was hot and bursting with flavour, I couldn’t fault it in any way. Great food and great value.

We’ve been going to Shapla for years even travelling quite a way to collect it as we used to enjoy it, we then stopped buying the chicken from there as it was tough, so we switched to the lamb….. and tonight that’s completely gone downhill. My lamb bhuna was inedible, the lamb was extremely tough, my teeth hurt just eating one bit, the food didn’t taste good at all. Whereas my husband had the lamb dhansack and he enjoyed it!!! The prices have shot up quite considerably! . Not impressed at all.

Been coming here for over 30 years. It was always mine and my family's go to Indian take away. The last year or so things have drastically changed, maybe they stopped using the old recipes ?. Whatever happened this place is not as good and we don't bother driving out to totton anymore . Plenty of better ones nearer us and they also deliver Such a shame as they were top notch

We have been using Shapla for some time, having been recommended and have enjoyed every meal - up until today. We had expected a price rise, these are difficult times but did not expect a drop in quality. The rice was as if from a packet and there was no flavour in any of the dishes. The sauce for Chicken Tikka was just yoghurt and very runny. How sad. We will not be ordering again.

Just had a meal from Shapla. Chicken Massala. Could not eat it, it tasted like it had been microwaved from frozen. The chicken was not fresh at all? Very stringy meat. This would suggest frozen or stewed. Not happy as not had a great meal from them for a few orders so will not be ordering again from them. Such a shame as wanted to promote local restaurants even if they don't deliver. You have let me down not just once but a few times now. Such a shame.

Onion bhaji were crispy and light.....not over cooked or stodgy. Chilli Tikka Chicken Masala was quite chilli hot, but also nicely spiced. Aloo Sag was good. My naan was a little soggy and undercooked, but overall very enjoyable. Good portions and reasonably priced. Think I prefer this to the other Indian Takeaways in Totton.

This is the best Indian takeaway in Totton, great food, never had any issues here at all.

Just picked up a chicken tikka masala and pila rice. Spot on. And a very friendly elderly man serving me with impeccable manners made the experience very nice indeed.

we were staying nearby for the weekend and ordered by phone - helpful chap and on arrival at agreed time food ready - our 4 meals all spot on and enjoyed and pricing seemed very good value - will go again if in this area - thankyou to the Shapla team.

Great Indian takeaway ….: new place for us but got to say it’s now our new local Indian. Fresh tasty and my lamb balti had some of the juiciest tender meat I’ve ever had in a curry!! Love the quaint interior too which takes you back in time but is nicely done and certainly not worn out or tired!! Friendly staff too , absolutely no complaints from us!!

Brilliant food, we looked up the menu on their website while driving down to our air BnB, called them and ordered for collection in 50 minutes time. Just what 4 hungry tourists needed and very tasty.

Best Indian Restaurant in Totton

Where is the best place to get an Indian ?? Shapla . I do not live in totton and never have holbury and Hythe are closer . But for over 20 years this place delivers ..on taste , quality , and portion size .. NOT > taste ok and a bag of chopped onions chucked in with no meat <NOT This place has not changed for the time I’ve eaten there . You WILL GET A NICE INDIAN FROM HERE .. What led me to write this review was for x2 weekends we went to friends house had a takeaway Indian on both occasions from places closer to where we were .. I wish I just paid for a taxi to totton and told them it’s on me .. 6 stars for shapla

As a family been using this place for 20+ years used to be by far one of the best in Southampton. Recently it’s average at best. Not sure if it’s changed hands or been passed down a generation but last 3 times exactly the same… just bang average. There’s definitely better options locally now.

Great food, good value, good service.

The curry sauce with my Vindaloo - was absolutely wonderful - heat by spice and not by just chucking in Chilli powder - well done Chef.!! The rest of our meal was great - nice Bhajis. Very polite front of house and meal was ready after a 22 mile drive - well worth it. Will definately return to this little gem of a place in Totton. DO not be put off by the time warp inside - just excellent quality and value. Thank you.

Love the curries at this place - they give me free poppadoms too, even though I never order them! I come from Marchwood because the local ones aren't as nice.

Excellent food, worth the wait.

I’ve been using the Shapla for twenty-five years and not once have I felt short changed. The curries are superb. The order is always ready on time. I am going to miss this when I move away. Might just pop back every couple of months to get a few dishes for the freezer.

Generous portions, delicious flavours. By far the best Indian in totton. They don't offer delivery but they are worth the trip to collect. Lovely staff and just bloody yum!

As usual I had the Chicken Tikka Jalfrey and my wife had a Bhunna. Plenty of chicken in both and the sauces were delicious.

Old school take away at its best. Doesn't offer delivery and is like stepping into a time warp when you enter but don't let that deceive you! The food is top class and most definately the best Indian take away I've had in Totton ever.

Well there is really not much to say about this place. It is a restraint where you can find the most delicious food to eat. There Chicken Korma is delightful and me and my sister both enjoy it very much. It is quite a small shop but it deserves more attention then it gets.❤️🏪

Best Indian Take Away in Totton. I have tried them all and always come back to Shapla. Recently ordered for 8 adults, so ordered many different dishes and all of them were very tasty. Never had a bad experience here

Superb takeaway. We've been using it since moving to the area 18 years ago. Also tried the other two in the near vicinity just to check if Shapla was still the best. Fantastic range of dishes, and every one is packed full of flavour.

We always used the Shapla but having had a take away recently it has gone down hill big time. The Chicken Tikka Jalfrezy was nothing like it used to be and far to much tomato in it.

Mi esposa me presentó a Shapla cuando nos cumplir, ella y su familia han sido comprar de ellos durante años, hemos estado juntos durante 10 años y hemos estado yendo a Shapla por lo menos una vez al mes o dos.Una gran relación calidad-precio y buena comida, recomendaría a todo el mundo en la zona.

Esto ha sido siempre nuestra tienda de comida hindú favorito, tener en un promedio cada mes durante los últimos 3 años, pero me temo que últimas noches fue muy decepcionante. Teníamos un kebab ambivalente entrante seguido de platos principales y toda la carne era muy fuertemente salados. Soy un amante de sal e incluso me pareció insoportables. Por desgracia esto ya que me desanima el Shapla y para cualquier novatos sería una confirmación apagar, tales como pena, ya que nunca he tenido una mala comida desde aquí antes.

Not So Wow! Initially, one of the best takeaway Indian meals I've had in years. Friendly service, good-sized portions and of course most importantly - impressive food. I am considered to be a fussy eater (to say the very least), yet was unable to find anything to whinge (until recently) about - result! The clever blending of flavours and textures only adds to my "man cannot not live by takeaway alone " dilemma. Bad news: I have since been very disappointed with our last three visits (we won't be returning). Twice we ordered a medium Jalfrezi - a meal we know well - and both times things were ruined by the hottest green chillies we have ever tasted (or should that be 'burned by'), being included. We occasionally have the normal hotter Jalfrezis but these were off the scale! My wife could not finish her meal both times! I phoned to politely mention this, but the guy on the phone got a bit stroppy - I think he thought I was a hoax caller or something. A few weeks later we gave it one more try - a chicken tikka massala. This time it was the salt content that was off the scale - never had anything that salty in our lives. I don't think we have done anything to annoy this takeaway in particular, but we do have better things to spend our cash on.
