Shapla Tandoori in Solihull

I placed an order from Shapla on Saturday the 11th at 9:00pm. I order from shapla regularly with my family so felt confident ordering from somewhere I know. At 10:30 my order still hadn’t arrived so I called the restaurant. The person who answered my call was very rude and started shouting at me. The staff at Shapla told me they tried to deliver my order and the person who answered the door said they didn’t order the food. The driver went to the wrong house and I was accused of given them the wrong address. They then started shouting at me more saying they will not deliver my food and that I gave them the wrong address. To which I did not as I know the address of where I am. They then proceeded to tell me to cancel my order as they will not be re delivering it again. This phone call left me in tears and without food at 11:00 at night. I had to drive to another restaurant to receive food. I feel so upset and appalled by the way this was handled and left the phone call in floods of tears.

Avoid Avoid Avoid at all costs worst Indian restaurant we have ever been to !!!!!!!! I asked to take away food that we never ate , waiter came back slapped on the table , I complained about service ! Shocked at the response I got Thought service and food had changed after it was closed down for hygiene Run down restaurant and food was poor compared to other Indian restaurants in the town Go there and find out ! 1/10

Visited Shapla on a Saturday evening and we all had different curries. Each curry was terrible, they had no taste and was basically like water with onions in. Notified the owner and he basically said there wasn't nothing wrong. We have been to most of the curry houses around Solihull and Birmingham and this is definitely the worst one we have been to!! Don't waste your money!

Lovely atmosphere, waiters nicely attentive, Cobra beer well kept. Didn’t have a stater just poppadoms and dip, very crispy and dry. Decided on butter chicken with boiled rice, plates warm and freshly wiped, best curry I have had in a long while, very well spiced,rice was perfect. Warm wipes to finish a lovely chocolate with a very reasonable bill, will definitely be going again.

Everything about this restaurant is fantastic. We always want to try other places but we can’t risk it not being as good. The service is brilliant, ambience lovely but the thing that really does it for me is the quality of the ingredients. The chicken, lamb etc is great. Everything you order is fresh. Just love it here.

We've been coming here for years and now feel like part of the furniture! Never had a bad meal, service friendly and prompt, varied menu and overall good value. It's been a tough couple of years for places like this so it's good to see them back on track and doing well. Can get quite busy at times so book a table to be sure.

Three of us had dinner here, and we were happy. Just over £60 for three mains, two sides, two large bottles of water, and a pint pf beer. Two lamb dishes, and one veg Biriyani, plus sides of rice and garlic nan. No complaints as the meat was tasty, and it ticked all the boxes. Service was fast and polite, we were made to feel welcome, dining area was comfy.

I booked via the website and got a very quick reply and acceptance. The table was ready for the appointed time. Service was excellent, staff were friendly and knowledgeable and recommended the dish combination for my partner. The food arrived in a timely manner, freshly cooked, and was as expected and described. We were not pestered while we ate nor were we hurried. We will certainly return.

A great meal on a Sunday evening. All 4 of us were very pleased with the standard of the food and the service. I ate a balti dish and my company ate dopiasa with either chicken or prawns. Garlic naans were fabulous

No idea what eating in is like but from my takeaway experience will give it a miss. Took nearly two hours for a basic order of two Curry's, two starters and a Naan to arrive and once they did, it was all cold so needed reheating. I ordered via Ubereats and had to call twice and was told 'Sorry we are too busy'. Simple solution, you stop taking orders via phone and focus on your app orders or close your app orders off for a bit. The response I got for suggesting this was mute. Tandoori chicken starter was small and dry, would expect better for the price. Chicken pakora was also dry. Salad provided was well lettuce and the mint yoghurt sauce was completely tasteless, no mint, no spice, nothing. Dopiaza was fairly bland, not particularly medium hot but chicken quality was at least OK but there wasn't much of it. Chicken balti was better once recooked and had some flavour at least but the whole experience left a sour taste.

Absolutely lovely food, service and ambiance... 1st night out in 7 months and couldn’t pick a better place! Service spot on... food served beautifully and delicious.... hot and tasty..... drinks and ambiance perfect! Thank you Joe & Fred you made our night

We tried this Indian restaurant as our normal one was closed and the food was amazing they even did a special dish for my daughter and she thanked them on the phone afterwards. We will always use these guys now thanks again for amazing food and service too highly recommend

A few weeks ago, a friend and I decided to have dinner at the Shapla – we hadn’t been there for several years. Despite that, we were remembered by the staff. The food was excellent as was the service. We have returned every week since, and have always been treated with courtesy, and served with excellent food. I would like to thank the three staff members who always make our evening at this curry house thoroughly enjoyable – Joe, Freddie and Omar. I Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves a good curry. See you soon.

Not overly impressed. Some food was not as ordered, had to wait for it to be corrected. Then the rice was overlooked and we had to wait again. The food was at best average when it finally got put right. Didn't even offer us a free coffee or some discount. No wonder the place was empty.

Very friendly atmosphere small place but cosy I had murugh chilo bahari very tasty garlic man was fantastic very reasonable price everything food and drinks too . Very highly recommended to everyone. I will visit again soon

Lovely welcome and extremely friendly staff. Small restaurant but cosy. Ordered the chicken tikka starter. It arrived and the chicken was very tender but there was absolutely no taste to the chicken and the mint sauce. There was only lettuce and a slice of lemon, no cucumber or tomato. Both our main dishes were yet again displayed beautifully. The main courses were very tasty indeed with lots of meat beautifully cooked. My husband ordered the lager which was tasteless, tasted watered down. Great prices and fabulous staff but just need to work on the starter.

This restaurant is certainly not up market, but for some really good tasty food that is cheap and filling you really can't go wrong here. We've been a few times and have always left full, and it hasn't broke the bank for it either.

We have lived in Shirley area for years and used thus restaurant pre marriage some 29 years ago and called in by chance as were heading somewhere else but parked outside.Ordered popodums with pickles which were fresh and tasty, bottle of shirts which was good and well pricedMains of a chicken chilli garlic tawa and chicken rezalla with pilau rice and chilli coriander naan and both very tastyAll in £32 with good service and will use again.Surroundings simple but clean and shame wasn't that busy

We've been coming here for years we have a takeaway every Saturday night and we've never had a bad meal. The staff are really friendly too!

Just had a take away from here and it was horrendous. Ordered a chicken tikka masala which had exploded in the bag. Accidents happen but from there it got worse. Opened my curry to what looked like korma, again I think another mistake but I’ll try it. One mouthful and I’ve binned it. No idea what it was but tasted of nothing, smelt gone off and was just pure slop. Husband had a lamb madras which was full of vegetables and no lamb. Said it’s the worst madras he’s ever tasted. Never again!

We a group of business associates been just been to a pub just by the shapla rest went there for a meal . Food was fantastic every way . I think in Shirley it is the best restaurant.

I visited the Shapla Tandoori just before Christmas with a party of 4, there was only one other party in the restaurant (large table of about 15). We waited for ages before the waiter finally came over to our table and then an extra 40-50 minutes before and food came out for us, the staff seemed more interested in service drink than taking food orders - guess this is where the profit is for them??

I visited last night with a friend, the service was very good, but the prawns were cremated, rubbery with no taste. Will not be returning.

My Wife and I visited Solihull from Newcastle and googled decent nearby restaurants for evening meal.

We have just enjoyed yet another beautiful curry from shapla. Always presented beautifully. Meat tender. I had the dhansak for a change which was beutiful and i will definately be having again . Rice perfect. Nan bread delicious.

I've been here in the past and it was that good, i'm always suggesting we go eat here when we decide to go out for food in the area.

We use this restaurant often and the food is as good or better than most other Indian restaurants in Shirley. Staff are friendly and the price of the food is very reasonable.

eat here quite often, the boys who work there are lovely fella's and are always up for a chat. Never had any issues with the food, served quickly and hot. always tastes great

We have been eating here regularly for many years. Always a terrific curry that's bursting with flavour. Efficient and friendly service. Pleasant atmosphere. Would never go anywhere else.

Had a really nice meal here the young man that served us was so funny. Found this place right at the last minute and very pleased I did. The waiter did try to put a bit of cheese on my pudding lol joking of course but had a lovely last night her and will return when I am next there

Some how i got convinced to eat here. When walking up to the front of the restaurant it looks pretty dodgy and comparing it to the rest of the road opposite, i t doesn't look in high standards.

I visited Shapla on Sunday 18th March the food I received was absolutely perfect. I dont like hot curry but I do like a curry with a lot of flavour, my starters and main meal were one of the best I have ever had anywhere in the UK and I cant wait to go back. Very highly recommended.

We still eat here a couple of times a month. The service is great and the food is nice too. It's an excellent local curry house.

We use this restaurant regularly both for a takeaway and to eat in. Food and service has always been good. We ordered our usual last night as a takeaway, my meal was completely different to usual so much so that I assumed they had make a mistake with the order. When I took the meal back this evening to complain I was greeted with “ well that’s what it is”. No apology, no explanation as to why it was so different to usual and inedible, just “ that’s what it is”. Ah well, there are plenty of other Indian restaurants to eat at in Shirley!

Small but busy not only in restaurant but also takeaway service. Good location with parking outside but not just for restaurant. We were a party of 12. Food wait was a bit long but it all arrived together. Vegetarian dishes cooked well but need more spice. All meat dishes were delicious and well cooked. Service slow to start but lovely staff. Good menu choice that caters for all.

There is lots of competition, with many Indian restaurants in the area - but I was pleasantly surprised with Shapla ! .Nice food and pleasant service, all for a very reasonable price.

Do not know what's happened to Shapla. The last couple of times we have orderd the food has been Luke warm. My madras was nice but the chicken balti was so bland. Our chips were not cooked properly and the Prawn Puri was extreanly greasey. My lamb tikka was very bad. We used to order from Shapla regularly and eat in a lot. We found the older gentleman in store to be extreanly rude and uninterested. His attitude is a reflection of the food I'm afraid. Shall not be ordering or eating from here again.

food came and was cold and late

Really disappointing...the free starters were lovely and the bottle of beer went down a treat! But the chicken dhansak and chicken tikka masala could have been the same thing! Both were so bland with absolutely no flavour at all. It was almost like they'd been watered down. Won't be ordering again.

Everything I visit this restaurant I am welcomed by all staff, who are all equally friendly and helpful. The food is always tasty and I'd recommend their menu to vegetarians as much ad I'd recommend it to meat-eaters.

We order regularly from here on justeat. I decided to go in on my own. Never have I been spoken to/look at in the manor the older gentleman with the glasses did. He was so rude, I shall never be ordering from here again. There wasn't a sole in the restaurant and I can see why. I even tried to explain I was a regular but he was not interested. They just lost a regular customer. I'd recommend anyone of the other 5 curry houses in Shirley.

Shapla, Excellent takeaway, although i had a voucher code for 25% off from 'just eat' for card payments, the website refused the code saying it had expired: the expiry date was for the 11th june and we tried to use on 10th june: not very impressed with this considering i had received 2 emails from 'just eat' (the offer, then a reminder)

Brilliant time on delevery and excellent food would recommend to anyone.....

Starters ok, but main was disappointing as the chicken was small and a very small portion. The naan wasn't what I was used to, just honey on it??? Not sure I'll order again

Food was fine but came 45mins earlier than we asked for which is no good when you want to eat your meal when the kids are in bed!

Delivery time was fantastic but quality of food was awful. Got brown rice instead of pilau rice, Naan bread was hardly cooked and the curry was terrible almost as if it was watered down! Definitely would not recommend this takeaway and wouldn't order from there again unfortunately.

Myself and my partner have been regulars here for a while and the food has always been great. But the last few times we have been there there has been no staff to serve us and we have had to constantly ask to be served our starters or main meal. We were so disappointed with the service that we will not be going back there again.

When the chain restaurant we were going to go to couldn't seat us for 20 minutes to half an hour, we decided we'd cross back over the road and try Shapla. So glad we did. Decor is plain but it's comfortable and clean. Service was excellent and the food was really good. Poppadoms came with a generous pickle tray, our starter was the platter; a lovely selection of tasty bites; when the mains arrived the naan was one of the best I've had for years, crisp on one side, bubbly and light on the other, and the bhuna I ordered was full of tender chunks of meat. My husband's biryani was tasty and the veg in it was flavoursome. Excellent value at under £30 including drinks, and that was without taking advantage of the set meal offer. We'll definitely be back.

The meal was delivered 1 hour late. I rang to chase the order and was told they were very busy. When delivered they did also give us some complimentary extras.

Best takeaway curry we've had for a long while

Food was 40 mins late & barely luke warm when it arrived. When I called the restaurant to chase, they confirmed 4 orders had gone out and they couldn't say where it was or what time it would arrive. Had to microwave it all.

Balti was lacking substance very little chicken in it and wasnt full of flavor, peshwari naan was too sweet i expect it to be sweet but this was over powering the rest of the meal. rice was nice though and i appreciated getting the extra poppadom but overall i am very disappointed i dont eat take outs much and feel i wasted this one off on a sub par curry in what is suppose to be the balti capital of the uk

Some of the food was not as hot as it could be but I think it's because I've not ordered from them before and maybe the driver was a bit held up by the incredibly icy roads. No harm done. Otherwise the food etc., was excellent

Visitied for a late night curry and it was awful. Worse chicken tikka masalla i have ever had. Considering they were open late their customer service was awful. Having found two hairs in the poppadoms they offered no apology. Would rather have gone to shirley kebab house to receive beyter food and service.

We have ordered a couple of take aways from the restaurant and the service and staff have always been excellent. The food however s average.

Whether you're eating in the restaurant or ordering a takeaway the food and service never fails to impress! Food always arrives hot and well presented, staff are more than happy to grant any request and have a chat with you. Would have to say along the high street I would always pick the shapla over any other and it's definitely worth a visit!

With me being from Shirley originally and a regular at the Shapla back in the day, I was really looking forward to my meal on my recent visit. An over enthusiastic waiter (who I saw outside smoking) took our order. Basic food was ordered and the food came within a reasonable time. As the kitchens are upstairs, they have to reheat the food on a portable burner to make sure it's piping hot. Mine was not. Oily, tasteless food. Chicken tikka was bland. I won't be going back. Looks like its changed owners.

Beautiful food apart from the plain naan. It was obviously out of a packet not authentic. Shame.

Hardly any chicken in my curry, the sauce seemed watered down and tasteless. Rice was bland also. Disappointed.

Have eaten at shapla in the past always been good but the food I had delivered wasn't the the best , wrong naan breads and tasted like they was a week old the rest was very average , was disappointed

Food arrived early so that was excellent and starters were excellent. The pathia is the worst I have ver had. Sauce was runny hardly any meat and water was present in dish. Pathia is supposed to be a thick sauce
