Best chicken tikka curry for a long time had a delivery was quick and hot really lovely 10 out of 10

Had a takeaway , the food was reality nice . Had chicken puri starter and the main meal was tasty and of good portion . Would definitely use the restaurant again.

We visited here with family last weekend and was not disappointed. The food was fresh and delicious, the service was exceptional. We will definitely be dining in again.

I have been coming to this restaurant for years. I have consistently had a really lovely meal without exception. The staff are fabulous. It’s very reasonable and caters for all needs eg vegan. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Shapla Royal for me is the best Indian restaurant certainly in Birmingham, probably even the West Midlands. The food is always top class and the service is always excellent. Staff are are very attentive and always make you feel very welcome. I’d recommend anyone to try Shapla’s, you won’t be disappointed!!

We go here all the time with family and friends and it's our favourite restaurant. Staff are always super friendly and food and service always fabulous. Had a lovely meal as usual last night and just wanted to give a thumbs up to them and support in these difficult times. Did an amazing job ensuring everyone was happy and out by 10.00pm. Had a takeaway during lockdown from the Royal Shapla on 24th April. As ever, the food was fantastic, it was restaurant standard and our whole family thoroughly enjoyed it. The guys are very friendly, provide an excellent service, the food was delivered on time and was piping hot. Also, very good value for money. Thoroughly recommended.

Went for a quick meal!!!???? Placed the drinks order, waited then drinks came. Ordered food waited ordered more drinks waited. Still no food, enquired where the food was greeted by a real can’t be asked waiter. The place was not even busy. We left want go back again, there is far much better other places.

Frequented this restaurant last week quickly seated and order taken all the service was very good , BUT because good indian chefs are a premium these days got served the same old flavourless food , they seem to think that adding spice will make it ok , we now have stopped going to the run of the mill indian restaurants and just go to very good established places , there more expensive but at least were not wasting time and money and coming away disappointed

Myself and friend went for a meal here. Can't recommend it highly enough. The food was fantastic. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Decor is smart and clean. One of the best curries ever had. Friend had fish bhuna and I had Jhinga Nooreli (spicy prawns)and a peshwari nan. Definitely will return.

We have eaten here regularly for a few years because it is consistently good. The food is excellent and reasonably priced, the staff are very friendly and attentive without being pushy. Drinks can be bought from the bar or you can bring your own. There is limited parking available outside and more in a nearby side street. There is a good range of traditional dishes as well as modern Asian cuisine. They also do very reasonable take-away.

The food is amazing. They listen to exactly what you want and cater for you. The staff are so lovely. Would highly recommend it. The prices are good and you can take your own alcohol. Well done guys, keep it up x

This was our first visit last month and thoroughly enjoyed the food , service was excellent and the environment also really pleasant so weekend decided on a take out from there and it was fab you will not be disappointed .

Quite simply, the food is great and cannot be faulted. Big fan of the jalfrezi and the pakora. Staff are fantastic, whole place is clean and generally can not be faulted. Gets busy at peak times but you won't notice disruption to your meal or service. Starter to main to sides always 5*

Wednesday evening boat with friends. Loved the fact we could bring our own drinks including soft drinks. Service was first class and the food was also first class and reasonably priced I recommend the mixed grill

I live not far from this restaurant but never visited it, one evening me and my husband decided to visit the restaurant. I called up and booked a table for 7.30pm , I was greeted by a gentlemen who showed us to our table. The restaurant does have a spirit licence but also allows you to bring your own drinks in which is a bonus. The vege food was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband had a meat dish which he polished off. The staff was pleasant and very attentive, it was family friendly and the ambiance was really nice inside.

A very disappointing meal from here. Reheated claggy rice, rubbery chicken and a horrible sauce, very salty and artificially thickened - not eaten. Nice nan and popadoms and staff. Perhaps change of chef? Shame - doubt if we would return.

Visitamos Shapla Rani con mi esposo e hijo. Mi esposo y yo pasamos unos tome siempre que siempre ha sido de buena calidad. Asistimos hace dos semanas en una noche de sábado. Mi hijo no es demasiado entusiasta en comida india. Pedimos un plato para mi hijo tikka y unos poppodoms. Hicieron una ensalada sencilla así. Yo tenía un entrante y plato principal vegetariano y mi esposo tenía platos de carne. Toda la comida era deliciosa. Mi hijo comentó en un excelente servicio al cliente, que estoy de acuerdo. Todo el personal es muy amable y mi hijo sentir muy bienvenido. Sin duda visitar pronto.

Hands down, this is the place to go. Bes Indian food any of us have ever had. The chicken bhuna was fabulous and my husband's lamb Bali was superb.

We have been visiting this restaurant for over 10 years. There is a great choice on the menu and everything has always tasted delicious. If you are not sure what to choose the staff are very helpful. It has been about 3 years since we last visited. Long diet! The decor has been upgraded to a great standard and the welcome was warm and friendly. Service was extremely friendly without being over eager. Food was excellent as was the Indian draft beer. So good already planning to be back next Friday. Also bumped in to old friends who had nothing but good things to say about Shaplas.

Went for the first time Saturday after reading good reviews.Very impressed with service and food received. Only negative was the wait for the food, but atmosphere and lovely food soon made up for it. It shown how popular the restaurant was for diners and takeaways, which was great to see. Will definitely be back again

We ate here as a family group of four adults and two young children early evening. A booster seat was available and the children made to feel welcome. Food was tasty - we had CTM, dhansak and shaslik with various sides, kingfisher on tap to drink all very good. Would definitely return when next in area.

Visited here with my wife and elderly father. Excellent service from staff who couldn't do enough for us. Very friendly. My wife had tandoori salmon for main course, my father had chicken tikka masala and I have cod bhuna. All meals were excellent, with the cod perhaps being the best curry I have ever had!

We've been coming here for the past few years and it is always been consistent, high quality and flavoursome. It's our favourite place to come to as the food and service is always just perfect. The whole team work hard yet still always have time to be courteous and friendly. We really enjoy everything about this place and we will continue come here for the foreseeable future.

This is the perfect place if you are new to Indian/Bangladeshi cuisine. The waiters were extremely helpful, recommending dishes according to my friend's pallets and even created a special dish for the children! Everyone was extremely accommodating at all times, which is exactly what you need when you have young children. They gladly answered any questions we had and were even interested in my friend's home country. Most importantly, the food was excellent! I will definitely be going again!

Having read the previous positive reviews for this restaurant we decided to give it a try ourselves as we were staying nearby.We arrived at around 7.30 on a Friday evening and the place already had a fair few tables occupied, always a good sign.We were seated promptly and shortly after our drinks order was taken.My ice cold bottle of Bangla beer and my wife's brandy and lemonade arrived together with our crisp fresh poppadoms and pickle tray.We always like to mix our starters so ordered Chicken Chat, Mushroom Puri and Onion Bhajis.Again, they arrived in good time and each dishes was well presented and a very generous portion. Perfectly flavoured with salad garnish on each plate.I'm afraid we are not very adventurous when it comes to our main courses so we opted for Chicken Korma, Chicken Tikka Massala and a Mushroom rice and plain Naan bread to share.The quality of these dishes were excellent. Again generous portion sizes and each sauce was thick and creamy and certainly not watery as we have experienced in other places before.All in all this was exactly what we needed after a long day and we will certainly be returning in the future.The staff were very attentive, polite and pleasant. Our total bill came to around £45 which did include 3 large bottles of the excellent Bangla beer. We felt this was excellent value and I would certainly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area.All in all a very pleasant evening.

A family visit to this resturant.The service was excellent, very welcoming and friendly staff. Staff regularly came over to check if we were enjoying our food and if they could get us anything else. The actual decor, atmosphere and the lighting was all beautiful. It was clean and immaculate. Very family friendly and child friendly.The food was delicious, tasty and was served hot. All food was of a high standard and quality. The coffee at the end was lovely!! Served with some chocolate! Cannot fault this restaurant at all. Would definitely 100% recommend this resturant.

I may appear biased as this is the closest “Indian” restaurant to where we live but l haveover fifty years experience of eating asian food so consider my comments relevant.The brothers who run this restaurant have struggled to upgrade their establishment with great success and the decor and ambience is 1st class and well matched by the attentive service they give.My wife,family and friends all use this establishment regularly. The food is freshly prepared and always delicious but as it is such a great place and welcomes lots of other returning customers it does get very busy over the week-end and a wait is sometimes inevitable but in the week ( when we tend to go ) the service is prompt and friendly. The restaurant has a good and very reasonable drinks list.I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Wonderful menu choice, delicious food and friendly staff. A group of 7 friends with no moans and groans...until the bill arrived. As we each pay our own way and do tips at the end there seemed to be a £3.50 discrepancy. Yes I know it may seem a small insignificant amount however as we all work in education (and maths is pretty good) we rechecked the bill to find a £3.50 charge stated against three letters. When questioned we were told it was a corkage charge...no corks had to be removed! Deeper questioning and we were then told it was a 50p charge per person to use their glass to drink out of. How ridiculous! We were informed that it was on the menu, in minuscule print, on the back of the menu, bottom line! Who on earth would even begin to seek this out when all we are drawn to is the wonderful selection of dishes inside a menu?! It is such a shame this happened causing us to feel disgruntled and I would highly recommend you checking your bill as it can be easily overlooked.Tip for management: please remove this ridiculous charge and you will have more people returning and recommending you to others. Almost £100 bill, tips and happy returning customers surely is far better than trying to charge customers for the use of a glass! Moan over.

Following our last visit week, we returned and tried different starters, mains and desserts. Our starters were Onion Bhajee (superb - freshly cooked to perfection instead of the routine stale efforts in other restaurants) and Chicken Chatt (again, superb and nicely presented). Our mains were Chicken Murgi (apparently an Indian wedding feast dish - wonderful), Spicy Salmon (a first for me - and will be re-ordering) and Chicken Tikka Biryani (my wife's favourite - excellent). We decided on something sweet for dessert, and all had Banana Fritters in crispy batter with a syrup dressing - the best we have ever had. Another successful and enjoyable dinner - first class and at very reasonable cost.

Me and my boyfriend came across this place on the off chance. By far it's the best curry house we have been to in a while. The food was delicious and piping hot. The staff were so friendly and perlite.You can also take your own alcohol. I will definitely be going there again.

My wife and I were at a loose end driving home at 8.30 on Sunday 20th. December 2015 - too late to cook a dinner at home, and few places along our route available to provide us with a dinner. We chanced to see the Shapla Rani en route and decided to see if they could serve us, given the late hour.We were warmly welcomed by our young waiter, Shah and shown to our table in the dining room, which has apparently been recently refurbished and looks very chic, and is bathed in just the right sort of Indian background music, at just the right volume. The restaurant is, apparently family run, and it shows. We were delighted to find that our random choice resulted in one of the nicest meals we've been served during the whole year. My wife had Chicken Biryani, and I mentioned to the waiter, Dilli that I have eaten Indian cuisine for the last 45 years, and invited him to surprise me. He asked about my tastes and preferences, and I left it to him to provide me with a nice surprise.A short time later, our waiter returned with our superb meals. The dish prepared for me was the Balti Garlic Chilli Chicken - a dish that the waiter confessed was his own favourite. I rarely eat a whole meal, but I have to confess that my plate was polished clean with my (also excellent) stuffed paratha. Absolutely perfect. Whilst in the afterglow of our dinner, I phoned my brother, and we have made a booking for a pre-Christmas family dinner for 7 in three days time. Affordability: If you can't afford to eat here, God bless you. Our super meal, including a whole bottle of Blossom Hill white wine and two draught servings of Kingfisher premium Indian lager, presented in a very nice environment, and served by a couple of very enthusiastic members of staff . . . less than £30.Try the Shapla Rani - you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended.

We have eaten here previously and enjoyed our meals, but decided to have a takeaway meal for a change.Although the restaurant was not full and there were just a couple of other people waiting, we were told it would take 30 minutes. We thought it would be worth the wait, but it wasn't. After 45 minutes we were given our meal. We ordered a lamb and a chicken main course, rice, chips, naan bread and poppadoms. Every thing was Luke warm. The meat dishes filled about 2/3 of the containers and the chips were not much bigger than a large portion of fries from macdonalds . They were not actually even chips, more like fries. There were about 6 small pieces of meat in each container and the lamb was as tough as old boots. They offer a delivery service and advertise 10% discount for collecting your meal. I'm baffled how they calculate the discount as you don't get given a till receipt.To add insult to injury if regulars come in to order they jump the queue!

Have been going to shapla rani for the past couple of years. The staff here are very friendly and the food tastes delicious, never complained. We normally come monthly as a work outing so there is around 10-15 of us and the service was still excellent, food is always on time and the waiter named Shah is very polite and straight away pours a pint soon as I walk through the door excellent restaurant, excellent service.

Went there with friends on a off chance, was pleasantly surprised. Waiters greeted us with a warm welcome. The menu had a huge choice of dishes to try. Starters were really tasty and the main coarse was brilliant! Well worth the money. Highly recommended.

A lovely welcome by the staff and a ice cold pint from the bar kicked off a cracking meal in a friendly environment. Fresh poppadoms served with Bombay aloo to start was just the way I like it. Shah recommended a couple of dishes from the takeaway menu I had never tried for the mains. Chicken tikka maska and murgi masala cooked spicey. Perfect can't wait till our next visit.

Amazing curry, which we enjoyed very much. Really interesting menu with not just the usual options, which is refreshing in itself. We had a king prawn special, a lovely lamb dish with peppers and spices and a Malayan prawn curry for the youngest curry lover in the family. All were devoured. The service was lovely, attentive and fast, despite clearly being swept off their feet with take away orders and sit-in customers on a busy Friday night. Sadly we are not local to Birmingham, and rarely in this part of the country, but if we ever get back it will be our priority to eat there again!

We're still coming to Shapla Rani even though we now have to travel much further since my partner moved from the area last year. I think that in itself demonstrates what a great little place this is, if we're willing to travel so far for a curry.We brought the kids here last weekend & once again, had a brilliant meal with good service as always. We've tried Indian restaurants nearer to home, but none compare to Shapla Rani. Always so polite & welcoming, it's a pleasure coming here, you feel that they truly value your custom.Keep up the good work guys.

We went in very late around 11pm for 12 of us, the staff were very nice and sorted out a table for us in no time. My prawn dhansak was too spicy but it was replaced with a fresh naan by the accommodating staff. Everyone at my table were satisfied with the service and the food. Definitely a place where i will return soon.

I must admit that I am not easily influenced by reviews, especially in light of some average experiences recently. However we did visit last night the Shapla last night based purely on what I had read and I am pleased that we weren't disappointed. We enjoyed everything about the whole night, the food could possibly be classed as "old style" but this was exactly to our liking. The background music & atmosphere was respectful without being too quiet, however it was the warmth & helpfulness of the guys there that in my opinion stands out the most. I have yet to give a five star review as with the vast majority of places there is always room for improvement and to be honest the service was a little slow but contrary to other reviews although a fraction dark inside I didn't find it drab either. For me the Shapla is currently as close as it gets to excellent and is now my new favourite place.

Having lived within a few hundred yards of this restaurant for over two years I decided it was time to try it out. Now I think I have wasted two years!! With such a huge choice of Indian restaurants in Birmingham you have to be special to stand out. This small unobtrusive restaurant delivers one of the tastiest curries I have ever had. The staff are very helpful and although there was a wait for our good it was only because they were so busy. The manager came to the table to apologise for our wait but we were not in any hurry. When the food came it was stunning. The flavours were amazing with just the right amount of heat. From the starters to the mains the food was so good we didn't want it to end. If you are in the Quinton area this restaurant is a must. Fantastic !!

My Wife and I visited this restaurant on the way back from a night out on Broad Street. I looked at other restaurants but my gut feeling said try it..Im glad we did. The food is second too none. I like my indian food and these people know how to prepare, cook and serve. The staff are very polite and make you feel welcome.

7 of us, on this occasion, went to this delightful restaurant, and had a range of dishes, some English, from the menu. Without exception, everyone enjoyed an excellent meal, served to us by a friendly, helpful and attentive staff. We have been visiting this restaurant now, for about 8 years, and have NEVER been disappointed in the quality or quantity of the food. We shall return again, very soon!
