Shapla in Suffolk Coastal

Lovely meal tonight at Shapla. Terrific Madras curry with lots of king prawns and lovely stag pander done in a way we've never had it done before - strands of cheese rather than cubes - but delicious. Fast friendly service.

This was by far the best indian meal Ive had for many years, we left our main meals upto the manager and I was given a Lamb Chefs Special it was superb. Thank you to all the staff, its been a while since weve been to Shapla but we willnreturn soon

Takeaway last night. Three out of five dishes had large amounts of sugar in them. I called the proprietor who thanked me for not complaining online and therefore giving him the chance to rectify. I explained that having eaten in more Indian/Pakistani/Banglasdeshi restaurants in my life than I care to count, I generally know what passes for a dish. Some great, some ok, some bad...I'd lived for 30 years near Luton which has a large Asian diaspora and many good restaurants. I told him that these dishes were so loaded with sugar that they were closer to deserts. He asserted that he knows the trade and that all kormas (my stepson can't eat chilli) were sweetened in the UK. I don't doubt it but a) this was off the scale and b) top class Indian restaurants and chefs do not add sugar: they caramelise onions and use nuts... The same was true of an expensive king prawn makhani and a coconut rice (again my stepson's choice, not mine). I must say my lamb dish was very good and I was not calling to have a fight: more to give him a chance to realise that I was generally not satisfied. He asserted that he wanted a good outcome and asked how my partner had paid... Good , I thought. Having thrown away food I expected some kind of recompense. His offer. If I eat in his restaurant again I will get a free dish. Make of this what you will, I am not impressed.

Takeaway delivery.We have used the shapla for the last 20 years ,and the food is superb,but delivery tonight was nearly stone cold so very dissapointing.

Lovely meal here last night (11/02/2024) Great food and service and friendly staff. Not much was open Sunday night but we'll definitely return next time in Woodbridge.

Poor service from start, bad booked 2 weeks ago but no record. Pulled table apart so we could sit , no service or offer of drinks after 10 mins grabbed waiters attention to get some drinks and menu. Having ordered after a good half hour was still waiting for food over an hour and half decided to leave just saying for drinks. Can’t comment on the quality of the food as we never managed to experience it. Bitterly disappointed as this was a birthday treat for my partner

Excellent food and service (including a suggestion for the main dish I would not otherwise have tried).

Very poor service last night, waited nearly an hour for starters which meant one of our party had to leave before the main came out, one others main was cold so sent back, both of which they tried to charge us twice for although it wasn’t our fault, they also charged us about £50 more for what we don’t know, we paid because we had a train to catch but we WON’T be back, disappointed as we’d been before and enjoyed it! Watch out for hidden costs and if they think you may have had a few drinks they’ll try and get away with overcharging you!!

Brilliant food, great service and atmosphere. We have always used the shapla for Indian food - delivery and eating in. Both are fantastic services. Would recommend then to anyone passing by!

A charming restaurant with attentive staff and service. The food was excellent. Would recommend this place for a reasonably priced night out. My only criticism would be the toilet area needs some attention. New carpet, a lick of paint and a refresh wouldn't go amiss. Also during our visit we could hear a smoke alarm beeping like the batteries were low. Not sure if the staff noticed.

Called in without booking on Friday night (29th). The place was busy but they sorted us a nice table for two by the window. A real good mix of people throughout the restaurant, with a good atmosphere and vibe. Very friendly helpful staff. We both had different main meals with shared sides. All food was great. Service perfect. No complaints and we’ll be back. Thanks.

Popped in at 5pm on 23rd August, the first couple in there. We were greeted and seated in the window. What followed was THE tastiest meal ever! We both finished every scrap it was so good! Honestly, the best indian meal I've ever had! The staff were attentive and very polite. I'd recommend this place to anyone!

Food OK, however they charged me 15 pounds for one lassi. I was close to refuse the bill. Absolute rip off. Never again! Toilets and stairs to toilets not as clean as could be.
