What a find! Incredible food but not knowing what to expect was a little overfaced by the portions. This is not a criticism just an observation. The food was delicious and I would definitely revisit and recommend but would ask about the portion size. Amazing place.

Shanghai Shanghai never disappoints. My favourite is the aubergine, minced meat, and green beans with rice - a lunch item that they always serve me at dinner time if I ask. That's incredibly accommodating of them. A great spot for large groups too to share dishes. They have a wide variety of food, it's very sure you'll find something to your taste!

When we arrived we went too sure, it just looked like a café. So glad we went in, the food was absolutely amazing!!!! Definitely worth a visit.

Delivery, on time, hot and fresh. This place is PHENOMENAL!! HIGH CLASS food at reasonable prices. Absolutely fabulous! Freshly cooked, high end Cantonese/Chinese cooking! Salt and pepper prawns cooked to perfection..garlic/shrimp rolls..excellent/ fried duck/pork on noodles..just beautifully cooked and so very fresh! Well worth the prices, only just discovered as normally do Deliveroo at my daughters as unable to obtain delivery in rural Leicester. FABULOUS 👏👏👏

Excellent food, good portions, fair prices.

Great Cantonese food and the food was hot enough, especially as the weather in the UK is often quite cold. When you eat food from this restaurant, you will be moved to think of your home because the dishes prepared by the chef are very authentic and taste just like at home. Recommended dishes include barbecued pork, steamed rice with chicken feet and pork ribs, and fried beef brisket rice noodles, which are really, really delicious.

Food is tasty but could do with improvement in atmosphere. It tastes a tad bit better than a Chinese takeaway

The food was absolutely fantastic, I have no words, it was delivered hot, packed with flavour (salt and pepper squid and ribs) I recommend 100%! I will definitely order from here again as a treat as it is a bit pricey, especially for students. I wished there was a student discount. Vegetarian friends did say the vegetarian noodle was bland, but the chilli oil definitely helped! And little sister enjoyed the chicken noodles, again a bit bland but good for younger kids.

Truly Authentic Chinese Cuisine, Diners, Staff and Atmosphere - Gorgeous food and not at all stuffy fake news lighting, decorations, seating arrangements or even the music. If you want delicious yet real Chinese dishes, Shanghai Shanghai in Nottingham is your jam.

Had authentic Sichuan single dinner here, ordered the Chili pot of seafood and vegetable, the hot degree is just okay for me, food portion is massive and very fresh, vegetable covered bean sprouts, cabbage, celery, healthy, and tasty! A small shame that Tsingtao beer is sold out, will be back again!

I’m working in hospitality industry as well, but wow the service i received today was shockingly terrible and the lady who served us was plain rude. I went there to celebrate my birthday. We walked in and no one told us we have a time limit, nor anybody told us they’re closing. Once we sat down the lady came literally 2 minutes later ask if i have chosen food yet, when i said i haven’t and felt sorry for it, she continued said “why haven’t you chosen food, so slow”. 2 minutes later she came again, rushed me to order the food, once the food is on the table instead of introducing the meal’s name, she said “eat quickly, we’re closing soon!”. Ok we get it you wanna close the restaurant asap, but rushing us 3 times with rude words? put all the pressure on customers? wow, unbelievable!!! After that, they started making extremely loud noise with cutlery and tables trying to warn us every minute that they wanna get rid of us. And tried to take our plates off when there are 2 plates almost still full of food. A word of advice, if you can’t handle your job as managing a restaurant and be at least polite to customers, please do not accept us when we walked in, or simply find another job.

the best and i mean best food i have ever put inna mi mouth, i love this place — the portions are LARGE so don't be complaining about the price. i always get the salt and pepper squid and boy let me tell you it is INCREDIBLE. even the soy sauce is INCREDIBLE. the honey and garlic king prawn is INCREDIBLE. even the broccoli is SEASONED. i dont know where they negative reviews are coming from, dem people ain't got NOOOOO TASTE. i congratulate these hard working women and men because they put work and art into this food. i seriously recommend!!!

Nipped here after a few drinks based on trip advisors recommendations for ‘late night chinese nottingham’. Seated quickly, menu was vast & varied however we felt quite pricy for individual dishes so went for a set meal. All arrived at once due to kitchen closing which was fine by us. We had mixed starter which didnt seem to be on the menu as a single dish but was on the set menu. unfortunately had chips on it which we would never have chosen in a chinese. Egg fried rice okay texture but no real flavour. Chicken in ginger and garlic cabbage absolutely delicious. Crispy beef disappointing - didnt taste any real beef just batter. Staff laughing & joking & cleaning up - we felt in the way to be honest so opted to take the rest home. Charged for take away containers and bag after paying £50 for the food. Wouldn’t go back.

Staying away with work and was walking around the city looking for a bite to eat. Found a gem here! Can't remember what I had other than the salt and pepper squid, which was possibly the best I've ever had. Was so good I went back the next day just for the squid. I remember thinking the rest of the meal was also very good, just not what I'd ordered. Will be going back when I'm next in Nottingham for sure

Shared salt and pepper spare ribs, steamed dumplings and satay chicken for starters before I had the braised pork and my father had a noodle soup. All food was exceptional and came very quickly. Value was excellent too!

First time at this restaurant but won’t be the last . The food and service was amazing . Definitely recommend you try it for yourselves and you won’t regret it .

Not a good restaurant in general. Calling themselves Shanghai Shanghai, they don't actually sell Shanghaiese food, instead it's hongkongese and some other random Chinese dishes. The waitress we got, seems like she's from Hongkong, but she barely speaks English. So we spoke mandarin, but her attitude is like we owe her money or something, or because I didn't show enough worship to Hongkong. Wow, if you're that good, go to Beijing and confront communists, being racist to Chinese people doesn't prove you're a hero, does it? The food is fine, some good some bad, just ordinary Chinese food. I surely won't return to this place

Mediocre food and awful service. Avoid at all costs. We should have left from the first dish. We had prawn crackers that were worst than what you get in a supermarket.

Excellent authentic Chinese restaurant. Don't go if you want westernised Chinese food, this is the real deal. The beef ho-fung noodles were amazing, as was the sizzling tofu and the morning glory in garlic sauce.

We were at this place on two separate nights and the experiecnes have been consistently good. This place specialises in Sichuan and Cantonese food (despite the name :p), I was told at ordering. We ordered mainly Cantonese dishes and they didn't disappoint. The fried ho fen with pork (my husband doesn't eat beef) was especially good - apparently they make their ho fen in house. The stirfried lamb with cumin on both occasions were soooo good - I just hope it could've been of a bigger portion for full satisfaction. :) Aubergine with sea spice sauce and dry stewed fine bean with minced pork were also tasty and worked very well with the generous portion of rice. We didn't like the Kung Po Chicken though - no nuts and it tasted a bit too sweet to our liking. The service was excellent - waitresses so efficient, food served fast, and credit card accepted (for transactions over 10 quids). Overall, we were quite pleased to find this place and will surely go again.

A decent authentic Chinese place. The food was good, the prices were reasonable and the service was good. The decor is a little scruffy, it isn't as nice as it looks from the outside. The only real downside is that it is 2 minutes walk from U Canteen which is just better. But is you can't get a seat there and want Chinese it's a decent alternative.

Food was excellent, very authentic and meals were well portioned, brisket curry was really tender, definitely a noticeable difference with starters, much better than any takeaway or sit down restaurant I've been to. Only thing I felt was missing was duck in plum or orange sauce

Nice small restaurant that serve Delicious quality dishes in the centre of the town. Some of the dishes are a bit pricey. They do take away too but in my opinion, it’s better to dine in as everything is fresh out of the kitchen. They do not only traditional British-Chinese dishes but also proper Asian-Chinese dishes like Dan Dan noodles, hot griddle stir fried etc.

This was my first time here and i have to say, the food here was amazing! We enjoyed every part of the meal from start to finish. The menu had so much choice it was hard to pick because it all sounded so good and when it came out it diddnt disappoint. The staff were great, very helpful and friendly and the service was so fast. We all had a great time and will be back for sure.

Really disappointing. The portions are so small and overpriced. The honey and pepper prawn comes with 5 pieces of prawn for £13!!! It was all just onion. Absolutely no flavour, just so bad. Go around the corner to ucanteen for good Cantonese food that’s actually worth the price.

Great restaurant with yummy Chinese food. The taste is good for Asian and also European. Noodles, chicken, ducks, pork and beef are all good. Actually this is my friend's most famous restaurant in Nottingham.

Cheerful place. Menu has changed a fair bit and prices have increased over the past years but the food still tastes great. There are a lot of authentic choices and the clientele are testament to this! Been a happy customer of this place for years!

It doesn't look the nicest place decor wise, and put in the back room that could do with a lick of paint, but it is clean and tidy. It's the food that you go for here, which is outstanding. Plenty of food, walked out absolutely stuffed. Not the cheapest but still worth it and the staff all friendly and helpful.

How can you messed up an egg fried rice ? i am asian and have been to many Chinese restaurants in the uk, while the price in this restaurant is similar to others in Notts, the quality is clearly not. The egg fried rice was an absolute nightmare for £3.90 for plain rice mixed in eggs Honestly if they actually wok fried and seasoned it it wouldn’t taste like that. Because the you would be able to taste the aromatic coming from high heat wok. I do encourage you to come and try it for yourself tho On the window they put a piece of article that says “city restaurant that had top critic licking his lips” along with big glass windows That’s what fooled me into trying this restaurant Paid £23.50 for all of these, did not finish.

Nice Chinese cuisine, it names Shanghai but it's probably mixed cuisine like Szechwan. The food is delicious. Reminded that the vegetable soup is not vegetarian because it has dried scallop

Lovely lady on arrival showed us to our chair... ordered a drink and some prawn crackers. Then the rudest person I have ever met started to talk down us the started talking in Chinese to her colleague whst she didn't know is I am fluent In chinese... safe to say we paid up and left. Saturday 8th October around 7pm canteen style plain decor & full of mostly Chinese, seated & given menus, never opened just ordered what we order from our local takeaway, salt & pepper garlic chicken, green pepper beef in black bean, singapore fried noodles, tsingtao, food excellent & authentic staff lovely, total bill £32 paid via contactless.

The rice and noodles were clearly pre cooked. Both soggy and the egg fried rice didn’t taste of egg,no spring onion nothing!……Meat was decent reasonably good. Prawn toast was burnt and taste awful. The best and most lovely dish was the salt and pepper squid. Overall I wouldn’t order again. £40 is a lot of money to receive such food.

Having read about this restaurant we decided to give it a try. Simply furnished with no ‘cheesy’ Chinese artefacts, it is all about the cuisine, which is the best I’ve had outside of Manchester’s Chintatown or Hong Kong itself! The hot & sour soup was exactly that, and was followed by a chicken dish, a pork dish, a cabbage dish and a generous bowl of rice. By the end we were stuffed and satisfied, all for under £20 each (we chose the Shanghai set menu). I cannot recommend this restaurant enough

The menu offers plenty of choice and every dish we chose was seriously tasty. What a great dining experience in friendly unpretentious surroundings.

We ordered a takeaway for the first time from the restaurant, we had eaten several times in the restaurant and the food was amazing. The takeaway was very good but didn’t seem as authentic as the eat in meals. One of the dishes, chicken with honey and black bean, looked completely different to when we ate in. Still a very good meal but left us a bit perplexed!

Delicious food and Wonderful food. Reasonable price in all menu ! If you like spicy food, I will highly recommend boiled fish fillet in spicy sauce! And roast duck and crispy duck is wonderful! 食過咁多間中菜，可以話係Nottingham 最好味嘅一間！價錢合理，服務同食物好好！鍾意食辣嘅我會大力推薦水煮魚，另外燒鴨同埋香酥鴨都好好味！

The stuff are so patient to introduce the mein for us. It takes a little while to have the food (because there were do many people !) But the food is so nice. Highly recommended to everyone who want to try Chinese food.

After shopping in Nottingham on Friday we called in at our favourite Restaurant in the Lace Market and as usual had an excellent meal. I lived in China for many years and the Shanghai Shanghai is the best of all the Chinese restaurants in Nottingham

Here use to be my favourite Chinese restaurant in Nottingham, but the recently visit was very disappointing! The roast duck I have bought it’s not roasted at all, more like a steamed duck... also the meat still very pink which shouldn’t show in a roasted duck at all.

Pre-theatre on a Thursday. Surprisingly busy, both with diners and any number of Deliveroo collections. Fairly basic surroundings but adequate for purpose. Huge choice of dishes although not a very many marked vegetarian options.Good spring rolls and also steamed buns. My pork main was very spicy, which I like, but my wife’s vegetarian main was too spicy for her. Be warned - the spice rating on the menu is either 1 chilli or no chillis, but both 1 chilli dishes were very spicy, i.e. more like 2 or 3 chillis (out of 3) elsewhere.Huge servings. One vegetarian main was enough for 2. Good rice and noodles, but we ended up with far too much food. I guess there are worse problems to have.

early dinner - shared a couple of set menu dinners with a group of girlfriends before going to concert at motorpoint arena, location is ideal. food was great, service good, plenty of chinese people eating .. always a good sign!
