Came here for my birthday, everything was spot on

Quiet night but great food promptly served as always with pleasant staff

Went for mothering Sunday lunch 😋 it was amazing all the dishes were hot well cooked and tasted fantastic and will have Sunday lunch there again brilliant thanks for a great time

I came here as my friend invited me, however my last experience was really bad, so I thought I would give it a chance. The seating is crowded and uncomfortable. You are constantly knocked as staff walk past you. Service is very bad. Staff are rude. We ordered our food. Don't order any sea food here as it is very bad. We told them our mussels were bad and the told us you don't have to eat them but we have to pay for them. Disgusting. I told them to bin them, I'm sure they served them to another table as I saw the dish come back out within a minute. I was sick most of the evening. Take caution when eating here. Many better restaurants in Nottingham which are respectful and have great food. Shame on you.

I recently visited Chung's Mapperley, and unfortunately, I must report a very unsatisfactory experience. The service left much to be desired, with the waiter displaying a lack of professionalism and courtesy. My primary concern was with the mussels, which seemed out of season and had an off taste, compromising the quality of the meal. Despite bringing this to the attention of the waiter, there was an unwilling refusal to address the issue or remove the item from the bill. This lack of customer care and service was disheartening. I would advise caution to potential patrons and suggest looking for other dining options in the area.

Nice place. Aent for Sunday buffet But food a bit limited. I expected a Chineese curry but no. No poppadoms. What Chinese does not have poppadoms.? And £4 for a soda water that is free most places.

Celebrated the lunar new year absolutely fantastic as always, great service, food is second to none , lion dancers put on a great show and the whole evening was so enjoyable, dancing singing and the warmest of host Mr chung xx

Every time we go they are closing by 9…. There was 18 of us yet been turned away as chef was tired, we are 51 years old, been going since we was young, actually had my 18th there, unfortunately we have now given up, so sad.

We have left Nottingham for a number of years and wanted to go to our favourite restaurant. The food was cold. We were given a table facing the kitchen although the restaurant was almost empty. Nobody asked if everything was ok at anytime. We asked for the bill and the waiter stripped our table of the cloth although we were still drinking our wine. Very rude!

Fantastic food, great atmosphere with fantastic staff,if you like kantenise food this is the place to go, give it a try, marvelous 👍🍻🥳

The food is consistently wonderful as always! We've received excellent service from certain staff members, although some seem to pay more attention to favorite customers. Despite this, we have been going to this Chinese restaurant for over 20 years and it remains our favorite!

Wow! Such great food, all piping hot. Delicious! And the staff were all super friendly. I recommend the minced pork with lettuce and the crispy shredded beef.

The Best Chinese Restaurant In The Whole Of Nottinghamshire. A+++++++++++++

We went for the Sunday buffet at my daughters request. Probably will the last time to be honest. The staff are lovely, the food is fairly limited but its hot, fresh and tasty but nothing special. They class anyone over 10 years old as an adult so at £17.50 for an adult a basic lunchtime buffet for a family of 4 (1 13year old & 1 15 year old) gets quite pricey.

We booked a table of 6 for a birthday but were disgusted by the attitude of the staff and had to walk out. We went straight to Springwater in Calverton, amazing! We had a 3 year old with an egg allergy and the Restaurent firstly did not have an allergy menu to confirm anything. The staff were not reassuring and secondly they refused to change a meat samosa in the hors d’oeuvres to a veggie spring roll to accommodate the allergy. How can that be too much effort? Secondly their attitude in raising this request was so hostile and blunt, they said either choose something else from the menu or leave. There was no consideration, just black or white, “we don’t change anything on the menu”! The expectation was to order everything separately at extra cost, for the sake of frying a roll instead of a samosa. Fearful that they would spit in our food, we decided to leave than order food in such a vile place. Avoid for the appalling service and attitude but especially if you have any allergies! Mapperley has so many better options that actually open the blinds to day light.

Been coming here for years. Over those years I’ve lived in Australia and Amsterdam. The first thing I do when I come back is book a table. Paper wrapped prawns, spare ribs, monkfish, Cantonese beef. If I was to have a death row meal Chungs would be top of the list. I’ve just booked to go the day I get home from Amsterdam next week which is why I am excitedly writing this review

We came as a group of 10 with 3 kids under 2. Gonna be honest the food was lovely and the service was superb. the only issue was the lack of attention to the children. unfortunately the table was too small too include my child properly in his high chair so was left to be behind me during meal making it uncomfortable for us both. he was upset most of the time but was due too his teething (as babies do) and after the meal i went to change his nappy and dress him for bed as it was late and there was no changing room. i was left to dress him on my knee in the toilet. was traumatic for me and him. i did adress this issue and they were kind and hope it changes for the future.

We have eating at Chungs for years and it never fails to disappoint. We wouldn’t go anywhere else.

We have been going to Chungs for many years.We have always had excellent service and always excellent food.You must always book early for Friday and Saturdays, the atmosphere especially on these days is fabulous.You see the same people many times, so it shows what a good restaurant it is, and the owner is so friendly and can’t do enough for you.

Just had a wonderfull meal, served by a very attentive waiter. Excellent value for money, cant wait to go again. Thank you Chungs.

No matter how good the food is, it is always tainted if the staff are rude. The last visit here was spoiled by horrible rude staff and nothing has changed. Rude, rushing you and just awful attitude. Will never go back.

We went for the Sunday buffet, there was not much option and the food was cold and tasteless. There was barely any vegetarian options and there was no labels on the food so you had no idea what you were eating. We had a male waiter who was really rude and abrupt, he made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. It ruined the experience and we will not be returning.

Good meal but a little expensive

A very rude waiter ruined what is usually an excellent dining experience,the food is always good and the service is usually warm and friendly ,one waiter let the whole team down with his rude and brusque attitude, we felt like an inconvenience by being there ,we have been using chungs for decades ,usually in large groups ,we have never been treated so badly before, i would probably return but if it was that waiter again and no alternative i would leave, ruined the evening .

Excellent food as akways ,the evening was ruined by the extremely rude waiter ,had it not been a large group i would of simply left ,his attitude stank ,we were made to feel uncomfortable and an inconvenience, i would not return if i was served by the same miserable and rude waiter id simply leave and never go back ,such a shame as the food is excellent the owner is lovely and the rest of the staff are friendly and polite, one bad apple can ruin the whole crate.

You wouldn't know from the outside looking in with those blinds in the way, but lovely interior. Amazing service from all the staff, they were all welcoming and attentive.

Absolutely brilliant. Food was delicious, authentic and hot. The staff were ever so friendly, and after informing them that I have a nut allergy, were very happy to accommodate and make sure I chose things off the menu that were suitable. Very direct and straight to the point and I love that.

We've been coming to Chung's for 30 years or more and the food is always excellent. The staff are attentive, efficient and a really lovely, caring team. Can't recommend highly enough.

Just eaten here for the first time this evening. Came here after a recommendation from a friend. Glad we did. Food quality was excellent, portion size far more than enough and the waiter service was friendly and welcoming. Atmosphere was friendly and family based. Price was good value for what we had. We will definitely eat here again.

Without doubt the best Cantonese restaurant in Nottingham. Food is excellent and the service is second to none. Just wonderful.

Lovely ambience, friendly and efficient service, delicious food.

We have been to Chungs dozens of times over many years and as recently as 2 weeks ago but tonight I am sorry to say was dreadful! It started with a very stern and unhelpful waitress who said no to everything but our next table it was yes I can do that ! Aromatic duck was possibly the worse I have ever eaten just fried fatty duck minced like saw dust you could not detect any duck ! Cantonese beef was as tough and old leather ! I could go on

Absolutely love this place and never had a bad meal yet. The staff and service received are exceptional, cannot find fault with this restaurant. The spare ribs, prawn toast and mini spring rolls are the best we have ever tasted. We once went and my daughter had 2 lots of starters for her meal, enough said

Didn’t get beyond sitting down! Awful appearance from the outside - no atmosphere inside! Friendly staff and lovely Carlsberg - the issue was such a limited set menu. I haven’t been here for 30 years, it used to be rammed, there were only 5 other folk in! We left after drinks

Visited last night, the food was excellent and service very good. Had the lemon chicken for main and mint chocolate dessert.

I ABSOLUTELY LIVE FOR CHUNGS!!! Whether it's mine, Mum's or Dad's birthday We Are Back EVERY SINGLE YEAR!!!!! Service is perfect. End of. You are greeted when you walk in, the staff are so polite and happy. They look like they want to be there, and that goes a long way. The food is always served fast and hot. Finger bowls are provided after starters with ribs, etc. There is a small car park literally over the road. I'm just glad I don't live closer, because I'd spent too much on takeaways looooool. Sadly no photo's of the food. That's how good it is. I literally just want to eat! If you haven't been there, YOU MUST!!!!!!!

My family & I visited Chungs midweek & were very disappointed. The food was amazing but the service really let it down. The staff were impatient & rude & we will not go back. It’s a real shame.

Went to Chungs for my son's birthday - it was lovely! We were welcomed and seated by a friendly waiter, greeted by another one who just happened to be walking past our table. We were given our menus, made our order and served quickly, efficiently, interspersed with polite conversation, and all with a smile. The food was really tasty, the portions were large, and what we couldn't eat was put into carry-out containers and bagged up. We'll definitely be going back - thank you Chungs 😊

Went last night lovely highly recommended

For well over 30 years this has been,and will continue to be the restaurant of choice for me. All others I visit or buy food from have to be judged in comparison , some may come close at times however none has matched or exceeded the Gold standard Chungs sets for food and service excellence . The family should be very proud of their Nottingham institution , if you have never been then experience it for yourself , and write you're own revue . If you're a regular ,I'll see you there soon, very soon.

It was our first time eating here this evening. I can see why is it such a favourite with locals in Mapperley. The food was great and the service was excellent, we were really well looked after. We will definitely return.

Chung of Mapperley provide traditional cantonese dishes which in reasonable price.

Excellent food, service and atmosphere

Wanted a dine in Chinese and after a quick Google search I came across this one. The reviews were good so we thought we'd give it a try. The restaurant was very clean albeit a bit dated and we were greeted and seated promptly. Went for the set meal for 2 for £40 and it was very very nice! A nice chicken broth starter followed by sweet and sour chicken, beef in black bean, spicy pork and special rice. We both loved it and just the right size as it all went and both full. Definitely recommend 💯

Poor customer service, preferential treatment towards white customers and not people of colour. Rigid menu, poor service. Will not return nor recommend to others!

First time visiting. Four of us met for an evening meal. We each had soup followed by the set menu for four. We then had desserts. We were very happy with both the quantity and the quality of the food. We managed to finish it all but it was plenty. I'm not sure about the value as I have not visited a Chinese restaurant for a long time before this but I shall certainly return.

Lovely food, quick service and very friendly staff.

Lovely meal as always but no or little heating in restaurant meant we needed to keep coats on or feel cold. We understand the costs of heating but it spoilt the experience and we can't go again on a winters night under those conditions.

Excellent food and the best service you can get

I’m not sure why this restaurant is popular? We ordered a meal for a largish group which seemed to be made needlessly complicated with the waiter. He actually seemed to be telling us what we should have. When it did arrive it was a few small plates of food which was not adequate for the adults wanting to eat. The food was bland and tasteless. Nothing was memorable or nice.

A fantastic meal celebrating my stepmum 60th birthday, the family are well known to the owner who always excels in fantastic service and amazing food , always fresh and fantastic flavour particularly the wings which were beautiful and could eat over and over again.

Absolutely brilliant night, they couldn't do enough. I'm vegan and what I had was fabulous.

Over 25 years we have been coming here. The food is always of a high standard but the very best thing is the service. The staff (big shout out to Eddie) have made my son feel special since the age of 3, he's now 18 and they still remember him and make a fuss of us all. I cannot recommend highly enough.

I have been to Chungs on numerous times over the past 20 years. It is unreal and never fails to amaze anyone I take there. 5 years ago I was diagnosed as coeliac and can no longer eat gluten. Chungs are amazing with this. Each waiter/waitress knows exactly what is and isn’t gluten free on the menu, they will also make you something special if they don’t do something gluten free that you want. The crispy beef, lemon chicken, crispy prawns and lots of other favourites are automatically gluten free. Please try this place! It is family run and the best chinese in Nottingham.

A party of us visited Chungs as a joint celebratory dinner. It must be 10 years or so since my partner and I last dined here. The food then was second to none and I assured our friends that they wouldn't be disappointed. We had a set meal for six and the only dish in the menu that had any real flavour was the spare ribs. The other dishes were bland and quite frankly it was difficult to differentiate any of the dishes, as they all tasted very similar. The house wine was okay but we had to wait an hour for tap water, after politely asking five times. I'm not sure what has happened to this restaurant as dining here used to the highlight of our week.

Thoroughly enjoyed my evening at the Chungs of Mapperley restaurant for my mate's 21st birthday. From the lemon chicken to the sweet and sour fish, it is up there with some of the best Chinese food I have had. The service was very quick, the staff were helpful and it was a really pleasant experience that complemented the delicious food. Couldn't have asked for a better evening, very grateful to the chefs, staff and the restaurant owners for making it happen. Highly recommend it to anyone!

Just been back after 30 yrs to find that on entering it was what you want to drink and what you want to eat ...no prawn crackers to munch on while you digest the menu...starter of duck rolled in with hardly any spring onion or cucumber to eat with the duck ...within seconds of plates taken away main course arrived and no asking of whether you were ready and the portions so small wouldn't feed a child ...really feel that all they are interested in is taking your money . .came all the way from Devon to have this meal ..will certainly won't be coming back ....

Absolutely incredible experience! The decor is stunningly beautiful and very pristine, immersive, eye-pleasing and such. Right from the entrance, there is a gorgeous little fish pond with very well kept/fed Koi and other fish in it and a wonderful Buddha statue and huge vase with gorgeous flowers. I absolutely loved the decor, I felt very relaxed there too and the staff were extremely friendly, polite, respectful, attentive and humble. Easily some of the greatest service we've ever had! The food was exceptional, completely delicious and very generous portions! We definitely got our money's worth and want to return again, especially with other people too! The crispy prawns and black bean chicken were exceptional, with the prawns being so beautifully battered, so light and crispy and the prawns juicy and flavoursome. All ingredients in all our dishes were fresh and cooked to prefection too, all very flavoursome. This is the best Chinese (Cantonese) food we've ever experienced and we were extremely happy after dining here due to the service, food, atmosphere and such. Thank you for such a wonderful time and experience, I wholeheartedly recommend this place, it's a one of a kind! A real hidden gem!

It was our 1st time at Chungs on Saturday night ... Received a warm welcome on arrival, However, we found the menu choices to be poor with lots of Chinese meals not even on the menu ... The food that we received was OK , However, Felt the cost of the food to be rather expensive at £77.00 for 1 starter, 2 mains , 2 sides and 4 non alcohol drinks. Also where we was sat was near the toilets and it was very cold and draughty.

Terrific food, but terrible service. Decided to venture here for Mother’s Day with a family of 5. Prior to visiting we called the restaurant to confirm if there would be possibility both vegetarian and vegan options. Which we were told were possible. But as we arrived to ask about specifics of the menu as these options were very limited with veggie and no vegan options we were met with hostility and unprofessional behaviour from our main waiter. We were offered no alternatives to the specific set menu. Although this is a Cantonese restaurant where everything is prepared fresh they were unwilling to cooperate with suitable alternatives. Very disappointing, as I’ve visited here a couple of times a few years ago and didn’t expect this type of dismissive behaviour.. The main waiter refused to explain what other options were available. Very unfortunate and sad as it was a place I once recommended to friendship . Not sure if they were having a bad night due to it being Mother’s Day. But the least anyone would hope for is compromise. Especially for a group of 5.

Went here last night, food was nice but a bit annoyed that when a female waitress came to ask us what we want, we hadn't had time to even open the menu so we asked for a bit more time and she responded saying "ok but the chef needs to know what you want soon" so felt like we were being rushed, then we ordered a bottle of wine which cost £20 a bottle, a different waiter went out the restaurant and came back in, didn't really think anything of it, then after our expensive meal which cost £78 for two, we went for a drink in the bar next door and got a bottle of wine to share in there which was the same wine as chungs served us, then we clicked that the waiter must have gone to get our wine from there and then added an extra £5 to the price. Won't go back due to the service and the high prices. Left feeling a bit ripped off and wasn't a nice relaxing experience

Really enjoyed this place. Came from online reviews, not disappointed. Does have parking which we couldn't find out on line before but parked nearby and short walk. One Vegetarian, one not, on mid week eve. Staff friendly, service excellent and attentive. We had starters and mains reasonable choice for vegetarians. Especially enjoyed the sweet and sour cucumber, husband had paper wrapped pork chop which he also said was good. Would come more often if we lived closer.

Starters came in under 5 minutes of ordering, spare ribs micro waved with a type of sweet and sour come BBQ sauce , not fully heated, crispy seaweed not fresh , spring rolls cold and horrid. Side dishes noddles were those very fine types reheated...
