Shanghai Chinese Takeaway in Dover

Just had a SHOCKINGLY BAD meal from Shanghai in Sandwich. The food was appalling ! Chow Mein so burnt it was black, rice was cold and dry and the Chicken Balls were just batter, they hadn’t been anywhere near a chicken ! I had politely asked to change one item to an alternative dish and was charged an extra £1. When I queried it, was told that it was a “fine” for asking to change from a chop suey to a chow mein. Even though the chow mein was cheaper than the chop suey !! Bad business, bad customer service and bad food. Never again !

Originally we had disappointing meals but then there was a great improvement so we enjoyed many good meals - including for my Vegan wife. However, the most recent meal was a disappointment - the sweet and sour mixed vegetable sauce was too runny - the prawns in my King Prawn Chow Mein were inedible and I had to leave them. So has the management changed? Will we be able to order takeaways again?

Having checked on their website we ordered a meal for three (website price £28) for delivery, and were told it would be with us in 30 mins. The cost was given as £33, we assumed the extra was for delivery.After an hour, we phoned and were told it would be with us in 10 minutes. After another 30 minutes we were told it was still sitting in the kitchen. I went to collect it expecting to pay the price less delivery charge but was told the website price was wrong (is this legal?). I reluctantly paid the £33. At no stage were we offered any kind of apology. The food wasn't bad but the experience was awful.

Food of a good quality in the Classic British Chinese tradition and prompt service - delivery is also available.

Have again used this Take Out during lock-down 2020/2021. Food always tasty/yummy. Opt always for the collection service, as just easier. Thank you.

Got the set meal for 2 takeaway. Really tasty food and not greasy at all!! More than enough food. Definitely recommend
