Shandiz Persian & BBQ Grill in Brighton and Hove

I absolutely love the atmosphere at Shandis in Hove. The food is in a league of its own, the freshness and taste, the hummus, the lamb, the presentation of it all. And their cocktails are fantastic and fairly priced, especially the porn star martini, my favourite. The decor, the staff, the music, all adds to the experience you have at Shandis.

What a Gem in Hove . The food is delicious especially the Chicken fillet which was tender and juicy. Portions are generous.A great spot for authentic persian meal. Higher recommended.

If you love Persian food, Shandiz is a must! Their Shishlik is insanely good tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The vibe is cozy and welcoming, and the staff make you feel right at home. Highly recommend.

We always go here for a day date when we fancy some Persian food for lunch. The atmosphere is better when there’s more people in there! I’m not sure why more people don’t go in the day time as they have a great lunch menu. The selection is great Anna the sharing players are very romantic.

Title: “Where the Customer Is Never Right — According to the Owner” Dining out is supposed to be an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, this restaurant seems to think customers are the enemy — especially the owner. We had high hopes going in, but that quickly changed the moment we asked a simple question about the menu. The owner, who happened to be walking by, jumped into the conversation uninvited and responded with a sarcastic, condescending tone — as if we were wasting his time by wanting to understand what we were ordering. Later, when we politely mentioned that one of the dishes was cold and not what we expected, the situation escalated fast. Instead of listening or offering to make it right, the owner came to our table and lectured us about how “people like us” always complain. Yes — that’s an actual quote. He went on a bizarre rant about “entitled customers” and basically told us to take it or leave it. We were stunned. Not only was the food subpar, but the way we were treated made the whole experience feel personal — like we’d done something wrong just by walking in. Other tables nearby looked equally uncomfortable. It seems like this isn’t an isolated incident, but the way this place operates. It’s one thing for food to miss the mark. It’s another for the owner of a business to go out of their way to belittle paying customers. I won’t be back — not because of one bad meal, but because no one deserves to be disrespected just for speaking up

Really looking forward to this lunch.BUT. No welcome. No smiles. Not attentive. Manager / waiter to busy playing with his hair in the mirror and then serving food. I was having fun with my other diners and felt really good until the food arrived. The food was very mediocre indeed. Tasteless with no attempt to make the food look special. Sauce with my slow cooked shank was a thin watery and bland gravy. Everything was with rice and the other options were either chips or grilled or fried vegetables. There were no spices or aromatics. This is supposed to be Persian cuisine. My main course of slow cooked lamb shank in sauce looked awful. Left feeling very upset. If I have a good experience I will let you know. This lunch was dreadful.

Delicious food, I can't remember exactly what we had but the grilled lamb fillet was really good. Don't miss out on the mix of sauces and bread, particularly the aubergine one!

Amazing atmosphere, we turned up after making a reservation, was welcomed with smiles. Food was absolutely amazing!! Not many vegetarian main dishes, but it's expected when you are going to a grill place. Only one of our party of 4 was vegetarian, but he made up for it with a dessert.

Visiting Shandiz was truly a magnificent dining experience. They've nailed ambiance of the restaurant. Mouth watering food with every mouthful and fantastic service. Well done guys, well done.

This place is a little gem. The food was absolutely delicious, and the portions were quite large for the price. It was a literal feast! They also have several vegetarian options The atmosphere is very nice and the restaurant is dog friendly. The staff is absolutely lovely, so kind and helpful. I very much recommend this restaurant!

We are spoiled for choice when it comes to great food in Brighton & Hove. So it always comes as a pleasant surprise when you find somewhere new that blows your doors off. This isn't super clever, chic, or out on the culinary edge - this is amazingly well done Persian food with big flavours and a big heart. Biggest compliment you can pay any restaurant is to go back... and I will be back. 10/10

I found this location by accident as I had a business meeting & nowhere to go. I was very fortunate as the smiling staff ushered me me to a takble. Nibbles & oliives while I waited, starting with olives, my starter being grilled giant prawns, which were excellent. Grilled lamb steaks, which was so amazingly tender. A wonderful glass of red wine, so smooth. A real treat. I will return.

I will not rate this restaurant based on the food but based on the experience we had. We were a party of 4 people. During our meal we ordered 2 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc which tasted fine. We ordered a 3rd bottle of the same wine and the waiter came over to us and started to pour it. While pouring the wine I noticed the colour was a deeper yellow and asked the waiter if it's the same wine. He showed me the bottle and said "same wine". Fair enough it was the same bottle. When we all tried the wine the taste was completely different and we complained. All the waiter said was "same wine, look see" and kept showing us the bottle. We went round in circles for about a minute and gave up as it was our friends birthday and didn't want to make a scene. It was a screw top bottle so the wine was not corked however we felt ripped off and conned by the restaurant who either refused to replace the bottle with a new one or who had somehow tampered with the wine as the waiter did not open the bottle in front of us. I will never go back to this restaurant again on principle!

I had a meal today, this is the first time at Shandis restaurant. It was too delicious specially lamb chops, chicken Wings, kebabs and highly recommended for nan. And the atmosphere is really good. Thanks for a great hospitality. 😊

this place has gone down the hill. It used to be very good but recently on both visits we were not happy at all. I think chef has changed and food isn’t good at all. Won’t be coming back anymore.

First time at Shandiz and absolutely loved it, great food and atmosphere. Meat was so tender and the rice was full of Persian flavours. For dessert the chocolate brownie was heavenly. Even got After Eights with the bill 😃. Will definitely be back.

Couldn’t fault this restaurant if I tried. The food ingredients are of the highest standard and it shows in the taste of the food. The cleanest kitchens I’ve come across. The lamb chops is a must and the staff are fantastic

Wow! This is my new favourite restaurant. The starters were amazing, the grilled meat was another level, service great and layout and decor of the restaurant was very high end- all makes for a busy restaurant with great atmosphere.

It's a lot of fun, but it's a bit gummy and gummy

I tried the 2 course lunch menu today, and I'm afraid the portion size left a lot to be desired. The Kobideh was one skewer with very little rice, so I opted for an extra skewer of kabab instead of dessert and Tea.

Visiting for work purposes, I had a meal that included bits of chicken, lamb with rice, chips and salad, genuinely a fantastic meal, lamb is difficult to get right given the nature of how people like it to be cooked, was done well. But the best part was the chicken for me, very tasty, would definitely recommend.

Delicious food and great service, has to be one of my favourite restaurants in Hove! I absolutely love their joojeh chicken, the meat is so tender and mouth watering, when we go as a family we share the mixed grill, which has a great variety of items from the menu if you wanted to try a little bit of everything. Portion sizes are generous intact if anything we never manage to finish them ! great value for money ! I highly recommend.

Have always loved this place, but the portion sizes have reduced massively, the service was a bit off but appreciate everyone is entitled to a bad day. Mentioned portion sizes at the end and was told to ask for more next time. Lastly served an Irish coffee that was cold so I flagged and they apologised only to microwave it and then tell me they hadn’t. It’s the same one I’ve handed back and the glass is hot including the base. Disappointing as like I say have always loved the place.

I recently dined at this exquisite restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. The food and service were exceptional, the ambiance was perfect. The menu offered an authentic experience with a wide variety of traditional flavors, catering to both meat and vegetable lovers. The grilled dishes were among the best I've ever had, and the service was both very friendly and top-notch. The appetizers, including Dolmeh, Ribs, and Saganki, were incredibly delicious, carrying the beautiful essence of Middle Eastern flavours. After the recent renovation, the interior looks fantastic. The service is outstanding as always. The food is always great, the menu has good variety. No wonder the restaurant is always full. This is my favourite place in Hove. I highly recommend!

My absolute favourite, service is spectacular the staff are very welcoming and friendly, they take the time to explain the menu in detail. Their food is delicious full of flavour, always neatly presented on the plate. Very good selection of wines and beverages to chose from. Our all time favourite is the joojeh, however we did try the seabass last week and that was excellent ! I would highly recommend it! The beautiful decoration adds to the ambiance no matter what the occasion.

This restaurant is in the heart of Hove. I keep going in there every weekend. They are really busy so it is better to book a table. The atmosphere, the staff and the food is absolutely lovely. Best place to visit if u haven’t yet.

No need to chat about the food it's fab. Great décor with comfortable seating, booths group tables and discreet dinning available. Authentic Persian artifacts abound. See the impressive wall mounted display with items such as the Faravahar "falcon" which is the best-known ancient symbol of Persia.The Water Goddess of Persia: Anahita Sun and the Lion is an ancient Persian symbol comprised of two images: A lion wielding a Persian a shamshir sword. All for your perusal, and if you ask I'm sure you will get the story behind them all. Enjoy.

Didn't have a great meal here. The food was tasteless. They really need to marinade their meat and chicken with better quality spices. The best thing about this place was the tea, it came with a sugar stick. Just shame about the food.

Bland, overpriced, and tiny portion of food on a big plate. Never returning.

We visited here on on 20thJuly and it seemed like a normal night. I don't know when it reopened after lock down and the staff weren't wearing masks. Personally it doesn't bother me but it might some people. The food was really nice and the service was very friendly. Well worth a visit.

Went to try this place out heard good things about it must say this will be the last avoid!! Ordered 2x Bakhtlyarl dish large ones only got 4 piece of chicken 4 piece lamb few salad and rice tasted so bland no flavour was £25 each. Cup of chips were £4.00 which was greasy. Very expensive and overpriced. There are other better places in church road to eat so avoid this place.

If you enjoy eating a chicken leg that looks and tastes like cardboard, served with a cup of rice and a few diced tomatoes and cucumbers, for £20, then this is the place for you. Oh, and you can wash it down with a glass of House White that tastes like petrol.

Very good value 2 courses for £14.00 and good size portions...my main course was lamb maybe should have gone for the minced lamb as it was a bit tough and dry...pleasant staff and surroundings...we go again

Me and my wife visited this restaurant for the first time got to say it looked amazing the food was really good we had a good time just a little bit expensive I would’ve thought but well worth a try.. staff at first I thought they were a bit arrogant but when they got to know us they seem to be alright..

Ordered one of the specials, only to be told it was unavailable. The alternative that I ordered was uneatable - dry chicken with a bland and tasteless sauce. Some of the staff showed a bit of attitude when I sent it back. Very pricey for the quality of the food.

I have been in shandiz on many occasions and the food is always spot on! Salad oliveh is definitely one of the best i ever had, tried that dish in many other persian restaurants in Brighton but nowhere it tastes soo good like in shandiz. The grilled meat its always cooked to perfection and taste amazing. And the free olives is a nice way to feel welcome and nibble on something when u look at menu. My only negative about this place is i absolutely agree with other opinions about food being not soo good when u order delivery( had seriously undercooked minced lamb!, no tomatoes and no garlic and chilli sauce)

The Food was amazing in a lovely atmosphere with great service.

Previously a regular visitor but hadn't been for a while. Returned yesterday and was even better than before. Hummus, bread, sea bass, baklava, all so fresh and perfectly cooked. Yum.

My two friends and I went there on Thursday and ordered three seabass. I must say the food was awful. The food design, service and atmosphere were good, but the food was really tasteless. They didn't even add salt to the food. I hope there will be a fundamental change in the taste of the food. My friends were of the same opinion with me and they will definitely write the same reviews
