Shama in Kirklees

I was introduced to this curry house by work colleagues and I have never looked back! I love everything about Shama - the staff are always so friendly and helpful and you can have a good chin wag with them. The food is also absolutely gorgeous. It's so tasty and just such good quality! jam-packed with flavour and is just divine. There are a lot of curry houses around but not many of them (in my opinion) are any good. I come from Halifax to get a Shama as it's just so good! They are really accommodating too if anyone in your party needs a mild curry.

Ordered takeaway..was delivered in 35 mins and delicious! Very affordable ..defo order again and will sit in next time

About a month ago I rang and booked a table for 9 people as Boxing Day gets pretty booked up. We turned up for 1pm, the time I requested, with no one in sight. I rang the number and a gentleman man rang me back 20mins later. I asked him why he was closed as we had booked a table!? He said he would ring me back. Seven hours later I’m still awaiting an explanation or at the very least an apology!!! Used to go here a lot not anymore. I will take my custom elsewhere from now on. This is the trouble now you cannot book through messenger so you have proof that you’ve booked!!!

First of all we waited 45 minutes to be seated after our original booking of 5pm then came 4 poppadoms to go around eight people . So said to waiter there's 8 not 4 and we are having the Christmas menu he then said very arrogant that we couldn't choose our own we could only pick a main meal then they tried to charge us double even tho we had a deposit receipt won't be going again what an absolute appalling experience for a work team wanting to celebrate Christmas

Christmas Eve meal. Staff wearing cute red hats, wishing us all Merry Christmas. Food and service as top notch as ever. We’ve had 2 Christmas Day meals her the last two years. The staff are delightful, kind, warm and welcoming. Food is delicious. Merry Christmas to all the Shama team.

We have been lots of times to shama taking family (18) and lots of friends, it was my wife's birthday today unfortunately she wasn't well enough to go out so second best I ordered a takeaway for 17.15 it had not arrived by 18.00 so I rang shama to be told the order had been dispatched at 17.00 when it arrived it was cold Hussein told me they would give me a free meal. I have owned 5 fast food outlets and never had to give a free meal because I made sure the order was right as the customer ordered when are these guys going to it right first time ????

Slightly out of town, and this restaurant doesn’t have a bar licence, but that isn’t a problem as you can get drinks from the pub next door. Very friendly and attentive staff, great variety of dishes to choose from, and very reasonable prices. Lots of locals in the restaurant, which I take as a good sign, even though we went on a cold winters night midweek in late November

i cannot understand all these great reviews! Ordered for collection through Just Eats...what a mistake! Ordered medium and specifield no pieces of chilli in food. When I got it home not only was the food full of slices of red hot chillies there were also loads chopped up. The bhajis as Jason remarked on were flat, stale tasteless tiny pancakes. The mains were so chilli hot and mushy they were inedible. I rang the restaurant and was told they couldn't account for "personal preferences" and that ALL their curries came with at least two bullet chillies regardless of requests. As for the bhajis I got the usual, no one else has ever complained and people love them de dah de dah. He wasn't in the slightest bit bothered and tried to put the problem back on me. The menu does not state that the food I ordered contained red hot chillis. I requested a refund which was refused. I took it up with Just Eat who also refused saying that they are not responsible for takeaways not fulfilling requests. Also whoever heard of overwhelming curry powder in the egg rice!!!

We visited Shama as part of a work party to celebrate exceeding our Target. From the moment we entered we were greeted with exceptional service, by our host for the night, Viktor. Viktor's warm personality and his passion for his artwork made the time between courses pass swiftly. To complete the experience, the food was exemplary and portion sizes were generous - thankfully we were provided with an option to box up the remaining food to ensure such enjoyable food does not go to waste!

Lovely interior.good service with a smile. The kids loved their korma, their first visit, and now wants her 13th biirthday do there. I loved the lamb bhuna and sizzler starters.All in all a good do. And you can take your own alcohol tho they also serve pop for the kids.

First time here after hearing very good reviews from other people, glad to say that the food, staff and whole experience was excellent. Will definitely be coming back. Definitely one of the better places in Huddersfield. jang was a pleasure to be around and looked after us all.glad he’s back after a spell away

The only positive is the food but due to the lack of everything else the service was disgusting We walked in at 3pm and was one of the first tables to be seated in the waiting area, the table alone was absolutely filthy and hadn’t been cleaned from the night before. The bar was full of dirty glasses and one wine glass sitting right behind up filthy as well. We was shown to our table where the floor, stairs and table was dirty. The cutlery was filthy. We hadn’t at this point been asked if we wanted drinks so when the server came across we asked first if we could split the bills and asked for drinks. He said no drinks until I take food order, ok that’s fine but also wouldn’t split the tickets so we could pay easily at the end. He then came back with water, drinks and wine glasses, that’s fine so me and another guest popped our glasses on the end of the table, ready to use later. We had touched these glasses. The same server then came and took these glasses and gave them to a table behind us. We had touched those glasses and actually wanted to use them. It became very busy, it’s Mother’s Day it’s bound to be, we promptly had our pickle tray and starters. I had asked a waiter for the kids meal to be brought out with the starter. This was ignored. 1.5 hours after we sat we were still waiting for mains. We had to ask twice to which they said 5 mins and another 15 mins passed Food itself was excellent - no issues As the glasses were taken earlier, we wasn’t asked if we wanted more drinks I then asked for a glass, still now I’m waiting for that glass! I took my little boy to the ladies toilet. Mould and the wall falling to bits greets you on the way down. The toilet itself was so disgustingly dirty and the hand cleaner they were using was watered down. So either they did that or they haven’t been in there to check what stock they need. At this point we were rather annoyed and asked for the manager. He came swiftly over and tried to tell me the toilet was cleaned yesterday! The amount of build up on there including dirt and whatever else simply does not happen in a day! We explained re the server and he walked off to find him. He didn’t come back to the table with a resolution nor to tell us what he was doing to sort the issues. We went to the bar and the server said 10% discount we declined, at this point we were now so annoyed the manager didn’t come back one of our guests become a tad irate. The manager then came back and said sorry guys I can only offer 10% or you walk out now. We chose to walk out, I would happily go back and pay for the food but the service, cleanliness and overall experience was shocking to say the least! Wouldn’t return and would happily choose other places over this. I have only been to the Sharma a few times but this really needs some work! I do not see how they have a 4 star hygiene rating in 2019

Ordered a takeaway 3rd January 2023. Really disappointed as I ordered Lamb Kahrai which I ordered very mild and my hubby ordered Rogan ghosh medium . Both dishes were very spicy and very bland too. We had to throw away the curries as we could not eat them. We've been coming to this restaurant for over 25 years but this last year or so they are really going downhill. I sent the restaurant an email and they have not had the decency to reply back. We also ordered a takeaway a few months back and that was not upto Shamas standard but we thought it was a one off. We don't think we will be visiting Shama or ordering any takeaways anymore which is ashame

Went for Christmas dinner…what a mistake completely out of their depth filth bar area tables not set when sitting down no one had an idea what they were doing headless chickens is polite. Waiting staff with AirPods in no idea what or how to serve tables. Hour wait for set starters no cutlery no napkins toilets filthy.( food actually ok) gone are the days when this place was faultlessly run from drinks and orders in the bar by the manager then taken to seats when ready! Now it’s run by greedy kids who are no doubt ruining a family legacy avoid at all costs

this place is fantastic - the food is amazing, fresh and well made, comes to the table piping hot and well made. our server was amazing (ali) and incredibly accommodating to our requests (11 poppadoms and extra dips) the staff are really friendly and polite. will definitely be returning.

We had eaten in this restaurant on several previous occassions over a few years so decided to give them some business during lockdown. What a great disappointment it was. Food arrived luke warm, onion bhajis was like nothing I have ever had before, family naan was thick and rubbery and a lot of the meals went in the bin. Never again Sharma!

Over many years, I have eaten more Rogan Josh dinners that I could count but without a doubt, this was the worst. The meal was completely covered in onions and green peppers and not a tomato in sight. We drive quite a distance to this restaurant but no more. We have to pass more than a dozen restaurants to reach here and not worth the drive. Perhaps a different chef. Perhaps they don’t care anymore but whatever, it wasn’t good.

We have been coming here as a family for years now and its always been great. We thought with lockdown though we would give collection ago. We arrived at the collection time to find that it looked like our order had been forgotten. We were told to sit down for 5 mins as it would soon be ready though. 40 minutes lately we were still sat in a packed waiting area, which wasnt ideal with Covid. Like i say it has always been great previously, but either they need to have more staff on in the kitchen or reduce orders accepted, as with the current covid situation it is not acceptable or safe to have so many people sat waiting in such a small area for so long.

The meal was delicious and the service was first class. Very professional with all the safety precautions in place for covid. Our waiter, Jang, was superb! Brilliant place, would definitely recommend.

We are regular customers (usually on Sunday evenings) and are yet to be disappointed. Jang and his team are friendly and welcoming and keen to ensure that all guests have a good experience.The food is to be highly recommended and is always well presented and very tasty.Can't wait for our next visit.

Me and my partner visited here for the first time in months.We got told 35 minute wait, which is no problem.We got seated after around 10 minutes no problem, this is when the problems started, we sat for around 10 minutes before we had to ASK for a menu, then another 20 minutes before they came to take our order. Our starters came quickly, then the waiter asked if we had cutlery, which we hadn’t it took another 5 minutes for them to bring it. We then waited 40 minutes for our mains to arrive, and that was after asking where they were, Jang said they were coming then he disappeared.We asked for napkins none materialised, we asked for the bill and some wet wipes and at the time of writing this we are still waiting after 15 minutes.Yes they were busy and there were enough waiting staff, another family actually finished their starters before they had to ask for cutlery.Jang was more interested in flirting and sat with two women, what happened to social distancing, people were walking around and going to the toilet and out for a cigarette without putting a mask on.I won’t be coming back here in a hurry unless the staff step up their game, it was like they couldn’t cope with the amount of people there.

Food at Shama was fantastic. Jang made sure we were well looked after all night. All curries tasted different and each one as tasty as the next. Would highly recommend going for a Birthday as you always get a sing song with the whole restaurant joining in! 5 Star. First class.

We visit regularly, we're always impressed by the Shama. Such a lovely place to eat; the service from Mr Jang and all his colleagues is simply superb; their food is delicious - excellent all round. Quality dinning experience.

On arrival all COVID protocols were adhered to. We felt safe and appreciated and Jang Qasim left no stone unturned, full stop. To add to this, the food was exceptional and I’d challenge anybody to find a better chapati anywhere in England, Europe or the world! All said and done, go down, enjoy yourselves and have a lovely meal

Excellent service from Jang Qasim and the team. Perfect curries and chappatis you could tuck a newborn baby up to sleep in knowing they would be nuzzled into the finest chappatis on gods green earth. Honestly the chappatis...il go to bed dreaming of them tonight.

Just been for a meal here. The food is top class, good portions and value for money. Service is first class, particular mention must go to Qasim who looked after us so well. Very kindly gave us complimentary coffees and even offered a slice of cake! If you like curry this place is a must!

Nothing but impressed with the amazing food and service, I personally do not like singling staff out however it's hard not to recognise the one and only JANG with his shiny shoes and his amazing attire, his approach to his work is nothing but professional. He also recommended a beautiful curry for my fussy mother in law (you know how they can be) highly recommend and will definitely be visiting again

We have been regular visitors to Huddersfield for a number of years and always try to have a meal at our favourite Indian restaurant,Shama on Bradford Road.The food is excellent and the staff are always friendly and helpful.Our first meal out since lockdown was a few days ago at Shama and the necessary changes did not detract from our enjoyment.A special mention on this occasion goes to Qasim who was very happy to spend time with us.

Always come to shama, never go anywhere else! The service is always brilliant and tonight didnt disappoint. I had a special request for my main and Jang ensured my puri meal was just as I'd asked for. Until to tonight we always thought Janh was one of the managers here but when I said this to him he told me he wasnt. He always looks after us and remembers we have visited several times, which is always great to be welcomed so warmly. Will be back soon

Top night, amazing food and friendly amazing staff. Quasim who served our table tonight couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a great night and even threw in a free dessert for the birthday boy. 10/10

Went last night for ‘eat out to help out’ with my partner. It wasn’t very enjoyable. Very very noisy. Non of the staff seemed to know what was going on. Never got offered a drink, even though it was clear we didn’t realise we could bring our own as we were sat without one until the mains. When they brought the drinks they brought one and then we eventually had to ask a different waiter where the other one was. The coke was like water, not fizzy at all. Then for our main course I’d ordered chips to go with the curry to which the waiter said ‘they’ll be out soon’, they never arrived so i had to ask a waiter 10 mins later where they were and they went to get some. The food wasn’t great, there was no spice to the curry at all. Glad we went when it was half price as I would be very annoyed if we’d have paid full.

Visited twice now and on both occasions it was very nice food and excellent service with very friendly staff we have booked to go again our daughter has booked on our recommendations thanks to all the staff

Please don't waste your money or time or health and go elsewhere!Came here with family and left with food poisoning, not to mention my brother fell off his chair as the chair leg was broken, the toilets were disgusting and the food for an Indian was so tasteless.. there are much better Indian eateries to eat at, at much less price!

We have been frequent visitors to Shama as a family for the past 12/13 years and have highly recommended them to friends. We went for a visit last night at 7:45pm, on arriving I noticed how dirty the glass was on the entrance door, this made me open the door with my back rather than touch anything. We received a warm and friendly welcome as usual and showed down to a table for 2, we were seated on a table that hadn't been cleaned however this was rectified immediately. The tables are well spaced out for social distanced dining so that's good. We did wait quite a while for our food but we were chatting away so didn't bother us. After our meal which was ok... I paid a visit to the ladies and was shocked at the state of them! I wish I'd have taken my phone in to take pictures! They were filthy! The toilet bowls were actually stained brown! Down the side of the toilet was dirty toilet paper and had clearly not been swept or mopped in a while. The sinks and the tops were dirty and the floor well it was sticky!! In all the years of going to Shama I have never seen them in such a state. I informed the lads on leaving they tried to tell me they had been cleaned yesterday!! Not in a million years. I actually felt dirty and disgusted on leaving so much so we will not be returning for a long long time. Social distancing yes it's sorted but not the cleanliness!! Think AJ, Ash and Billy would be appalled to see it in such a state.

On Thursday ( as lockdown eases) a friend And I made an impromptu visit. The respect for safety amid the virus was evident, yet the greeting and setting was still warm and ambient - the food was great and Jan was friendly and attentive, whilst remaining distanced and safe- well done Shama

Lovely food and very relaxed, the extra measures in place due to covid are really well executed. I've been to many restaurants where i've ordered the same dish on different days and the results have been massively different on each occassion. The best thing about the Shama is that its very consistant and you can guarantee that if you like a certain dish, that dish will be the same when you order again. Consistantly brilliant! :)

Yooooooo this place wicked! It is head and shoulders above the rest an the best! Service is on point no complaints about waiting for superior quality food. The staff are friendly don't hover and will tend to your every need without a problem. By far the best in Huddersfield and surrounding areas. Big shout out to man like Adam
