Nice meal and good service, despite being extremely full and busy for Euros match. Good food and sensible to reduce menu for busy night with huge crowd in garden. Luckily we had booked a table and were impressed with the service and food.

Went for a drink in the garden, on 14/05/2021 in the afternoon. Had to wait to be seated despite only 3 other tables. Watress was too busy playing with a dog( hygiene). We waited that long we almost went elsewhere. Stayed for 2 drinks then had to wait to pay because again she was playing with dog( hygiene). Such a shame the first time we had been out since October 2020. Lovely garden area they have invested a lot of money, now they need to focus on customer service.

We visited as a family for a birthday celebration on Wednesday evening. The pub is located in the beautiful little village of Harbury.Firstly, the COVID-19 restrictions were abided to with a simple one way system in place and table service for food and drinks. The staff were friendly and attentive and accommodated slight changes to the menu for the picky members of our party without issue. The drinks orders were plentiful and we were well looked after. My only complaint is a positive one. The menu is simple and without explanation and did not represent the fabulous food that was served. I can highly recommend the fish and chips; the batter on the fish was light and crispy and melt in the mouth. All the food was superb, it was hot and well presented and demolished! We had a really lovely evening. Definitely worth a visit. A wee gem in a little village.

Booked this for a birthday meal. Meal was okay, normal pub food. Service was shoddy and whoever the woman behind the bar was, well she was just plain rude! The bar staff kept making drinks incorrectly, for example: gin and tonic no ice, and oh look, there's ice in it! They forgot to charge us for a drink, and considering that was their own fault, the woman then came over and spoke in a very accusatory tone, and was extremely rude in the way she barked at us.We had considered having our wedding reception there... Definitely rethinking that plan.

The building itself is old and full of character, it's an interesting place just to look at and be in. Large TV, log fire, piano, board games. My husband and I celebrated our wedding at The Shakespeare Inn on Saturday night. Right from our initial enquiry on hiring the venue Helen the owner was so welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. We could tell she wanted to make sure we had the most perfect evening. Nothing was too much trouble, she had lots of fab ideas and was even open and on board with some of our strange requests! The night went so smooth - even with the amount of people we had attend! All the staff were fantastic. The buffet was great - and so reasonably priced for the quality of food. There is a great range of drinks available. The venue itself is also so beautiful. I did a bit of decorating but it has so much character and charm I didn’t need to do much. Could not have asked for a better venue to have our reception at and we are so grateful to Helen and the whole team. Will definitely be coming back regularly for their amazing Sunday roasts! Thanks again xxx

Decided to treat ourselves to lunch at the Shakespeare in Harbury, but that turned out to be a mistake. For £8.95 you get one slice of meat and soggy overcooked vegetables - saving grace was the generous amount of roast spuds but the yorkshire didn't look homemade.Next time we'll go back to the Crown for their much better carvery.Steer clear - we didn't stay for desserts, especially not at £5.50 a pop!

We booked a table for Sunday lunch; unfortunately the roasts were off due to there being a wheelbarrow race (which was rained off) so we had to order off the main menu. It was the usual selection of pub food including lasagne, chilli, pie, fish and chips and a selection of burgers and steaks.Despite the neat and tidy appearance when we arrived we were underwhelmed with the welcome we received and continued to be so throughout. My wife had the chilli which was bland and watery and the sauce in my pie (not a real pie - a small casserole with some dry puff pastry dropped on top) was too salty. There were some nice touches but they were spoiled by a lack of attention to detail; we were given some plastic cutlery for our two year old which was good but they hadn’t been cleaned properly. It’s a nice building with parking and a garden to the rear but it seems that the staff don’t appreciate how good it could be with a bit more care.

Myself, my daughter and grandchildren decided to have lunch at the Shakespeare as the menu looked good. What a bad decision that turned out to be! It took quite a while for the ordered food to arrive which would be acceptable if the food was worth the wait! We ordered two children’s meals, both had sausages, one with chips and beans the other with chips and peas and both turned up with mash and gravy instead of chips as ordered. The children’s meals were changed but both came back with the same sausages in the same gravy! The children’s chips were covered in lots of salt and I mean lots! My daughter ordered a Gammon which according to the menu is a thick cut, a thin cut Gammon arrived which was overcooked, poor quality and inedible! The chips with the Gammon were also covered in lots of salt! I ordered a toasted gluten free cheese and onion sandwich, a bap arrived with cheese and onion inside, the bap was partly toasted but none of the cheese had melted and there was no heat in the sandwich but it was edible. The bap arrived with some crisps which turned out to not be gluten free and were replaced with a portion of chips which, of course, were like all the others, heavily salted! I also had a stater/side order of Halloumi and choritzo, all the choritzo was burned on one side and the Halloumi was like rubber! We were given 20% off the price of the inedible Gammon. The bill for this food, after deducting the 20% and excluding drinks, was £30!

We were staying at a local caravan site and decided to try one of the village pubs. This pub from the outside looked very clean and tidy and in all fairness it was inside. We were the only customers but we weren't concerned as it was only 6.00 pm and they had only just started serving food. We ordered a lasagne and a pie. The pie was ordered with chips but came with mash, they said it came with red cabbage but apologised when it came with cauliflower cheese, but my husband decided to just eat it. Not impressed as the meat and the gravy in the pie was not good. I had a lasagne, it was awful, the meat and the sauce had a very strange texture and didn't particularly taste of anything. I will admit that I asked my husband to have some so it looked as if I had eaten something. In true brit fashion when asked if all was ok we just said yes and left. We've had some good and bad food over the years but this was well down the list. This pub has great potential and is beautifully clean and is massive, with a lot of tables but when we left there was still only 1 couple in the whole place.

Just tried a Sunday Roast, £9.95 each, cold, hard frozen veg, mash portion was measured in an egg cup and was cold, pre-bought Yorkshire pudding was cold, couldn't get my fork in the parsnips and the pork crackling was soggy. One of the worse dining experiences of my life, I've cooked better on a camping stove. My advice, bring your own butties or eat before you get here and save your money. It's a shame that we'll never try any other food in here after that experience.Owner was in earshot when we paid, waitress apologised but that was it, no credit, no senior member of staff apologised, no offer of a refund, can't see it's life expectancy being too long.Shortly after sending our food back the 'chef' came out of the kitchen to have a laugh and a joke with the bar staff, having been a chef I'd have been too embarrassed to venture out of the kitchen after serving up two plates of inedible rubbish. We were hopeful of having a Christmas dinner there this year, thank God we found out before we ruined our festive meal.Such a disappointment! We'll never return, would never recommend and would tell people to avoid if possible.

Five of us had a very disappointing sunday lunch today. Traditional roast dinners contained a few roast potatoes which tasted non homemade, the yorkshire pudding was flat and meat portions were not generous. One person had the salmon dish wish was even worse- a small bit of salmon, a handful of re heated soft new potatoes and and 1 veg, definitely not a sufficient portion or quality you expect for a £10 roast and a pub which was previously known for its good food and friendly service. We're saddened that somewhere we would have actively recommended to friends and neighbours seemed to have lost it's spark. We won't be returning in a hurry.

Sadly it was empty, but when we mentioned this, a plate of melted Cheddar arrived. The accompanying fries came in a little metal bucket. This was rusty, dirty and foul smelling making the fries taste horrible. When we mentioned this we got a half heated "Sorry" but no adjustment to the bill. The mackerel salad at about £11 was very meagre - just one sliver of makerel. I had roast beef and Yorkshire pud. This was first rate. Lots and lots of very good roast beef, and, by special request, some pork crackling. So, one out of three.A pity because with a little care they could have got full marks. But not this time. Service was slow and poor ..then we were informed they had ran out of chicken !! and pulled pork ,!! the food finally arrived well almost they had forgotten one main A SALAD !! which they said wasn't ready because they had had a busy day so we waited for that to come .... when we finally received our food it was very nice so front of house had let the kitchen down Big Time . also we were not asked if any condiments were required or if our food was ok during the meal ... unlike the other table that were eating at the same time what a disappointment wish we had gone elsewhere !!!!!!!!

Three of us popped in for an evening bite. Warm welcome from landlord and attentive service from landlady. Two of us had the racks with salad and coleslaw, and one had the Juicy Lucy beefburger. All three of us thoroughly enjoyed our food : it's not cordon bleu but it certainly hit the spot and the bill was quite reasonable. Would we go again? You bet we would!

Booked a table for the wife and I, and were greeted by Alex who was funny, warm and well versed in the food and drink served. Although I'd had a steak the night before he sold the Tomahawk steak to me, with minimal effort. There are lots of options for sauces, sides etc. When the steak arrived I was gobsmacked. A beautiful piece of meat, probably the size of my car cooked exactly to order. A lot of places overdo steak so I always order it slightly rarer as a contingency but it was spot on. Melt in the mouth beef. I went home very happy, and very full. Getting a tomahawk locally is a struggle, unless you pay through the nose. For £30, we had the steak, sweet potato fries, garlic butter and slaw. Great vvalue, great food, great staff and great place. Compliments to the chef. Awesome. Will be back if I know these huge steaks are a permanent thing. Cheers!

A small family group had a Friday evening meal at this pub and we really enjoyed the good food and friendly helpful service that was provided. They cater for gluten free eating. In fact almost anything on the menu can be altered to be gluten free. Such a refreshing attitude. I had also had lunch in the pub a couple of weeks earlier and again was given great friendly and helpful service and good food.

Under new management since late summer, and the place has definitely changed for the better. Had a brilliant night there a couple of weeks ago. Food was top class, their 'BBQ Smokehouse' inspired menu is great fun with a good range of quality choices. Love the "Build Your Own Burger" approach where you can mix and match burgers, toppings, buns, the whole lot. Between us had ribs and burgers, both of which were excellent. Service was really good too. Nice range of beers. Kind of like one of those trendy London BBQ/Burger eateries but in a country pub in Warwickshire. Definitely worth trying and we will be visiting again soon as there is so much more on the menu we want to try!

We walked from Harbury Fields caravan park in to Harbury and visited for a quick pint. Received a really warm welcome from the owners/bar staff. Sat in front of the log fire, nice pint of Doombar, didn't want to leave. This is only the second time in the pub, and both times were very pleasant experiences.Wasn't in the place before the new management but the new management really seem keen to make a good go of it. Really nice feel about the place. We will be back.Would definitely recommend

Strangers to the area, we went for a Sunday morning walk nearby and tried to find somewhere for Sunday lunch. The first three places were fully booked, so we were slightly wary about the Shakespeare having spaces. Actually, we had struck lucky. The staff were very friendly. The menu was one of those where there are too many nice things. Between us we had nachos, wings and Camembert for starters, then smoked ribs, roast pork, roast beef and a burger for mains. All were excellent, as was the lemon and blueberry cake for pudding. The Phoenix Gold and the other beer whose name eludes me were good, too. It was dog-friendly, with one of the staff very interested in and knowledgeable about dogs. If we get the chance, we will definitely go back.

I came for a quick stop off and found that the pub was under new management. The smell of the food going round the pub got me intrigued enough to ask for a menu. The applewood smoked pulled pork was incredible. Apparently they are looking to develop this idea a touch further which is very good news. The team on the bar were delightful to speak to and the food was even better.I really like the fact they have upto date programmes from the RSC in stratford too, this shows they respect the nature of the old world pub and the name, The Shakespeare.Delightful find

What a difference a lick of paint and staff who know how to look after customer makes to a pub. I first visited this pub about three months ago (checking out local places for significant others birthday meal) - it was a quick visit as the vibe, staff and cleanliness did not suit me (and certainly wouldnt suit 'er indoors)!Popped in last week as i'd heard a new team had taken it over and wow - what a difference. Clean, warm and friendly pub, locals and visitors, dogs in the bar, fire lit.Menu looked really good with a focus on BBQ / Smokehouse. Subsequently we went back on Friday night for an informal meal out to celebrate the end of the week. Great food, rocking atmosphere (again) and good beer.Plenty of parking and the garden looks like it'll be a winner in the summer. Will definitely be returning (regularly!) - Good luck to the new owners!

It seems that the new management have made a huge impact by providing a warm welcome, great service, and fantastic food at the core of their business. We visited on a Friday afternoon for lunch, and had lovely sandwiches with home cooked chips which were quite simply the best I have ever tasted. Everything was well prepared and served, and the ingredients were excellent quality (Freshly grilled chicken, Avocado, and bacon). Some other customers across from us ordered the home cooked burgers with Brioche buns which looked incredible, and were beautifully presented. I would be happy to recommend this pub to anyone, as I would with the other great pubs in this village. To the new owners/management keep up the good work !

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here. We hadn't booked - which was a bad move in Leamington Spa and the surrounds as we found out - having been turrned away from other places. This pub came up on my Around Me app on my iPhone and luckily they were able to squeeze us in even though they had a big Christening party to cater for later on. The food was delicious. The best pub Sunday lunch we have had in a long while. All three of us had the roast pork belly - very generous portions, beautifully cooked and served with a great selection of vegetables. Just what my son needed after the half marathon he had run that morning in Warwick. A lovely village, a very friendly and welcoming pub - a great discovery.

My wife and I found this pub quite by accident. I assume that the landlord is different from the one described in earlier reviews as the staff tonight were superb. The beer was excellent and the food even better! Prices were very reasonable. My wife had a chicken dish from the specials list and I had gammon. Both dishes were plentiful and beautifully cooked and presented. There is a lovely country pub feel to the place, enhanced in the evening by subtle lighting from table lights. It was well heated and we enjoyed sitting by the real log fire. A lovely relaxing pub in which to unwind. We shall be returning many times me thinks!

I came here with the Stratford Ramblers as it was their lunchtime stop and we had permission to eat our own lunch either inside or outside which was very good of the management. I didn't eat here obviously but we bought drinks so a review seemed valid enough. The pub is attractive inside and outside. I'm not local but would definitely visit again.

We had very adequate lunches here today; a jacket potato with ham and salad, and a piping hot beef chilli with rice. No complaints about either the food, the quick service or the price. We intend to eat here in the evening after a local walk with some friends/ex-colleagues next month, and we have high hopes for a good evening. The menu looks varied and appetising.
