Shacks Fish And Chips in Highland

Well if you want absolutely rubbish customer service this is the place for you, I went in 26 may 2024 at 4.22pm, neon sign in the window saying open. When I went in I was surprised to see the place deserted, not one customer. Now some background, I was travelling back to Skye and I have had a Doner Kebab before that was very good. So today I though of taking one for my son and one for my wife back. After a couple of minutes a red haired young boy appeared from what I assume is the office, as he approached he said hello and I responded back. I said to him could I order 2 Doner Kebabs for takeaway, he rolled his eyes and said it would take 20-30 minutes and would I like to wait. My brain struggled to see how making up 2 kebabs would take so long, thought about it for 10 seconds and said ''no way, really that long?''. at that point the guy responded by saying ok and promptly turning around and walking away. So If you want you hopes dashed by ordering food that will take half a hour, this is your place, I am not going to say what I have done in the past but if I took 30 minutes to cook 2 takeaways, my boss would have got rid of me long ago, I would expect a sit down meal to take 20-30 minutes in preparation as a maximum. Bonkers, who ever owns and runs this Fish and chip shop really needs to up their game. When I got back to Skye I told my wife and she reminded me of a time before when she got her dinner from the same shop and it took best part of a hour and there was 3 other couples all waiting, all tapping their fingers, Fast food it isn't, Good food it was but I cannot comment on that as I never got any.

Good food and fast service. Great place to have take away. We stayed close by and easy walk back to our place. Pizza has no marinara in it but was still so good.

One problem here, inexperienced staff. The staff at this fish and chip shop do not have a clue how to run a takeaway. The flow of orders cooking, packaging and service is all wrong. May I suggest that the owner hires an experienced operator as the whole place isn’t run very well. The shop looks as if it cooks to order but only one order at any given time, with a 25 min wait and only 5 orders completed. Fish was cooked at too high a temperature crispy on outside mushy inside and dried up flakes of haddock. Chips were fine but scarce for a large £9.50 Batter was peeled off to reveal dried up fish. It is a pity there isn’t an experienced operator as the ingredients looked good. People get to know of where to buy a good fish supper ( especially tourists ) and will pay premium prices. But I’m afraid for this establishment because the locals won’t be enthusiastic about it.

Batter was old. Chips were old. Soggy and tasteless. And to top it off - the guy working there was sitting on the food prep counter as we left. Why I even put this near my mouth I do not know.

Ein sehr gespaltener Eindruck: die Bedienung (Schuljunge?) war schnell und freundlich, der Küchenbereich wirkte gepflegt. Der Fisch (Schellfisch) war o.k., aber auch nicht mehr. Leider waren die Pommes jedoch ungenießbar (sahen schon vor Ort sehr pappig aus und schmeckten leider auch so); drei von uns vieren haben nicht mehr als zwei Stäbchen gegessen, der Rest wurde entsorgt (was wir nur sehr ungern und daher auch nur sehr selten machen).

Two of us had fish and chips. The fish was over cooked and the batter was a thick gue on the inside. The chips were average. One had pepperoni pizza which was basic but lacked much pepperoni. I'll be avoiding and using the chip shop in Fort Augustus or Beauly. Avoid.

Got 4 pizzas from here 2 x margharita and 2 x meat feast pizzas and 2 bags of chips. Chips days old and reheats and tasteless, pizzas NO tomato sauce! 😠 is Margharita not supposed to b cheese and tomatoe??? 2nd visit here for a takeaway and tried to give them the benefit of the doubt as first night we arrived got 2 x fish suppers. Again tasteless, dry chips, thick batter, not crispy and full of oil. Avoid at all costs.
