Lovely café, serving very good restaurant-quality food. The people in the kitchen know what they're doing! One of our favourite places to eat in Swanage. Lunch is served 12pm until 3:30pm, can be worth eating a bit later to avoid the rush.

Beautiful views from inside and outside the cafe. The food was hot and tasty, and staff very friendly/efficient. For me it ticks all the boxes for a great cafe. Well behaved dogs welcome too. Be warned though the car park has licence plate recognition whereby you pay at pay station when you are ready to leave. Just don’t forget!

Well we had another good lunch at the Seventh Wave. We booked a table as usual and it was ready for us when we arrived. I chose the large fish and chips again and it did not disappoint. The portion size seemed even bigger than last time and it was all cooked to perfection. The batter on the fish was particularly nice! My wife had the fish cake special which she thought to be also very nice. The food was hot and served on hot plates so it did not go cold too quickly. The service was excellent, quick and friendly, the food seemed to come within in minutes of ordering. All very nice and good value. What’s not to like.

We were disappointed with the fish cakes. Essentially they were potato, couldn’t detect fish. The spinach consisted of a dozen or so very wilted sorry looking leaves. And the dish was overpowered by a warm tartare sauce. Apart from the above the views are fabulous.

Following a walk in Durlston Country Park, my partner and I decided to pop into the Seventh Wave Restaurant and Cafe for a quick hot drink. On entering the venue however, we observed and were enticed - both by the menu to actually sample some food. We are so glad that we did as the quality and taste of everything we ordered and ate was absolutely top notch!! The food we ordered was excellent, tasty, authentic and made to great standard. No frozen pre made food that you often encounter in cafes from this establishment!! All the ingredients in Seventh Wave's dishes were fresh, the portions a lovely good size and all the components of the dish were delicious. The value is excellent for what we had added to the lovely serving staff, my partner and I really enjoyed our experience at this establishment. In fact, we were so impressed, we actually made a point of returning the following day to have another meal.

We booked a table for three to have lunch on a Wednesday. We have eaten here many times before so knew what to expect. Good service and hot food is the order of the day here. The table was ready when we arrived and we ordered without delay. Two of us had the large fish and chips and it was better than ever. A large piece of battered fish with chips and peas and all nice and hot. Our other diner had one of the ‘specials’ of the day which was a chicken and leek pie. Lots of chicken, bacon and leek in the pie. It had a nice light pastry top. The accompanying vegetables were also very good, kale and carrots. Again it was all nice and hot. We ended the meal with three cappuccino coffees and yes again, nice and hot. There are a lot of restaurants that could do well to come here and see what this restaurant does well on a daily basis. They may learn something! So to sum up - good hot food and good service. I have no hesitation in awarding it 5 bubbles.

I called in to the castle for breakfast and asked for a full English without beans. The meal turned up and looked good but the piece of sourdough toast was so small that I went to the counter and asked for another slice as I didn't have any beans. The waitress went into the kitchen and came back a couple of minutes later followed by an older person (who I later found out was the manageress) who told me with a snarl that "we don't do swap outs. It quite clearly states that on the menu but I can sell you a piece". I thought how mean. It wasn't as if I wanted another sausage, just a piece of toast in place of the beans. Just think what a little goodwill would have achieved instead of me spreading the word of poor customer service !! And while mentioning sausages, they are rubbish. Everything else appeared to be good quality but when you are paying top dollar, you would expect to have a local sausage !!

The restaurant is within Durlston Castle. There is easy access on the flat and a lift if required to other levels. The staff are pleasant but very strict on ordering times for food i.e breakfast is until 11.15 precise and ordering lunch is not till 12 noon.you cannot order lunch even 5 minutes before.Dogs are allowed in the restaurant which has inside and outside seating. We had the small fish and chips and they were very hot and delicious.Downside is that the toilets are below the restaurant where there are steep winding stone steps to them or there is a one floor lift.Toilets are ultra clean models in and ancient castle.

We visited Durlston Country Park today to enjoy a nice walk and enjoy the views. We decided to have a coffee before we set off walking, but sadly our experience in the cafe completely ruined the day. Ordered two hot drinks and cake, but then made the fatal mistake of having them in takeaway cups thinking it would be easier and safer due to the cafe being packed with children. Once sat down with our drinks and cake a very rude member of staff came over to inform us that we shouldn’t be sat in the cafe area because we had chosen to have our order in a takeaway cup. She told us we would have to move if other customers wanted to use the table and there was nowhere else to put them! Well of course half way through our order, which wasn’t any less in price for a takeaway cup, she came over and told us we needed to move. My husband told her we would have a proper cup instead to put our drinks into at which point she told us we couldn’t and had to move. When I asked why we needed to move when we were paying customers who had paid the same as everyone else she told me it was “policy”. I checked the website and found that the picnic tables she was telling us to move to are for customers who bring their own food and drink. When I pointed this out and asked where the sign was that made clear couldn’t sit there because we had food purchased from the cafe, she told me there wasn’t one but that they are busy. To make matters worse this lady was the manager! While the place is lovely, the very rude woman who made a complete show of us in front of all the other customers, completely let it down. Even the couple at the table next to us were completely shocked by her behaviour. We will never ever return to cafe again, I was so embarrassed and made to feel like I was doing something wrong when we were paying customers like everyone else sat at a table.

An amazing environment with lovely natural interior light, thoughtful decoration and glass panels listing names of growing things. From what looked like a really good menu we all had the soup, an interesting mix of squash and goats cheese. Really needed a more seasoning and tasted a bit 'earthy' Warm Ciabatta didn't suit me, so I was offered bread and was a bit disappointed as it was processed, white sliced! New staff, new menu, new prices BUT same magic. I was very pleased to visit the restaurant on Saturday with my son, and under not so happy circumstances today for the gathering after a funeral... but on both occasions, the experience was very positive...AND they've got a team with "Oomph!"+ "Spark!" - I've also reviewed this identically under "Durlston Country Park" because the Cafe is an important part of the whole Durlston Park experience. Interestingly, the parking was cheaper than I expects (£2 during the week at the time of going to press, and you can get some of that back if you spend over £20 in the restaurant). It really is a great place for all the family. The restaurant even welcomes dogs... (though I guess that's a mixed blessing!!!)

With son and family visiting us for Christmas we decided to return to Durleston Castle as we had such a great time there in the summer. The weather was bright winter sunshine and the sea was almost a blinding, sparkling blue - Swanage at it's very best. There is so much to see and do at Durleston Castle, we visited the globe, the caves, the exhibition and every interactive attraction possible (granddaughter was bowled over with the Rock Room and it's spotlights which illustrated everything found along the Jurassic coastline). Then with tummies rumbling we headed for the SeventhWave restaurant where hubby and I had enjoyed a delicious fish meal sitting outside in the sun on our last visit. The setting is perfect, the view was mind-blowingly gorgeous and we could see the Isle if Wight very clearly. The menu was extensive and very desirable but as we were going out to dinner later we chose simple dishes this time. Granddaughter (aged ten) had a simple bowl of chips whilst we girls had the most perfectly cooked and presented Foccaccia I've ever eaten. The men chose Ham, Egg and Chips (beautifully presented although a slight criticism would be that the thick slice of succulent, home cooked ham was just out of the refrigerator which was a shame - a quick flash in the pan both sides would have made a big difference). The poor car driver couldn't partake in the delicious Sauvignon Blanc that we enjoyed, but he loved his cup of English Tea. On the way home, chatting to my granddaughter about the day and what we'd seen and done, I asked her what was the best thing about her first day in England. Her answer was immediate - the chips! She absolutely raved about them and said they were the best in the world, much bigger and miles crispier and not as straight and boring as the ones she gets at home in Australia. Well done Seventhwave restaurant, you made a little girl's day - and isn't it wonderful to know that your chips knock spots off Aussie chips!

We ate up at Seventh Wave, just two of us and had a lovely homemade soup of tomato and basil served with crusty warm bread. We also had a prawn cocktail to share with dressing on the side to save afew calories.Who am I kidding.?we saw some lovely lunches being served so rang round and five of us went up a couple of days later.Itvwas a wonderful sunny crisp ,cold day and the views were wonderful.we all sampled the fresh fish ,plaice and also fish and chips.Really beautifully cooked and served attentively.we were actually very full but I managed to persuade our friends to sample the choc brownie and the coconut slice that as everyone was really full I was able to take more than half back home for later! Result!really enjoy a ble company and good food.great eh?

We had an evening meal here in November and it just didn't quite live up to expectations. The staff were polite but missed a few things and it was hard to get their attention sometimes! The food was good but too expensive for what you get I'm afraid. I prefer smaller portions but this was too small. I think maybe lunch during the day with the views would make it more worth the trip, otherwise it's a bit lacking in atmosphere.

A truly outstanding fish restaurant. Incredibly fresh lemon sole with a free glass of wine (an excellent and generous Sauvignon) for £11.50 was excellent value. Cooked to perfection by staff who genuinely care. In a world where every dismal food outlet in the UK claims to have staff who are ‘passionate about food’ it comes as a refreshing surprise to eat at a place where this is actually true! Spoke to the boss who described their commitment to ethically sourced local fish. Seventh Wave have gone into this in detail and really take it seriously. Hugh Fernley W should beat a path to their door!Oh, and by the way, Seventh Wave has one of the best sea views in Europe.

This restaurant is in Durlston Castle which is a lovely spot. The food is a little pretentious and tends to be quite expensive when compared to other optional places in Swanage. Lunch is okay (but don't have the "ploughmans" as they are very mean with the portions- ham OR cheese!) but you ought to book as it gets quite busy. Expect to spend around £15 for an average lunch.

Four us went here 'by accident' for lunch - the restaurant we first went to had gone onto winter hours and only opened in the evenings. We were (pleasantly) surprised to see it nearly full and were afraid we wouldn't get a table, but the Boss man immediately cleared some paperwork from the table where he was having a meeting to make room for us. Pleased to say that the food was as good, or better, than our first visit nearly a year ago. My crab linguini (from the specials) was fantastic, and my wife was delighted with her sole fillets. Our friends had fish and chips and a burger, and they were very happy with theirs. The staff were really pleasant and helpful, and considering that the place was virtually full the wait for the food wasn't too long. We had an interesting chat with the Boss, who apparently is still struggling to overcome various hurdles as he tries to set up a small unit outside the castle, to provide simple snacks and drinks for park visitors who don't want more substantial food indoors. This something that lots of people want, and that he wants to provide, but it's not that simple ...Overall our experience was as good as, or better than, our first visit, as the systems have bedded in and staff are more experienced.

Not really a restaurant as you have to queue at the bar to order. Caters for tourists and walkers. Had a steak burger with chutney and chips, which was excellent. My sone had the kiddies pasta, which looked a bit watery, but he loved it. The children's fish a nod ships was delicious, really fresh fish, which they keep in a case in the dinning area.I had a pint of locally brewed beer, who's name I can't remember, it was awesome! You have to pay and display in the car park.

We recently had a lovely meal at Seventh Wave restaurant. The restaurant is located in Durlston Castle which has been recently refurbished to a high standard. We were particularly impressed with the walls inside the restaurant which are covered in glass with inscriptions of all the thousands of plants & animals that have been found at Durlston Country park - something we have never seen anywhere before. Worth a visit if you are looking for somewhere a bit different. Great views across Swanage and beyond in the daytime.

We booked well in advance and had a table set for lunch at the Castle. This went perfectly. Good food! Especially the mushroom pancakes that I had.. Durlston is just one of our favourite places for walks and now the restaurant is added to the pleasure. If you forget to pay at the car park they put a polite reminder on the windscreen. The gallery space is well used for exhibitions.

My partner and I hadn't visited Durlston castle since it had been refurbished and we were pleasantly surprised at how well it was finished. We both like fish and had lemon sole served on new potatoes and runner beans. It was excellent. There were no deserts but the proprietor agreed to warm up some Dorset apple cake and serve with ice cream. Again delicious. The bill with 2 gasses of wine came to under £40 for the two of us. The car park machine was broken so I couldn't claim a refund of the parking ticket from the restaurant! The terraces have fantastic views and I can imagine during the summer it is wonderful. Service was fast from the young staff. When we visit again we will book a table with a good view and check what fish is available to order.

The setting of this restaurant is the best in Swanage. The views are fabulous and it's also a really nice walk up there from Swanage (if you're not wearing heels!) The three course menu is really good value and although there is not a massive choice on the menu it didn't make the decision any easier as it all looked delicious. The starter was just the right size portion for me as I always like a starter that makes me want to eat more and doesn't fill me up, the main was yummy too. I was then too full for pudding but had a liqueur coffee instead which ended the meal perfectly. The service was great and the icing on the cake for me was that we were booked a taxi home that was courtesy of the restaurant, what a great idea!

Refurbished Durlston Castle beautifully done. (Not a real castle but Victorian gentleman's residence) Great views fron terraces. Work done to exceptional standard. Do go to have a look around. Restaurant has to be all things to all men. Breakfast things until 11.30 am. Teas & coffees all day. Lunch menu Panninis to expensive mains. She had crab linguine for lunch & thought it was excellent. I had small fish & chips & had worst hard chips I have ever eaten & believe me in 66 years I have eaten a lot of chips. The menu tends towards the fussy & pretensious & I am not sure chefy is quite up to it. Bit of a dark location for dinner in winter evenings. Do go along & try something . Interesting walks all around. Take lots of change for expensive car park. (refunded by restaurant if you spend £20)

The walk to the restaurant was an excellent start to a lovely evening. The locally caught fish dishes had lots of flavour. I'm pleased I chose the mussels as a starter because there were plenty, unfortunately my wife's starter of fish cakes looked tiny. The plaice for a main course had fennel with it - must try this at home.Staf were brilliant - friendly, quick and helpful. It might cost more than the legion for a pint, but look at the surroundings and you can see why - well worth the extra cost if it keeps away moaning baby boomers who expect something for nothing.

I was fortunate to be treated to a birthday meal here, my first visit since Durlston Castle has been expertly restored as part of the Jurassic Coast experience. The dining room is located to give sea views and at night the lights of Bournemouth twinkle in the distance. The walls are furnished with illuminated panels of the thousands of species to be found in Durlston Country Park. The menu was not large (I think usually a good sign) with local fish well represented, as well as meat and other dishes. My starter of mushrooms with a tarragon sauce on brioche, with a poached egg was perfectly balanced for flavour. For main course I had honey-glazed pork steak which was delicious. To finish I had triple chocolate mousse, which suited my sweet tooth, but might be too sweet for some. The price was £20.50 and that included the taxi ride (just a few minutes) back into Swanage. If you approach the castle from the car park, go through the geological time walk, each stride represents 25 million years, so you'll have worked up quite an appetite - it's not far really. Well worth visiting for the setting, the delicious food and good service.

If you are in Swanage don't miss this restaurant as the location, view and interior are stunning. We have been here many times and always found the service very good. The fish dishes are very good perhaps slightly pricey but you are paying for the atmosphere and breath taking views. In Summer lunch on the terrace with 360 view of beautiful coast is a must!

I recently got married in Swanage and our wedding breakfast and evening party were held at Durlston Castle. We had our sit-down meal in the Restaurant 'Seventh Wave' and our party in the Gallery downstairs. The food was absolutely superb and they catered for everyone's needs. The staff were warm, welcoming, friendly, helpful and when asked to do something or find something out, did it straight away, espeically Jodie and Matt. James, the Restaurant Manager not only managed the resutaurant brilliantly but also agreed to announce us into the Restaurant which was really nice. Marc the chef did an amazing job of creating the dishes we had discussed and everyone said how wonderful the food was.The evening party matched the excellent service we received during the day. A friend went out of her way to say "I asked for Rose Wine but the barman said he only had Red or White, then about 10 minutes later he came and found me sitting with friends and said "Madam, I now have a rose wine behind the bar for you". She said he went above and beyond. We were very lucky with the weather and had a fantastic day. The venue is second-to-none and the wedding photos prove this. Fantastic Castle, even better views, Brilliant service, delicious food... Couldn't have had a better day... AND they give us a card and a bottle of Champers as a wedding gift. Thank you Durlston, it was a fantastic day.

Whilst spending a wonderful holiday in Swanage on the Dorset coast we decided to try the newly refurbished restaurant Seventhwave which is in Durlston Castle. The castle has been totally renovated and is wonderful. The restaurant is very tastefully furnished and the staff are very polite.A new menu was offered on the night we went and it was a three course meal for a fixed price of £20.12. The choices were good although limitedThe food was beautifully cooked but the portions were tiny. They brought us complimentary bread with the starters but I had to ask for more as the portion was so small. I had crab and crayfish fish cakes for my starter and they were minute but lovely. My husbands starter was much better- mushroom with a poached egg. Guess I just chose the wrong thingThe other problem we had was finding the telephone number to book a table. We made a special journey up to Durlston to get the tel number but there was nowhere outside where it was displayed I had to use my mobile phone to get the number and it cost a fortune. However having said all that it was still a lovely meal and the ambiance was good I just had to fill up with cheese and biscuits when I got back to our holiday accomodation..

I love Durlston Castle & was eager to try this place. We walked the Coastal path having skipped elevenses so arrived around 1.15 hungry and thirsty. The place was busy but very disorganised. Seat yourself is fine on a slow day but it wasn't suitable on this weekend lunchtime. We waited 15 minutes outside for a table then ordered afternoon tea for two. Got two pots of tea and waited for the food. 35 minutes later my husband went back inside to ask where our food was. Ok he got an apology and more tea but then we got food we had no cutlery or plates! Apparently we were supposed to pick those up inside but nobody told us.Really disappointing, expensive too so not surprised locals are giving it a miss.

Short break in September 2012 walking along cliffs, stumbled on the castle for lunch. It was an exciting find! Perfect fish & chips, amazing burgers, wondrous cream teas! So good even though we were only on a short break we came back the next day and did it all again. Helpful staff, great venue, indoors or outdoors. If you're visiting Swanage or thereabouts you must go to Seventh Wave in Durslron Castle - you won't be disappointed.

A fairly late review - we ate here in January an dit is now September. However, it was memorable enough to add a review - really good food in an excellent location. This was out of season, and we were surprised that they were open in the evening, but were not at all disapointed.Seeing the other reviews it seems they have kept things going well through the summer - we will certainly be going back....and the newly refurbished castle site is amazing. If you went here in previous years and were disapointed try again now and you will be impressed

My wife and I went to the Seventhwave restaurant at Durlston Castle for a special meal to celebrate my wife's birthday. We went with some trepidation, as we had read other reports, but we often have drinks there and think it is lovely.I reserved a table with a scenic view (it looks over Peveril Point in Swanage) and we selected our meals from the limited fixed menu (with daily special fish dishes). The food was beautifully served on wooden and glass plates/ dishes and was some of the most delicious we have enjoyed for some time. We both had the rump steaks and thought they were by far the best tasting ones around. Not sure what makes Thrice- cooked chips special, but they were also excellent. For dessert, we both chose Eton Mess, which came with a separate home-cooked meringue sitting on top. Slightly different, but superb! For £20.12 each (plus drinks), we couldn't think of anywhere that could match it! We'll definitely be going there again.

Met friends here for lunch. Lovely setting and all our meals were very enjoyable. The organic salmon and cod were cooked beautifully, and both dishes were accompanied by fresh leaves and tasty lyonesse potatoes. The Greek salad and fish and chips were also said to be very good. Portions were not overly large, but for us that was good. Huge platefuls we find off putting and often quality can be sacrificed for quantity. The service was friendly and the wait for the food was only that to be expected if food is freshly prepared.

What a gem of a place. Happy friendly staff, who couldn't do more for us. We booked a table of 7 but had an extra person turn up and it was no problem. 3 vegans and a dairy/nut allergy sufferer, but so much choice, and help from the staff to find the right food. The portion sizes were insane and the cakes were out of this world! Cannot rate highly enough, we really enjoyed it all. Can't wait to come back (if you'll have us, sorry for the chaos)!

Very pleasant setting and the service was friendly and efficient. We only wanted coffee, which, although very good, was probably the most expensive for miles around. Other items on the menu were also not cheap. We would probably look for better value elsewhere next time.
