Sekkoya in Canterbury

Was horrible experience start to finish! We were a large group and had pre-ordered. Pros Chicken biryani Chicken lollipop Sea bass Sides are big could share between two Waitresses were polite Nice selection of drinks Cons Service was terrible! Took an hour (pre-order) before starters even came out. Took half an hour for drinks to come after ordering Food was awful! Starter: Papad and chutney - popadom tasted weird and came with a table spoon of sauces (raita, chutney and another hit one) Seekah Kebab - taste and texture was horrible! Chilli cheese toast - disgusting Mains: Butter chicken tasted like defrosted chicken cubes in a bowl of Heinz tomato soup! Fish soup - looked like breaded deep fried fish in a bowl of soup. Was disgusting. Sides: Masala chips came out freezing cold Nothing came out together and some people were waiting for sides to come out for a while after their mail came out meaning it got cold. Some dishes never even arrived at the table Really poor management We tried to complain to the manager a few times but he was avoiding the table. When it came to the bill (which was initially over £700) we said we weren’t paying for the food a) we didn’t received b) complained about and didn’t eat! The atmosphere was poor as we constantly had to ask “how much longer” or complain about so many things. Lots of hungry people waiting to be fed at a table booked at 8pm - you can imagine how many hangry people there were! Such a shame as the venue is ideal as is the actual restaurant itself! Anyway, I would avoid until they change the menu and management! Another friend went the night after me and got the butter chicken and said exactly the same about it tasting like a tin of soup with chicken in it! I’ve added a picture of the butter chicken 🫣

Ordered a take away and the portion is the smallest I have ever seen and massively over priced for what it is I’m going to have to order food from somewhere else as well. The food is standard not worth the price tag. Avoid

In one word shambles! The food was one of the worst I've had in a restaurant in a long time. Went with 15 friends and family and most of us didn't eat much of the food. I had 'fish curry'. Battered fish!!! In a curry cold chips, butter chicken which was in tomato soup!! Dry, taste less chicken. It was awful. Plus side the waitresses were first class, just feel sorry they had to bear the brunt of our complaints

Lovely place …atmosphere was very welcoming…spacious yet intimate. We was greeted by a very friendly happy female member of staff and seated straight away. After a few minutes the manager/owner introduced himself and gave us recommendations and listened to our requests. Although not a huge menu the food quality was fantastic and reasonable too. First time as this restaurant but we will 100% be returning when next in Canterbury.

From the moment we walked in, to the moment we left, the restaurant was so noisy with blaring music, that we could barely hear each other to have a conversation, let alone hear our waitress. Cocktails very bland and watery. Food okay, but dishes sounded much better on the page than they tasted. Floor was sticky throughout. Service was decent, food not quite as terrible as Grace Dent would have had you believe but completely unmemorable. Level of noise was interminable. Didn’t bother with a pudding as we couldn’t wait to leave.

Wonderful restaurant! All the staff were absolutely amazing from start to finish. The manager was an absolute gentleman, The food was delicious and the cocktail I had was divine! We will definitely be going back again!

Me and my husband have visited this restaurant many times and we will continue to. We are yet to try a bad dish and we have been treated with excellent service from all members of staff especially our waitress, Kim. She has served us every time and been exceptional every time we visit. We will be returning again soon and look forward to eating here again!

Context of this night: Valentine's Night <3 I myself was attending a blind date set up by my parents - scary! To begin with, walking into the restaurant was a surreal experience, I felt as though I was upgraded to a higher social class ... LOL. This very much impressed my date. Ive also got to say the staff were unbelievableeee! We had our order taken from one of the most enthusiastic and patient waitress ive ever met, she was a delight. This waitress (Mia) had almost assisted in breaking the ice lol, with her kind smile and friendly service I almost forgot I was on a date with another lady - shocker! Overall this restaurant is a great dinner location and an excellent experience. Many thanks to all the sekkoya staff, and yourself Mia ;)

Great place for meal with friends - very attentive team with Mia in particular providing excellent service. Recommend for either food or a drink to enjoy the restaurant atmosphere

Fantastic experience. We were a group of 8 and they moved us to a more secluded table to allow us longer than the allocated 2 hrs. Food was delicious and cocktails fabulous. Staff friendly and service very prompt. 5 stars can’t wait to come back.

Superb service beautiful venue menu a little hit and miss. Steak was amazing as were the prawn dumplings and chicken skewers. On the flip side the ribs and pork belly’s were bland and seemed undercooked. Really attentive staff very proud of the lovely venue. I can’t give it a 10 though if the food is not on point

Stunning restaurant! Came last night for some food with a few friends and were very pleased! Everything is cooked fresh and brought out in good time. The location is great for parking and has other bars/restaurants within a stones throw! perfect for pictures!
