Lots of special offers but all terribly small portions. Not good quality. Sausages ate dreadful. Oh, and that old chestnut, they ONLY TAKE CASH! HRMC need to review their ' books' !

Called in for a quick and cheap dinner, Large fish regular chips £7.50 which is I think on the cheap side compared to other establishments nearby.. They were ok at best, but I felt compelled to give it a positive review based solely on the positive attitude shown by the young lady who served us. She was friendly and personable and had a great work ethic we feel sometimes a pleasant attitude should be rewarded. So well done to her

Worst place you can go to in Cleethorpes. Fish was slimy, chips ans batter tasted of old fat. Cleanliness was poor. Not recommended.

We visited Seaway on Saturday 27th January 2024, having used this fish restaurant somewhere between 4 and 6 times a year over 10+ years and have always found the service and quality to be perfectly acceptable. However last Saturday all that changed. We placed our order at 1250, for 4 lunches. After 35 minutes my wife asked the waiter where our lunch was. He went to check and said they were just putting it up now. After a further 5 minutes (now 1330), I asked where our order had got too as he had already told us they were putting it up. He responded saying they were short of staff and they had run out of Jacket potato's. so were having to cook one and that all orders were being cooked to order as they weren't that busy. Our order finally arrived at 1335. The chips on both meals that had chips were only lukewarm., the curry sauce was cold and the fish and nuggets were not hot. We complained about this straight away and the started to look at the other meals. The single fish order was not hot and the jacket potato (smaller than a tennis ball and costing £6.50) that we had waited 45 minutes for it to be cooked, was so cold it would not melt the spread and the grated cheese had not long been out of the freezer as it was still frozen in the middle, the foil on the jacket had been wrapped wrong with the shiny side out. While we were finding this out the waiter returned to say that we could either wait for a replacement to be cooked or have the money returned for the meals. We agreed to have the meals refunded, and were then informed that it would only be for the first 2 meals that we had originally questioned. I informed him that nether of the other meals were edible he told us that as we had not made it part of the original complaint then he said we had accepted the meals and it was our problem. After some discussion he then refused to return any money. I then asked to see the manager or supervisor in charge and was told that he had left for the day. I then asked for him to contact the manager by phone in order to be able to get a resolution. During my discussion another group requested their money returned as they had waited 30 minutes and not received their meal. They agreed to pay for their drinks and were refunded for the food. the waiter then said that we could contact the restaurant on Monday and speak with the manager. My wife then said if we were given, the money back for the fist two meals then we would leave and take the matter up on Monday. Monday has come, so I telephoned the restaurant at 0900 and then every half hour until 1100 when a female answered and informed me that neither the manager or owner was in but was due any minute and he would ring me. I rand again at 1130 and was tole that he was busy and would phone me as soon as he was available. I phoned again at 1200 and they said he would ring me but they could not confirm if he waw still on the premises or not, but that he had been passed my number and would ring. It is now 1345 and still no return phone call. It has since transpired that this morning when a spoke to a female, she asked if was in relation to the diabetic on Saturday, to which I replied, no,

I parked the car and stayed with it while my wife and son went to get fish and chips. What they returned with was terrible. I ordered a large fish & chips, what I had was a kids portion at best. The fish was like it had been sat a while, most of the tail end was inedible, just greasy bits, the flat chunky bit was about 1cm thick, wish I had taken a photo at the time, the chips were undercooked and again greasy. What was left on my medium tray was some of the oil, which was yellow - suggests to me that it is not replaced as regular as it should. Come on Seaway, you are in a prime spot at the coast and serving rubbish, 'cash only' is that a tax problem? Go to Papa's on the pier and see how and what you should be serving, I shall not be returning!

Visited on Christmas Eve afternoon. Beautiful food. Excellent service. Ate in the restaurant, it was clean a d the young lady that served us was very courteous and helpful.

Can't even describe how horrible this food was. Order 2 fish and chips the fish was off, the chips were reheated that much they were just crispy filled with oil. The peas were put into a microwave in a big box and mixed with water and the curry was dirty dish water colour and as thin as water, my friend got sick from it! Vile

Probably the worst fish and chips I have ever had, thin sliver of fish coated in a super oily butter that was barely edible, The chips were like traditional chip shop chips they were more skinnier and majority of them were hollow inside with no potato, I don’t even know how that is possible, Super oily too, I asked for salt and vinegar and Lady barely put any on so quite a bland meal throughout

Went here for some late lunch, near the seafront. Wasn't busy at all, service was super quick. Good bits end there I guess. Sadly something was mega off here, I've had a lot of fish and chips, I'm not huge yet (amazing right?) but boy that was the worst fish I've had and I have had some real crap. The batter was fine, could have been crispier but it wasn't terrible. The fish though tasted like it had been washed, which is the only description I can really give. Almost like it had been put in the sink with the plates and soap. My chips could have done with a minute in a microwave, they weren't hot, they weren't cold. They were those weird stage of chips where sauce might fix it, but you'll have to deal with the coldness. I probably won't go again, the plate of food looked proper appetising, but the taste was beyond worrying. We left quite a lot to be honest. Serving lad was fine, nothing wrong with service, but it was just upsetting that food would come out like that.

Lovely food and generous portions. Friendly staff. Decent price and clean.

Came here on a hot day and wanted to sit inside for some shade. Absolutely gutted we chose this place! Poor service from start to finish. Forgot one of our meals and no apology. Food basically chucked on the tables by the young lads. Very very expensive also. Chips undercooked, gravy awful, fish not too bad but not great. I think I would rather of queued somewhere else in the blistering heat. Avoid this place.

Worst Fish & Chips we've ever had.My Wife & i took our grandkids to Cleethorpes for a day out & decided on fish and chips.The first chippy we came to was Seaways & since there was no one queueing we decided to order 5 portions of takeaway fish and chips and sit on the seafront to eat them.The fish was suppose to be Haddock but it was just fish skin & batter and a portion of undercooked chips.All of us hardly ate any of the meal which ended up in the bin.We we're left very disappointed with our choice of Chippy and when we later passed Seaways there was no one ordering but all the other chippy's were busy.We should have looked at the Trip advisor reviews but unfortunately we didn't.

The reason of being so critical is that the fish and chips simply came as “batter and chips”. After reporting to one of the staff they took the plate away, then came back with the “batter and chips” then said “would you like it to be replaced”. I think the staff could do with training, if something is wrong with a plate of food then the meal should be replaced without hesitation. The food was replaced in the end with fish that was under cooked missing the sides i.e curry and peas. These were then replaced a couple of minutes later when asked again if the condiments needed to be replaced too. I don’t think it’s worth a 45 minute wait, so if there’s a que at Papas then wait

Fish and chips is a nice portion but don't get enough side(sauce) The fish is two scaley and off putting, had better fish before.

Its very average quality fish n chips, only cash, so def they scape from paying tax but then they are not cheaper! Also as a few more ppl mentioned in commrnts, they leave the skin on the fish, i have eaten more than 100 fish n chips in skegness and blckpool , its the first time i saw skin on fish which makes it hard to eat, i hope rather than replying and defensive they change their process

Can tell they batch cook and leave in the warmer all day. Dined in the restaurant and everything was dry and bland. Not interested in giving a refund just offered a replacement of identical quality.

Ordered 2 fish and chips to split between myself, my husband and 2 small children. We anticipated they were big portions and we were correct. Lovely food (my kids didn't rate the fish but I don't think they were used to the taste or proper seaside fish and chips!). The chips were gorgeous - I was tempted to go back up and order an extra portion! Quiet inside. Nice clean toilets. Only issue was that we had to carry my son's pram up a full flight of stairs which wasn't ideal. We couldn't see any signs of it being accessible but there were a lot of people standing outside so difficult to see.

Burger are that hard you could break a window with them chips were cold only good thing was a cup of tea

Had fish and chips this lunchtime, they are the worst we have ever had. We had a small haddock, the fish was barely in existence, it was mostly batter. Chips not too bad. Will never ever go there again.

Teenage staff messed up order. Manager then demanded more money. Was going to pay and was trying to explain to the owner? What should happen as a business owner. He got extremely angry and shouted, pointed his finger and swore at me in front of all the other customers not only humiliating himself but me also. Not to mention this all happened in front of a 4 year old child. He then stepped around the counter and squared up to my husband. DO NOT GO HERE. Crooks that closed down for fraud! Aggressive male bully screaming at a woman. Bet that’s how he treats his poor wife also. We are locals not tourists. Can’t wait to see your failing business goes under. You don’t deserve to be a business owner.

Seems to be a lot of negative comments about seaway, our experience was nothing but positive We took out grandkids for a day out, some fish and chips and a ice cream, myself and my wife had fish chips and peas, grandson had the same but with curry sauce and our granddaughter had chips scampi and peas, it was all delicious and great value I might add We will definitely visit again

Terrible had a day out at Cleethorpes thought we would try somewhere different for chips huge mistake, Chips far far undercooked when had 3 or 4 the rest went in bin £4 wasted never again, Back to Papas next time.

We visited Cleethorpes on 31-07-23, the warm welcome by the front staff was outstanding the same with the gentleman in the restaurant, it all made it up for the rainy day. The young lady is an asset and her customer service can't be marked lower than 7*, thank you very much for the service and the welcome. The restaurant was clean the food was hot and nice all in all 5*, we will return.

The restaurant was DEAD,we were there only ones in. That should've maybe been a warning! The food arrived within two minutes. The fish and chips were dry and hard and the mushy peas had been sat so long that they were discoloured and had developed a crust. The youths serving were unattentive and disinterested. This place is horrendous, first of all all 4 of our meals had problems , the sausages and fish looked like it had been sat for hours , the josh was brown and was only battered on one side , then when we asked to speak to somebody about it , a young lady came out and was extremely rude saying it’s not her problem she didn’t fry it then we asked if we could get some money back for the Fish and the prices were extortionate too she then came back out saying we can’t have a refund she then continued to flag us off as we walked out , rubbish customer service and rubbish food!!

Great fish'n'chips. Eating in the adjoining Seaway restaurant comes with a surcharge, so if you don't mind take-away to eat outside, it's much cheaper. Overall, it's all cooked in vegetable oil and i was told halal. Will definitely be visiting again!

We visited Cleethorpes for a school trip and had spoken to Mr Sabir, the owner, on the telephone and by email when planning our trip. We brought 138 primary aged school children and 22 adults to Seaway for a late lunch. The service we received from Mr Sabir and his friendly staff exceeded our expectations. The food was good, the service quick and efficient and the restaurant was spotlessly clean. Thank you from the staff and pupils of Newton Primary School.

Requested a fish without skin and prepared to wait. My request was refused. It was only when you crossed the road , found a bench and opened the small carton I realised why.The skin is needed to hold the the slither of fish that is served,it was not particularly attractive or appetizing. The longest chip was about an inch long and very greasy. The best part was the peas but you only get a tablespoon full.Looking at the waste going in the bins I was,nt alone in my view. Well I know for next time. Ignore the prominent position and window shop to find the best quality and portions.

We have used this fish and chip shop for years. They have always been good quality and generous portions.Not any more.As we unwrapped our meal liquid ? grease was spilling out and over our clothes.I had fishcake, chips and mushy peas. It has never before been served with dried up mushy pea "gravy"slopped all over it.This made the very small fishcake and the even smaller portion of chips soggy. The peas had congealed all over and under the food, so I couldn't even get a forkful of them, and the whole meal looked like a green mess.It was only just luke warm, not piping hot as it usually is.

Went today treated terrible. Took my elderly parents as disabled access to the rear. I had to go in to ask to put the ramp down as far too heavy to do myself.I then asked if my parents being 80 and 90 could have mini meals even though it wasn't on the menu. The young girl asked another colleague and she said yes no problems.We sat down staff were milling about so I then asked if we could order after ten minutes no one knew who was taking orders. Other two staff were eating in the dining room.I counted a total of 10 people in the dining room so it wasn't busy and mini meals are offered on the takeaway bit. So a girl took our order a few minutes later she returned and said we can't have the mini meals as it's not stated on the menu even tho I was told I could before sitting at a table. So my reply was I have to take my parents outside sit them on a bench just to get a mini meal from your take away!! (Yes she replied)I then asked to speak to the manager I explained to him about my parents being elderly and a three year old who do not want huge meals. His answer was we do not do mini meals unless under 12 so I replied fine I will post my experience on here as Disabled and Pensioners are Not Welcome!!! I have visited Cleethorpes for many years and before my dad needed a scooter to help with waking we always ate at Seaways well No More!!!

Oh dear! Last night in Cleethorpes, we’ll treat ourselves to some fish and chips- bound to be great being just next to the sea! Very disappointing. Chips all soft, pale, flaccid, stuck together. They had just dumped on the mushy peas which made everything more damp, soggy, sticky and generally non crisp. Fish was slightly better apart from how soggy the mushy peas had made it. Some lessons in how to cook nice chips urgently needed! My own fault- I should have read the reviews. Only myself to blame. Best avoided.

I got this afternoon, Friday 30/07/2021 one fish & chips and one fish on its own, from seaway in Cleethorpes, for my self and my wife. The fish was not nice at all, it had uncooked batter, it was too greasy to the point that you can’t eat it, we tried to eat it but we were just eating grease. The chips was also very very greasy and very soft.It is very bad place it didn’t deserve any value at all.

The fish and chips were very tasty. Flaky, white cod in crispy batter . Very good value for money , too . I especially liked the small portion offered ,which was ideal for an elderly companion.

Can't comment on the fish (my wife had that) but the chips weren't particularly hot and they were really greasy. Also there are signs up saying "cash only".......why ?? Even the ice cream van takes card payment these days. Won't be going back.

Absolutely appalling staff! We cannot ever remember anywhere where the staff have been so 'brain dead' and totally dis-interested in serving customers. The young staff were all gathered in a huddle lounging on the counters looking over at the waiting customers. It took ages for one to leave the pack, then when she did take the order, it arrived without our peas that we ordered. We reminded the member of staff who went back to leaning on the counter. Nobody moved again. I had after 5 minutes of waiting, shout across the restaurant to get someone to move out of their huddle. They brought the peas then we could start. Our meals had already started to go cold due to waiting.We heard clearly one member of staff taking an order at another table say "f**k sake I've got to do the whole order again now!" when the customers decided to change their choice. I'm sorry but that is totally unacceptable! Sadly the wait wasn't worth it either as the meals were pretty bland. Not sure how old the fish was, but I'd bet it wasn't fresh-which is ridiculous considering they are next to Grimsby Docks. The restaurant wasn't particularly clean and the toilets worse! We passed by the front of the restaurant later on in the day and saw a couple coming out shouting back at the staff "Your f***ing useless, we will never come back here!". I stopped them to ask what had happened. They had sat there in the restaurant for 20 minutes and nobody had taken their order, others had come in and been served-but ignored them. There was only 7 other people in the restaurant when we were in there, so not exactly 'rushed off their feet!'.If the owners ever read this review, I'd suggest they look long and hard at the LAZY staff they employ up in the restaurant......they are systematically destroying Your business. Should have known really 3.00 for fish and chips vile we left the lot I might has well have gone co op and bought oil and drank it came to 10.00 for our order and even tho that’s cheap for fish and chips x3 especially at the coast utterly disgusting felt sick after no way was we letting out child it that crap. To top it off as well customer service was horrendous

Never go there again. Was a tray of grease chucked it in bin. Rude service. Even my three year old said it was horrible.

Bought food for the three of us and asked if they could fill my dog’s water bottle. The less than cheery woman behind the counter refused, saying ‘No, but I’ll sell you a bottle for a quid!’.Her reason for doing this had absolutely nothing to do with Covid restrictions when they’re accepting cash only (because that’s hygienic!).The food we received was poor: both the fish and chips were incredibly dry.With so much competition in a seaside town, a little effort with customer service goes a long way. Also, why cook masses of food only for it to sit under the heat lamps?Will not be visiting again.

Went in the takeaway, when I saw the mess on the floor in front of the counter, squashed chips should have put me off, this takes seconds to sweep up!! Miserable assistant, chips luke warm and scrappy and not cheap. Won’t be returning and certainly won’t recommend
