Seafarers in South Lakeland

Don’t bother wasting your money at this fish and chip shop. No cod available at 6.30pm. Haddock was dry and very small. Like no haddock I have had before. Small overcooked fillet with Greasy batter. Chips weren’t nice either. Mushy peas tasted different to any others too. This was the only choice as the other fish and chip shops were closed. Reading other reviews I’m hoping I don’t have any after effects! Left most of my dinner.

We were at beartrix potter, passed this chip shop on way back to car, Fishcake and chips twice £13-40 Wish we hadnt bothered, Chips were absolutely terrible, worse ones i have had in a long time, Fishcake nice, but was cooked fresh. Over half the "chips " were thrown away , they were all bits. Overpriced and rubbish food,

Nothing special but not too bad. A little hectic with the staff getting confused with others and them bickering with each other. With the mad rush we barely got a sprinkle of salt and vinegar so was a bit lacking in flavour overall. It's not bad but dont go expecting the best chips. Regular chips was £3.35. Card only.

Low review as not taking cash and server wasnt listening to my order, kept talking to the other staff. We had haddock and chips, was ok.

Three of us had fish & chips today, and so far two have vomited and the other not feeling too good. Thankfully our young grandsons didn’t have the fish.

Very nice food here. We had fish and chips, along with sausage and chips, and both very very tasty and not too greasy. I would definitely go back here again. Food was freshly cooked, which hit the spot.

Ate here before (last year) and remembered it as being friendly, so we returned today ... and it was just as good as we remembered. The fish was really good quality, cooked in a very light and lovely crispy batter - served quickly, despite the queue and some very loud and uncouth customers with their awful kids, by pleasant happy and helpful staff - and although the chips were absolutely terrific, the portion size was a bit on the large side for me. We've tried the other Bowness chippies and this is by far the best in my opinion and I would certainly recommend it. I don't recognise the content of some of the negative reviews here - in holiday destinations I expect to pay more than in my local eateries, but this is definitely the best available in Bowness, and the batter is to die for. I suspect that those reviewers who whine so much are probably unhappy wherever they go.

Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Please go elsewhere , don’t waste your money. Fish was thin and tasteless, chips reheated and the oil tasted like it’s never been changed. Most of ours went in the bin. I usually read up on Tripadvisor first before going anywhere, I didn’t this time and that was a mistake.

Ordered medium fish and chips £11.25 turned out to be very small fish ! The choices were small, regularand medium no large on offer so went for the dearest. Goodness knows what size the other portions were as they were cheaper. The chips were ok there are other fish and chip takeaways in Bowness with better sized portions for your money.

Fish and chip shop closest to the holiday camp we were staying on and proved to be so good there was no need to look elsewhere.

Ended up here as none if our first three choices had cod on the menu and I'm afraid they weren't great. Very small piece of fish to be called a regular portion and not good quality. Previous reviews were a bit of a mixed bag but have to agree with negative ones.

Underwhelmed for a second time. Been here twice once a couple of years ago, was nothing special then. Had another go last week. I had pie and chips, partner had fish and chips. I agree with some other posters that portions are small and I personally thought chips were a bit soggy. Nothing special really.

Expected a medium cod and chips but when I got home I found out it was a child size portion not happy. It shows a 4* rating… I don’t think so

Really not worth the money. We paid £30 for a takeaway from here. It was the worst place we stopped for food whilst in Bowness. Very bland chip shop food, hadn't heard to HP sauce, the portions were small and not enjoyable.

Charged us £22.40 for sausage & chips twice and a bottle of coke (it should have been £14.90 - which is still extortionate). We waited 15 minutes while they served everyone else in the queue. When I asked when we were going to be served the person who took the ordered had forgotten they had taken it! They then asked us for £14.90 again and accused us of not paying in the first place. I asked for a refund and they refused. They wanted to see proof of a bank statement! Well...here it is! Shoddy food and rude staff. AVOID!!!

I visit here every time I’m in bowness- it’s the best. I was recently up with some friends and took them here to get our evening meal, we all loved it, everything was absolutely perfect. I’ve read some of the other reviews and am a bit baffled, i visit a lot and it is always really really good and the staff are always so friendly and nice.

Shocking service from the rudest staff I have ever encountered. The attitude towards customers was abysmal and discourteous. Small portions, chaotic service and sub-par food. AVOID

Food was greasy and dry. Chips tasted like warm ups. Wish I had read the reviews before trying this place. Will definitely avoid in future. Staff came across as rude too. Should have gave vinegars a try down the road 🤣

I asked for a large fish and large chips which was 8.15 n mushy peas , for some reason I got charged 10.80, not the same price as their menu online , should have been 9.15 , the fish n chips was small, so gosh knows what their small fish and medium fish looks like , the fish was very greasy , wouldn't go there again , a complete ripoff.

Our family placed a large order. We were all disappointed in the food, the only nice thing was the sausage. The food was very expensive for the portion size and quality. The large fish were less than half the size I expected and fit in a small chip tray. The chips had lots of black bad bits on them. Wouldn't recommend.

I have given two stars as me and my partner ordered a regular fish and chips and paid for sauce. The fish and chips was ok/average but not worth the price they charge. The lady serving forgot to give my partner the sauce he paid for and when he was waiting patiently behind other customers who were ordering she rudely said ‘what do you want now’ Since arriving at this chippy the lady’s attitude was very rude from the start from witnessing how she interacted with the lady’s in-front of us in the queue. The way she speaks to her customers is highly unacceptable which is a shame.

1 of the worst chippy's we have ever visited, the fish was dry woth soggy batter, the chips were undercooked and tasteless, for the price it was a waste of money will not be returning.

Myself and my partner recently had fish and chips from here. We also had some mushy peas and curry sauce which was the best we have ever tasted. If you want some fish and chips whilst in the area, this is well worth a visit.

Excellent adherence to Covid regulations, with separate ordering and paying hatches with no need to enter the shop. The service and quality was first rate and this is undoubtedly the best fish and chip shop in the area.

Busy but welcoming , good sized portions and fresh. Was very welcome after a long walk . The six of us all said we were very happy with the food here and went on our merry way. Thank you guys keep it up .

This delightful family owned restaurant cooked an amazing Cod & Chips. It was perfectly fried, crunchy on the outside and moist/tender on the inside. The price was very reasonable. And the service was warm and friendly. They helped made our trip to Bowness-on-Windermere memorable.

I have visited this fish and chip restaurant more than a few times this year and the welcome and friendly greeting never changes. Always met with a smile and really well cooked food. I have probably tried most of the menu and yet to be disappointed!!!!I very strongly recommend that you include this place on your visit itinerary

Ferry was fun . Beatrix Potter exhibition was great the children loved it . Seafarers is a very good fish & chip shop & the staff were lovely . Unfortunately the only let down was the Park Dean Fallbarrow site

I am not a big fan of chips but we decided to stop at this place as my son was hungry and this was near. This was the best chips ever and curry sauce was delicious. It's run by the friendly family and service is really good, staff was really nice every thing was nicely priced.I would definitely come again.

We stumbled past this chippy whilst strolling around Bowness and in need of some sustenance, staff were friendly and helpful and the food for a chippy was pretty decent and we had no complaints. We sat outside to eat our food.

We called in after visiting Beatrix Potter. The staff are very friendly and the fish is excellent and very fresh. The place is very clean and tidy. Would recommend highly.

Been coming to Bowness for years and have always made sure to pay a visit to Seafarers. Food is always great and good value for money. Staff are always very friendly and ask how your day has been - they even remember you if you’ve called in a few times during the week which we thought was really nice of them considering how many customers must pass through their door.

Pasamos junto a la gente de mar en nuestro camino desde el aparcamiento y se veía bien; una mesa disponible afuera y un dosel en caso de lluvia. El pescado y las patatas fritas eran muy buenos, las patatas fritas en particular eran mejores que las de mi local.

Haven't been for years, decided to get some fish and chips to take back to caravan for evening meal. Everything was cooked fresh for us, quite reasonable price for the area, and very tasty indeed.

They don’t even accept card payment, it’s like going back to the 20th century! Didn’t even get to try the food as couldn’t pay.

We always choose this Chip Shop when we visit Bowness, the food is always hot and fresh, the portion sizes are perfect.

Ordered 2 portions of fish and chips today and one chips with curry sauce. Oh and some mushy peas. The fish was fried freshly as we ordered. It was all very tasty. The portions were not huge, but were good enough and the price is at the high-end for fish and chips. However, given the location this is not a surprise.

So tasty we had it two days in a row!

We popped in here for some chips as we were staying at fallbarrow caravan park. The chips were so bad that we had to put them in the bin. Soggy and greasy, they were obviously cooked in dirty and cold oil. Not recommended

Although not a expert on these places I have to say it wasn’t the best, soggy chips, average pies and very expensive to boot. The curry sauce was nice though.

Our fish and chips were made to order, it didn't take too long and as well as tasting fantastic, there wasn't a bit of oil residue. The batter was crisp and dry and the fish cooked perfectly.

No he estado por un tiempo pero recordé que fue excelente la última vez. Pedí un pequeño bacalao y papas fritas para mi esposa y para mí. Esperamos un poco mientras cocinaban el pescado y, cuando estaban listos, nos sentamos a pesar de que estaba un poco fría. Los recuerdos volvieron a inundarse mientras los dos nos metíamos en nuestras comidas. El pescado fue cocinado a la perfección con la pasta muy sabrosa agradable y crujiente y las patatas fritas eran simplemente la perfección. No me puedo quejar de nada.

We visited Seafarers fish and chips shop after my partner recommended it to me, he had been working in Bowness and been there a couple of times, so last Sunday we were out and about in the lakes and called to get some fish and chips,, I was actually surprised it was open as it was around 7pm on a Sunday evening,. The opening times are 11.30-9.30pm 7 days a week.!

Had a craving for fish and chips by the lake. Short walk to the shop with seating inside and out. Crispy batter and chips that aren’t greasy. Bonus. Thankyou (:

Just my personal taste, but I like my chips a lot crispier. Disappointing to see a polystyrene container used for just a portion of chips when a few layers of paper would have been perfectly adequate.

Visited twice on holidays for kids tea. Both times I asked for kids portions and was told I could not have it as they did not have any so ended up having to pay for the larger fish

Lovely chippy tea. Nicely cooked and good value, a suprisingly quick service (I've waited longer in Mcdonalds).

Oh boy, these sausage and chips were good :) ...just what we needed after an afternoon/ecening sitting in the beer gardens. A wee tip only to improve...you need to offer salt n broon sauce al lah scottish chippy style :D sachets of sauce just don't do it for us scotchies....

Was staying in Bowness and wanted something to eat on a low budget, the food was freshly prepared and was of good quality with an ample portion size.

This place is near Windermere car park. We stop there to have evening snacks. I ordered fish cake which was really nice.

It's so unusual. Typically we end up leaving most of the batter, many of the chips and just eating the fish when eating fish and chips from a chip shop. Too often, the batter is overly heavy, seemingly to disguise a too small portion of fish inside.

Me and my partner were staying for the weekend, we were looking for something quick as it was pretty late.

Whilst this chippy is a very short walk from the tourist centre of BOW and is near to the BP thing it’s not the obvious choice indeed it’s almost out of sight.

Very good food freshly cooked and value for money small seating area at the front which is an added bonus

Went here for lunchtime chips. Freshly cooked and curry sauce lovely. Not greasy and so much better than the other place down the road. Freshly cooked chips and kids loved it..eat in or out or takeaway..Great.

Went to place a large family order. The service was outstanding and the quality of the food was exceptional.

I initially went to try another Chippy but that was closed, even though it was only around 9 pm and at the weekend in a tourist spot. Anyway, we entered and were greeted with a friendly smile and we then ordered a number of fish and chips and chicken as well. The service was swift and the price reasonable. The fish and chips were really great as well. Overall a nice little spot if you want to indulge in a British classic. Also much better than Vinegar Jones down the road, this would be my preference anyway, especially as the people were also much friendlier at Seafarers.

We have been visiting here for many years when staying nearby. Its quality and freshly cooked. I love it :-)
