Really enjoyed my food. Was really tasty sea bass dish with couscous cous and other meals were nice as well. However, at £50 a head you have to ask was it worth it and the answer is no. There was also a £3 surcharge for a cheese dessert which is a bit cheeky. The main issue I had was with the service. There was no atmosphere in the restaurant as such until it got busier and our table was up near where they all stand as people come in. Just felt we were being watched the whole time and then just as we finished our courses someone was in your face taking the plate away. This is great service it’s fast service. Not what I want when I’m out for a meal. We did enjoy the bar afterwards as well so rates 4 as whole experience was good, but some serious issues to tackle which would prevent me returning.

We weren't using the fishing facilities but used the area for long walks. Our room was on the ground floor with a pleasant view of the garden and the beach beyond. It was spacious and light with a comfortable bed and a great bathroom with bath and shower. The food for dinner and breakfast is exquisite and the service from beginning to end was faultless; friendly and efficient. The public areas of the hotel are restful and quiet with a lovely open fire. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Richard and staff were extremely helpful with anything and everything you could possibly need. The food was out of this world and the fishing was incredible. Hotel is extremely clean, with a perfect blend of originality and modernism, along with well kept grounds. 30 seconds from a convience store, 30 seconds from a fuel station, and right in the heart of the hills. Thanks very much for such an excellent experience and escape from reality. Liam & Liam

We stayed here whilst touring Northern Scotland. The hotel is in a lovely location, helpful staff, bedroom was a good size with fluffy bathrobes and towels. Although it was June it was quite cold and there was no heating in the bedrooms although they had a fire lit downstairs. Also there was no TV in the bedroom and the food was okayish.

The place to stay in sutherland. We spent a week in June with our two little terriers, who are happy to sleep in the car whilst we had breakfast and dinner in the beautiful dining room. The rooms are fresh, well kept and provision of a roberts radio and drinks facilities add to the ambience. I cannot believe anyone would want to stay in the northern Highlands and want a garish TV a la Premier Inn here. The lounge is a classic country hotel vibe with beautiful furnishings. The staff are chatty and professional. The essence of Scourie hotel is that travellers communicate with each other..a social skill that is increasingly lost these days. My 5th stay, I met new friends who were also fishing as well as interesting touring guests. The daily changing menu is a credit to the chef. My only problem is that its several weeks until I return. Thoroughly recommended.

We were doing the NC500 and unfortunately this hotel was booked before our baby made an appearance or I wouldn’t have booked this hotel for us. Firstly The hotel is lovely and room was nice and had everything we needed (except a tv) luckily we had our laptop with us. Dinner did not start until 6:30pm which was a terrible time for us as the baby normally goes to bed at 7 so at that time he is getting hungry and tired. We went down to the the dining room at 6:30pm to not a very nice welcome we sat down and on a table for two which was tight considering we had the baby as well. It’s was a four course set menu and to be honest we didn’t want a four meal. The baby was getting up set and I said to the waiter is there was any chance we could have room service as the baby was tired and I didn’t want to ruin anyone else’s dinner with a crying baby and he said that shouldn’t be a problem. We put in our order and and went back up to the room and we’re really thankful for the service and understanding we had received. The phone then rang in the room to tell us that we couldn’t get room service. A staff member then came and knocked on the door to tell us that we could eat in the bar as no one was In there but we refused at this was my not the only the problem it was the fact that I didn’t want to sit eating a four course meal while the baby was upset. I don’t think they were particular bothered about us and our situation as they had a large group of people for a meal that night and obviously they were more important. Unfortunately Scourie didn’t have many options for us to eat that night and we ended up getting 2 salad rolls out of the local shop and had that in our room, at least we ended up saving at least £100. Definitely do not recommend this hotel for anyone with a young family.

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at the Scourie Hotel, and I want to go straight back! This was our second stay at this hotel, having first visited while doing the NC500 a few years ago. It was the highlight of our trip at the time, so we decided we needed to go back and stay for a few days to really explore the area. This is a family run hotel and all the staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgable. We don’t fish, but if you do you will be in good hands! Pre dinner drinks in the lounge are a lovely way to start to your evening, and I highly recommend you dine in the hotel during your stay. The menu changes nightly, and there is a choice of 3 or 4 dishes for each course. Make the most of a leisurely dining experience - this isn’t a hotel where they want you to eat fast to squeeze in more people - and then take your after dinner coffees, teas or digestives through in the lounge. Relax and unwind! On a practical note, they have updated the internet since our first visit, and there is also good 4G coverage. Top tip - consider ordering a packed lunch at reception the night before. If you haven’t visited this area before, you won’t find a bunch of cafes and restaurants on every corner, so it’s good to plan ahead!

The reception from the front of house person was so rude on arrival and persisted for the remainder of our stay, where we were singled out for particularly cold treatments. we came to fish but unfortunately the so called FISHING BOARD is simple not run fairly. there is a deep underlying sense of social competition in the hotel amongst the guests, fostered by the owners, in which all seem to be scrabbling up the slippery fish ladder in order to secure their reservation for the next time. Also a sense of fawning obsequiousness exists among the guest all demonstrating obedience and eagerness to please the owner despite appalling service and unpleasant attitudes of front desk staff. All this so they can be continue to be granted return next year to fish the Lochs of dwindling fish many of which are unfishable with weed which you will discover after your hike in. nobody will complain for fear of affecting their place on the social ladder and ranking in the owners black book! The FISHING BOARD which is supposed to fairly control the order of the weeks fishing, is simply a focus for social jostling and elbows. I was almost knocked over when checking in by a guest behind me trying to get to the board before me in order to gain a higher position, which he achieved. Then to cap that of I found the owner and so called Boardmaster reorganising the order of names without much explanation. So what would you do ? complain, which I did only to be singled out for poor treatment for the rest of the vacation. Unless your are one of the aging old salts that have been going year after year here and have 'earned' and been granted 'acceptable' status by the owner Richard, i strongly suggest you read this through again and think on it further. if you do go and particularly if you fish, don't complain, not unless your robust and able to deal with the ensuing unpleasant treatment. Also, don't use the boats - they are poorly maintained, in poor condition and too small for the lochs they are on - they are simply unsafe. For example, one of the boats had both side of the oar broken off so we were rowing with a stick on one side - try that on a loch 1.5 miles long in a strong wind. If your under the age of 60 you will likely be the youngest in the hotel, and eating in deathly silence in the dining room where all you will hear is the sound of masticating gums and loose dentures. Also the dinner service will take al least an hour and a half due to terrible service and completely untrained staff. the waiting staff are trying, but they are totally untrained or supported by any management and the owner is nowhere to be seen when it matters and appear not to care. the only positive in this terrible hotel is John the dinner waiter and Jamie the Gilly - well done to both of them. unfortunately two good guys like this wont last long there.

Never in my life have I been so insulted! Grumpy old man at the bar cafe' who had absolutely zero friendliness from the start- very unusual for Scotland where everywhere we have been service has been warm and welcoming. THEN HE GOT OUR ORDERS WRONG!! My husband is severely allergic to fish, and he brought a salmon sandwich I asked for cider, and got a dark ale instead. When we -immediately- said something about this, he told us to "Fxxx Off" and grabbed the plates away!!! This is unacceptable in every part of the world and this man needs to be fired immediately.

After an appetizer of little fried fish (I wish I could remember what they were called, but they were delightful and the couple next to us saw us enjoying it so much they ordered the same!) We didn't need to book, and ate there twice (there isn't another restaurant in Scourie). The menu is a bit limited, okay if you like seafood or are vegetarian, there are fewer meat choices. The food is good, hot and freshly-cooked, but over-priced and reflects a captive market (it's a long way to go to eat anywhere else!). Note: there's a fish-and-chip van several evenings a week, and it looked popular!

My husband and I were staying overnight in Scourie as we were doing NC500 last week on out motorbikes. The owner of the guest house we were staying at recommended The Scourie Hotel for food. We had a lovely meal, the staff were really nice and we met a lovely wee local man sitting at the end of the bar who happened to know someone my husband used to work with which made our visit really nice. The only gripe I had was the english gentleman who thought he had the right to walk in to the hotel and skip in front of us and another couple waiting to be served. The lady owner (I think) then took it upon herself or decided that he was more important than the other guests waiting to be served and she served him first. Big gripe of mine!! I was brought up with manners and to believe that first come is first served. I wouldn't have minded if this man had been elderly but he wasn't! Note to lady owner, take care of all your customers!! I have still rated with four stars but this was purely down to the place and the staff who served us.

Had a few drinks in the hotel bar, which could use a bit more atmosphere. Had a seat in the lounge area, where I was surrounded by fisherman telling stories about today's catch and tomorrow's plans. Had dinner in the hotel restaurant, which served a day menu. Food was okay. Room was okay and clean! Breakfast was alright, although the quality of the juices could be improved. Since the hotel is located in a remote area, wifi connection is poor. By the way: it was the first time in ages that I didn't had a television in my hotel room and I couldn't find one elsewhere!

We barely got up the driveway when a woman came out and told us we had to go round the back to the Eagle Bar for food (no reason was given as to why we couldn't go in the dining room). The Eagle Bar menu had very limited choice so we ordered two burgers which were tasty however they were £12 or £13 each which I felt was a bit overpriced considering the laidback setting. Our table was also dirty when we sat down so we decided to move to another table - unfortunately this was also dirty. A waitress came over to lay out cutlery but didn't clean our table or any others while we were in the bar. Food was nice enough but won't be visiting again.

We arrived and it was a case of needing a bed. The entrance and the lounge area looks really cosy and you think horray. Then you are told how much it is for a room £110 for a double which was out of our price range for a quick stop over but we didn't have much choice. The owner was polite and lovely and showed us to our room and it was disappointing. However she did explain that when they close they will be doing it up. I would say if this is a specialist hotel then charge what you want when it is up to that standard. For us she explained that they had new bed boards and covers in the rooms. For us the bed was a very small double, the bedding was cosy but we had no room! There was no TV which shocked us as we wanted an early night but read that they didn't have these to keep noise levels down. I wondered if this was an excuse because you can set a limit of volume on TV's as we often have found in hotels. They did offer a radio though which is confusing as they can be as disturbing. The room walls were thin anyway so we didn't need a TV to disturb us. The bathroom was awful but I have to say the shower was very powerful like having a good back massage! The price of the room and the state of the bathroom us shocking. Really the price should be lower until they can justify it. But the towels were bigger than most and you got a dressing gown here which was a first all holiday. We did opt for the evening meal which was a bonus as it was £25 and four courses. The gong goes at 7.30pm and she was very accommodating to my anxiety needs when I'd specified a certain table although I never got this in the end! The staff are all foreign I think which again I have mentioned its not a criticism but they seem to be miserable and don't understand very well. When I arrived and we were discussing the table I wanted to sit at there was music playing quite loudly but when we went for dinner there was a silent atmosphere and I did ask for some low background music as I can't stand hearing people eat but that didn't happen which was a shame. You could completely distinguish the happy and not so happy couples for lack or to much information in conversation! The so called "cocktail" bar I was looking forward to but it didn't have any Pina Coladas or such like so not sure if this is just an old fashioned saying but it was a room with a small bar in it. The food was nice and filling but the wine was pricy and not to my liking. A good Shiraz should not taste like a Merlot and should come from Australia. The lounge area is nice, very nice and if this is anything to go by along with the dinner then i think they will be on a winner but perhaps a bigger bed and happier staff. Also for breakfast I asked for beans. The reply was "No beans" I mean seriously there was a Spar next door. Good Luck with it all though. Still feel irritated by the price of the room.

We had to change rooms as we couldn't stand up in the bath to have a shower, and the outlook was a disgrace. The room we then had was better but not worth the money we paid. The food however was fantastic. We ate in the bar, the bar and waiting staff in the bar were friendly and helpful, the food was amazing, we had fish and chips I have never had better anywhere. Breakfast was disappointing as the staff were not well versed and it did not live up to the standard of the previous evenings meal.

Camping at nearby site. Firstly went to the fly bar and ordered drink. Asked for an evening meal (it being 7pm and at a hotel 'n' all). No, you're in the wrong place. Turns out they only serve food at the "pub" round the back! So, having guzzled my drink, I hot foot it to the food-serving part of the establishment. Two veggie options, neither of them are available. They eventually thought to offer me a cheese omelette - hmm. While eventually eating, I overhead another customer being apologised to by someone who seemed to be 'in charge' as the wine he'd ordered and paid for wasn't available either. I could go on, but as others have suggested, the welcome is frosty, the provision astonishingly poor and the remorse somewhat lacking. To their credit, the serving staff were lovely, especially as their management/owners had put them in such a awkward situation. Also, there is wifi, which I am gleefully using now, along with my valuable battery time to warn you what to expect if you dare to think this might be the welcoming beacon of Scottish commerce you might imagine it to be!

Love the bar at the back for food and atmosphere.Tried to book in recently. Offered q twin room for £130 and it was terrible. Small no tv and decorated in the 60s.

Had a rather tasty early dinner here and were impressed with the quality and freshness of everything, the waitress was very helpful and the view over the harbour lovely! I had the homemade burger which although small was very flavoursome. My wife had the fish and chips and she loved them. Definitely recommend if you are in the area.

We had Lunch at Scourie Hotel after a magical tour of the walled gardens of Scourie Lodge. The staff, Ashleigh and Lilly, were delightful and so attentive. This is a must STOP whether for lunch, dinner, an overnight or fishing. Goodness we were lucky that Penny and Gerald of Scourie Lodge sent us there for lunch. Venison hamburger, pea soup, cheddar and pickle sandwich and the lettuce, tomato and bacon toasted sandwich.......divine. And Ashleigh gave us tastes of beers until we found the perfect one! The best and so comforting.

Stayed here last easter with a walking group, The hotel has a lovely large lounge with blazing log fires and a wonderful old worldly atmosphere. It has recently been refurbished to a high standard. There is a nice cocktail bar in the lounge and a public bar round the back both of which serve real ale.The restaurant was pleasant and the food was excellent. The hosts were very helpful and friendly.I can certainly recommend this hotel.

We ate in the bar and were so disappointed. The soup was tasty enough but very thin and served with precut granary bread from a packaged loaf. At 3.95 I would have expected more. Both main courses were totally uninspiring - I had the goata cheese and onion tart which had loads of onion and not much goats cheese. The pastry on the bottom was undercooked. My husband had venison sausages which sounded lovely but were so thin (as was the gravy) and served with mash and peas! Not something I would expect when dining out. The meal came to 33 pounds and was what I would have expected from a local cafe not a nice hotel.

Called in to see how the place looked, as we had an excellent night's stay several years ago. It is under new ownership and they happily served us tea and cake in front of a roaring fire in the lobby area.Lovely old fishing hotel and it looks like the new management are determined to be welcoming and keep up the reputation. Will definitely go back.

Stay here for two nights and the hotel is now under new management which were really welcoming and friendly and couldn't do enough, so helpful and caring. The meals where excellent with a new menu on offer, with the hotel having a refurb and with the work being carried out still made my stay comfortable and warming. Staff very helpful and friendly, and the new management have really got to grips to keep the customer happy.

Visited twice, for a snack lunch then a full meal. Very enjoyable both times with friendly staff who welcomed our little dog in the bar, which has a lovely view over the coast. The hotel itself looks very comfortable and it's close to beautiful walks in Scourie bay which we loved.

A fuite!

Pleasantly surprised as redecorated since our last visit so much brighter atmosphere. The experience improved with the food which we would recommend as it was both excellent, plentiful and reasonably priced.

We had both lunch & an evening meal in the bar area. I have to say the paninis for lunch were better than the evening meal. The atmosphere is ok in this place it was a good laugh when some of the locals came in and we all got chatting. What let the evening meal down was the temperature and the quality. The food was warm but not hot. My husband had the steak pie and most of the meat was gristly. I had the haggis which was nice but again only warm. for the prices charged I expected better!Another small complaint was that whilst eating in the restaurant area all you could hear was the staff talking and laughing in the kitchen to which they seemed oblivious.

Ate here on three evenings, not a resident. Food was well cooked, cooked to order so had to wait about 20 mins on average. Had Fish and chips twice and Garlic Chicken, my husband had Venison Pie, all very tasty. Service was friendly, even though I spilt my glass of wine on the first night! Quiet most nights but busy in the residential side, but still good service.

Dropped into the bar one evening for a Bar Supper, and had the old reliable fish & chips. Well cooked, and quite satisfying, but overall - nothing special. Barman did welcome me with a Good Evening (so looking at other reviews, I was blessed !) but quick returned to chatting to cronies.Decent sized portion, but I'm not in a hurry to return.

I visited this bar several times and the only reasons why I returned again were my hunger and the fact that I didn't find any other restaurant nearby. There is no waitress and you have to order and pay at the bar desk. Oh well. But dinner meals were not a bit tasty. Maybe it is fine place to have some beers but nothing more.

We were given a somewhat chilly welcome in the restaurant. No one said Good Evening or smiled; we were just silently taken to a table and given menus. The waitress then came to take both our food and wine order. Within 30 seconds the starter arrived but we had to wait 10 minutes for the wine. I have no objection to waiting but the wine should arrive first. The only good thing I can say is that they have an excellent wine list.It was obvious that much of the food had been prepped and plated in advance - hardly necessary as there were only 8 people in for dinner. The next course that speedily arrived was plaice in cayenne pepper, which I can only describe as tasting of wet cotton wool. It was so awful that I left almost all of it. When the waitress cleared the table she said nothing. If she had asked I would have explained what was wrong but she didn't, nobody at any stage asked us how things were, despite the fact that I left half of my main course as it too was overcooked. The cheese course was pitiful; it was placed in front of us with not even a cursory explanation. It consisted of 3 very cheap cheddar type cheeses each with a different flavouring through them and what we had to assume was stilton. We also ordered a sticky toffee apple pudding which was heavy and tasteless. I also left most of that too and it was cleared without a word. I have a pretty good appetite and it is unusual for me to leave anything on my plate. At £29 for this 4 course menu I was not expecting Michelin starred food but this was dreadful. The staff either need better training or to take the initiative and show they care what the customer thinks. At the end of the evening I would happily have said all of this to the staff or the owners but they were nowhere to be seen so I have to report it this way.

This is a real fisherman’s hotel in the wilds of Sutherland. While the hotel is a bit dated the welcome was friendly, the food excellent with a good wine list. An ideal center for fishing, walking and boating. Ideal for a visit to Handa and the Great Stac. Defiantly worth a visit.

We went for a 3 course evening meal whilst staying in Scourie. The food was very nice and the staff friendly and efficient. The menu changes daily and there is a selection of meals but it would be nicer to be able to select from a wider menu rather than only what is being offered that evening. Portions could be slightly bigger, the range greater and some of the food seemed to be frozen rather than fresh (vegetables, the option of scampi and chips), which was a shame, considering the price was relatively expensive and alcohol was extremely expensive. The atmosphere which seemed to be created by the hotel guests themselves was rather formal and felt contrived at times, but overall it was a nice evening and good food.

As per the other reviewer I found the welcome "missing" but at least I wasn't greeted in the fashion they were! I think I might have turned round and walked out. I too ordered the scampi and within minutes I could hear the sound of frozen scampi and chips in the deep fat fryer. At £11.95 it was very expensive for what it was. I've had better servings for around six or seven pounds elsewhere. It's such a shame that a hotel pub restaurant on the coast serves up frozen dare I say almost fast food when it could be doing seasonal freshly caught produce. I'd happily pay twelve pounds for that. Bar staff were pleasant enough bar one red haired young girl who clearly needs training in customer service. I will not be returning.

As per another reviewer, we were camping at the Scourie Campsite (great) and decided to venture out to this bar for an evening drink and a look at the menu.Upon entering the first words we heard were "f**king tourists" to which the barmaid/landlady just gave a smirk! The guy making the comment was a very drunk local fisherman and we were amazed that his aggresive stance went unchecked by the bar staff.I also asked for an alternative wine as the one from the bar was in an unmarked green bottle and was told if I wanted anythiing else I'd have to buy the bottle, despite seeing glass sized bottles of Stowells behind the bar. Oh and by the way, frozen scampi with chips was £11.95 - hardly good value!Over the weeks holiday we visited many local bars for food and drink and were always received warmly and professionally, its a shame that Scourie, with its amazing views and excellent campsite has been let down by possibly the worst bar in Scotland. The Kylesku Inn is certainly worth the short drive South.
