Scoops Gelato UK in Portsmouth

The poor young girl working must have been exhausted at the end of her shift. This place was not busy at all but she was doing everything. A tall, male figure just kind of floating in the background. We sat down and were told our things would be brought over. Along comes said tall figure absolutely stinking of weed and clearly not on this planet. He just hovered over my shoulder and placed 2 drinks down and continued to hover. I asked what the drinks were because we didn't order them, he had no idea what they were and wasn't even capable of speaking, just grunted. Other members of our party ordered them so we passed them down ourselves. A few moments later he returned with another drink (cola float) and again, couldn't tell us what it was and just placed it on the corner of the table. The glass was absolutely filthy so we returned it politely to the busy girl and she kindly replaced it in a plastic cup. The guy then brought over our last drink and handed to me over my shoulder in slow mo and then proceeded to stand behind the counter and just stare into space. This guy was completely out of this world and should not have been serving people because he wasn't even capable of putting a couple of words together. The place was filthy, menus sticky and held together with stickers. As mentioned the glass was filthy that a drink was served in and judging my other reviews, this place is a bit of a risk!

I should have walked out the minute we saw the menus. They were tatty and filthy 🤢 we ordered the food and when it was brought over, the lad who brought them over absolutely stunk of weed and whilst there in body, he was floating on a cloud somewhere. He didn’t want to be there, infact if the phrase can’t be ar**ed had a wiki page, he would be the poster boy. He dumped the food on the table with as much grace as someone emptying a slop bucket, nearly spilled desert on someone and offered no explanation as to what he was actually bringing over… just a grunt and a shrug. The ice cream float was served in a grotty dirty glass. On a positive, the girl behind the counter deserves a pay rise because she was working her socks off. But overall, avoid. It has had its day.

Delivery very slow, waited nearly 2 hours for food to be delivered. Food didn't taste fresh, was like it had been left in the box for ages before we got it. Won't have anything delivered from here for a while, definitely not if you want food quickly.

Have just been and had ice cream the cone was horrible very stale I told the girl she didn’t want know the man working was to busy eating behind the counter

Stopped at this place for dessert after dinner nearby. Very colourful place serving a variety of desserts: the typical waffles, crepes and ice creams. The place wasn’t busy but didn’t feel very clean either. Staff probably wasn’t bothered about maintaining the place. Ordered food which was good and no qualms about the taste or quality.

I don't know what to say! This is the most delicious dessert I have ever had. So much better than just ice-cream,this gelato is amazing!!

For some reason even their previously non-dairy sorbet is now made using milk powder. So any families with lactose intolerant members, or vegans, had better steer clear, as we'll now have to after years going there.

I was ‘hired’ here a couple months back. The lack of documents i had to fill was my first insight into the sketchiness of this place. As someone who’s previously worked in an ice-cream parlour that holds itself to much higher standards, it was easy to spot the red flags from behind the counter. Firstly, the high prices for stingyly-made products. For all items that you can get toppings on, we were told to count them and would get in trouble for giving a customer more than the allocated number. Four Ferrero rochers on a massive £10+ Ferrero rocher waffle was a sad sight. Limited chocolate drizzle. This is just one of plenty of examples. Second was the cleanliness. No gloves, no hair nets nor hats. No wonder people keep finding hair in their food. Third and most frustrating to me was the management. They take bad management to another level. Condescending, unhelpful, unresponsive is how i would describe in in 3 words. None of my questions were answered, i was treated like a child and I wasn’t even told that I wouldn’t be getting shifts for the quiet period, they left my queries on this unanswered for days at a time during a time when I desperately needed to work just to be able to eat. I haven’t been contacted back in over two months so i assume i have been fired? Not that they ever gave me a reason as to why. All i know is that a coworker once told me ‘sometimes if they don’t like a person they’ll just stop giving them shifts without saying anything’. I don’t recommend coming here, honestly you can make everything they do here just as easily at home, or go somewhere that doesn’t treat it’s new staff members so poorly. That being said I also don’t recommend working here. It was the biggest waste of my time when i could have been looking for other jobs they strung me along for no reason. Also the lady who was supposed to be training me spent the whole 4 hours on tiktok. Genuinely what.

I went here with my cousin and auntie, all of us ordered waffles with soft serve. After we ate, we all had stomach aches and it gave me diarrhea about 30mins/1hour later... I don't mind because now I feel slim but not a good sign hygiene wise. Looking back it did seem a bit grubby. Anyway, the food was nice but I thought it was overpriced. I probably wouldn't go back unless I wanted to a dessert with a laxative effect... which I might because I don't mind diarrhea. Also, asked for tap water with my waffles and had to go up again and ask for it... not a big deal, helps with my daily step count. Anyway, I'd advise the establishment to revise their hygiene policies and maybe wipe down the menus.

Visited scoops have previously been and like mentioned in other review it has gone dramatically downhill. The customer service was damn right awful, went in there and not even a hello so rude, no welcome had to ask for menus as nothing was on the tables, place looked grubby. Paid around £70 for 3 adults and 3 kids to have a desert. Our little kids being kids wanted to use the straws which obviously being biodegradable fall apart whilst being used, my nephew went up to get another straw, my brother then noticed ANNA from behind the counter proceeded to hide the straws behind the counter with her, after another straw dropped on the floor my brother went up and asked for one to which we were told ‘you’ve already had enough straws’, genuinely gobsmacked, my 5 year old then politely asked for one as hers had been on the floor and again was told by a very rude and unfriendly ANNA, 'No'. I do not usually get annoyed by things but seeing as I had just spent such an amount in there I had to ask ANNA what was the problem why was she so concerned about the straws, did she personally pay for them?? to which she told me her manager would be looking on the camera... absolute joke… yes, he must be struggling to afford straws with the price hike, disgusting will not visit again. Also, to my disgust noticed ANNA cleaning the tables with window cleaner which is not a disinfectant, and it will not kill germs. Train you staff on what to use to clean your tables and keep your straws you disgusting establishment!

We loved coming here and visited regularly. Unfortunately the quality has dropped dramatically. Not only have the prices increased substantially but the care they originally took in preparing and presenting the food has plummeted. Atrocious! We will never return.

I went there first time , normally I go to sprinkles , ordered a cookie dough , after few scoops, I saw a long brown hair . So I called the waitress and she apologised. She offered to replace for a new one. It put me off completely. So I told the waitress I wanted my refund, she told me I need to await for her boss , or give my number and he will call me and refund the £4.95 on my card. It’s 2 days since than . I haven’t received any calls from the manager. The girls making the dessert was not wearing any PPE, hair net or any other staff . The owner/ manager obviously don’t care as long as he makes his money . He doesn’t trust his staff to refund.

Ordered food through UberEats, and delivery driver didn't pick everything up. Called the restaurant and a very lovely person helped me out and even dropped off what was missing! Thank you so much if you are reading this! You helped out a student in desperate need of coffee

Came here for waffles with my partner and as nice as the waffles were, the service was very poor and none of the staff were wearing masks or any PPE. They were reusing the same menus for customers without cleaning them, and within this current climate I wouldn’t recommend going here when there’s plenty of independent restaurants doing as much as they can to be COVID safe. They gave us the wrong change also and were very rude when we asked for the right amount back, after having to ask twice for the right amount they finally reluctantly gave us the right amount of change. Waffles good, service and cleanliness awful.

Lots of tasty options and flavours. Ice creams, sorbets, fruits, waffles, pancackes Great place for those with a sweet tooth. Went to celebrate a family birthday and all were satisfied and full up.

Very disappointed, staff were rude and barely even acknowledged we were there, wasn’t even a hello, thank you or good bye! Food was nice but the place was pretty dirty, the trays they served our kids food on were filthy to the point it still had dried food from previous diners on it! Not impressed and wouldn’t return here 🤢💩

Swore I wouldn’t go in here again but as it was a child’s choice (6) I didn’t want to disappoint, the staff can’t even manage a welcoming hello, they just stand there gormless until you order and can’t muster a thank you either, the kids love the ice cream

Came in for daughter's 10 birthday treat,strawberry bubblegum,and a nutty buddy £5.95 each,2 scoops of ice cream,squirty cream and some sauce 👍 Was ok,normal a lot better. Place is still dirty,with the 4 staff working stood round the counter chatting all the time wh where there.....should be better 😕

It is disappointing that there has been no adjustments of seating still very packed closely together. No cleaning between customers and no record of track and trace. No screens. Complete free for all. Only masks in sight were the delivery drivers coming in.

The tables and menu's were all sticky and the toilets were an abomination. They clearly hadn't been cleaned for months and there was something bloody and mouldy festering on the floor by the sink. Shameful

El personal es muy ignorante y valora el helado en dólares, cuando se corrige, cree que es aceptable tirar el cambio a un lado. Consiguió algunas porciones de dulce de azúcar para el helado y al mirar la imagen puede ver que parte del dulce de azúcar es como comer grava.Como familia, no volveremos a este lugar nuevamente y aconsejaremos a todos los amigos y familiares que tampoco lo hagan.No me importaría, pero si valoraran cosas como Estados Unidos, también deberían intentar contratar el servicio al cliente estadounidense.

El personal qué puede decir que la actitud es absolutamente asquerosa, fuimos allí como un grupo de 8 familias. Hacía tanto calor en el restaurante que educadamente le preguntamos si se podía apagar la calefacción, el miembro del personal fue muy grosero con él y dijo que estaba bien. This is a nice looking ice cream parlor. It has a variety of ice creams but if you order a waffle, you do not get a scoop of ice cream, you get a whippy ice cream. That is clearly a cost cutting thing.Now it is one thing if the whippy was nice. Here we got a very nice waffle with strawberries but we got this horrible yellow looking ice cream dessert which was far away from being any kind of ice cream.Cheap and nasty and not what I expect to get from an ice cream parlor.A let down for what was a pretty looking place. Maybe we should had a sundae as that had proper ice cream in it.

The staff could not crack a smile, obviously do not know the words please and thank you because they didn’t say it once! When I asked what flavour the unicorn ice cream was,the lady serving said “what” and shrugged ....won’t go in again

Fabulous to visit with the whole family. Very quick service and great value for money. Highly recommend the crepes and waffles with creamy silk ice-cream. You definately need a sweet tooth. Very generous portion sizes.

Visited on a wet night as a first timer. Very Americanised and a varied menu. Sadly the staff were without a sense of humour and a smile would have been an extra. Would go back again if in the area again but perhaps when the staff have more personality and are able to communicate verbally instead of with looks of despair.

We went there with friends and ordered different items. The Staff is very polite and humble to the valuable customer. They presented everything very nicely and we enjoyed a lot. We will come again here.

I was amazed how dirty this restaurant is- the toilets were the worst I’ve ever seen, the tables were dirty and the menus sticky.The ice cream was not tasty- we ended up having to get it exchanged for something else. The waffles were tasty which slightly rescued the experience.This is miles apart from the experience at the Southampton Scoops and I really would suggest avoiding Scoops in Southsea.

My partner and I came in as she had an offer from groupon- we spent about 5 minutes looking at the ice cream and menu and when we went to order where told that are groupon had ran out at 12:00! (It was bang on 12:00) we where disappointed they didnt honour our deal as both staff noticed us when we came in. Instead of an apology we then got into a big argument and the manager lady called her boss saying another groupon has come in late! The lady clearly has no idea on how to deal with customers and made us feel really uncomfortable! We left and asked groupon for a refund. Even if we where a minute over by the time we got to the till, you would think the staff would have honoured the deal instead of shouting at us for apparently being late!

So went here today first appearance was nice decor well set out. We found a booth after diverting from the first one as the seats were all ripped with holes in. My daughter had Nutella waffles with banana and ice cream which I had a sample of was very nice however didn’t think much of the ice cream. I had strawberry cheesecake with cream and a black coffee the coffee was very weak the cheesecake was nice but when I went to eat the side of strawberries they looked a bit old and slushy, on closer inspection one had mould on disgusting. I took my plate over to the ladies and explained the strawberries had mould in them and they just looked at me. Nobody bothered to come to my table with an apology and they just carried on working. Unsure how they have a 5 food hygiene rating when they are clearly not following food practices I will not be returning.

the ice cream here is exceptional and delicious. Would recommend to families with young children. Very nice staff and great service

Came into enjoy a crepe with my pals and we were greeted with rude staff, infact we weren’t even greeted no one said hello to us nor did they smile!

No customer skills at all, woman with glasses seems to be quite bored to do her job properly and shows a bit of friendliness while is serving. Very disappointed and not coming back..

I usually like scoops as I love ice cream. Ordered cherry and jaffa cake with fruit on top. When it came it was like milk in a glass. There was no actual flavour of any sort. Two people in the party were having waffles so not sure if mine was let to melt while theirs were made

Most surprised at what was on offer. Obviously kids about 10years old see pictures on the menu and almost straight away go for the biggest but when it arrives their eyes are bigger than their bellies and very few manage to finish making it such a waste. Great variety in the ice-cream flavours but would not be my choice again to return. Very expensive.

i absoloutely loved scoops until i was givben a waffle with multiple hairs on it ! i was given another one in replacement which also had a hair on it i have never been back and never will. watch out

The ice cream is superb as is the selection available. I had tiramisu and cherry, not an obvious combination but highly recommended. Definitely worth a visit!

Been a few times over the years but just bought 2 x Ferrerro Rocher and it was tasteless and melted very quickly, it almost tasted watered down. The first cone was quite a small scoop and the second one was almost double in size. At first I was very jealous that my husbands ice cream was superior to mine, but after tasting it I was quite glad I had the small one. This is nothing like Italian Gelato. Maybe they have changed their ingredients to an inferior quality?

Not really my cup of tea. But my children loved it so on that basis i would return as a special treat for them and myself stick to the coffee.

Nice food but terrible service, our order was forgotten about and then the staff had the audacity to accuse of not paying in the first place. Our order took over 30 minutes, and the staff were not slightly apologetic. This has also not been the first time I've received bad service from this place.

Took grandson their today and we all had delicious ice cream. Many varieties and an excellant menu of ice cream. Good value for all of us.

The first time when we went was amazing, the second one it was fine, but could be better. Specially because we ordered the same dish and arrived different than before.

I come to scoops regularly and cookie dough is amazing. It’s always made exactly how I want it (as I like it with bubble gum sauce!) and marshmallows. Staff always get it right every time. And are very generous with there servings and toppings.

Best dessert parlour in the South. Amazing service and great variety. Nice atmosphere and good decor.

Lots of variety of ice cream flavours - all lovely flavours, very sweet. Can have in tubs, waffle cones or absolutely enormous concoctions of sundaes. Would be ideal for sharing. Visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed with families - nice place. Was our first ever visit to scoops and very pleasant.

What a fun place to go for a massive semi-frozen treat! OK - so the knickerbocker glory has changed since Wimpey were kings of the towering, soft-scoop sauce-fests in the 70's and 80's, but you will not be disappointed (or left hungry) by the ones here.

We were lucky enough to be able to walk to this fab ice cream parlour. Very generous servings and delicious flavours. The waffle sundae was delicious too!

Very clean, plenty of seating and helpful staff. They have a huge choice of Gelatos and sorbets and even allowed me to taste a sample. Portion sizes were very generous. Been here a couple of times now and we've not been let down. Look forward to our next visit.

Delicious ice cream, lots of flavours served in every possible way. Cornets, sundaes, floats, waffles, crepes. Scrumptious!

Visited with my mum as a uni send off treat. I had a sundae (the peanut butter option) and my mum had a waffle which was a mountain of strawberries and chocolate with side scoops of coconut and black cherry ice cream. Both were absolutely delicious and the waffle was much crispier than other places we've visited which was way better.

I am always tempted by gelati so you can imagine a holiday in Italy would not be good for the waist line! The weather was warm so as we were passing it seemed like a no-brainer, particularly as the place was advertising its Italian connections. We have to say that, although there was a great selection, the flavours we had were a little lacking in taste so we were rather disappointed. And yes, there are plenty of outlets in the UK that do good gelati; it's not just Italy that do good ones.

I came in about half an hour before the store closed only to be turned away because "a machine was off", no machine specified but considering I couldn't get a single thing I can only assume they meant the till as I can't see what machine they need to make an ice cream cone. I was completely turned away and when I questioned their closing time they simply shrugged and went back to closing the store so they could get home early. Awful conduct, you're getting paid to serve customers till midnight. Sort it out.

Reward for good school report. The kids loved it. Not the place to go if your a health food freak, this is pure indulgence for the sweat tooth and they do that well. It's bright, bust and full of life. There is a flavour for everyone, so if your looking to treat your kids and your not watching the calories (lets face it you can't just watch the kids, you must indulge also) then this is a great place to go.

Great waffles and sundaes, but overpriced. Not somewhere I'd come all the time, but okay for something different if you fancy something sweet!

Ice cream is always a hit, it is slightly more expensive than I like to pay, but overall still enjoyable. Can park freely outside in the evening so easier to access than some of the other local parlours.

We crossed the road to Scoops, as Sprinkles opposite was extremely busy. We were so surprised at how bright and clean it was and what a wonderful display of ice-creams.

Thought we would give this place a go because sprinkles on the opposite side was quite busy. Well we were pleasantly surprised waffles are so nice and tasty plenty of toppings on the waffles. Would definatly go back again excellent service.

The ice cream was good but we felt that the quantity was reduced as we had a Groupon voucher and were told that they are offering a heavy discount on Groupon vouchers! We requested to change the chocolate sauce from cold to hot but was bluntly refused as nothing can be changed if we have a Groupon voucher.

Went to this ice cream parlour on recommendation, we had been out all day so the kids choose waffles, far to much chocolate on the top spoilt the dish. Ice cream was very nice, stick to the ice cream.

Have been here a few times, food is good very filling and a good price. Large range of deserts all of which are quite big and good quality. Fast service friendly staff. Also open till midnight incase you fancy ice-cream in the middle of the night.

A lot of choice, big scoops, huge waffles, huge sundaes and reasonably priced.

Popped in for an ice cream treat. The sundaes are huge, but in comparison, the waffles are Mountainous. I had the Banoffee, but without the toffee sauce. I almost managed to finish it. The Sundae is too big for children to finish. Not cheap, but nice for a treat. Just order something you can finish, otherwise it detracts from the enjoyment.

Visited today to use a Groupon voucher. Staff abruptly informed us of lots of restrictions with the voucher that weren't stated anywhere on voucher or in fine print. One order was wrong when served, so I advised them politely. Staff were extremely rude about it & threw my waffle across the table to me when re- serving it. It wasn't busy so no excuse for rudeness at all. Won't be returning & definitely wouldn't recommend here!

Delicious Ice cream and so many flavours to choose from!! What's not to love! Quick and friendly service, open late Sunday evening when the sun was going down. Great place (albeit central Portsmouth, no offence ;-). )

Amazing selection of Ice creams and waffles with some different flavours. Very filling so be careful what you order.

It was the 3rd time we had been here and we thought instead of going out for a family meal for my 50th we'd not be adults and have just pudding for a meal. And we all enjoyed it if not a little too much, great value and the flavour is always spot on, staff are friendly and it have a nice atmosphere for family or couples or even if you just fancy ice cream by yourself . If in this area I'd say you can't go very wrong with this place, it's exactly what it says it is, a place to eat ice cream & gelato

Overpriced. It probably should cost £5/£5.50, definitely doesn't worth a £7. I did request for a change of the flavour from strawberry ice cream to strawberry oreo when my friend and I were ordering at the till. However, after we ate all the toppings and finally dig into the shake itself, the taste is definitely a very bland strawberry ice cream... I may be back in the future but I'm definitely avoiding the shakes.

Went there with Groupon offer. £6.95 for two massive waffles and choice of hot drinks was more then enough! Enjoyed every bit of it. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, couldn't fault it. Will definitely go back for a sweet madness!

A great place to over indulge on chocolate, waffles and ice cream. We have been on several occasions and highly recommend

lovely treat and enjoyed the experience. The waffles seemed like better value than the pancakes...they were enormous. My daughter and her friend loved the milkshakes too.

Last time I went was a longtime ago. guys are great in there. Food has been great. The only thing I would say is they need to leave their AC on. windows are covered in steam or something.

Ran into here on a very wet saturday night after being out for a family meal. I asked the girl for 2 scoops in a pot... It was over flowing, way more than 2 scoops worth! I also had the chocolate cake which was delicious, and huge. I couldn't finish it, and that says a lot because i love cake :)

3rd visit here recently and brilliant as always. A huge selection of ice creams served well, with other options like waffles available too. This place has been busy each time we've visited, and is also family friendly too.

Best Ice cream in town. This place has the friendliest staff, I have visited several times with my family and am always greeted with happy and helpful staff. My orders have always been spot on and I have never had any problems or mix ups.

I usually rave about scoops but I am very upset to have just been turned away from scoops in southsea at 11.20pm on Sunday 15th November. I was told by the guy cleaning the floor that the machines had been cleaned. I told him that I only wanted a takeaway waffle and he said sorry they have been cleaned. Very upset.

Me and 7 of my friends visited a few days ago for an 'evening pudding'

Went here to get my little brother an ice cream, and the queue was out the door. So my thoughts were that this place must be good! (It was around 1900)

We visited after an appalling meal elsewhere and this turned the evening round. HUGE choice, and HUGE portions. Great service and a lovely environment. A lot of places could learn a lot from Scoops

Went here as a great for my daughters birthday. She had creaps and my wife and I had waffles. Top tip, great portions so think of this as a main course not a pudding. Good value bearing in mind the portion size. Staff friendly and restaurant clean and tid. Will go again.

I was over visiting my sister whose a student in Portsmouth. She suggested a waffle and I simply went along with it. She took me to Scoops assuring me it was the best waffle place in Portsmouth. The place itself was great, clean, tidy and well decorated. The choice on the menu was great with something for every single taste. We went for a candy floss flavoured late and M&M; waffle. The late was really tasty and the waffle....what can I say, amazing. It was huge, more than enough for the two of us! The galeto that came with it was so tasty aswell. Next time I'm visiting I will definitely have to come back!

As always received a friendly welcome. The choice of ice cream is amazing and there's always a new flavour to try. Lots of sorbet for those allergic to milk. Comfortable seating area and WC always clean. The big TVs can be a bit loud at times though.

Really bad experience with a take away order. Not so professional and the presentation of desserts has dramatically dropped. Really poor service.

I took 15 children to Scoops - nobody answered the phone when I tried to book - nobody knew anything about menus or prices or the party room when I enquired - the manager was disengaged - Scoops weren't ready for us even though I'd booked and called a couple of times - the lights in the party room were off - no staff helped us or even wished my daughter happy birthday. Detested giving this business any of my money and won't go again. Pleased there are other ice cream parlours in Southsea now.

My family and I tried to treat ourselves with a nice time and lovely ice-cream on Saturday afternoon. But... we unfortunately choose very bad place for this treat.
