I went in December. The server was very friendly and helpful, which was really nice. There was a wide variety of delicious ice creams, and also a selection of cones and toppings. Expensive, but good

Stopped in whilst walking through town. Very glad we did. Excellent service with a large range of ice creams to choose from. Kept three kids and two parents very happy and quiet whilst we ate! Delicious ice cream thank you and we will be back.

Typically overpriced Berkhamsted, where genuinely price to quality does not match! A picture paints a 1000 words as they!

Stopped here on account of their blackboard outside advertising soup and a toasted sarnie for £4.95. Very good it was too.... choice of 2 soups (we had potato and cheese) and around 6 sarnie choices. mice coffees too. Friendly service and clean. A good lunch stop!!

We waited for about 10 minutes for a bowl of minestrone soup and a toastie. The minestrone soup had absolutely no taste other than hot water with a hint of tomato. After adding copious amounts of salt and pepper the taste was unchanged. The toasties were OK. The service was unenthusiastic and very slow.

Twice running now. Just very very bad customer service. Served by middle aged gentlemen, very short, sharp and unfriendly. Felt like an inconvenience being there. The drinks were fine but let down by bad customer service. It’s a shame shaking cow was closed! Won’t be returning in a hurry

We just popped in for a hot drink and a snack while doing a bit of Xmas shopping as weve visited before and always liked it here. After being the only customer stood at the counter for over 5 mins i had to ask a member of staff if anyone wanted to take my order, a lady begrudgingly stood at the till and asked what i would like, she looked like she really didnt want to be there and grunted at me after completing my order. I sincerely hope they either give their staff some trainer on customer service or have a change around of staff

We came to Mario's for a quick lunch while passing through Berkhamsted. We both chose the three cheese galettes, as galettes are supposed to be made with buckwheat flour which is gluten-free. We were told that their standard galette was not gluten-free and they would have to make them specially. When they came they were heavy and stodgy, with absolutely no garnish or accompaniment. There are plenty of other places locally to eat.

Popped in for a cappuccino on Monday morning, delicious. Fast, friendly service, sat by the window, a great view of everything going on in the area. Like the atmosphere, lots of people having take-out coffee and the ice cream looked delicious, will need to return.

Plenty of choice of ice cream flavours, waffles and pancakes - can be very busy and you need to time it right if you want to sit in and eat. Great to have this as a local restaurant.

Mario's may be better known for it's exceptional sandwiches and ice cream, but it's also great if you just want morning coffee too! It's homely and welcoming, and whether you're just ordering a takeaway, or sitting down to enjoy, the coffee is always well made and good quality, (never bitter) and cheaper than other cafes in the town - which can't be bad! My husband hadn't been before and was impressed - we had coffee and buttered teacake which were delicious. Oliver, was friendly and efficient and took a lot of care with people's orders - checking everything was okay, even asking if the music was the right volume! Thank you - will definitely be back.

I went there to get some ice cream after the library and it was delicious especially the mint chocolate and chocolate

This is a lovely, friendly little café with a totally different format to the big coffee shop chains, including in particular an ice cream cabinet full of yummy temptation and a range of milkshakes. The feel of the interior is more like an American ice cream parlour of the 1950s. Friendly and efficient staff served up good coffees. The approach is quite entrepreneurial, with offers for party bookings. What's not to like?

Stopped off for coffee & a snack - went for the 3-cheese pancakes (£6). Very tasty- would look a bit more impressive with a touch of garnish

Always willing to stop off a Mario’s any time of year. So much more than great ice cream. Coffee soup sandwiches hot food salads. Great place.

Great icecream and milkshakes. Not a lot of space for eating inside, but most people seem to takeaway. Very popular with local children.

Just stopped for a take away coffee. Service was very friendly and welcoming and the coffee was very good. I'd rather come here than Costa/Starbucks.

I have only been here for ice cream or smoothies. Both are delicious. Would highly recommend here. Nice staff. Great for children. U can book them for a party or to serve ice cream at a special party, charity or school fete.

First visited Papa Johns 5 years ago and have been having pizza from there since, all the staff are very friendly and helpful at all times.

Utilizamos al amor Mario como el mango sorbete aquí era deliciosa, pero fuimos ayer y el personal ahora dijo que contenía 'huellas' de huevo. No estoy seguro de lo que eso significaba para mí, como huellas son donde puede haber contaminación transversal, pero la camarera era inflexible había un poco de huevo. . Que me sugiere. contiene huevo (así que no debería haber dicho 'huellas').

Really thick and creamy milkshakes. Had the chocolate and it was very tasty. She even added a bit more chocolate for my husband!

Buscando un lugar para una bebida. Paraba afuera Marios buena pinta desde fuera. Saludó una señorita muy agradable, que fue paciente mientras nos decidimos por lo que pedir. El servicio era eficiente y las bebidas y sandwichera sandwich eran buenas. La decoración está muy bien hecho. Sin duda, volveremos cuando volvamos en Berkhampstead.

I love it here, it's such a lovely little place to pop into and enjoy a delicious ice cream. There's lots of choice, although I'd like to see more sorbets for my dairy allergic daughter. Often there's just one option. They use separate scoops though, so clearly the staff are up on contamination for allergy sufferers. Top points! Definitely worth a visit! The shakes are pretty darn good too!

value for money. lunch for under £5. i love the ice creams they sell it's perfect for this time of year.

This is one of the best places for a healthy lunch at a reasonable price in Berkhamsted; I usually have soup and a cheese and tomato toastie and a glass of water for just £4.95... but lots more on offer; full range of coffees and teas, healthy sandwiches and toasties, crepes and many varieties of Italian ice creams, cakes and other desserts... all very yummy at reasonable prices...but only limited seating for about 16 people, so sometimes you need to share which is one way of getting normally reserved people talking! No toilets as it is mainly for take-away food, but if you can find a seat its great for people watching as its big windows are right on the cross roads opposite the flower shop... oh I forgot weather premitting there are about a further 6 seats outside with two small tables; on sunny days you can top up your tan whilst you watch the world go by. Special mention for Selina from Thailand who works PT on Monday & Tuesdays; a very nice lady. :-) ... in fact all the staff are friendly and helpful including the owner Mario.

My wife and I popped into Mario's for coffee and cake. We always try to use independent coffee shops and it looked clean and tidy, it is a cosy place but we managed to get seats by the window. The coffee and cakes were good although the service was a little stretched when they were busy. Berko is rammed with coffee shops and eateries, but we enjoyed Mario's and will go again. Apparently they do great ice cream but as it was freezing outside we gave it a miss.

I am lucky this is just up the road from us. The Veggie Heaven Crepe is one of the best take away lunches in Berkhamsted! The local Scoops ice cream (made upstairs) is also delicious.

Went here with a friend who raved about the quality and reasonable price of this eatery. Well I WAS impressed.. ordered toasty meal deal for less than £5...The toasty was really tasty and the soup, potato and Gloucester, was a scrummy. Well worth a visit.. staff were really friendly.I'll be back..... As Arnie would say.

Mario's is the perfect café for the summer and winter periods with absolutely delicious ice creams and tasty waffles and hot drinks when its chilly. Would recommend to a friend 100%, great for young people.

Don't visit Berkhamsted without having an ice cream at Marios. Great place for kids ( and big kids). Also serves nice coffee and snacks while the kids do their thing.

Mario's is currently offering a soup and toaster deal for under £5, tried it today and the carrot, sweet potato and coriander soup was delicious - big old portion that definitely fills you up. Coffee was good too - will come again.

There is not much seating inside and having had lovely crepes which included a fried egg in France ordered one here. But instead of a soft yolk and white served intact on the crepe they managed to cook it so it me they managed to cook the egg so it resembled an omeletter. It was about a 18 months ago so it might now be better...

The Gelato here is absolutely lovely, I can especially recommend the Oreo flavour as well as the Chocolate. Looking forward to trying some gelato with a waffle.

The ice cream at this place is amazing. Milkshakes are nice also and are very refreshing. Staff are very polite and provide an excellent service. Will definitely be going back again

Stopped by to pick up ice cream for my daughter and a milkshake for myself. Ice cream fine but milkshake was terrible. Watched assistant put one banana a split of milk and nearly a tub of ice cream in. It tasted awful. The girls serving were not happy about something and we're trying to serve a busy shop and discuss whatever issues they had. Such a shame as I have been in before and had a good drink

Really tasty fresh ice cream. A little soft for my taste but it was scorching! We both had salted caramel which was excellent with fresh water cones. We didn't try anything else but seemed like a lovely little cafe and very busy.

Nice ice cream and a good range of sorbet, the mango sorbet was lovely! would go back again for more!

My friend and I stopped here for tea after our 9-mile ramble. Very impressed by the range of sinfully sweet dishes on offer. Loved the ice-cream and good to be served tea in a pot. Friendly and welcoming. Can understand why it was busy/ Pity it's not ;local!

It's difficult to find a decent gelateria that makes its own gelato and I'm glad I found this gem. The gelato was delicious and they don't skimp on the toppings either!

Called in for a coffee and a bacon sarnie, coffee ok but the sandwich contained bacon that seemed to have been sitting around for a while, was pretty minimal and VERY crisp. Now, I know that everyone has their own favourite way that the bacon is presented but this was poor and quite pricey for what it's worth. Several other outlets in town produce nicer food far cheaper. Won't be calling again methinks!

Kids had their usual ice creams which were good. Instead of going to Costa I decided to have a Luxury Hot Chocolate here and regretted it. It took an age to make and was tepid. In fact i finished it in one go. I find it weird that if I order a kids hot chocolate anywhere, its always boiling hot, yet an adult one is always tepid.

Marios is situated in a convenient central location on the High Street. What a great place to meet friends or just sit and watch the world go by. It was busy when we visited but not ridiculously so. We only waited a few minutes before we were served. They did seem to be running low on a few popular flavours though.

Caramel Crunch sundae - huge and fantastic! Never thought I'd get though it all but it was too yummy to leave. Friendly, efficient staff - a great little place that everyone should try and visit.

Convenient central location; on the corner of the High Street and the road down to Waitrose. A nice place to meet with friends or sit and watch the world go by. We stopped here for an ice cream and a very nice coffee. Ideal if your child is getting fractious and needs pacification; I always find ice cream helps! Can't comment on the food as we were only taking a quick pit stop refreshment break, however I would definitely eat here next time as I liked the place very much.

great location based right in the heart of berko, when the sun is out this place cant be beaten for a refreshing ice cream with the kids or grabbing a milkshake would be very much recomended! overall a lovely establishment with lovely staff members.

A friend suggested we try the new Scoops in Berkhamsted (now called Mario's) so we travelled from North London & we were not disappointed. We had the best crepes, made by Mario himself as we watched. I had the Veggie Heaven & my daughter had a sweet crepe with the lovely Gelato that Mario makes himself. The shop looks great and the staff friendly. A must visit if you are ever in Berkhamsted.

Easily found on the corner of the High Street and the road down to Waitrose and the main car park, I stopped in here for a very nice coffee. I can't really comment on the ice cream and breakfasts/lunches that they do but the coffee was fine.

This is a firm favourite for the kids - great ice cream served in an a tempting array of flavours.Lunch options are average - only to be expected with a small kitchen.The coffee is not great however.

Mario so plays down his fantastic skills at making ice cream. The ice cream is all freshly made on the premises and nearly always made just a couple of days before it is served. No mass produced ice cream served here!

I know ice cream and sadly Scoops just does an average job with theirs. Even sadder, given that pistachio ice cream is the ice cream that ice cream makers judge one another by, Scoops' pistachio consistently tastes like it was made in New Jersey. It tastes like chemicals and artificial thickeners. The place looks and feels like a real old ice cream parlour. I just wish it made ice cream to match.

This place has really gone downhill since being taken over by new management. The service is shocking and so slow. The high turnover of new staff means they often can't work the till and you're left waiting for ages while they find all the buttons. Sandwiches are not made of the same high quality ingredients as before and the prices have gone up. Sad it's changed so much.

Ideal location right on the high street. Delicious gelato in lots of flavours. The coffee is great and there is a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.
