We wanted to get some dinner and everywhere was shut, being a Sunday and after 8 pm we couldn't find anywhere. Then we drove past Scoff’s by accident and saw the “open” neon sign, by the time we found parking they had closed up and shut down the cookers etc.. Looked well managed from the outside and in, so I tapped on the window and politely asked if was there any chance they wouldn't mind opening back up… usually this would be met with a - I am sorry but have shut for the evening. The couple who own Scoff’s were so lovely, they opened up and welcomed us in as if we were family, they started up the friers and made up Haddock, chips and curry sauce. It turned out they had been there for about a year running the business and had moved from the city where I currently live, small world hey! They were so chatty and lovely we ended talk I g about all sorts u til our dinner was ready, they even gave a commentary upgrade to a Large curry sauce, I couldn’t thank them both enough for their hospitality and kindness!! 🙏🏼 Now the Haddock & chips were incredible, with lovely crispy batter and tasty crunchy chips!! I would highly recommend you stop by if you are in the area or passing by as both the food and the hospitality were an evening to remember. Thank you both again!!

The best fish and chips I’ve eaten in a very long time. All freshly cooked and served promptly. The chips were crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy inside and the delicious cod had crisp golden batter. Service was excellent. The premises were modern and clean

The eating-in part of this Fish and Chips takeaway has recently been wonderfully re-done: table clothes, decorations, lights .... an absolutely brilliant place to eat! The staff are just so friendly! And to cap it all, the fish and chips are some of the best we've ever had!

Visited mid November while on holiday. we sat inside and the 3 of us had fish and chips. Large portions, gorgeous crispy batter covering the fish, which was perfectly cooked, and the chips were amazing; prices were also good. Service friendly and efficient. Well worth a visit and we wish we had a fish and chip shop nearby who offered quality like this.

Let's first say it isn't terrible, but it isn't anything close to good either. The food is pretty bland and the claim that it is home to the Yorkshire chip makes no real sense. You can go to many a chip shop in Yorkshire and enjoy a fantastic chip supper, but Scoffs is nowhere near fantastic. The staff are good and friendly, the prices are reasonable and it is a smart looking place. It's just the food that lets it down.Oh, and any place that only takes cash is not very convenient. It's also not ideal during the pandemic.

A girl was outside, offering 'free chips' to passers by and, coming from Yorkshire and being tempted by freebies, we tried one! It was really really good and so we hot-footed it across the road to the chippy to buy some! Although the chips looked strangely yellow, they were the best we'd ever tasted - a little spicy, hot and freshly cooked and very more-ish! Incidentally: the staff were very friendly and the toilets were spotless!

We were on a coach trip to Barnstaple and the coach stopped right outside and the driver said they were wonderful chips so, as it was lunchtime, we decided to try them. OAP Special of mini cod, chips and pot of tea £5 each. They were cooked in beef dripping and were lovely and crispy. We then went round the shops and stopped off for a cup of tea whilst waiting for the coach. The couple were really nice and couldn't do enough for you. We would certainly recommend them to anyone who enjoys good fish and chips.

I love fish and chips but live in the centre of England so they are always a disappointment. We tried the chips being offered as we walked passed and they were lovely fresh and crispy so once we had finished our trip around town we decided to go back to Scoff's and have fish and chip for lunch. They were superb, lovely batter, fresh tasty fish and excellent chips.

We went in for lunch and I had the AOP special of cod and chips and my wife had battered sausages and chips. I love fish and wasn’t expecting the delightful price of that I was served. Great batter that was hiding a great piece of fish. The cod was fresh and cooked perfectly. The flesh was translucent, gently falling apart and tasty. Thank you Scoffs, I highly recommend that you pay them a visit!

In Devon and popped in for a portion of chips on recommendation, the chips were different as they were advertised as Yorkshire chips which I think is with a batter coating. The chips were good and looking at the menu it all seemed reasonably priced. The staff were welcoming and chatty.

These are the best chips I have ever tasted, very lightly battered and delicious, not too greasy with lovely fluffy insides. Staff are a little eccentric but that's nfb . Place is clean, opening times are a bit odd so worth checking before you go but other than that this place gets the have also eaten fish here - very good.

We were visiting Barnstaple from Plymouth and decided to try Scoff`s. We are both a bit fussy about hygiene and always check a place out first. Well this place was looking good. Everything sparkly, the floor was clean, the stainless on the fryer gleaming and a nice airy feel.

Stopped off for lunch while in Barnstaple. Lady who served us was lovely. Didnt get her name but she said she normally worked at the shop in Paignton. She took our order promptly after letting us know the special of the day. The fish and chips were gorgeous and very filling. There was a lovely friendly atmosphere. Loos were nice and clean. Very good value

Visited this place having been unimpressed with another chip shop near by. I stumbled across it whilst walking around Barnstable. What sets this chip shop apart is that they appear to batter their chips, this adds a great crunch to them! Chips were excellent. Only down side was the cheese pasty which was pretty tasteless but overall recommended if in need of good chips.

Stopped off here for something quick to eat and this has to be rated as the best chippy in the whole south west . They are coated in batter which I believe gives the chips the unique taste. The owners are very polite and lovely people , very warm and welcoming. I recommend this place to anyone visiting Barnstaple . It's a shame that Wales doesn't have a scoffs branch

We tried the chips from outside which was good, so we decided to go in. Upon entering we was left waiting to be served due to the manager shouting at a female customer telling her she had a big mouth. He also made his colleague admit his performance was dreadful. We left out of awkwardness with not even an acknowledgement or an apology. Will not be going back.

Stumbled across the cafe when we arrived in Ilfracombe and needed coffee. Quaint and characterful and clearly has it's regular customers. Coffee was good and hot but the homemade Eccles cake was amazing! The other treats looked good too. Coming across The Naked Cake cafe was the best thing about Ilfracombe which was otherwise, tatty and very down at heel.

Lovely modern roomy lodges in a beautiful location. Breakfast choice was great, cooked breakfast very good & piping hot👍 Pub food also excellent, quick service, good choices. Most staff helpful & friendly. One member of staff who greeted us on arrival wasn't welcoming. Only a couple of minor things- rusty toilet roll holder which spoilt the rest of the very new bathroom & the shelf above sink is in the way. Suggestion - small fridge, there is room. Mirror near plug sockets. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Four of us popped in today and we were glad we did ! Looking through the window showed it was full but a table of four had just got up so we sat in their seats :) We all had the Breakfast at £11 each. Couldn’t fault the meal at all, plenty on the plate and locally sourced. Really good selection of coffee, tea and fresh orange 🍊 juice. Highly recommended Get a seat and order at the counter. Very pleasant polite service as well. Seating outside. Well done 👏👏
