The Crown in North Devon

Popped in for a drink on New Years, the place was buzzing, everyone was very friendly and the fireworks display was amazing!

We ate here two nights in a row. The food was great and service was friendly. A nice English pub.

Spent 4 days over Christmas a few doors down from this place so used the crown as a local. All the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Two of us ate here two nights, the food would be described as Traditional pub food ie - ham,egg,chips - lasagne - fish&chips. And it definitely did not disappoint! For the price I would recommend this place.

Really great atmosphere- friendly and warm with roaring log fire. Great food- basic but hot and well prepared. Would thoroughly recommend!

Lovely food excellent value for money, friendly staff and great service

Popped in for an early evening drink, during a short break in Lynton. Seemed to be a popular place, and after a quick look at the food menu, we decided to stay for dinner. The portions are very generous and prices very reasonable. I couldn't actually finish my pizza (unusual for me!) but they were more than happy to box up what I couldn't eat, to take away. Good choice of beers, friendly staff and a great, relaxed atmosphere, hence 5 stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

A lovely, cosy bar. Very friendly atmosphere. Beer well kept. Wonderful, original artwork by the fabulous, late Mick Cawston on the walls. Definitely worth a visit.

Pretty friendly staff, nice atmosphere and decent pub grub. Gets busy in the evening which speaks for itself. Only problem is it doesn't open for lunch in the week! Deffo worth a visit, the seafood basket was lovely, as were the draught ciders.

the loveliest dinner with 11 of my friends. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and extremely amusing, adding to the overall experience. Food was delicious, especially the Chocolate Torte dessert! Thank you so much to Caroline, Tony, and Laura on Monday night, 100% would come again!

We zijn hier twee keer gaan eten tijdens ons verblijf in Lynton. Het menu is gevarieerd en er zijn ook dagschotels. Er is ook een menu met glutenvrije gerechten beschikbaar. De prijsstelling is zeer aangenaam. We waren zeer tevreden over de verschillende gerechten: behoorlijke porties en zeer goede smaak. Het bedienend personeel was erg vriendelijk. Vooraf reserveren wordt aanbevolen.

If u are looking for slow chaotic service ( al la Fawlty Towers) and rude staff, then this is your place. I walked out....never done that before. There are plenty of better options in Lynton

We ate here and although the food wasn't gourmet it was cheap, cheerful and served with a smile. The dining room is bright and comfortable so probably a better place to eat than the bar area which could do with a good clean. If you are struggling to find something simple and pretty traditional pub fare give it a try.

Good atmosphere ,friendly staff and excellent menu at reasonable prices would definitely go back again.

Cracking pint of Tribute and really good pizza, lovely bar and very effiecient staff.

A quiet inn with lots of charm. Rooms upstairs, pub downstairs. Just the thing on our motorcycle tour. Unfortunately, we arrived quite late and completely wet, so we didn't feel like exploring the place anymore. The house is probably very old and very crooked. I lay with my head at the foot of the bed so I didn't have to sleep with my head down. Kind of funny. Totally fine for one night. Price-performance ratio is okay here. The food was good and plentiful, the beer was delicious! The staff attentive and nice. Even though we showed up dripping and packed like donkeys with five people, we were given a very warm welcome.

What a gem! We went there for two meals and it was absolutely fabulous. We were served by Caroline, who was great and she made our meal that much more memorable by her banter and quick wit. We thought she was a real treasure

Absolutely great hotel and restaurant, I arrived here with friends from our motorcycle club and couldn’t wish for better welcome and very friendly staff. The food was very tasty and plaint full. I hope that we will return here in the future.

Can only comment on the bar. Absolutely beautiful old traditional pub full of friendly staff, loyal customers, exhausted hikers and happy dogs. Really nice real ale and cider.

We went here for dinner twice during our stay in Lynton. The menu is varied and there are also daily specials. A menu with gluten-free dishes is also available. The pricing is very pleasant. We were very satisfied with the various dishes: decent portions and very good taste. The service staff was very friendly. Advance reservation is recommended.

Stayed on a campsite called sunny Lyn a mile away, we ate here a number of times and found the food and welcome very good, the murals on the walls by the late Mick Cawston are stunning, these are what i traveled over 150 miles to see, the food and drink and welcome was an added bonus, this is a stunning part of the country and thats coming from a welshman

Great food that catered for all our allergens, and perfect service.

Good pub food served by attentive waiter. Good range of local beers and ciders. The fish and chips went down very well. A good find.

We had an excellent homemade Sunday lunch with a selection of meats and fresh vegetables. Wonderful Yorkshire pudding.

We had a fabulous long weekend here back in early May. Very comfortable spacious room, large en-suite, (4-Poster bed !). The staff were helpful and friendly. Parking onsite is limited, but we did get a space. Just the best location, right in the heart of everything. Lovely pub right downstairs ! Food was great, breakfast was amazing, set us up for the whole day ! Would defiantly recommend staying here !

Popped in tonight for a pre dinner drink and what a lovely warm welcome in such lovely surroundings. Great pub atmosphere with some lovely local people to chat to. Next time we will eat here. A true British pub with great staff and customers. We are so lucky yo live close enough to visit these lovely places on a regular basis. We will be back 😃

Daniella was so friendly a pleasure to be served drinks in the garden by a lovely smiling person, who clearly enjoys her job.

Visited again on holiday here and it was just as good, good wholesome pub food at a great price. Small menu to choose from plus daily specials. All the staff where helpful and friendly which produces a great atmosphere to dine in , many thanks to Kiera also who ran the dining room to perfection and was extremely efficient

Good and quiet hotel. We got a large room for three people, so there was enough space. Good breakfast. Within walking distance of attractions.

What a great place to stay. Amazing fried breakfast this morning by such friendly and welcoming staff. Accommodated us whilst at a wedding. So friendly, bed was comfy and the. Had a really nice walk round the town after. Will definitely come again. Thank you.

The staff kindly managed to squeeze us in for a table to eat the food and drinks were lovely and the hotel was nice as well.

Food was brilliant and great value. Filling and loads of options for vegetarians which was very welcome! Staff friendly and looked after us well. Nestled away in Lynton, very warm and welcoming. Don't be put off if you've booked a table for food as visitors...when you walk in you'll think you've made a mistake as it's a small bar area mostly filled with locals. The tables and eating area is at the back and it's really nice. A good proper English pub. Highly recommend for food if visiting.

Disappointed, the pub looks amazing from outside and is very inviting, the inside is very comfortable unfortunately the staff not so. Barman friendly, one young waitress in particular definitely not so, can I suggest that if you are that stressed front of house isn't the job for you. You made it pretty obvious that we were an irritation when we asked for a menu ( we didn't stay to eat your attitude put us off) rushing about tutting and complaining shouldn't be done, you only come across as unable to cope, every customer is important to the business and unfortunately you lost the business cash by losing customers.

This is a basic pub with lots of locals in evidence at the bar. The restaurant area isn't large but we had booked ahead. Cod and chips for me, seafood basket for my wife with a side of coleslaw. All was good. My fish was perfectly cooked and quite substantial in size. My wife's seafood basket looked small but she was happy with what she got. And it was tasty. Our wine was a small bottle of red and one of white. One promoted by the pub . I enjoyed my white more than my wife enjoyed her red. The funniest part of the meal was overhearing the waitperson/waitress talking two guys on different tables out of ordering the Carlsberg and going for a local beer instead. Good pub grub.

We popped in for a drink on a weekend break to Lynton. Friendly staff, good range of drinks on offer, we didn’t try the food (as we’d already eaten) but it looked like good and reasonably priced.

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay at the hotel. Management and staff worked extremely hard to tend to their guests every need.

Well what can one say! What a pleasure it was to stay here. The staff went over and above hospitality. Nothing was to much trouble. Even letting us go for breakfast before the normal time as we had an early start to the day. The room was fantastic. I was very happy to get a 4 poster bed. Food was wholesome and had a different special every night.

Really good old fashioned pub with paintings of “dogs” depicting people who were linked to the pub. Fab lunch (seafood basket) and dog friendly will definitely come back if in the area.

Went for Sunday lunch. Always advise you book as can get busy especially in high season. Roast was fab - choice of three meats (could mix) copious fresh veg well cooked and all the trimmings/sauces etc. It’s obviously not fine dining but at £11.95 it’s great value for money. Both had puddings which were very tasty and well presented. The Crown does pub grub at its best - reasonably priced, no frills, well cooked food. We’ll definitely be back!

Dropped in for an evening meal and found it to be a lovely pub with a relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the fish and chips which was very nicely cooked and highly enjoyable.

A lovely welcoming pub with friendly staff. The menu has a good choice of meals. We went for an evening meal on Good Friday and had lovely cod and chips. We also went on Easter Sunday and had a roast which was delicious. The meals are very reasonably priced and service was very quick. It is wise to book as the pub gets very busy. We have been to the Crown the last three times we have stayed in Lynton and it has always been great food and great service.

We’ve ate here a couple of times now over the years and it’s always been consistent. Pub grub at reasonable prices. Nothing to set the world alight but does what it says on the tin. New barman behind the bar is excellent. Great to see people who are passionate about their jobs and he certainly is!

This is a good choice for eating dinner out in Lynton. Friendly staff, good beer and a choice including specials. Along with typical food such as fish and chips / lasagne they do a chilli, a curry and I enjoyed a risotto as a special. There was a good choice of vegetarian options too. It's popular so you are wise to book ahead. It's all very reasonably priced.

On balance it is probably best to book which we hadn't. Fortunately we were accommodated as we were there early in the evening. Friendly, chatty staff. Good service. Prawn salad and crab cakes were lovely. Excellent value

Nice pub, food disappointing- £15.95 for fish and chips which was frozen and another frozen meal, veg lasagna, not worth the money -

This place is honestly hands down the best place ever!!! The staff are amazing and the food is amazing. The first night we stopped in we had the scampi and seafood basket, and the second night we went to another pub down the street and ended up leaving to come here for the second night in a row for pizza onion rings and a pint. I would highly recommend stopping in they made our whole trip

Staff very helpful in finding a table during a busy time. Food was lovely and nice atmosphere. Dog friendly too. We came back for a second evening. Recommended to book as it can get busy!

Failing which, based on the two mains we had, you'd have the same food if you defrosted a low end ready meal.

Visited here with family a couple of weeks ago. We stopped by a few times for drinks during our holiday but only once for food. Had great service and nice friendly atmosphere but unfortunately the visit when we ate was somewhat spoiled. My mother in law has gluten intolerance and asked for the gluten free menu. She ordered the ham egg and chips from the GF menu but unfortunately after the meal she experienced the negative effects of eating gluten and her stomach was upset for several days.

Very genuinely friendly staff. Food excellent we both had seafood baskets which seemed to be a popular choice and wow it did not fail to please. Food arrived within a reasonable time and the price including a bottle of wine and beers was Under £60. Bargain. Overall highly recommended just be aware opening hours are limited.

A lovely Olde Worlde pub in the centre of picturesque Lynton. The food and drinks were served by a wonderfully attentive and cheerful guy (the one with the ponytail) and the portions were extremely generous. Great selection of drinks and dog-friendly too! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience. Very highly recommended.

This is a great place for an informal dinner. We also had Sunday lunch there. Good food,good value for money,good service and friendly.

Visited on Sunday 2nd July. Lady behind the bar was rude when finally got to it to order after a fifteen min wait. I suspect because we ordered late the chef couldn't be bothered to put much effort in. Food looked awful. We had ham, egg, chips (they served sandwich ham from a packet) and sausage and mash in a Yorkshire pudding... no Yorkie, cheap sausages, watery mash, enough peas to serve a family of five and tasteless gravy.

The evening we were here it was exceptionally busy but the service was excellent. The chap behind the bar seemed to be everywhere, taking orders, serving etc, he was so efficient. The food was great and the atmosphere really nice. We have visited the area many times but never been to The Crown before, we were recommended by a local which says a lot I think. We would definitely consider staying there too.

Glad we booked as it was busy. The vegetarian risotto was really tasty. Lots of different vegetables cooked to perfection. Followed by sticky toffee pudding and caramel cheesecake. A very good meal. Staff were very nice too.

We stayed in Lynton for 6 nights & each evening we called at a local for an evening drink at one of the pubs in either Lynton or Lynmouth, & this is by far the most expensive.

We ate here for 3 nights running and each meal was excellent. The staff are very friendly with great senses of humour.

You must definitely visit this pub for food and friendliness. Sunday Lunch is a must. Best pizza we’ve had and with a choice of tasty toppings, you make up your own pizza. If you eat after 5pm, we’d recommend booking a table.
