Stumbled across the cafe when we arrived in Ilfracombe and needed coffee. Quaint and characterful and clearly has it's regular customers. Coffee was good and hot but the homemade Eccles cake was amazing! The other treats looked good too. Coming across The Naked Cake cafe was the best thing about Ilfracombe which was otherwise, tatty and very down at heel.

We visited the naked bakery today at lunchtime and were lucky enough to have a set meal, one of their Thursday lunches . The chicken pie roast potatoes and veg, jam sponge and custard was delicious. The atmosphere lovely and friendly and the ladies who worked there were a delight. I wouldn’t hesitate in returning or recommending this cafe. The style is cosy and personal and we watched as everyone who arrived including us were treated with care and kindness . Lovely !!!

We found The Naked Cake by chance when my 6 year old did the dreaded 'Mummy I'm hungry' whinge while on holiday. We went in and loved the friendly welcome and the kids loved the Halloween decorations. A quick cuppa turned into lunch for 3 adults and 2 kids once we'd seen the menu! Delicious food and good selection selection kids and adult and great quality. We enjoyed it so much we took some of the homemade cakes away with us to eat on the beach later. Hope very much that we get to come back one day! Thank you!

Visited on holiday in Ilfracombe with family. It has a very dull courtyard and the only attraction here is the food. The Naked Cake is a street Café in Ilfracombe, serving nice cakes and quality food and coffee. The downside is the inflated prices here for a rather dull Café experience. It must be very hard for Ilfracombe locals paying tourist prices, and it really isn't fair on them at all.

Had a fantastic lunch here. The food was fresh and delicious. I enjoyed a baked potato loaded with cheese and my husband had a very well filled BLT. We both had tea and a slice of homemade Bakewell Tart too - scrumptious. In all our enjoyment, my husband forgot to save a morsel of bacon for a Fox terrier, who had been waiting very patiently under the table. The super staff came out with a couple of rashers of bacon for him so he wasn’t left out - superb! So kind. Highly recommended.

As we was walking round the town along the main street of shop, I saw a few outdoor tables and seats but as got close to the place, a lady was taking down the bunting, I asked if she was closing and she replied if we would just like drinks as it was getting on towards 3pm, my wife popped in with my son with autism to pay as Im on crutches and the lady bought out the coffees and my sons pop. The lady was very friendly and we would certainly pop back here again when on holiday

Just walked out. Awful service. We were let in and to be fair the lady that ‘greeted’ said ‘I don’t know how long you’ll be waiting but they’ll be a wait’ we replied, no worries, happy to wait. It was raining so we were just after coffees. It wasn’t that busy, about 4 tables full. Admittedly it was lunch time, but a woman came in for takeaway coffees and was serviced instantly. It was a shame really as the food and place looked lovely. Think we waited for 15 mins, then gave up and left. No one said anything as we got up and went.

We popped in to The Naked Cafe today to get out of the pouring rain and couldn’t have made a better choice. When ordering two fruit scones we were told that they had sold out but that if we didn’t mind waiting 15 minutes, they would bake some new ones. Having drunk our coffee whilst we waited, we were offered a free coffee when the scones arrived as they’d been slightly longer than suggested - we hadn’t minded the wait as we’d been told in advance but the lady serving us insisted we had another. The scones were delicious and all the people serving were very friendly. We will certainly pop into the cafe at its new home if we return to Ilfracombe!

Order our food and drinks but order was short so after we asked where missing item was and was told we had never order it , even though it was the first thing I asked for, Reordered and sat there another 20 minutes so I went in and asked and was are reorder to be told you have to pay first ???? Now we had finished and been waiting 40 minutes so we just left and went to the next place because my wife hadn't eaten , its was rude and unacceptable behaviour and sadly they knew we had reordered but noone had the decently to come out and say pay first even though I was eating and it was their mistake . A lesson in public relations is needed whether she was the owner or just a member of staff , personal issues or emotion should never run a bussiness

Every time we visit Ilfracombe, my kids always insist on a visit to The Naked Cake. The cakes are brilliant and the cream teas are both delicious and well priced. The tea room itself is quintessentially British with a lovely, homely feel. I hope that the move to the High Street will offer more space, but will retain that cosy feel. I've been to many tearooms across the country- but none are as good as this little corner of Ilfracombe. I don't know the reasons for their projected move, but the promenade will be a much emptier place without it.

I was totally overwhelmed by the amount of care and attention which went into the thoughtful and so very tasty picnic. We had quiche, savoury scones & pickles, cheeses, salad with dips, sandwiches, crisps, fruit, slice of cake, cup cakes and bread pudding. Every mouthful was amazing and so very reasonable on price. It was an awesome scone, don't get me wrong, but most scones and clotted creams tastes the same to me. The jam seemed good quality though but I give extra points when things are homemade. We had the large cream tea option which came with 2 scones, clotted cream and jam but only one cup of tea! Considering how little tea actually costs I think they could offer two teas with this option, especially for the price. We sat on the couch inside which was comfy. there's a nice ambience, seating outside too, but there is only one toilet which caused a big queue. Much better to just finish your food and use the free toilets at the theatre across the road.

We had visited a tea room nearer to the harbour on our first day in ilfracombe and had tuna sarnies which were absolutely delicious and filled to the brim and gorgeous fresh bread so when we chose to visit the naked cake we were expecting better as they were £2.40 dearer. We had to wait almost half an hour and when they arrived we were very unimpressed the bread was dry round the edges there was not much tuna it was mostly mayonnaise and butter and the way it was presented was very poor for how much they cost £6.95. We wouldn't recommend there are far nicer tea rooms with gardens you can sit in and relax rather than sitting alongside a busy road.

However if you’re dairy free there aren’t many options, but I did manage to have the soup. Unfortunately the soup was not nice and very tasteless but the soya latte was nice and my partner loved his tea, but says his cake was average. We visited here on our last day on our week long holiday in Devon and decided to pop in here for a cream tea but now wish we didn’t! My partner wanted a plain scone with jam and clotted cream so I went up to order this however the lady at the till was very confused and asked if I wanted a fruit scone to which I advised we did not. She then went ahead and said that the charge would be £2.95 (the cost of a fruit scone) which I challenged as I only ordered a plain scone which would have been £2.75, this however confused the lady even more so I just took the loss of 20p. Following this we were then told they have no plain scones; a touch bizarre as my mother in front of us had just been told they had put a new batch of them in the oven. We were therefore told we would have to have a fruit scone (either strawberry or blueberry), the decision was strawberry. We thought the confusion and incompetence of the staff may just be a one-off thing but every customer that seemed to go up to order had some sort of problem; we even saw one table return their scones as they were completely wrong. As we were sat at a table with our family we were waiting on a couple of orders - one of which was brought to us twice and we had to explain that we had already been given the order in question. By this point it had been about 15 minutes since we ordered our scone and other tables had ordered and already been given their food, we therefore asked where our scone was and the woman at the counter again strangely had no recollection of taking this, again asking us what kind of scone we wanted so to avoid any further confusion we just gave in and said a strawberry one (although we’d have preferred a plain one) which then arrived shortly after. In this place’s defence the scones weren’t bad and the sandwiches were apparently good- just a shame that the service is horrendous, I would not advise visiting here, try someone else if you actually want to get what you order!

No menus on table upon arrival so I picked some up from near the counter, which was noticed by the staff. After we had made our choices I ordered at the counter but was told that they weren't doing any savoury food as there were only 2 people on. This discounted two thirds of the menu and only left drinks and cakes available. Three cream teas arrived with an apology (again, there are only two of us on!) and was delicious - the tastiest scones in Ilfracombe. First ever cream tea for us and it was so nice. Big hot scones with generous amounts of jam and clotted cream. Kids loved being able to have tea and cake with us. I would definitely return.

Just popped in for a drink of tea before catching the bus back to where we were staying on holiday. Seating inside and out. Fresh and clean decoration. Pleasant staff. Would pop in again if in the area for tea and cake as they looked lovely.

We stopped at The Naked Cake after walking a section of the SW Coast path and enjoyed two very good cups of hot coffee and a delicious slice of home-made Bakewell tart. The service was friendly and efficient - overall very enjoyable.

This lovely little place clearly gets very busy so make sure you leave yourself plenty of time top visit as it not something you want to rush! The is the most amazing selection of cakes and scones as well as meals. We opted for cakes and a scone and a cup of coffee. The cakes were simply delicious, the coffee was fantastic (and I am hard to please when it comes to coffee!) but the scones were simply the best I have ever tasted. Light, yet moist, cakey and flufly, everything the perfect scone should be.

Although on the promenade away from the sea front, there is a dresser with china cups and the place itself is OK. We sat out front with the dogs. 3 teas, 1 Latte and "home made" cakes. Didn't taste home made to me but what do I know, I do know that when I went in for a glass of water because my wife's coffee was too strong they wanted 60p for the privilege , I said we've just spent well over £10 here and you want 60p, her mate confirmed it. I wasn't happy and obviously didn't go there again. What however, is so staggering about this lack of service to a paying customer is that they put out a big bowl of water for the dogs !!! Barmy.

I realise that, as Naked Cake isn't a licensed premises they can charge for tap water but felt that 60p for a glass seemed a little excessive. Keep Britain Tidy has issued recommendations aimed at improving the public's access to drinking water.

Popped in for a light lunch. Hubby and I had toast and mushrooms - both were disappointed with the amount of mushrooms as we are mushroomaholics - but it was tasty enough. Our son had ham and cheese on toast which looked much more substantial. We had some yummy cakes as well - no complaints there!

However you pronounce "scone",these fruit ones were divine; warm from the oven with a large portion of jam and clotted cream. The coffee was good, service fast and friendly with nice firm comfortable sofas. There was a huge selection of cakes and also a gourmet range of toast toppings that sounded delicious. There is also a menu for smaller appetites and jacket potatoes. Highly recommended.

Good coffee. Good cake. Friendly staff. Clean, comfy and bright with nice view. It might seem like not a big deal but lots of places dont seem to be able to manage it and rely on location alone. Would recommend a visit

Das "The naked cake" liegt optimal an der "Seaside" in Ilfracombe und ist das, was ich mir als Deutscher unter einer modernen "typisch englischen Teestube" vorstelle.

Well the coffee was great, went back again and it was still great. The cinnamon swirl was great how do you choose with so much lovely cakes on offer, Missed out on the Victorian sponge wonder if they could post me a few slices.
