We are visiting the area and were delighted to see this pub was local and dog friendly, so checked it out with the mind to have a few evening/lunchtime meals during our stay. So we went late afternoon and had a couple of drinks. All was well, we sat in the bar with our two very well behaved dogs as it was raining. When it stopped raining we stepped out into the front pub garden. There were Guinea pigs in a cage, so my partner walked over with our (very well behaved) Labrador to have a look. The dog was sniffing the cage and wagging her tail. Not barking/growling, jumping up or anything like that. We are animal lovers, and have kept Guinea pigs for years and would defo not scare little furries! Next thing a short fat woman came out of the pub and I heard her say something like ‘your dog is terrorising the Guinea pigs’! I heard my partner laugh, and I too thought she was joking! The Guinea pigs were definitely not stressed…..one came out to say hello! It turned out she wasn’t joking as she then became quite angry at us and marched back into the pub! I’m not actually sure who she was….the landlady or a local nutcase! Just to say that if you were the landlady and you think your Guinea pigs will become stressed by friendly people and dogs in your busy ‘dog friendly’ pub garden, I suggest you remove them to a less public place. Simple. If not maybe you should consider a new vocation. Safe to say that was our first and last visit, so cannot comment on the food. Your loss.

My partner and I are currently in Prixford on holiday and fancied a Sunday lunch. We found this Inn close by and took our chances. What a quaint pub! Very good first impressions- clean, well presented areas for sitting outside, the bar and eating areas. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We ordered the Sunday lunch and extras and we weren't disappointed at all. It was like having a homemade lunch - lovely crispy roast potatoes, creamy leeks were amazing, selection of fresh vegetables just to my liking with my favourite being the red cabbage. The chef even accommodated my request of no gravy! What more could you ask for - except the amazing desserts! The mixed berry sundae was enormous with lashings of ice cream and cream! The toffee apple and cinnamon sponge was also very light and tasty. All I can say is - keep up the excellent work everybody! You definitely have a fantastic inn in the most beautiful and peaceful surroundings.

Two of us went for lunch mid week and enjoyed a great meal at the newly reopened Muddiford Inn. The interior is pleasant; rustic pub with friendly staff. There is an outdoor seating area where people were sat enjoying the sun. The food was sensational. Good sized portions and possibly one of the best steak pie and chips I have had ever had! Will definitely return.

It has been opened again with different personal and we called in for lunch on a Friday. very pleasant it was with a wonderful welcome and excellent food . Booked online via the pub website for dinner 48 hours in advanced. When we turned up, the pub was closed with the car park gates firmly locked shut. Poor form from the pub - if you’re going to be closed make sure your online booking system reflects this as I’m sure this has happened to many other people. We tried calling but no answer, the phone just rings and rings. I can’t rate the food, service or atmosphere as we didn’t even get inside the pub! Don’t bother and drive a bit further into Barnstaple where you’re guaranteed an open pub! **review edited to respond to owners response** Thanks for your response. My husband booked the booking under his name and email - so you wouldn’t have had my details to contact me, and to insinuate that we have put them down incorrectly is ridiculous - regardless, he didn’t receive any communication from you, calls voicemails or emails, and before you ask yes he checked his junk inbox!

Most of us haven't been there for three years of more, but this has highlighted what we've been missing. Amazing local pub/bistro that’s highly regarded by local people and tourists. I have loved this place, and many others have, for 20 years and more. It’s amazing! Great location, food and drink. We have spent Xmas and New Years there (important for us as a family) and hope to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary there in August this year. We have lots of options, having worked and lived in most U.K. Cities and abroad, but honestly, this place is amazing. Nothing compares. The best Sunday Lunch h I have had in my life. We were hoping for Sunday lunch, but I didn't receive a warm welcome from the lady behind the bar to say the least, no smile, I was made to feel like an inconvenience. I asked if we could have lunch, she immediately asked me if we had booked In an unfriendly way, I told her I called an hour ago, and was told that if we arrived before 2pm we could have lunch. I should have realized that even this phone conversation didn't feel very welcoming it should have been a warning. I ordered drinks and the lady asked where we were sitting, I said on the table on the grass. I was immediately barked at "NO NO NO IF YOU ARE EATING YOU NEED TO SIT ON THE PATIO". Well how about putting a sign up then? Unless you prefer to shout at customers? After I asked for a drink she then asked a stranger next to me what he wanted, she made the assumption we were together. Her attitude towards me from the very beginning was unfriendly and hostile, my face must have showed the shock I felt that she thought it was ok to speak to customers like they are naughty children. She told me I was glaring at her, and I replied that I was shocked at the way she was speaking to me. I have never experienced someone in a customer service role behaving like this to customers. I can only assume they were having a very very bad day. She asked me to leave which I gladly did, we went to the Williams Arms where the service is polite, welcoming and civil and the food is wonderful and not overpriced. There have been so many owners of the Muddiford Inn in the last few years, I don't think these people will last if this is the way they do business. What a shame.

The Muddiford Inn may be a pub by name but it's primarily a restaurant although it does offer one draught beer. Have visited twice in the last couple of months and have been impressed both times. Two different menus (not necessarily the one on their website) with interesting choices mostly not what I would call pub grub. The food was extremely enjoyable, the service was very good and the establishment has nice atmosphere. The second visit was with a group of 12, they looked after us very well and everyone came away very satisfied. The inn may be a little off the beaten track but it's well worth a visit and highly recommended.

Seriously disappointed. Won’t be going back. My starter was ok but my husband’s squid starter (5 small pieces for £9.50) was cold -it was clearly cooked from frozen and we had to send it back. We both had fish and chips for mains but the “chips” were thick wedges and inedible. I’ve no idea how they did it but they were so dry inside we just couldn’t eat them. We asked if they had an alternative to mushy peas and the waitress said she’d ask but didn’t come back so our mains were just served without any. We ordered a side dish of seasonal veg but it was just a dish of unseasoned badly prepared microwaved veg. Some items like the cabbage were overcooked whereas the carrots were so hard you could hardly cut them. No seasoning. No butter. Just watery. The fish was ok but small for £18. We really wanted this to be nice as it was our first time but we were very disappointed. At £68 for 2 courses and two beers it wasn’t cheap either.

Have been here twice before and on both occasions it was lovely, food was 1st class, owners were very friendly and welcoming and there was a great atmosphere. After these visits we decided to go for Christmas day lunch and decided to take my parents as a special Christmas present, as we never know what to get so at £85.95 each for a 3 course meal we booked for the 4 of us. Well we were disappointed there was very basic table decorations no welcome either with a merry Christmas from owners or any staff or even a welcome drink, 2 of us had the prawn and crab cocktails which were in a glass that was narrow at top and wide at bottom and only a fork to eat it with so in end had to pour out onto saucer to eat, the mains all were ok as was the desserts however we did have to go at get someone to get us a spoon to eat dessert as we had to use for the vegetables on main as we were not given any. All in all for the money that was paid the food and presentation and atmosphere were not up to the normal high standard that we have had before when we have visited. I know its Christmas and you expect to pay more due to staff etc working on Christmas day, but sadly on this occasion we were disappointed.

After purchasing drinks I asked if we could get a menu for food and was told that they would double check to see if they could squeeze us in. After 10 minutes nobody had come back to us and we had to ask again and were told they couldn't serve us food. Little wonder so many independent pubs close down with this level of service. *Update* as you can see from their response, this is a highly unprofessional outfit. For clarity the complaint is about having to ask the same question 3 times before getting an answer. Beautiful pub with top notch food a theme of us travelling around Devon. Plenty of choice on menu and Pub Classic Board Had the Thai Spiced Soup to start and a Chicken Caesar Salad was bloody beautiful. Service was excellent. Dog friendly Another classic pub to visit we will be back.

Mussels delicious as was calamari. Once we were seated at our table service was good but unfortunately that was over an hour later than the time we'd booked for.

We're currently on holiday in the area and have been to this pub twice in a couple of days. First for Sunday lunch which was so great we had to come back mid week! Our second visit was just as amazing - we'll be back again before we go home. Incredible food and a lovely team. Thank you!

We stopped here by chance after a day at the beach. The pub has clearly been recently renovated and is in a lovely setting. The food was fantastic, particularly the chalk stream trout and slow cooked pork belly. Special mention for the homemade ice creams,...

My family and I visited the Muddiford Inn this week for a dinner whilst on holiday. The food was lovely, service was great, the setting and atmosphere was inviting. I had a steak which was cooked perfectly, just as I asked for. If we are on holiday again in the area we will definitely be back.

Love old country pub with superb food and friendly staff. Welcomed with a smile by the staff, nice selections of drinks, ciders, beers, lagers and wines. The fine dining foods were lovely, we had risotto and thai curry, after a lovely starter, the portions were just right. We moved into the comfy seats by the bar after our meal and had a drink. Staff were happy with this. Nice garden with plenty of seats and huge car park over the road.

Visited The Crown for a drink. We waited for an acknowledgement from the barmaid. It didn’t come. Still waited. Still didn’t come. She was very busy serving 2 women who were sat at the bar. Still no acknowledgement, so we chose to leave and although we are here for a long weekend, we will not be bothering to go there again. Great welcome for holiday makers.

Stumbled across the cafe when we arrived in Ilfracombe and needed coffee. Quaint and characterful and clearly has it's regular customers. Coffee was good and hot but the homemade Eccles cake was amazing! The other treats looked good too. Coming across The Naked Cake cafe was the best thing about Ilfracombe which was otherwise, tatty and very down at heel.

We have just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay . Amazing views from our room, extremely comfy bed, fantastic food & a beautiful hotel. It is pricey but you get what you pay for. But by far the best thing about this hotel is the staff. Each and every member of staff is attentive, professional but also friendly and approachable. We will return as soon as possible.
