Can’t describe how belittled we felt when entering for a family sit down lunch and coffee with 6 of us, 1 dog and one person in a wheelchair. Granted it was busy but we walked in and made ourselves known to staff who said they’d be a minute and we even stood by a dirty table, cleared the plates up for staff and waited for it to be cleaned until a clean table came free in the main part of the restaurant. All the while a big group of 10 came in after us and looked as though manager bent over backwards to accommodate them, moving tables and chairs for them. But for h’us? We weren’t even allowed to move 1 chair so we could sit round one table and even told us he couldn’t accommodate us. We were so shocked and embarrassed at how he spoke to us we didn’t even speak up there but feel that this treatment was so improper and unprofessional to make us feel so discriminated against.

My family and I went in to get some breakfast and as soon as we walked into the door, there was 8 of us, we were given a dirty look from the man behind the counter. When we went to order, the man refused to substitute any of the items on the breakfast. Then when we asked for a small portion of chips, he outright refused. We tried to explain it was for an autistic child who struggles with change but he still refused and was downright rude to my mother. We decided to just get drinks and he put them through with what I can only describe as a triumphant look on his face. When our drinks came over, we spoke to one of the ladies and she agreed that he was out of order. She was absolutely lovely and managed to get a portion of chips for us. She was the only person that made us feel as though our presence was valued. The man behind the counters behaviour was abhorrent and we won't be returning. This is the first place in Woolacombe we have disliked and it is completely disappointing. Every other member of staff we spoke to was absolutely excellent and we thank them entirely for their accommodation. It was just the man that let the whole place down. The rest of the staff deserve a medal. If only for putting up with this man 😂.

The first time we tried to come in to this cafe within opening hours, we were refused entry because it was ‘closed’. No signage to inform you of opening hours but it was an hour earlier than it says online. The second day when we did get in, we attempted to order hot food only to be told rudely and abruptly by an old man behind the counter that they stopped serving hot food, he did not have the patience to wait for us to rethink our order and was very agitated, he wasn’t very welcoming of children either. The food was good but the price was not! Very expensive for what it was! The rest of the staff seemed very miserable as well. I would not go again from the attitude of the staff, but I suppose they don’t really care as a lot of their customers will be tourists visiting for the first time. Not a welcoming place at all!

Have been coming to woolacombe for more than 20 years finally decided to come here for coffee and cake as it was nice and quiet. Cake portions were good and tea and milkshake was nice. Plates were clean but chipped and teapot was damaged and saucer chipped. Napkins were damp but offered replacements and the place was generally in need of cleaning and decorating. I know they are going to knock it down and rebuild a new purpose built pavilion type building and I hope they decide to keep the cafe but they do need to replace some of they furniture and bits also the staff need new uniform as the tshirts looked tired and aprons looks old.

We initially stopped here for a drink and were taken back by the wonderful views, friendly staff, and the offering in the menu! We returned the following day and had the BEST breakfast Woolacombe has to offer. Despite it being really busy, we were seated quickly, and the staff were great, not only attentive but also keeping up with the demand coming through the door! I 100% recommend this place. It's a gem that's worth a visit!

Very popular café with incredible views over the beach and delicious food, coffee and great service. We had the Devon breakfast, vegan breakfast, flat whites and a bloody mary. Couldn't fault it. Two members of staff were friendly enough, but a third (a middle-aged lady) certainly wasn’t; unsmiling and abrupt to us and other customers! The table menus were soiled, nevertheless we ordered two sausage baps and coffees. The coffee was fine but the sausages were not, they looked and tasted heavily processed and quite inferior. A shame really, the views outside are lovely but we certainly didn’t enjoy our visit to the Beachcomber Cafe.

Popped in after teens had been on a sunrise horse ride on the beach - expecting nothing but a cuppa but were pleasantly suprised. I'm coeliac and tend not to bother eating out, just have a coffee, and one of the teens is severely nut allergic. Neither of us like making a fuss but this place was really - quietly - helpful (no eye-rolling, many thanks). Man at desk who took our order particularly so. Pointed me away from things that might have gluten cross-contamination and were reassuring about nut risks. Huge thank you

We came here for breakfast after a 5 hr journey and waited for a table for 20 minutes before a rude male approached us to tell us to wait outside. The weather was extremely windy and there was no consideration for the fact I am very heavily pregnant and had already been stood waiting 20 minutes. The food was nice but the certain server was very abrupt and showed poor customer service skills, other staff members were lovely and it’s a shame he let his team down! Don’t bother with the iced latte, there was no milk, just a watery icey coffee.

When we mentioned our disappointed we were treated with derision and even smirked at by three staff members!! This establishment is purely relying on it's location and not it's culinary expertise! I ordered something incredibly simple - one beans on toast and one scrambled eggs on toast and when it arrived I only had the scrambled eggs (if you can call it that! It was a fried egg chopped up with a knife) and no beans on toast. When I questioned this to the staff, they told me that I hadn't asked for the beans on toast! I was then presented with a tiny pot of beans which was not what I asked for.

Worst customer service I have had in a long time! Staff were rude and unfriendly particularly the guy who I assume is the manager. Didn’t even have any consideration for his staff. After my interaction with him at the bar where I was made to feel patronised and inconvenient I would normally have left. However I thought “im on holiday I’ll let it ride”. I sat for over an hour next to the bar and listened to him bigging himself up and putting the others down. Absolutely cringeworthy. I ordered poached eggs on toast. Now I’m used to big city prices but even this was a new low for me. I got 2 small eggs, one of which was still raw. I sent it back, got cold toast and my original eggs, again one of which was uncooked and I had to leave it. What a shame …. The place is in one of the most beautiful locations but I wouldn’t go back. I’ll grab an ice cream instead!

I wasnt going to write a review but for the sake of helping a business i thought i should. I actually run and am a shareholder in quite a successful group of cafes and restaurants so this doesnt come as a hobbyist or enthusiast. 1. When you employ older staff - customers assume they are their because they have the relevant experience and are authorised to lead. The gentleman on the till was an older guy who seemed to be appointed the leader - however was very clueless to all of the requirements of maintaining a structure throughout the day. Taking orders but not understanding the knock on effect if at any point theres a build up of tickets or tables waiting - i can only assume the kitchen works through gritted teeth when it’s like that. The amount of staff you guys have you could easily take the orders from customers without them coming up to the table, this actually means you get to control the waves of customers coming through the door and release the burden on some of the talented staff you have (the young girls getting battered on the coffee machine) 2. Too many staff not knowing how to talk to customers properly. There was multiple bad interactions that could have been handled differently - one that stuck out was an east asian man asking where his food was a curt ‘its coming’ followed… guys, even if its cursory… walk away check the ticket and come back… it breeds confidence. 3. You struggle poaching eggs. Throw the thing you’re using away and stick to a big pan of water with white vinegar in. It will cook the membrane immediatley and hold the egg together. Thank me later. You could even cook these the day before and regen them for one minute in hot water - they will fly out. 4. The guy in scenario 1. When asked if i could order some sides he curtly cut off mid sentence and said “we dont do that”… ok, didnt want an argument but what if i just ordered eggs on toast then a load of sides? Could you still do that? This guy didn’t want customers at all - he wanted them to leave. 5. I watched 3 different tables of 2 people come in and get told they were not allowed to put an extra chair on a 2 seater. I then watched the same guy… shake someones hand, who then said he needed a table for 3… “dont worry I’ll sort you out” and guess what! He added another chair to the table of 2… HAVE CONSISTENCY. This could be a great place but until the older experienced people step up, you’ll be annoying customers and not making enough money.

My family and I stopped by for a quick bit of lunch at 15:40, which I didn’t think would be an issue as the cafe closed at 5. The veggie/vegan options seemed appealing. I asked a senior waitress if we could bring the dog in, she was initially very friendly, stating we could. My wife and I asked for veggie breakfast burritos which they didn’t have, fair enough. We then mis-read the menu thinking we could order falafel, but this was actually an accompanying side to a £9.00 salad bowl, which would have come to £14 each, so we passed on that. An honest mistake on our part, but the young waitress serving us was very patronising and did not hide the fact she was exasperated with us, making us feel like an inconvenience. At this point, she told us the kitchen would be closing in 5 minutes and hurried us along. We tried our luck asking for veggie or vegan breakfasts, but not available. At this point we were happy to just have a drink and place our kids food order. Then, the waitress loudly declares to the senior waitress how she “wished it was Friday so she could go home!” Pretty funny really; she didn’t need to say this as it was already obvious that she didn’t want to be there. We tried to order our daughter an Eggs Benedict, but that wasn’t available either. Finally, when asking for fresh orange juice, she replies with, you’ve guessed it, “sorry there’s none available, only squash.” At this point we replied “don’t worry we’ll leave it thank you.” As we walked out the senior waitress said sarcastically “oh dear thats bad timing”, and the 2 of them sniggered as we left. Clearly they’re making lots of profit, as they didn’t want our business.

Went to try this cafe today. Sadly it was absolutely pouring with rain when we went and all of the tables were full. Fair enough. Spoken to by an older man who immediately told us that if we wanted a table we'd need to wait outside. We had my 6 year old and dog with us so asked if we could wait near the entrance and get a takeaway coffee. This was flatly refused, despite me raising concerns about waiting in the pouring rain with a child. No kindness or consideration and on the way out we tried to Google somewhere else to go, and as we were doing this the man came back and more or less threw us out, very rude and no consideration or kindness for us as potential customers. I hope staff are treated with more respect than we were. Terrible, terrible service and attitude.

I have been visiting this cafe with my son for 10 years and it has always been fantastic. Now it has become an overpriced fancy restaurant. £7.00 for beans on toast!! Really!! I asked for an ice latte for my son. He has these everywhere and never complained. It cost £3.90. It was disgusting. Extremely strong and no milk just water and ice. I couldn’t drink it either. I asked if he could have a milkshake instead as the item is not as described but they refused to replace it and I had to purchase the milkshake at £4.50 so it cost me nearly £10 to have a drink. I have never been anywhere where the staff have not been accommodating if the customer is not happy with their purchase. I was then thrown dirty looks by staff the whole time we were there making it a very upsetting experience. I will not be returning.

As we ordered the food, the staff at the till were rude and blunt. My husband asked whether I (8.5 months pregnant, with nausea) could have the Stacked Pancakes with the condiments on the side. An older member of staff immediately butted in the conversation despite the member of staff on the till saying yes and said that it was not possible. Despite being possible with the second option of pancakes which came without fruit and that if I wanted to have the condiment on the side I needed to order the other option (a completely different meal with bacon and eggs rather than banana strawberry and blueberries). Overall, food and location are good but the staff really ruined the experience.

Came for breakfast as was one of the few cafes that allowed dogs inside. Lovely setting overlooking the beach. Friendly staff. However a little disappointed as eggs were a little too underdone. Main issue was the fact that, despite stating they are dog friendly, you are not allowed a bowl of water for your dog inside. Been told to go outside to drink because it might spill. With the greatest of respect, you risk spilling your drink as an adult or even with kids. Allowing dogs in also risks the occasional accident inside. So seems totally illogical to prevent dogs from having access to fresh water inside whilst owners dine. Wouldn't really return based on that unless I sat outside which isn't ideal this time of year. Otherwise it's a lovely cafe.

Love this place. Woolacombe beach is lovely.... October and we were swimming in the sea... who'd have thought it! Then safe in the knowledge we could have great food and drink with a superb view of the whole beach. Service was warm and friendly as always. Love it.

Very disappointed in the service. The man who appeared to be in charge was very unfriendly. We arrived an hour and a quarter before closing, but the whole time it felt like our business was not wanted. I asked for a bigger glass to fill up from water bowser but was refused because they had washed up, despite the fact they were serving hot drinks and I could use a small glass🤷🏼‍♀️ Very frustrating as cakes and coffees were really good, but I would not want to return because of the service.

Simply, not good enough. The gentleman serving seemed to get a buzz out of poor service. As he left people waiting outside in the rain, allowed no swaps on breakfasts, and no toilets. The large breakfast was bland, with not a touch of seasoning on any item! With such a good location, it's a shame the owners are simply price gouging rather than putting in half an effort. Would recommend the captains table instead, say aye-ay on entrance for a free coffee!

Went in just for two takeaway oat lattes. It was quite busy. Paid for them and was told to wait at the end of the counter, which we did. We waited for 25 minutes, the guy got our order wrong and didn’t write oat milk so the woman making the coffees used normal milk, so they had to remake them with oat milk, when the lady realised we were having oat , she said we’d have to pay an extra pound, even though they’d messed up the order and we’d been waiting nearly half hour , she was very rude, had an attitude told me it takes longer to be a barista! I’ve been in enough coffee shops, I know how long it takes to make a coffee! There was no apology for making us wait or for messing up my order, all she was bothered about was charging me another pound for the oat milk! She should have apologised for getting it wrong and not charged me the extra and taking so long! I certainly wouldn’t rush back. Her customer service skills were non existent, very unprofessional.

Disappointing service today, didn’t appreciate being told to wait for a table outside in the pouring rain with two young children. Food looks nice but customer service is key!

Undoubtedly a good place but inflexible and expensive. Don’t arrive early in the rain as you won’t be allowed to wait inside. Not customer friendly

We had lunch for the last three days of our holiday at Beachcomber Cafe, great location as we where able to leave our stuff on the beach and walk on up. Quick, clean and extremely friendly service. Our 2 1/2 year old George has allergies to which they were very accommodating. Thank you!

Really lovely restaurant café right on the edge of Woolacombe beach. Nicely decorated and a nice relaxed vibe. Visited for breakfast on Monday, the 14th of August. Quite busy so had to wait for a table. Approached the lady who was clearing and had a conversation about sitting at the table for four, a table for two. We were only a two. We were told we wouldn’t be able to sit at the table for two as there was only one chair. When I offered to take a chair from the table of four, I was told to just sit at the table for four, so I did, and as I went to sit down the lady took the chair from behind me as another couple of walked in, and she was moving it to the original table for two. I’m not a sensitive person, but I thought her communication style was very abrupt to the point of being quite rude. In fact, I raised an eyebrow at my friend and so did the people on the table sat next to us. We sat down, and we were brought over a menu to share. We quickly decided that we were going to have breakfast, but we had to work out that you had to go and order and pay at the desk because there was no instructions and the lady clearing the tables had actually gone on to be quite rude to the next lot of customers that came in shouting across the room had they ordered . Me and my friend were quite chilled out so we just laughed and thought well she’s having a bad day or like us, she’s in the middle of menopause and is quite irritated by everyone. That’s walked through the door. Went to the desk and the lady that served us was lovely . We ordered two breakfasts and two hot drinks which came to a total of £22. Pretty reasonable we thought. I don’t eat baked beans, so I asked if I could swap them for mushrooms but this is not possible as we were told that this is too complicated for the staff to deal with so I paid £1.20 extra for a portion of mushrooms and did not have the baked beans. The breakfast comes with toast, but unfortunately the toast is covered in spread. I don’t eat margarine and I think pretty much it was margarine as the toast was soggy by the time it arrived. I didn’t eat it. I told the waitress who told me that they don’t use butter? The drinks came out about 15 minutes after we ordered which was okay because we were looking out of the window at the beach is beautiful, but there was no finesse with the service. The drinks for just put down and the staff member just walked away away. The breakfast arrived and we were not offered any sauce or anything else. There was no salt and pepper on the table, so we just got up and went and got it from the side where it was easily accessible. At no point, where we asked if our food was okay and I had to have a conversation with the waitress about the toast, but I was not offered any substitute or additional toast with no spread on it. The entire time we were sat having our breakfast which was absolutely delicious well cooked and plentiful for the cost of £7.50 per person. We observed the waitress basically being frustrated in irritated with everybody that came through the door. I would definitely recommend the beachcomber café for breakfast and probably for other food as I cannot fault the food and the delicious coffee. I don’t think you should have a put spread on peoples toast so that could be improved upon and I also think that you should offer swaps. Most people that cook in a kitchen (and I have done it ) can manage to take some beans off and add some mushrooms. It seems a bit of a poor service to not take into consideration. Peoples taste when you offer a massive amount of gluten-free and vegan and vegetarian options. I’m allergic to emulsifiers in margarine and I wasn’t even given the opportunity to say I don’t want it. Definitely wouldn’t let my review put you off going here, but I have to say that the waitress needs to find a different type of work as I don’t think she’s suited to front facing customer service. Either that, or she was having a really shocking day. The cast is made us laugh

Went in here as we were getting soaked out in the rain. Thankfully there was a table for us and the staff didnt make a fuss with how much sand we were dragging in as we were absolutely caked in it. Ordered a cream tea and I love the scone. Its not crumbly like most and it actually holds when you spread the clotted cream and jam on. They're so generous with the cream and jam that I just asked for another scone. My kids loved it as well. We ordered hot chocolates and the kids were over the moon. Second visit was for an afternoon snack. The vegan ganache dessert was surprisingly good. Hats off to the baker. I had another order of cream tea because...the scone! Tasted the same. Will be going again on our last day. The staff were all friendly and welcoming during both visits. Thank goodness it rained that morning, otherwise we wouldn't have gone at all.

We just had a lovely impromptu dinner at Hele Bay pub. We've been here a few times over the last ten years or so that we've been to Hele and have sadly found the pub lacking, BUT this time it was really great! Really splendidly cooked food with great attention to detail. We had 4 lighter bite meals between the two of us which were all lovely but the standout by some distance was the Messy Fries 🍟. Just really great, good value pub food with a very welcoming landlord and lady. Smashing beer too! 🍺 We'll be back next year! 🙂

Stumbled across the cafe when we arrived in Ilfracombe and needed coffee. Quaint and characterful and clearly has it's regular customers. Coffee was good and hot but the homemade Eccles cake was amazing! The other treats looked good too. Coming across The Naked Cake cafe was the best thing about Ilfracombe which was otherwise, tatty and very down at heel.
