As a regular to Calke Abbey/Ticknall over many years it' a shame that our family experienced such unhelpful service.Having waited outside due to the understandable 'one in one out service', the lady who 'served my son & I was so abrupt. Whilst we were about to order and waiting for the rest of our family to arrive, we enquired as to where the nearest facilities were. "There's s a pandemic you know" was her response. Needless to say, as she continued to inform us that there was nothing else local either (which we knew wasn't true as the cafe at Calke Abbey was open with two lots of facilities), we didn't decide to wait to order our food and drink. A loss for custom for them and an unnecessarily rude and curt service which has been reported on here last Summer too.

About 2 this afternoon we walked into this lovely little shop/cafe in ticknall and never have we been more surprised! The lovely man who owns the place was more than happy to help, made us a great cuppa tea and the cakes which he makes himself were truly very delicious! THIS IS A MUST DO ON A TRIP TO CALKE! Its less than a 3 minute walk from the estate entrance and they not only do very very reasonably priced food, but also sell local produce! Truly very impressed by the service we got today and wish the business all the beat through these difficult times!

I’ve driven past this little place on a few occasions the last couple of weeks but today made a purposeful journey to Ticknall to visit. It was well worth the drive!Parking is easy - on the street right outside and the welcome from both the lady at the counter and the chef was very welcoming. The menu isn’t too big or complicated, but it’s good honest food at a very reasonable price. I had a delicious toasted sandwich at half the price other cafes might charge and my young daughter a simple ham sandwich made so much more tasty because of the thick, fresh bread and quality fillings. The coffee was very good and we couldn’t resist taking some cakes home.We felt extremely safe with the sensible precautions being taken and really enjoyed our seat in the window and browse around the shop. We will definitely be making a trip back!

Rude and dismissive. Entered the shop and politely approached a staff member working at the counter. I explained that I wanted to buy something but I was "desperate to use the toilet." The reply was curt, dismissive and had an air of "hard luck."She explained that during the pandemic the facilities were shut. I asked if there were any other facilities or pubs nearby. The answer was "no."This turned out to be totally incorrect. Whilst I fully understand businesses having to comply with government recommendations; I have a strong suspicion that if I had been 50 years older and female; the response would have been entirely different. No empathy and seemed more concerned with paying lip service to scientifically flawed government guidelines than helping a person in need. Shameful.

My friend and i called in to Scoff and Shop this morning on the way to work and both had a bacon, mushroom and tomato cob each. It was superb, soft white bread, filled literally with bacon, mushroooms and just the right amount of tomato too. It was freshly made and piping hot; we asked for the bacon to be very well done, and it was really crispy, so good in fact we ate it standing outside! Lovely little shop and lovely gentleman who served us. Thank you Sir!

Lunch time. Having driven past, staving, my husband shouted stop there's a cafe that will do. Walked back to find what is far more than a little cafe. We both were amazed at the excellent quality and choice of food on offer, we tucked into 2 very good hot lunches just the ticket on a cold day. Friendly customers and staff, interesting little bits and pieces on sale. If your passing, Don't! Pop in, I'm sure you'll enjoy it like we did.

The best breakfast for miles! I've had several full English there now and it is always perfect with the rare treat of fried bread and the best black pudding I have ever tasted. My wife and other friends have gone for less robust options with the same happy results. The service and ambience is just right for this gem set in a beautiful village with more walking and cycling routes you could wish for. Its also on the edge of Calke Abbey and Ticknall's amazing lime kilns. We must give Sunday lunch a try as chef Colin has quite a reputation from other ventures in the area.

This is my local café and village shop so I attend fairly often.Recently had Sunday lunch there, food was piping hot with nice fresh vegetables and generous portion of beef, gravy and Yorkshire pudding.Great value for money as you can take your own alcohol should you wish to. Cakes and puddings are lovely, as are the coffee and hot chocolate to drink. Very bright interior and friendly staff, excellent venue to be on my doorstep.

Just the place to call in with friends for a social coffee during the morning.Very impressed with this clean and bright interior. Ordering at the counter very business like, beverages arriving quickly too. Hot chocolate caught the attention of a couple in our group of five, it was fully recommended, so that's my drink next time we call. Great to find a large circular table for five, always helps conversation flow well. One lovely surprise and coincidence for me was to have a Denby Gypsy cup and saucer, (1977 vintage).Arriving at around 10.30 on a November Wednesday morning, it was fairly quiet but did become bjsy by 11 am. Open each day, the cafe does provide light snacks. Really pleased to be revisiting with new business in place here, we're looking forward to an opportunity to call again. Perfect for those walking or cycling nearby.

This little cafe and shop is well worth a visit. The staff are friendly, food quite nice and it is a pleasant atmosphere. The Sunday lunch is nice, unfortunately I was very disappointed that the beef seemed presliced thin meat (not home coked and off the joint). The veggies were really nice and varied, so it was a bit of a shame. The mash was amazing, very different. I hope the beef improves as the waiter said it was home cooked. The rest of my experience was really nice. Had the meat been 'off the joint' in nice thick slices I would definitely score 5 stars. Nice cakes and a pleasant little shop. I have tried the home made pie previously, was very nice...

Thirteen months ago Scoff n Shop was born .. transforming over the months from basic café to something unique in the area .. you are always assured of a warm welcome and a good choice of snacks, breakfasts and Lunches, recently Sunday Lunches and now Afternoon Tea .. indeed the only thing missing is a meal in the evening ..but that is not what Scoff n Shop is all about, and other venues are available nearby if that is your requirement.

Came in to have tea and something to nibble on while my family goes off to sight see. I was happy to see that they had waffles on the menu. When I saw them they brought back childhood memories of making waffles like these in the toaster. The bacon was a great addition to them. The sweet and salty always a winner. They had a few different types of herbal teas. They also had some cakes, and muffins. The shop was somewhat busy when I arrived around 10. The staff is very friendly and they bring your food to your table. You pay the bill at the counter at the end of your visit.

The staff are wonderfully friendly and go to a lot of trouble to make sure you have an enjoyable experience. Great window seat to read the morning papers, lovely breakfasts, delicious cakes, superb!!!!
