As always great fresh food to purchase, cobs,porkpies and cakes all very good ,we were however disappointed with our hot sausage sandwich which we ate in their premises, in our opinion tasted as though it was made with a lot of cereal in it.

The answer is NO. I bought a cheese roll to "eat in" I asked if they had pickle ...no. ...but there was brown sauce on the server side of the counter. Could , I have some brown sauce.. ...No It is the management policy to not allow the server or the customer to add sauce or anything else to the sandwich lest the customer is allergic to it. The sauce is not on the ingredients list, so cannot be added. You could add it to a sausage sandwich! Really?... Oh yes

Popped in for tea/coffee and food. My goodness what a fantastic place this is. I chose the turkey, cranberry and stuffing barm and hubby had the pork and crackling, they were delicious. The service was excellent, so friendly, and the atmosphere was great. Will definitely recommend and will be back when next in the area. Well done.

Friendly, helpful and polite service. Lovely warm turkey and pork rolls, cheese and onion rolls and the fresh cake selection was excellent . Good selection of teas and coffee and pretty window to sit in. Will definitely visit again when next in the village.

Nice enough bakery on the whole but I will not use this company since Megan Metcalfe was sacked after 40 years of service for assistance to elderly customers during the pandemic. I have voted with my feet.

Very nice food but the member of staff that served me did not smile and looked as if she didn't want to be there. She was quite rude . Not best service

Very rude and disrespectful service. Upon requesting allergy information about whether certain pastries had dairy in them we were met with sarcasm and attitude by the young lady at the counter. If you are vegan or have any allergy I would certainly recommend you to NOT go there. I will never be attempting to buy food from there ever again and I will not be giving my money to rude people like that. She gives a bad impression of the business.

Delicious both sweet and savoury - best mini Quiche Lorraine and Egg custard tart I have ever tasted. Super friendly staff. Looking forward to visiting next June.

The pork pies were the best Melton Mowbray eat your hat. Wanted to go back and buy the remaining stock but missed closing. Yummy

Jumbo sausage and bacon cob with a latte £5. Well worth it. Cob was really nice. Next time I'm on the area I'm going back for another one, yum yum. Staff were really friendly too. Seating inside. Lots of yummy cakes/cream cakes

Was served by a lovely lady named Olena who was very patient with me as I was part of a group of cyclists that kept changing their orders. A cracking sausage and stuffing cob with a coffee for £4.50.

Great location. Nice food. Tasty warm sausage roll, nice quiche lorraine and a fantastic caramel doughnut. Eating them by the Melbourne lake in the sun added to the experience. Good friendly service. Not related but nice to see Melbourne paying its respects with poppy displays for Remembrance Day.

Always a good experience when shopping at Birds, and Melbourne is a cut above the rest. There is a nice space for you to enjoy a coffee with your cake with seating for about 12 people across 6 tables, with one in the window where you can watch the World go by (I believe that may be a 4 seater table). The usual selection of hot & cold drinks are available. I had 4 'Macmillan Cupcakes', which were £4.40? They were presented in the 'trademark' box to help ensure they reached their destination intact ..it's a pity they don't come with a padlock ☹...

Friendly staff and a tasty cup of coffee in Melbourne today. Very reasonable price. Sat in a window seat and enjoyed the sunshine through the large windows. Lovely smell of cooking wafting through the shop and I enjoyed the bustle of the lunchtime customers.

Bought a cheese and onion roll, a cheese and onion pasty and a pork pie. All were extremely tasty and looking forward to getting them again. The only complaint was customers waiting to be served not wearing face masks despite notice on door saying they must be worn. Worried about covid now.

Take away curry on December 27. This was very disappointing as a previous meal eaten here had been very good. Very oily, poor quality dishes with careless vegetable preparation .The exception was one curry Was this a problem with staffing after the Xmas break I wonder? We are now reluctant to use this take away service again.

Unfortunately the staff is not very nice, the food is okay but the place is not very welcoming

We didn't stop for a drink but as we were self catering nearby we stocked up on , sausage rolls, pastries, croissants etc to last for a few days, very tasty malt loaf! Helpful service and reasonable prices.

Can't go wrong with Birds, a gem in the crown of Derbyshire. The Christmas Eve Birds queue is the stuff of local legend.

Birds only sell high quality, fresh and tasty food. Highly reccommend to anyone who wants a snack, cream cake or just a coffee.

......... Bakery has introduced an “operating manual” for making sandwiches. You are now TOLD what you can have, not ask for what you want. And I quote (this from their head office when queried): “As we do not currently have a specification for a ham and tomato sandwich” the staff were correct to inform you that they couldn’t offer this. Seriously I am not making this up. One customer was informed that they could only have what they wanted IF THEY ADDED THE INGREDIENT THEY DID NOT LIKE as dictated by the manual. The saying containing the words lunatics and asylum springs readily to mind.

Birds is one of Derby’s better delicatessen, you can’t beat having a Birds Cream Cake, the cobs are made on site and the salad is fresh and crunchy

I've visited this place a few times but it definitely gets better and better. If you want to pop in for a sausage cob and hot drink to start your day or a sandwich to recharge for the afternoon I would definitely recommend here. Good prices ,good food and friendly helpful staff.

Went in the other morning with a very stroppy toddler, but thanks to the manager, Adrian I think? And his very infectious laugh, my daughter was giggling by the time we were making our way out. Excellent service and will definitely stop by again.

Rather pricey.. Dont rely on the times they give for hot food being ready as you may waste 3 trips back to the shop for a hot cob and never actually get one.

This British derby based confectionery shop is amazing both products and service with good manners and added smiles credit to the directors.

When in Melbourne i cannot resist popping in here - not sure why but this Birds shop has the best staff in this bakery chain i have had the pleausre to be served by - a brilliant example to the rest of the shops

Birds bakery has got an enviable reputation in the Derby area and has a slogan ”we never sell a stale cake”. The baked products are exceptionally high quality and I've never had a product that is just ”ok”. The favourite items with many people are the caramel doughnut or the outstanding pork pie. There has been a Birds shop in Melbourne for many years but recently they relocated to give a bigger store and considerably larger storage facilities at the rear of the premises. The larger store has also allowed a small number of tables and chairs to be installed giving customers the opportunity to relax and enjoy a coffee with a cake. The front of the store has been completed very tastefully fitting in with the local surrounding. If you're in Melbourne sample some of the products and your taste buds will thank you for evermore.

This bakery shop is one of a big chain in the Derbyshire area. They are renowned for their top quality products. From different breads to a good choice of mouth watering cakes. They also sell cooked meats and sausages, along with really good pork pies and sausages. Birds shops are really well worth a visit and I am sure you will not be disappointed with your purchases.

The elephants foot, cream slice and pork pies are excellent.Now operating from their new shop just across the road from the old shop.

Only a stones throw (across the road) from their old shop but the new lighter brighter more spacious facilities with tables and chairs to sit in and eat snacks and freshly prepared drinks is a great improvement. Service is always cheerful and efficient and the breads meats pastries etc. are top quality. This shop is a credit and an asset to Melbourne.

having moved just across the road from their older premises the new Birds bakery with tablets and chairs to sit and eat and drink indoors is excellent and an improvement over their smaller previous premises.

Lovely new Birds Bakery, airey and well laid out with plenty of seating, you cannot go wrong buying cakes, bread, pies etc from here and staff are very friendly.

Visited the new birds location. Fantastic service and great variety of food. Really like the added seating. Just what the town needs.

Up to Birds usual great standard with a delicious range of filled rolls, sandwiches, sausage rolls, mini quiches etc as well as all the favourite cakes, sliced cold meats and pork pies. Not forgetting the hot sausage apple sauce & stuffing cobs, or bacon rolls !The Melbourne Birds also has 4 small tables with 10 or so seats if you want to eat in. Lovely coffee and hot chocolate average £2 each.
