We went to the January pop-up after having it recommended by a number of friends. It's a 3 course meal with a vegetarian and vegan option for each course that you choose in advance. We are neither vegetarian or vegan, but loved the idea of a pop-up and found the food to be generous, excellent and fantastic value for money. You can bring your own alcohol which is even better for us so we get to drink a bottle of wine we like rather than the over priced nonsense most restaurants serve. You may have to share a table, but we had some lovely chats with very nice people. We will be back!

My second visit to Satsuma was as delightful as the first. The food is excellent and if you are vegan it's so nice to know that you can eat everything without having to ask what's in it. You don't have to be vegan to enjoy this food , not everyone that goes is vegan or even vegetarian. It is a very sociable evening, you sit with and meet lovely people and you can take whatever you want with you to drink. An extremely enjoyable experience . Thank you.

We had a 3 course meal with every single part of it being delicious, each course was creative and perfectly cooked. Great to get some decent vegan choices, the atmosphere was great, only a few people there which made it really friendly. It was also really good value. Thankyou so much. I hope to return soon.

Excellent food, sociable atmosphere, charming hosts and all at a very fair price. I'd recommend Satsuma to anyone, whether or not they eat meat. It would be a great way for visitors from abroad to experience great British hospitality.

Went here last night all food served was absolutely delicious. Haven't eaten tofu before and absolutely loved it, the Cornish pasty was amazing and the banofee pie (minus the bananas....my wierd request) was sublime. If you want to eat somewhere away from mainstream, mass produced meals and see how tasty vegan food is.. you must eat here....

This pop up restaurant was fun. The room was nicely done out and you soon forgot you were in somebody's house. The menu was pleasant, homely and simple. Enjoyed the food but some of the portions were on the small side - for example we could have done with more bread with the starters and more vegetables with the main. The hostesses were friendly and well organised and we would visit again.

SUPERB. Ok - it is a very short sentence but it does sum up the experience. If you are a veggie this place is a must. If I was to change any one thing it would be to reduce the service from 3 to 2.5 hours, although even the non-hurried service was a welcome change from normal restaurants. Will definitely consider another visit.,

When we first realised it was basically in someone's house we were a bit unsure of what to expect... what we got was excellent food, great atmosphere & lovely people! Clare & Co pull out all the stops to ensure their guests feel right at home, but also make it feel like a real restaurant experience, The food was tasty, well prepared & professionally presented. you soon forgot you were sitting in a stranger's house! I highly recommend this place & will definitely be booking again soon! If you want to book, be quick! They only do two nights a month & the tables fill extremely quickly! Well worth a visit!

I booked an evening at Satsuma as a valentines gift for my husband. We had read lots of good reviews & wanted to give the experience a try. It was really exciting receiving our menu options the week before - followed by the address of Satsumas secret location! We arrived at 6.30pm & the bistro was already busy & buzzing! We share a table with two other lovely couples - all of us new to the Satsuma experience - and we really enjoyed their company. The vegetarian/vegan food was absolutely fantastic! Portions were really generous & beautifully presented. Thank you once again to Cath & Clare, & our waiter Mark for such an enjoyable evening! We will be back!

We decided to try the Satsuma pop up restaurant during a friends weekend in Chester. It had been recommended plus the reviews looked pretty good too. It was a different experience and we really enjoyed. The food was lovely, the hosts very welcoming & all in all a great experience all round. If you are in chester when they are open I would definitely recommend!

I was treated to a surprise meal here with two of my daughters and what a wonderful night was had by all!The place was relaxing yet buzzing ( yes it's possible!) and you easily forget that it's actually in someone's home. The decor and subtle lighting, even the playlist was to perfection! The wonderful aromas from the kitchen were spot on as the starters, meals and dessert were simply amazing. I've not had such an incredible vegan and gluten free meal out since the closure of Bej. And the two lovely Satsuma girls were so instantly likeable yet professional and ran the whole night superbly! When the coffees had been served (with a little Malibu sweet!), they came out and socialised with everyone too.An absolute wonderful meal and night out...thank you! X

Satsuma is really something special and a one of a kind dining experience. I had a friend recommend it and have been each month since I heard about it... I think I'm addicted!I booked through the facebook link and was then told of the secret location in the heart of Chester. The hosts are lovely and welcoming, the atmosphere's warm and friendly and the food is tailored to suit any dietary requirements and tastes AMAZING! Don't be put off if you're not vegetarian/vegan as each time I've been there's always been meat eaters there and all say that they don't feel like they're missing anything. It feels like going to a relaxed dinner party where you meet lovely people. I went there with one friend and left with several! Can't recommend it highly enough! Fab! x

I found out about Satsuma through friends on Facebook and wow what a great night. The first time I went I was sat on a table with two other 'singles' and one couple, very informal and such good fun. My next two visits have been with a friend who is vegetarian, note for the record I am not, I just like good fresh food. The food is amazing, three courses of fresh, homemade, handmade, excellent food! I have been surprised each visit by the imaginative menu ideas, using great fresh ingredients. I have food allergies and these were catered for, so I could tuck in and not worry. Would I go back? in a heartbeat! Remember to book as spaces go quickly.

I went to this new pop up bistro as a couple, but it is a communal dining experience so we were on a table of 4 other people. (I understand that there are some tables for 2 or 4 if you don't fancy the communal experience) In a nutshell, it was one of the best nights I've had in ages! Really great food in wonderful surroundings. The service was prompt and professional, It was lovely and refreshing to be in a vegetarian/vegan restaurant where I could eat everything!! I also loved that we were sat with other people who we had a great laugh with :-) Chester has needed this for a long time. I Will definitely be telling friends about Satsuma and will be going back myself very soon! Thanks guys!!

5 stars is not enough! This was truly excellent, and more. We went to Shrub on a recommendation while we were on a 1 night leisure visit to Chester and we couldn’t fault our experience here if we tried. We’re not vegan at all but very open minded and just love to try great food. The food here is all vegan but completely unpretentious and with no meat substitutes which we’ve found tend to be the norm at vegan outlets. Its just great food with lots of flavour and creativity and no need at all to advertise itself as vegan because when food is this good there’s no need for it to be pigeon-holed. Service was also excellent, and the atmosphere and environment was relaxed and welcoming. Our waitress was knowledgeable with great suggestions on the menu. She was also friendly and chatty without being invasive over-bearing. We focussed on small plates and our favourite was definitely the artichoke wings which had a lovely texture and loads of flavour but we also especially loved the Teriyaki Tofu. There very lottle on the menu with any meat descriptors (e.g. celeriac ‘steak’ - just to keep meat eaters happy!… not necessary!!), it just says what it is without any fuss. Can’t wait to come back, and really hope we find somewhere else with this approach… it’s definitely the way forward!

We had a meal for six people on a very busy Saturday evening. The food and service were very good. We thought the dishes could have been brought out a little more slowly as there was no room on the table and consequently we felt a little rushed. Overall however we all enjoyed the meal and thought it good value for money with a wide and varied menu, good service and atmosphere.
