My family and I visited, we have varied tastes, but all found excellent food to eat and stalls that were interesting, the people there were fun too I highly recommend the cheese toastie from a stall that had the word cheese in the name iirc? It was excellent The thing that really impressed me was the bathrooms, a lot of my friends are non gender conforming, and have told me about the struggles of figuring out which bathroom to go to, and this place has a gender neutral bathroom in addition to the mens and women's ones!

I remember the old market that was on the other side of the road, and this place is a world apart from the old one. It's a brand new purpose built structure. It has individual fast food stalls built around 3 main seating areas. There's a huge choice of foods including English,Thai, Italian and Asian and a main bar at the rear of the hall. Each time I've been it's always been busy, even midweek. The thing I really like about it is that it's very simple to order. You can just go up to a stall and pay cash and get your little buzzer which goes off when your meal is ready to pick up.

Great selection of places it would be five stars but they need some security as some people were hanging around waiting for us to finish eating or leave some food so they could eat the scraps, they did have staff coming around and taking people's plates but it feels like putting a Band-Aid on it rather than sorting it out completely, it made me feel uncomfortable and didn’t feel very safe

Lovely place to come and have a pint. The food court has a great atmosphere, and there are plenty of different foods on offer. The bar does a good selection of drinks and Guinness was good and not badly priced considering the location. I came in here for the first time yesterday. What a great area, if you can't find something to eat in here you are possibly far too fussy! There's so many places to choose from with nearly every variety of food you can imagine. Plenty of seating areas and even a bar. There's a great vibe and the whole place was buzzing when we came here. I'll definitely be back. If you've never been here before come and give it a try.

Good choice of food, and reasonable prices for city centre - but not enough tables / seating. Cleaning staff do a good job, regularly collecting plates and wiping tables. However our table had a "slatted" top and between the slats was full of food / debris - these need replacing, or a glass / perspex top fitting.

Chester Market was fantastic apart from the Champagne and Wine bar. One member of staff was arrogant and rude despite me telling him I was next at the bar having already been overlooked once he served someone who literally had just walked up. Our first round of drinks were lovely but I walked away as they clearly pick and chose who to serve and this is NOT acceptable. Champagne and wine bar sort your staff out!!!

Nice enough but incredibly expensive! £13 for a cheeseburger and £4 extra for a scattering of frozen chips on the side! And the pizza place, £13 for a pizza which is OK but £2 for a tiny dip and £8.50 for dough balls!? All for a takeaway service where you have to fight to find a table and when you do, it's filthy. I have been before and enjoyed, but today just tipped the place over the edge for me into somewhere I no longer want to return to.

Food was decent. Good service from most the staff. One girl working there however had the nerve to steal a brand new vape off the table while I was standing a few meters away. Terrible behaviour I would say. She reckons if they're left unattended for more than 30 seconds they get 'scrapped'. I have reason to believe took it for her own use. Terrible excuse. She had a condensing attitude when I confronted her about it, as I was literally a matter of 10 steps away. Wouldn't want to eat anywhere with waitress like her. I was infuriated because I feel like I've just been robbed. Baffles me how it can not be put to one side or behind a bar but there you go. Thought Chester was better than this but apparently not.

A glorified food hall rather than a market with a few stalls that sells nothing really worth returning. Doesn't have the same charm as a the old market and certainly is not worth travelling for. If you want to go for a bite to eat then it's pretty good, but Chester is 90% restaurants so seems unnecessary to go that heavy on the food stalls. EDIT after response. I did mention Chester was 90% Restaurants not your market. Yet in your market it is more food stalls than market stalls. You can't deny that to look good on reviews. People know themselves anyway, I'm not the only review to mention it's a glorified food hall. It was worse when it opened and you acted a got a few more stalls in there. As mentioned in my original review though. Them stalls are not worth returning for. Maybe the butchers but you wouldn't travel for it as the rest of the market stalls are not worth the travel time. Of course millions of people will visit. Millions of people visit McDonalds. Its inevitable that you will have millions if people visit.

The market is not well designed, there’s far too many vendors and not enough seating. The ventilation in the market is sub par, it is hot and stuffy, the large south facing facade does not help this. The toilets are also poorly laid out. The food stalls are of good quality but overpriced and more priced towards restaurant standards than street food, I suspect to pay for the rent. There’s no table service either like other markets and there’s no app to order. Good idea, but poor execution

Went check it out to see if it is worth a visit by my Mum. No it was not. Walked straight out. Barren, ugly and with no soul!! Wooden blocks of frames stuck in a row, no imagination or flair, not even made to look attractive. Huge amount spent on it, leaves no impression on you. Far nicer environments to eat around Chester and surely there are enough eateries, do we really need any more!! No comfortable chairs, just benches!! What about the elderly are they supposed to sit on a bench all night. When I visited it was noisy. Cold and uninviting also expensive for what it is, ambience is important!! Hygiene seems to be a big factor too, from reviewers. One reviewer said they thought they were in an airport or train station, very spot on. Lost its sense of a proper market, if that's what it is supposed to be! I only went to the old market once, so I am not a die hard for that one. It just could have been so much nicer. 2023

Food was great, however the bar serving drinks is a huge rip off… paid £4 of a pint of ice instead of lemonade, when questioned I was told I did ask for ice and the bar tender smirked, obviously I wasn’t the only person to complain, I was then told this is how they serve there drinks and all the bars in Chester where the same…. No surprise then they all empty… there is no reason why they should think it’s ok to overfill glasses with ice, the lemonade is on a post-mix and would have cost a few pennies per glass… poor customer services and does the other hardworking stall holders no favours at all…..

We came here for dinner on our first night of a short stay in Chester. The stalls at the front were shut when we arrived so it looked very quiet from outside but as you walk towards the back, it was a great atmosphere. It’s a street food set up where you order at the stall & you’re given a beeper to collect your food when it’s ready. There’s a good selection of stalls and the service was quick. Great idea and very well done, fantastic traders and good, unfortunately the execution just isn’t as good as Newport market or goodsheads in Barry. Here, you have to wonder round and look at every menu to see what you want, then order and find a table and be given a disc which vibrates when your food is ready, which means if you’re on your own you’ll lose your table, or if you order then try to find a table to risk dropping your food, not finding anywhere (which is ok if you’ve got a pizza but not great with a curry) Other places work better, where you scan a QR code and then order online and the food is bought to your table by the staff of the market from each trader, this also allows you to order from more than 1 trader at a time. Also, it was very busy today but the toilets were filthy. Not acceptable

Nice indoor market BUT overrun with dogs. This is a busy market with an open food hall and lots of stalls preparing food. Dogs do NOT belong here - you're effectively letting dogs wander around in a kitchen. I went on a Saturday so it was busy, and many dogs on long leashes were being allowed to wander around, getting in people's way. Occasional snarling between dogs as well. Dog owners have an entire town centre in which to walk their dogs - they don't need to be in the indoor market as well. Enough of this "dog friendly" nonsense.

5 stars is not enough! This was truly excellent, and more. We went to Shrub on a recommendation while we were on a 1 night leisure visit to Chester and we couldn’t fault our experience here if we tried. We’re not vegan at all but very open minded and just love to try great food. The food here is all vegan but completely unpretentious and with no meat substitutes which we’ve found tend to be the norm at vegan outlets. Its just great food with lots of flavour and creativity and no need at all to advertise itself as vegan because when food is this good there’s no need for it to be pigeon-holed. Service was also excellent, and the atmosphere and environment was relaxed and welcoming. Our waitress was knowledgeable with great suggestions on the menu. She was also friendly and chatty without being invasive over-bearing. We focussed on small plates and our favourite was definitely the artichoke wings which had a lovely texture and loads of flavour but we also especially loved the Teriyaki Tofu. There very lottle on the menu with any meat descriptors (e.g. celeriac ‘steak’ - just to keep meat eaters happy!… not necessary!!), it just says what it is without any fuss. Can’t wait to come back, and really hope we find somewhere else with this approach… it’s definitely the way forward!

We had a meal for six people on a very busy Saturday evening. The food and service were very good. We thought the dishes could have been brought out a little more slowly as there was no room on the table and consequently we felt a little rushed. Overall however we all enjoyed the meal and thought it good value for money with a wide and varied menu, good service and atmosphere.
