I stayed there 23rd for wedding anniversary, well it’s living on the past , fine dinning restaurant , well that’s a joke they have no fine dining, It started with the room we walked in thought that’s nice 4 poster but there was cobwebs and dust on the bed , went to the bathroom there was cobwebs everywhere, there is no excuse for that , the teabags weren’t enough for 2 people , they hadn’t touched the room for I don’t know how long , There was a knock on the door had to order the meal I was very disappointed a choice of 4 meals , if we hadn’t booked there was nowhere to go without driving , Saturday they were closed for food

Terrible and expensive, paid for bar and room and didn't even end up staying so cold and weird. Gone so far down hill and completely dead. Such a shame

Rubbish. The steak was cold and dried out, no sauce or gravy or an offer of some. The lamb shoulder was supposed to be with croquettes and root vegetables with a jus but ended up being a couple of boiled potatores and some frozen peas soaked in some form of tasteless gravy. We had to wait for 40 minutes for any food. Two teenagers in the party ended up eating two meals each. This place used to provide the best food in Suffolk. Now it is near the bottom. Never again.

Had a lovely relaxing stay in this beautiful hotel, the room was very clean and tastefully decorated without losing the character of the 18th century building. The staff were all very nice and caring without be intrusive, nothing was too much trouble, felt like a home from home. The food was top quality, from the full English breakfast to the 3 course evening meal. Would definitely stay here again!! 😍👍 Also had a huge bath!

We dined here for 2 nights and our meals were well prepared and presented. They had a specials board as well as the main menu. Menu suitable for both meat and Vegetarian diners. Good quality wine with our meals another plus. Restaurant setting very boutique with a lovely chandelier. Small bar just outside the dining room with a wide choice of spirits. Beers available are the bottle type, no draught beers.

I booked a table in the restaurant for my partners Birthday on a recommendation as I was hoping for something a little bit special. It is a beautiful venue which should lend itself to a lovely experience. I’ve now heard its changed management since then which makes sense as I couldn't believe anyone would have recommended this place to me.From start to finish it was like some horrible joke. The moment I walked in my heart sank at the atmosphere. There is too much to mention here as they don't give you enough characters so here's just some of it. The one young lad who doubled as bar tender and waiter was very nice and did his best but was totally under-qualified. We felt so sorry for him. The only bottled beer was Heineken and when we asked if there was anything else a man came in shorts a dirty tee shirt and crocks and rudely asked us what was wrong with Heineken? On what had been one of the hottest days of the year we were told we couldn’t sit in the garden as it was about to be mowed, or we could but not to be surprised if we got mowed. There was no wine list and only one house red and one house white available. When I asked for Prosecco he brought a single serve bottle from a mini bar with the plastic tops still on?! The food was quite nice but just pub grub.I concur with other folk’s messages describing similar experiences and if you read the replies to them I think you'll glean all you need to know about the people who run this establishment. I’m bracing myself.

Went for Champagne afternoon tea, which was a present for my husband and I. Briefly, we were ushered in to a side room (with a stuffed deer head on the floor), by a gentleman in T shirt and jogging bottoms. He came with tea, which was nice I thought, thinking he put us there until our table was ready. HOW WRONG WAS I. This is where he served our food, which was not up to much. It took me a few weeks to get through to book, when I finally did reach someone on the telephone, the woman was very abrupt, she asked for dietary info, when I said, I did not want egg sandwiches (I hate egg), she proceeded to tell me that there was egg in cakes. I do not think they are doing afternoon tea now, but if you still have a voucher for here, change it. We left a £3.50 tip, hopefully, this would of been put towards a shirt. It is a shame, that someone has gone to the trouble of treating you to something they thought would be nice, to being treated like an inconvenience. These owners do not have a clue!!!

The room was dusty. The hotel was shabby and tired. Not boutique at all! Room was adequate. Vans and staff arrived before 7 on the gravel drive waking us. Shouting into mobile phones. Breakfast was over priced. Served by a lady in gym attire. We decided to cut our stay short and moved to a much nicer and more reasonable hotel which was spotless.

My mum and dad received a buy a gift voucher from their grandchildren for their 50th wedding anniversary for dinner, bed and breakfast. What a lovely gift, or so we thought. The first phone call to book they were told that the hotel was busy with weddings, this was understandable even though it was said in a very offish manner. The second phone call was to book for a weekday night and were told that the room was available until they mentioned the buy a gift voucher. They were then told that the hotel no longer honoured the vouchers with no explanation of why. My mum could hear the manager/owner laughing at her in the background. She was obviously very angry but no apology was given. She was just treated as a nobody by a very arrogant man. I wouldn't normally write a review of somewhere we have never been but I thought the hotels behaviour was disgraceful. The customer service from Buy a Gift was 10/10 perhaps Mr Arogant should take some lessons.

This lead me to check the reviews which as you can see are terrible so much so I've promptly gone online through buy a gift and easily changed our dining experience to a far better establishment, the owner should change her attitude and work on her customer service skills if she wants to start getting positive reviews. Such a shame as under the previous owners satis house was superb!

Having visited the local antiques centre, we stopped here for brunch. We were impressed with the house & grounds but the traffic noise from the A12 was terrible. Not a problem inside the house but any meals or drinks taken outside would be adversely affected by this I imagine. The welcome was friendly & the kitchen very accommodating in rustling me up a vegetarian brunch, as there wasn't really anything on their standard menu I could have. My husband chose kedgeree. We had a drink first in the intimate bar but caused a bit of a kerfuffle when we both asked for a sherry - some was found eventually! My vegetarian dish of mushroom crepes was fine & a generous portion but was a bit on the lukewarm side & could have been hotter & my husband was disappointed not to have any fish in his kedgeree. Surely, this always contains smoked haddock traditionally, which is what he was expecting. Some bread on the table wouldn't have gone amiss either. However, those minor gripes apart, we enjoyed our brunch experience & felt the pricing on this meal very good value & would definitely go back.

We had slight concerns about this place at the time of booking. The person who answered the phone was a little abrupt in her manner. No 'please or 'thank you' or 'we look forward to seeing you'. We had a discount voucher for this restaurant otherwise would consider it overpriced. On arrival we were quickly shown to our table. A bit disappointed to find that the menu amounted to no more than a sheet of A4. Even if the voucher restricted the choice available, it would have been good to see the full menu, perhaps annotated with those dishes covered by the voucher. We may have wanted to 'top-up' to a more expensive dish. The soup arrived and was good but it would have been better if the waitress had thought to provide soup spoons. As it was, we couldn't be bothered to call her back and just used our dessert spoons instead. The crab linguine was tasty enough but we thought it would have benefited from a little sauce and maybe a piece of crusty bread to accompany it.Dessert was home made cookies which were delicious and so fresh from the oven they were still slightly soft. Full marks for the salted caramel ice cream too.Overall we enjoyed our meal but felt that we wouldn't have been so happy if we had paid full price. We had read some reviews making an unfavourable comparison with Fawlty Towers and it certainly isn't that, but we were left with the nagging feeling that the overall experience could have been so much better with a little tweaking on the part of the management. We didn't see any of the staff smile once while we were there and any attempt to make conversation with the manageress/owner was met with a slightly defensive attitude, which is the feeling we had from her responses to previous reviews. We gather the premises has changed hands recently. Whilst wishing the new folks make a success of the venture, we think this is still a work in progress for the prices charged.

Three of us booked a table for 7:30pm on a Thursday, not knowing what to expect. Parking was easy, with a long impressive driveway leading to the parking area. Upon entering the reception area we were met by a gentleman (possibly the owner?) who was absolutely charming. He greeted us and took us to the restaurant. He pointed out that we had the whole restaurant to ourselves as they had had a cancellation. There were lit candles on the table and the atmosphere was very relaxed and pleasant. For my meal, I had Pate followed by Mushroom and Brie Risotto. Both these dishes were delicious, but, for me, the 'icing on the cake' was the freshly baked cookies and salted caramel ice-cream that I had for dessert. My gosh! They really were freshly baked. Straight out of the oven - lovely soft white chocolate cookies. I would go back just for these! Throughout the meal, the waitress was lovely and very attentive. Many comments on here have mentioned that the food is pricey - yes it is, but everything is fresh and an absolute delight to consume! You don't go to Satis House if you want a cheap burger and chips! It's more the type of place you go for a special meal - which was why we went there (30th bday)! I will be going back.

I had wanted to go to Satis House for sometime but when I suggested to two old friends that we should eat there I had not realised that it had changed owners. The evening got off to a poor start on the deep potholed drive grounding one of our cars and walking in the dark into a deep pothole and getting water in my shoe. Finding the entrance door was not obvious. There were no signs and inside no one to greet us or take our outside clothes. We found the unsigned restaurant. Other downstairs rooms had difficult to read signs on the doors.First the good points. In the small restaurant the tables were well spaced and you could not hear neighbouring conversations. At first the bar end music was loud and intrusive but was turned down.We were given only the wine menu to start with and asked to choose. We said it would be helpful to have the food choice first but those took some time to arrive. At that stage only 4 tables were occupied. The short menu looked interesting on paper. We had the 'while you are waiting' items and though the bone marrow was ok with little seasoning we never got the nuts. The crab dish was the better of all the dishes but like all the food we had lacked seasoning. We all had the cod, though the waiter said it was hake. The garnish of leaves and the food had fallen over on one plate and the dish was over powered by very generous capers. After 20 mins our pudding order was delivered to another table and though we ordered rhubarb crumble blackberry and black currant was delivered. Unlike every other restaurant bill I have had in the world the items to be paid for were not identified and though we had pointed out the failure to deliver nuts and the wrong order of pudding it was not clear whether these had been appropriately removed or charged correctly. The bill of £181 was at the London end of prices, the quality and reliability of the order was nowhere close and generally poor. Seasoning would have been appreciated. We felt sorry for the two waiters who were doing their best and we left a cash tip. We do not recommend Satis House restaurant and sadly agree with those other reviews that highlight the poor quality and value for money of the restaurant.

We had been walking on Dunwich Heath during the afternoon and had worked up a good appetite. We had booked an early table with friends and were greeted by very welcoming staff, who immediately showed us to the sitting room. once settled here the young lady gave us our welcome drink (Lunetta Prosecco) it was wonderful, probably the best prosecco we've ever tasted, followed by the menu for the evening. I chose the salmon starter, which I was surprised by it's presentation, a very small amount of salmon which was broken up into small bits, which was akin to pulled pork, but pulled salmon, hmmm. The main course was a delight, I might be an expert on 'Pork Belly', but this was well cooked, and a delight to eat as most of the fat had been slowly cooked out of it, My best was at the Mulbery Restaurant in Attleborough, Norfolk. The Hotel in general was very quaint with comfortable old fashioned furnishings and very pleasant staff, I would visit again, it was a little difficult to locate off the main road, on a bend, so be patient in finding it. Its worth the visit. B of N

This was our 4th or 5th visit to Satis House; we have loved it previously but sadly we will not be returning. We now understand that it is now under new management and standards have slipped significantly. Normally as you walk through the door you are greeted with a professional but friendly welcome at the front desk. Instead we found 3 staff members in the bar area with no welcome to speak of. We ordered drinks at the bar; the beer was half flat. The restaurant was uncomfortably hot and being busy, was so noisy we struggled to hear each other speak. We ordered some home made bread to nibble, which was delicious but £3.50.I ordered crispy lamb salad to start; the salad was a handful of rocket leaves, drizzled with a fairly tasteless gooseberry sauce and the lamb although crispy, was unseasoned. My wife ordered scallops, which were OK but presented quite basically compared to previous visits. For the main, my wife ordered cod which was on a vast bed quinoa, bacon and cabbage. It was bland, unseasoned and generally unpleasant so she left most of it. I had the duck and waffle which sounded great but the waffle was rubbery, thin and stodgy. Service was slow; one of the young waitresses kept getting tables mixed up and delivered our starters and water to the wrong table. We had to remind another waitress for cutlery and water. There was a 20-30minute delay between courses. We sent the waffle stack desert back as the waffles were again undercooked and rubbery, stodgy. Also it was advertised with chocolate sauce but came with strawberry. The cheese board was advertised with crispbread but came with a stack of basic crackers. The cheese itself was good.Even the loos had not been attended seemingly all day; 2 finished loo roll tubes and flannels left on the shelf. All in all it was not the same Satis House we had experienced previously - very average food, high prices, slow untrained service and generally very dissapointing.

House and location lovely. Had a Christmas gift voucher I pre booked giving the code when we arrived they said didn't need voucher as they had taken code on booking Afternoon tea was nice enough but they didn't include the prosecco [for which my friend had paid for]. Unfortunately I only have just realised we should of had bubbly included. Has rather put me off going again and why rating is only average

We stayed locally and had a deal on afternoon tea one day then a set dinner the following evening staff were lovely afternoon tea good and we're able to cater for my friend who was gluten free. Set dinner the following evening food was amazing esp the seafood chowder only criticism was it was more a stater size portion appreciate we had a deal but it felt very stingy ..... and I'm by no means a big eater (no bread with it even) such a shame as it was so good but overall nice place lovely decor

The staff were very pleasant but the food was very disappointing. I could not believe my husband's goat cheese starter - £9 for a few cheese crumbs sprinkled over rocket and a beetroot jus. A child could have prepared it in a few seconds. My starter sounded interesting - pulled pork doughnut - but was just a small doughnut with a few strands of pork inside which I could hardly taste. My main was crab linguine and I could taste salt crystals more than crab. Mains were about £19.50. My dessert was waffle stack with ice cream which was just that - four quarters of waffle with a tiny amount of syrup on the top one only and a scoop of ordinary ice cream. My husband had a small baklava with ice cream. £9 or £9.50 for such ordinary desserts is just not on. Because we are British and don't like to make a fuss we didn't say anything at the time, but we certainly thought it highly overpriced for such ordinary food.

A friend took me here for a meal, never been before but passed it loads of times on my way through. Not disappointed one bit, had a drink and nibbles at the bar before we went to eat and the lady serving was exceptionally nice and friendly chatting to us.The food was excellent, starters, main and pudding and I had a very memorable meal here and will definitely be back.

Having heard good things about Satis House under its previous management, I was eagerly anticipating an enjoyable evening of fine dining. In the fine dining column, we may definitely place a tick, but sadly no tick in the enjoyable evening column. The evening began with some mysterious confusion in which the receptionist seemed to think we were somebody else, which was a touch disconcerting, and for which no apology was forthcoming. However, to digress for a moment, the quality of the food and cooking is in no doubt: good ingredients, well-prepared and presented, in a well-appointed setting. We found we had been given a wonky table, which was inadequately remedied by the insertion of a wedge of paper under the offending table leg. This solution was at best temporary, and we were forced to attend to it ourselves. Service generally was perfunctory, and we were somewhat surprised that the waitress who had taken our order was unable to remember who was having what, there being just the two of us.A steak knife had to be requested, but things deteriorated as the evening went on. There was a gap of 20 minutes between our being given menus for dessert and an order being taken (which again we had to request), and when we wished to pay the bill, no staff were in evidence at all for some while, despite the room having latgely emptied. And just to add insult to injury, long after we had paid the bill and just as we were about to leave, we were asked how we would like to pay the bill. All in all, we formed the impression that the youthful staff would benefit from some training. Oh, and it's possibly over-priced: an 8oz fillet steak with trimmings is thirty quid - is that a little hefty for Suffolk? I leave the question hanging, but with the note that the dish is advertised for 26 on the Satis House website. It's a pity that the food is marred by the service as the building is noble and there's a lot to like inside as well. These problems can be rectified, and one hopes they will be.

We stayed for one night and had dinner and breakfast. This is a lovely, quirky place that was the inspiration for Charles Dickens when writing Great Expectations as he once stayed here. It made a change from impersonal corporate style hotels. The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. Very comfortable room. Food was very good and breakfast was great , lots of choice and good quality food, with table service . Would definitely stay again.

Have used Satis House many a time when Kevin and David were there but first visit since the new owners took over and definitely will be my last.Meal was a complete let down food was cold as plate had not been warmed prior to serving and the parsnips were burnt to a crisp.Service was slow especially as there was only one other table being used. But probably caused by the kitchen!

I have nothing but good things to say about my stay at Satis House. I have never been made to feel so welcome at a hotel before. Cara, the owner, takes the time to speak to every guest during their stay. She is very welcoming and accommodating. Her team clearly like working at the Hotel and are very well trained and friendly. A special mention to Harry who was front of house for my stay. Very friendly and polite! My room was very spacious and comfortable. The hotel has a lovely setting and is very quiet at night and I had one of the best night sleeps I have had for a while!I ate in the 2 rosette restaurant during my stay. Everything about the meal exceeded my expectations. Ben, the head chef, is extremely talented and takes the time to speak to all guests to introduce the dishes when they are served, He is an amazing chef and has a very warm personality. He is so passionate about his work and is a real assert to Satis House.I will definitely be returning!

I booked a Sunday stay one night for my boyfriend and myself as a birthday treat. Was disappointed on arrival we found public hair in the bath. Dust on the bedside lamp and a durex in a drawer where the iron and hanging clothes go. Evening meal was reasonably good. Breakfast was good apart from the fried bread which we left cauld break your teeth ad it was so hard. What I shame has we had stayed at satis hotel couple of times a few years ago and loved our stay. I'm afraid we won't be visiting again. What ashame.

Firstly we checked out the menu on their website before our visit only to find that the menu presented to us was different then the web site, when we mentioned it to the waitress she just said "l know." The wine menu was different to the web site and the font was so small you needed a magnifying glass to read it, when we asked why the writing was so small we were told it was so they could get it on one page.....The starters were enjoyable but expensive £9.50 for 2 small spring rolls and dip with shredded cucumber and £12 for 3 scallops, the mains were acceptable but again very over priced, the restaurant is very small and has a lot of tables and rather tired decor, The service was not very professional we would not return

We visited on Saturday to celebrate our daughters 21st birthday . Satis house is under new management so there may be changes afoot, however, for now it all seemed much the same ( no bad thing!) We had cocktails in the lounge where the waitress took our food order so we could sit and chat while we waited for our starters. Food...amazing! Between the six of us we had a range of starters and mains, all fantastic. We had brought our own birthday cake which staff were happy to bring out with candles lit and lights dimmed. A fabulous evening.

Lovely afternoon tea. Nice selection of sandwiches and cakes and scones. We sat outside and enjoyed the lovely weather and had unlimited refills on tea. Our waiter was lovely and happy, especially considering how a hot a day it was and that he seemed to be the only member of staff about. Beautiful place and lovely food. Lovely

Beautiful sweeping drive up to parking in front of the main house. Pleasant small bar. We were served most of the time by very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable waitress. Good selection of choices on the menu with the starter of the day as the stand out choice. Ours consisted of several nibbles including smoked salmon fish cake, prawn cocktail, sweet corn fritters, chilli jam, anchovies and falafel balls. Mains were well presented and my sea bass tasted really fresh and beautifully cooked. Would definitely recommend and will return but will be more forceful on getting a drinks refill.

A group of ten of us were here last Saturday for a special birthday lunch. From start to finish everything was fantastic. The building and grounds look great and we had our own room for the lunch. Both the food and service were excellent and the staff were very welcoming and professional. After our meal we'd planned to have drinks in the garden but due to the rain we had to stay inside. This change was handled with no fuss whatsoever and we were able to use another room/lounge and stay as long as we wanted. Would highly recommend Satis House as a place for a special occasion meal or celebration!

I had a very bad experience when trying to book Seckford Hall and, thankfully, decided to go to Satis House for my husband's 60th birthday celebration lunch. Emma-Louise was absolutely fantastic. She immediately understood that the lunch was very special and had to be kept secret and very professionally sat with me to discuss the menu etc. On the day, everything was just perfect. The food was superb and the service too. I couldn't recommend Satis House enough and would especially recommend anyone to deal with Emma-Louise who will ensure that everything is as it should be. We'll be back.

We had a lovely romantic meal at the weekend. Great welcome drink and maitre'd - very personable. Lovely atmosphere and great choice for dinner very well cooked - a bit of class in this area. They even hassled our cab for us when it was late at end of evening after a prolonged wait! Couple of small points: main came out v soon after main - felt a bit of pressure from the kitchen who seemed to be dictating pace of meal. Front of house were v good about putting breaks on for desert. Oh and owners left their napkin on candle so we had to lurch over and put it out!

My husband treated me to dinner on a Wednesday night. The service was friendly and welcoming. Bread and olives as we waited. Beef satay for himself, crab cakes and calamari starter for myself. This was followed by a pork belly steak and mushroom wellington. Both cooked to perfection. I opted for a pudding plate of three desserts, which complimented each other; rhubarb crumble, ginger pudding to die for and lemon posset , an absolutely delicious combination. He opted for chocolate brownie equally delightful. Nothing was left. We will definitely be coming back to try the afternoon tea , especially if it has an Alice in Wonderland theme as advertised.

This is a great special occasion restaurant. Everything is managed with just the right blend of relaxed helpfulness and good service. Nobody hovers obsequiously over you enquiring if Madam's food is alright - but you can be certain they'd notice if anything did go awry.Lovely food, all well thought out, not over-fussy, flavours well balanced. The scallops came in a subtle, intriguing sauce, with a mildly piquant chilli jam. Chunks of fresh cod well set off by chorizo and lentils. The orange sorbet that came with the Cosmopolitan jelly was intense and light.A great evening. Booking ahead strongly recommended - on a Monday night, we could only get a reservation at 6.30 pm, no later.

We spent two amazing nights here after our wedding in August and we're very well looked after by all of the staff. The room was beautiful, clean and had a balcony to sit out and enjoy the gorgeous weather we were blessed with. We had breakfast both mornings, American style pancakes for me and full English for him, both were delicious and filling. Had a beautiful afternoon out in the enclosed garden with the most amazing afternoon cream tea! A wonderful choice on the dinner menu as well as various cocktails and alcoholic beverages available from the bar. It was a very enjoyable way to begin our married life and would definitely return again. Maybe for our 1st anniversary!

Myself and my partner went to Satis Houseafter purchasing a very reasonable Groupon. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed every second of it. We had dinner, cocktails, breakfast in bed and attended the breakfast buffet. All of which was excellent! We stayed in a 'superior room' which included ensuite and a TV and DVD player. A wonderful, relaxing getaway in Suffolk.

We took advantage of a groupon champagne /steak dinner. As it was our wedding anniversary we decided to have the full works, starters, desert, wine and coffee. So glad we did as it was fantastic. Every mouthful was an absolute delight. Clean plates all round. All complemented with a beautiful recommended bottle of wine. Brilliant informative and attentive staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening. I cannot recommend it highly enough. We have both eaten and stayed there on numerous occasions . Every one we were made to feel special. This time it was one of the best meals that we have had in a very long long time. Beyond excellent ( as another reviewer stated) .

I've had several evening meals here, so thought I would go back for afternoon tea with my parents. Have to say I was a bit disappointed? Tea and coffee were great, sandwiches with the crust cut off were really nice but there weren't enough - only 16 small fingers between 6 adults. Scones with jam and cream very good but the "other" sweets were not nice at all. Dry chocolate cake, a huge slice of cheesecake (bigger than a sandwich) and a lemon posset which I thought was an odd choice. I would have preferred just a slice of cake.....

We had a family meal. Service friendly although a bit rushed at the beginning - not necessarily a bad thing if it's because they need to plan kitchen. Location is good and been here a number of times under the Malaysian owner and the current. Food was good but I can't give it 5 out of 5 as for suffolk the menu is at the expensive end and can't describe it as exceptional to give top marks. I'm probably adversely influenced in my view by £28 for steak.

Had a very pleasant evening with friends, food was good as was wine everyone was pleased with their choice of dishes, they were well cooked and presented so no complained there. However, £12 for scallops as a starter when you actually get three is rather over the top, they were good but at that price do not represent good value I would expect four as a minimum. Staff were all very friendly and welcoming and we would certainly visit again.

Authentic Pie, Mash n' liquor in Felixstowe - I popped in here after a couple of beers on the front - lovely pies, good old mash and proper liquor - knife, fork and spoon for the liquor, with vinegar, just like in London SE1 - interesting photos of England football stars and a bit of banter with the owner. All in all a great lunch and long may they thrive in Felixstowe.
