Nice Malaysian food spot, perfect for dinner

The food was outstanding. Their chicken wings are amazing. The rendang is nice and spicy. Loved it.

Impressed with their food quality and taste. If you want Malaysian cuisine to its best, I believe this is the place to go. My fav started was Satay, the sauce and grilled chicken combo go very nicely together.

By far the best cuisine I have ever had! Satay House has set the new standard when it comes to dining out, and have shown the beauty of Malaysian dishes. Our waiter who worked the Monday 1st April shift on the upstairs floor, around 7pm was very kind, tentative, and cheerful. I should also mention that the food was halal, and that they catered to those who were fasting with dates, and priority service! Unfortunately I have forgotten his name, but he was an amazing member of the team. I hope to come dining here again in the near future, and try out more of Satay Houses dishes.

This is not a place to miss. Staff is very friendly and food is unique. At least I have never come across a malaysian restaurant before. You can get both spicy and non-spicy food. Our daughter loved the nasi goreng! I had a spicy beef dish and my wife had a non-spicy coconut beef dish. The desserts are quite special and may not be in western style or taste but are very interesting and may surprise you, especially the 'ais kacang' with beans! I would never think beans go on a desert but it actually works. Great night, 5/5. Starter (prawns crackers) three main courses, coconut rice, two desserts, malaysian coffee and tea came to a total of 110 pounds (service is included in the price).

Pretty darn good food...seems nicely authentic . Satay was great. A bit tight on the seating but not too bad. Very attentive and polite service.

The food is actually good. I like it a lot. The place is quite small tho so can be a little noisy. The staff was friendly and nice.

Such a lovely restaurant tucked away from the busy main road. Service was incredible and the food was delicious! The waiter asked about spice levels and was great at suggesting items to order. All in all a lovely lunch dining experience!

The food is always very good when we visit this restaurant, however the portion sizes have reduced overtime and pricing has increased. The most recent menu has changed, but the starters were disinteresting. One of our favourites is no longer available 'begedil' which is a beef patty. They also offered biriyani rice which was amazing but no longer available. There Nasi rice options are still very good though. Still a good place to visit if you are in the area. In comparison to other Malaysian restaurants, its one of the best!!

I chose this because it was close to Paddington, but didn't expect it to be so fabulous. Really delicious food and a lovely ambience, just the right level of busy but quiet so we could have a good chat, excellent attentive service. And so tasty. I'll be back.

Honestly everything exceeded my expectations - from the delicious and authentic dishes to the exceptional service! I always look for Malaysian food whenever feasible so had to try this place. I ordered the satay, roti canai, nasi lemak, kway teow goreng, and have to finish off with an ais kacang - all top notch quality.

We organised a 28 person office lunch party, and Jermaine was great in helping us out throughout the whole process. Satay House did not disappoint! Very spacious private room downstairs, wonderful service, and delicious food! We will definitely be coming back.

We were staying near this restaurant and were interested in Malaysian food. We didn't make a reservation because we didn't know we had to. The lady told us that we can't do without her. We apologized and left. The man from the bar ran out to us and said that if you could eat within an hour, he would free up a chair for us. We said if they could cook it within an hour :-) and we really enjoyed it. Food great, environment too. Definitely give it a try, just make a reservation. Thank you very much and we recommend it.

Fabulous food! I got the Kari Laksa (spicy soup) , husband got the Bee Hoon Goreng (vermicelli noodle dish). Both were sooo good! Be warned, food tends to be spicy, with no mention of spice level on the menu, so if you’re not a fan of heat (we are), ask before you order and see if they can adjust it. Restaurant’s on the small side and they had steady customers on a Wednesday night…quite noisy, but worth it for the food!

The food is very good. The drink range very poor and the wine heavily marked up in price. The service was slow and that is the front of house. I have been going to the Satay House for about 25 years because of quality of the food and will continue to do so.

Ambiance is good for friends’ gathering. Service was very good. Food choices are somewhat limited, but tasted well.

We returned to Satay House for lunch today, after a long absence. We were in a hurry and ordered just four dishes. The food: chicken satay, gado gado salad, bee hong goreng & a roti canai was absolutely delicious, particularly the chicken satay which was eaten with warm praise by both of us. This was complemented by the lovely owner/manager who was warm, friendly and attentive, as was all the staff. I just wish we had had more time to relax and enjoy the superb lunch. For authentic Malaysian food, I highly recommend Satay House. It can be busy, so be sure to make a reservation.

A fantastic place to experience authentic Malesian food, served by very friendly staff.

Tucked away on a quiet street is a glorious explosion of Malaysian food—a cuisine I knew nothing about but was eager to try. The staff walked us through their dishes and tailored our selections to our preferred heat levels. Just a marvelous meal and companionable atmosphere. Perfect for a delightful lunch experience. We started off with Chicken Satay with a lovely peanut companion sauce and a Gado Gado vegetable salad. Very nice flavors. Moving into mains we enjoyed Nasi Goreng with its mix of chicken and prawn, Rendang Daging meltingly soft beef curry, and Kari Kambing lamb with just a hint of cinnamon, and Sayur Campur mixed vegetables cooked just enough to keep their crisp freshness. All good things and balanced with coconut rice and chewy roti bread. A good Italian bottle of red to settle us and a nice refreshing Lime ice tea. For dessert a new to us tapioca pudding with coconut and sweet palm sugar. Well worth the tasting even if we were too full to eat it all.

The best Malaysian restaurant in London. Fair price and great hospitality by the staff. Most favourite is Nasi Goreng Kampung and definitely Satay. Love the ambiance too in fine dining restaurant. Im rating 5 star for this place... I will come here again when I visit London!

We were so excited to try this place out when we see the Google reviews. We got so disappointed unfortunately this place use MSG( I had MSG reaction ) we ordered two MAIN DISHES but the portion of the food is a joke , the fried noodle with two not fresh shimp and few slices of meat , the curry only has few piece of small meat in it and it’s not even come with any rice with the over priced price tag . We still hungry after we spent for the dinner and had to go somewhere to eat again , be prepared better you already eat something before you go to this restaurant. The potion is way smaller than the picture. It is the size of my small fist .

Where do I start. Stepped foot into this place after getting to paddington station from Heathrow. A family in there was creating such chaos and kids were yelling and running in the tiny restaurant. They left after a while but the female server, who was whining and complaining about job the whole time, did not start cleaning until a while later, even when there was no one else in the restaurant. It took abit for me to flag down her attention, because she was so consumed in her misery. To add to our horrible dining experience, the Xmas music was on loop the whole time… so beware. EDIT: nasi goreng doesn’t come with chili… (what Malaysian restaurant doesn’t??). Ask for it and be prepared to pay £4+

A must go restaurant! Went here with my friends for dinner last Friday and everything was perfect! We were served by Najah and the service was excellent. She was very polite and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. Will definitely come here again Highly recommended!

We sat downstairs with friends. Ordered plenty of food with a waitress, and she confirmed our order by repeating all of them again. The food was served by another waiter, and he kept saying there was only one order left, despite us telling him that there were still three missing. He came back with our order and repeated exactly the same order we told the waitress before. (He could have just checked easily the missing dishes, instead he used the tone suggesting that we didn't give our order properly and "it was your fault"). He was being loud and disrespectful. I asked him to be more polite and he immediately raised his voice, shouting "I'm done, u guys are rubbish" and went on rambling angrily, straight at us, acting very aggressively. The rest of the dishes were served by the waitress and everything is fine. But the mood is ruined. I have booked the restaurant for my friends to try out the Malaysian dishes. No one came to apologize to us. Nothing. Honestly it was a huge disappointment, we have never had such awful service before in any restaurants. This restaurant is also charging more than other Malaysian restaurants nearby, and I would expect the service is to be better. The food is fine and authentic Malaysian, but I would never step into the restaurant again for the "great" service.

I was really excited to eat here when I saw this on Google Maps. However, I walked away after eating disappointed. A few things affected my rating: 1. Chicken satay was excellent. 2. The aubergine Curry (Pajeri Terung) was delicious. However, it was darker in color when compared to a photo I saw on here. When it showed up on the table, I was not expecting a much darker curry and honestly didn't know what that dish was! 3. The Kankung Belacan was just okay. Perhaps since I'm from Malaysia and had it many times, this dish in the restaurant was very mild. The belacan flavor was really lacking. I was wanting a much more belacan flavor in the dish. Maybe this is catering to the local taste buds. 4. The Gula Melaka dessert was truly disappointing! I was so excited to see this on the menu! However, the sago was way overcooked!! It had no texture at all, just mushy. And the coconut milk was a bit extreme in quantity! Because there was so much coconut milk, the sweetness of the gula melaka was almost unnoticeable. Service was good. Nice hibiscus decor in the walls. I will come back because I saw other dishes served that really had me wanting to try it. Hopefully, I'll have better luck.

Friendly staff, nice cuisine, excellent and very authentic tasting food, we had a large table and all the dishes fitted (ordered nine and also drinks). The only thing I would suggest is to get the decor better, put some nice Malaysian artefacts, plants, buy some excellent crockery/cutlerey...etc. Make it more classy then simply a great foodie place.

A very beautiful restaurant, intimate, a lovely ambience, and really kind and helpful staff. The food is delicious of course, and their teh tarik is the best I’ve had in London.

I have been dining at The Satay House since the early 70’s and it remains my favourite restaurant in London! I have entertained many friends there and they all agree with me, the food is exceptional, the service perfect, the environment cool and minimalist. The ownership has been in the same family for at least 50 years, Staying fresh and consistently marvellous!

I made a large group booking for 27 people and Satay House did not disappoint! We were able to organise a bespoke set menu for the group and, as I requested, served to the group by a specific time to ensure we had enough time to eat before heading to our next venue. The team were exceptionally accommodating, understood what was needed and were very happy to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. We even got some Christmas crackers on the table which was a very pleasant surprise. I am beyond impressed by the professionalism shown by everyone we were in contact with on the night. The food was outstanding, the rotis and the curries got special mention!, plus the atmosphere and service was top notch. Thank you so much for accommodating us and making the start of Christmas night out perfect!

Vi tog en sväng runt kvarteret och hamnade här. Liten och trång resturang, men maten var så god och kryddig. Jag frågade om min rätt var för stark, men hon sa ”moderate”. Den va så himla god! Stark men absolut inte för stark. Förrätten var också väldigt fräsch. På bilderna ser det inte så jättemycket ut, men eftersom huvudrätterna vi beställde nästan bara var kyckling och sås var vi tvungna att lämna en bit. Är man två normalt hungriga personer kan man dela på riset.

The roti canai is delicious and probably the best thing here Chicken satay is basic, nothing memorable The Rendang is delicious but meat was somewhat tough to cut through My friends had the Laksa which they seemed to like The chicken with coconut and lemongrass is on the sweeter side, and the chicken itself tasted a bit funky! Unfortunately, because of the funky tasting chicken I wouldn’t come back here. Servers were very nice and attentive! I didn’t like that the place was a bit dark

A restaurant I used regularly 40 years ago. It was good to return and see that there were very few changes. Standard of food was excellent with a wide range of authentic dishes. Staff were as friendly as ever and the next generation are now running the Satay House. Hope to return again soon.

Good authentic Malaysian dishes. Kway Teow was very tasty and nice big portion. Fish curry portion too small. White wine really bland. Service was decent, environment cosy. A bit off the beaten track but worth a visit

Situated in residential area. The peanut sauce for satay is highly recommended. Worth the travel for satay! Curry lamb is delicious.

The curry and roti were so so tasty, would also recommend the tapioca dessert. It’s been one of my favourite meals since moving to London last year. Service was fantastic. And very reasonably priced as well.

Our main courses seemed to have been forgotten. We waited for over 45 minutes. Other restaurants might offer a small starter as courtesy, however we received no such thing and communication on the status of the food was not proactive. For a restaurant that charges a mandatory 12.5% service, this was disappointing.

Restaurant was very busy which is definitely a recommendation in itself. Other Restaurants nearby were empty! Satay, great taste but a bit to hot/spicy for my wife and I. Seemed very authentic. Overall not the best place I've ever eaten in but very acceptable.

This might be the best Malaysian food we’ve ever had in our lives!! Full of flavour , big portions ( can easily share one dish between 2 but we ordered 1 each because it was sooo yummy) and the staff were so lovely. Drinks are quite expensive. Will definitely be coming back to try the rest of this menu!

Food is a little spicy so be careful, but everything else was amazing!

I have a particular interest in finding good quality satay, having eaten some of the best in Malaysia and Singapore in years gone and lust after that really high quality amazing taste! I was quite disappointed being frank with the satay here. The main issue was the sauce itself which seemed a good attempt but the peanuts inside were too noticeable and chewy/ large/ not of great taste. In satay sauce I’ve had overseas it’s always been the case the peanut is suffused into the sauce as a whole. I know one can never fully replicate the taste of satay in Asia but frankly I have to say I didn’t fully enjoy the satay here and at £14 for four skewers would have hoped for better. The chicken itself was good and the accompaniments. I would suggest that the chef look again at the recipe, revisits how it is made in Asia and what is needed to really get this up to a high standard. I think it is a great unique selling point but they need to enhance the offering. I also had Nasi Goreng which was good but there were only two prawns and little chicken in what was a very large bowl of rice. I always feel annoyed when I go to a restaurant and get charged £14 for a meal where they are trying to save money by restricting prawns/ meat content. From my perspective as a customer I would have been happy to pay £20 and have five prawns in the dish. That said I do appreciate students etc may not be able to cover such an amount and do know the restaurants in general are all doing this to manage inflation. However the location and feel of the restaurant suggest they are going for a high end vibe, hence I would recommend they re-visit how to up their offering, make it more appealing at a level above what one might expect to find in less aspiring restaurants. The atmosphere was excellent and I was impressed with the restaurant itself and location which is very nice.

I really give 5 stars but Satay House was very, very good. Small London restaurants do have issues with noise and service so be prepared to be patient and expect to hear mumbled conversation.
