I recently visited this restaurant for the first time since it changed its name, opting for a late lunch with my daughter. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from the start. Upon arrival, I noticed that the table next to us had left most of their food uneaten before departing—definitely not a promising sign. The service was lackluster, with slow and indifferent staff who seemed disinterested in serving us. The food itself was just average, a far cry from what it used to be. This place was once bustling with customers, but today, only two other tables were occupied, which speaks volumes about the decline in quality.

I, live in Tootingshire and “Arya Bhavan” is the only Best***** (5 Star) South Indian Vegitarian Restaurant in this part of South London SW17. “Arya Bhavan” also have two other restaurants in London WC2H and in Wembley HA0. Go back few years, establishment was Sarvana Bhavan, however the new franchise “Arya Bhavan” have not carried out any major changes even to the kitchen and to the front desk staff and they are good as gold. The kitchen staff travel to South India once a year to get more training and will bring that knowledge to the table. As a good food lover of this types of food, one has to get used to their own taste buds to enjoy South Indians Cuisine. The features are many and new interesting dishes available perhaps in the afternoon, which I believe coconut based ! (I will try that next week) All the Dosa dishes are, indeed the best in town. More over, they are value for money ! Also there are many other dishes in the Manu to be select to your Liking. The place was packed and everyone looked as content as I was. Normally, I call the front desk and book a table, by doing that I want be disappointed. Believe me, the place to be is the “Arya Bhavan” for an authentic South Indian Vegetarian Food.

I have eaten several times when the establishment was Sarvana Bhavan, however the new menu of Arya Bhavan is more extensive and feature many new and interesting dishes. No one spoke to us when we entered. We just a table and sat down. Eventually the menus were put on our table. Just be aware you do not get any courteous service. It felt as if you are in India on a street Dhaba. We were passing by and decided to try the place. We ordered North Indian Thali and Idli Vada. The thali curries did not have taste of the ingredients, the dhal, mix veg, chana and panner all tasted the same as if you were eating chillies. Do not waste you tome and money if you are expecting good food and service.

This is a very delightful South Indian Vegetarian Restaurant. Although relatively small, it’s very cosy and comfortable and very family friendly. The menu is quite extensive with a huge variety of vegetarian South Indian dishes such as dosas with a variety of fillings. There is also North and South Indian Thalis for one with a variety of curries, dall, vegetable rice, chapati, salad, popadum and even a sweet (gulab jamoon). All the dishes are very reasonably priced. A real taste of authentic South Indian vegetarian food. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I visited Savarna Bhavan Charing Cross London branch today along with my family. It was a nightmare for me and my family including my 3 year old Son.I had ordered one south Indian Thali,1 masala dosa,1 dosa and a water bottle. The food served was super spicy with lot of red chillies in it.Being an Indian,my endurance to chilli is pretty high but this food's chilli content was at another level.Service at the restaurant was extremely poor, waiter did not have the common sense of providing glasses with a bottle of water.I had to ask him,how a 3 year old will drink water without a glass??We had to remind them to provide the cutlery as the food was already served on the table. No prior warning was given by the waiter about the spiciness content of the food.Else we wouldn't have ordered. So called Chapati became hard like a papad within couple of minutes. When I complained about the food's quality,I was amazed to see the unapologetic and cold response from the staff.

I visited Saravana Bhavan both at Tooting and Leicester Square. In both places arrogance of the staff was at its peak. You go to a restaurant for an pleasurable experience - of course food is part of that. I invited my Australian friend to Saravana Bhavan in London Leicester Square. He sent a text back that the reviews were terrible. I convinced him but to my surprise I had terrible experience there. Not only we were made to wait without any reason but also we were treated badly. We were six people waiting in a corner near front desk- our group was three and other three were " Please guess whom I mean- fortunate ones". One lady waiter and the front office manager asked us to get out of the hotel and wait outside. We went out and the other three fortunate ones were there still inside. I asked him - you sent us out but what about the other three. When I heckled the front office manager that we had been waiting for a long time and people who came after us were being given seats - his reply was blunt "no seats". We were three people - a table with five got vacated and he refused to give us the seat. His contention was - it is for "FIVE". We did not eat there because after my repeated request the front office person told me that he would call the police !!!! I had to walk off with my Australian friend in rain looking for another restaurant in the midst of London's chaos due to Extinction rebellion.I am not sending any message to the restaurant as I am sure anything worthwhile will come out.

I did not realise this was part of a chain. The food is ok . It felt like I was eating a ready meal from one of the mainstream supermarkets. The lady serving me was very helpful and steered me towards a mild curry meal. I was served on steel plate with lots of spaces for food. I love these plates there is something comforting about them.A man came into the restaurant wanting to only use the toilet but he was politely told he was not allowed to. The problem was handled well. I like to know I am safe when I'm eating and this was reassuring. However, I did not use the toilets because they were a bit busy with people using them and I could not decide if they were safeI could not eat all my meals and there was no problem taking the leftovers home which I ate a few days later. Old vegetarian food has not killed me yet. There was a jug of water on the table and I was given a container to put my food to take homeThe meal was £9.95 which I do not consider as cheap because it is a dine and run but it is not daylight robbery. The service was what I wanted and was functional and politeI would use it again no problem but it has not become a favourite dine and run. Dine and runs should be £8.00, even in London.I was there 15 minutes eating and I waited about ten minutes[ maximum] for my food. Job done.

Extremely disappointing experience at this eatery. The service is borderline unfriendly and callous, only the New Zealander-sounding gentleman bothered to smile, greet us and ask us if everything was okay. The rest of the staff just watched and sulked. The vegetarian curries were extremely spicy and just overloaded with asafoetida. The dosa tasted rubbery, like it had been taken out from the fridge and microwave-heated! The vadas didn't taste freshly cooked and crispy either! When we asked for takeaway boxes, a reluctant gentleman just pot one box on our table and asked us to put the remnants of our meal there!! The lady at the tills was also silent and unfriendly! The waiter was utterly rude, he was very confrontational and shouted that he only had one chef when I questioned why he was bringing the food out in parts when it was a full meal and could not be eaten separately. When the food came out I was really disappointed in the schesuan noodles as they were nothing like the ones I always have, especially at the branch in Southall where they taste great. The noodles here were bright red in colour and tasteless and when we asked for them to be removed as they didn't taste right, the waiter was very abrupt and didn't speak to us at all or ask if he wanted anything else instead. Our trip to Saravanaa Bhavan was pretty stressful. Left waiting ages at the front then ushered in by a rude woman going 'Sit there, sit there' it was downhill from here. The staff all yell at each other across the restaurant and into the kitchen, this place has the ambiance of a sawmill. The staff were unanimously disinterested and downright fed-up looking. Ordering food was a nightmare, the waiter had no idea what we were talking about despite lots of pointing, he didn't seem to understand the concept of starter and main. We agreed to start our order again with him as we were getting nowhere, we then had to wait ages for his hand held touchscreen to reload. We did eventually finally order, wondering what would turn up at the table. The correct food did turn up and thankfully was good, in fact the Masala Dosa was absolutely delicious. My drink didn't turn up however, that was removed from the bill with relative ease after I mentioned it, which was a small mercy in this vortex of chaos. I wouldn't recommend Saravanaa Bhavan to anyone, I would rather sit on the M4.

Since the demise a few years ago of the excellent Kastoori, the vegetarian/South Indian choice in Tooting is limited to the branches of international chains, of which this is one. I really cannot recommend it.The curd or dahi wada was the worst I have ever tasted. Described on the menu as "sourless" yoghurt, a better word would be "tasteless" to describe the thick gloopy curd. The wada itself tasted of stale frying oil and there was no tamarind chutney on top. The same thick, tasteless yoghurt was used in our lassis, which were undersalted (most places oversalt them), and unseasoned. A pinch of ground roast jeera would have helped, but really, they need to use a more flavoursome yoghurt. From there on, things got a little, but not much, better. The sambhar was excellent, tangy and tasty, but the coconut chutney a travesty. Frankly, if it's not made from fresh coconut, coriander and chili, it's a why-bother addition, and I wish I hadn't bothered putting this in my mouth. The bhatura was impressively huge, but again unseasoned. The best ones I have had had some kalonji seeds to lift the flavour, otherwise - as in this case - the frying oil dominates. And I don't think I have ever eaten a duller avial. Done well, South Indian vegetarian cuisine is amazing, full of fresh, zingy flavours. But it really needs the love that will inevitably be smothered by chain management. Tooting desperately needs a decent *independent* indian-vegetarian place to serve up the fresh zingy flavours using the fresh ingredients that are sold in the shops along the High Street.

Heard such high recommendations of this place. Maybe that's why the meal was a let down. Thali items were mediocre and portion too big that leaving food on the plate makes you feel all the more that it was not that great. Will give it another try though as my veg friend who insists it's good does know his veggies. Perhaps it was the chefs off day and will make sure I am starving too.

I've been going to this restaurant for a while now. I like this place a lot. The food is vegetarian, fresh every time and very tasty. Love the dosa & idly dishes. Time to time the restaurant undergoes a slight refurbishment which livens the place up. The staff sometimes can be slow to take the orders. But otherwise cannot fault it.

Have been meaning to visit one of these restaurants having eaten in one during our time in Delhi, and we were not disappointed.Plenty of choice on the menu. Actually, there seemed to be more available than in the Delhi branch with the addition of some Chinese cuisine. Not sure why this has been added. Two standout dishes that I would recommend would be the Paneer Dosa and Masala Dosa, with a glass of sweet lime juice. When it came to ordering dessert though there was a lot missing from the menu - in fact, there were only about 3 items available from more than a dozen. My advice here would be to order the Gulab Jamons.Staff are really friendly and nice. The seating upstairs does feel a bit cramped though.Price is reasonable as well.

Every time I go, its a different experience, different food and definitely a different kind of service. So this time it was the Thali plate, it didn't disappoint. Go hungry and ask for seconds which they're happy to provide, although be prepared to ask more than once!!A wide range of customers make it a social place to eat.

We went to dinner at the Tooting Branch. The food was good and service was average, but you have to put up with that at this place. But it got rather atrocious...we paid the bill and left a rather large tip. We sat and were having a chat, when the manager came across and told us that we now had to leave. We asked why and told us that we had gone over the 10 minutes of time that we are allowed to stay after paying the bill. The manager told us it was part of their T&Cs, so I asked to see the T&Cs, but he did not show it to us and continuously told us we had to leave. We left rather intimated by him, but asked him if this was the right, but he did not budge and told us to leave.Shocked, disappointed, and upset we left...the little did he know my 76 year old mother was thinking of having a dessert...Would we ever go there again NEVER.So the moral is eat and run!!!

Went for lunch with family. The restaurant appeared very busy, and it seemed that many were regulars. Nothing fancy about the ambiance........no bells or whistles. Clean environment though. The food was mostly very good. we had the South Indian Thallii meal and vadai plates, both of which were good. The puri plate appeared a bit dense in oil. Their masala coffee was pretty good too. The service was average, very business-like and a little more warmth would go nicely with the meal.

Having orders a range of dishes including panner, dosa and a thali, it can be said that all of the portions were generous and all dishes were tasty and fresh. The service was good with orders being taken swiftly and food arriving quickly. However service and presentation could be improved, at several points throughout our meal we felt as if we were being spied upon. A minor point being that our drinks were served directly in their can with a straw, it would have been nice to have been offered a glass and some ice. Overall fresh and tasty food however service could be slightly improved.

22 curry restaurants down. You would think we've seen it all. But hot on the heels of our first CURRYBOND buffet comes our first all vegetarian curry place, Saravanaa Bhavan. Somewhat delayed in the CURRYBOND running order after some mild trepidation about an evening without both beer and meat. However, it's time has come, and we've come prepared with our very own CURRYBOND (almost) vegetarian, Di to raise the spirits of the meat loving die hards amongst us.Saravanaa Bhavan, is nestled nicely among the classics of the CURRYBOND corridor on Tooting High Street. Adorned with a white and red neon sign that certainly draws the eye, as well as an impressive list of other countries you can find similar fare, from USA to UAE, Kuwait to Qatar. Inside, it's fairly standard low key furnishings with bright lights and metal trays overflowing with veggie curry goodness. It's busy when we arrive and busy when we leave maintaining a nice hum of atmosphere throughout.Venue Score - 7.5/10.We've got a solid turnout this time with most of the CURRYBOND regulars back on board. The menu is extensive and somewhat overwhelming...The inevitable curry greed kicks in and we proceed to order far too much food starting with some tasty sounding starters, Devilled Potato, Samosa, Chana Batura, Cocktail Idl, Masala Dosa, Paneer 65 and Onion Bhajis.Everything emerges extremely promptly but nonetheless everything tastes fresh straight out of the kitchen. The Chana Batura is spiced chickpeas accompanied by a mega puri which could have enveloped a small child! The cocktail Idls come first after a recommendation from our waiter and are excellent bite sized crunchy balls with a variety of chutneys to dip along with. My dosa is suitably giant, crispy and filled with tasty veg masala goodness. A lovely start then, for the most part...One of the lessons learnt from the curry journey has been South India is certainly not the home of the onion bhaji...Bhaji Score 2/10.It's not long before our mains emerge, in fact the prompt delivery starts to cause us some serious table space issues with metal trays quickly stacking up. After some stacking logistics we tuck to the main attractions. Mushroom Rogan Josh, Paneer Jalfrezi, Vegetable Butter Masala, Vegetable Jalfrezi and a full Indian meal presented in a lovely Thali tray with individual pots of intrigue. It is without exception, delicious. South India is clearly veggie Valhalla. The curries are deep, creamy and moorish, the rice is light, fluffy and fragrant and the breads and warm and crisp. My set meal gives me soup, curry, pickles, chutneys, rice, bread and then sweets! Our only regret is finishing most of the starters leaving limited capacity for the main courses.Food Score - 8.5/10.With piles of curry trays and an embarrassing amount of leftovers we call for the bill. Without meat or alcohol to jack up the price we get a solid valued bill of £94.60 which comes in at £15.76/CURRYBONDer.Value Score - 7.7/10.So, just when you thought you've done it all, Tooting pops up with yet another curry gem. If veggie's your thing, look no further than Saravanaa Bhavan, which makes a late dart for the top of the CURRYBOND leaderboard. If we'd had a few less CURRYBOND carnivores it might have just made it...Overall - 8.4/10

We were in the area so thought we should give this branch a try since we are regulars at their East Ham branch. The overall experience was a bit disappointing. Service was disorganised and not particularly friendly. The ledge next to my seat was very dusty, and the atmosphere overall was a bit dull. We ordered two South Indian Thalis (£7.95 each) and some of the dishes weren't what we are used to getting. Each of us had different yogurt dishes for some reason, and a lot of the dishes were much slicker than what they serve in East Ham. Overall, we would stick to their other branches.

I have been here several times, as I like the fact that they're a genuine Indian restaurant and aren't pretentious, like some other local restaurants. The food is usually great, as is the service. We usually eat in, but recently ordered a take away as we were in a rush, but this took over 40 minutes! This is not acceptable in my opinion. People had sat down after we ordered, eaten and left before we even received our food. I can't see how 3 tables are higher priority than someone who ordered before them. This made me late for my evening plans. If I hadn't already paid, I would have cancelled the order and left. The food was good, but not worth the wait. There's no excuse for this, as the restaurant wasn't full.

We were visiting London in July/August 2016 and decided to eat at Saravana Bhawan, Tooting for a change instead of the usual Eastham restaurant where we have had many positive experiences. We were of course warned beforehand about the Tooting restaurant but still decided to take the plunge as we thought how can a Saravana Bhawan restaurant ever serve bad tasting food? And boy, did I regret my choice of the Tooting restaurant? We tried the Medu Vada with coconut chutney and sambar which was horrible. The vadas were fluffy and while they looked well done, the insides were not cooked and the chutney was disgusting, possibly off. The silver lining was that the sambar was excellent. We tried the parathas and korma. This surprisingly tasted pretty good, after all, how can one stuff up such an item. Well done!We then tried the Chana Bhatura. While the Bhatura was reasonably good but very oily, the Chana tasted awful. The fourth item we tried was the Adai and Avial. The Adai was tasteless and oily while the avial was an apology. At the end we tried some sweets-gulab jamun, kaju katli, kaju roll, badusha and motichoor laddu, none of which were worth writing home about.Overall, a very disappointing experience. Good money flushed down the drain. Next door the Pakistani restaurant may have given us better food.We have had excellent experiences and very tasty food in virtually all the Saravana Bhawan's we have eaten in various parts of the world, but this is one bad experience which we will not forget easily and will definitely avoid going to the Tooting restaurant in future.Unless these guys brush up their act and sack their chef, it would take a lot for us to revisit this restaurant at tooting, London.Other branches, we will visit for sure.

Restaurants in Tooting are usually busy Sunday lunchtime, so maybe I would choose to go Sunday evening.

We have visited this place many time, usually on a Saturday night, its pretty busy, so sometimes you do have to wait to be seated. Definitely ignore the negative reviews- Saravana Bhavan has consistently excellent South Indian food; the dosai are some of the best in Tooting (which is saying a lot). The bhatura are also excellent, as are the curry dishes- we had a Punjabi kadai paneer which was surprisingly tasty given that this place specialises more in South Indian cooking. Excellent value, courteous service and great food.

An authentic south Indian restaurant in Tooting which you can judge from quality of vegetarian food and ethnic mix of clientele. Service was good when 9 of us turned up for Sunday meal around 1630 and we quickly found a table in main dining area. We enjoyed a mixture of Dosas and Thalis and the kids really enjoyed the Mango drinks. More than we could eat at less than £10 a head (probably helped by not having an alcohol license) they also provided some bags to take away Samosas. My third visit and I've enjoyed each time.
