I can honestly say, this was the best cooked breakfast I've had in ages! In addition, my bedroom was spotlessly clean, warm and very comfortable. Thank you Tim and team.

Fabulous old Georgian pub/hotel renovated in a traditional style which I much prefer to the ultra modern but empheral refurbs of so many hotels in Old buildings . The staff were very friendly and helpful , and the meals we had were the best on our Norfolk tour. A bit pricey, but well worth it. Although it is the middle of nowhere , the hotel was completely full, and I enjoyed the isolation . Going for a walk in the pitch black night (no street lights here!) was really atmospheric , with the creatures of the night doing their thing . The animals just over the wall in the nearby Wolterton Estate were also hugely entertaining . Highly recommended.

Checked out this morning after spending 3 nights at this B&B. It's in the middle of nowhere but it is quaint and the surrounding area is picturesque. It is so peaceful and relaxing. Tim and their staff are lovely, made me feel very welcome and looked after me my whole stay. Breakfast and evening meals are delicious... I highly recommend the rump steak. It is probably the best steak I've ever eaten!! I'm definitely going to rebook when I return to Norfolk

A friend organised a Friday lunch with a group of 8 of us. They have a separate dining room with lovely pictures, large windows and a glowing woodburing stove. Fabulous on a cold day. We all chose different dishes, everyone claiming that their dish had to be the best. Fantastic efficient but discreet service. Honestly, I couldn’t recommend the Saracen’s Head more highly. You could combine a group lunch like this with a walk nearby and then you could treat yourself to three courses!! I did anyway! Congratulations to the team. Wonderful place you have all created!

A warm welcome when we arrived without a booking on a Thursday lunchtime. Limited menu for a very good price and a specials board. We selected the salmon from the specials and beef carpaccio for starters. Both excellent. Followed by the two mains on offer. Again great with accompaniments of roasted vegetables and kale. Wine by the glass and real ale met each of our wants. Very enjoyable lunch.

Fabulous Sunday lunch. A little gem in the middle of countryside. Great service, friendly but non intrusive. Pumpkin soup starter was full of flavour and silky smooth. Roast beef tender, Yorkshire pudding fluffy and crisp and roast potatoes tasted delightful and rich. Wine selection great and good value. I didn't have dessert, but parter had the sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce, which was 'best ever'. Can't wait to return to try the Al Carte menu and specials.

We were fortunate enough to enjoy a lovely meal at Saracens Head on a bright October weekend. My steak and ale pie with smokey mash and parsnips was excellent. Other members of our party were very pleased with their luncheon choices of venison and their vegetarian main course. The crispy belly pork was also much enjoyed. To end our meal on a delightful sweet note, we enjoyed the sweet and tart blackberry and apple crumble, a luscious vanilla creme brulee, and a rich affogato. The presentation and service were wonderful!

We can't rate the food here highly enough. All the ingrediants are sourced locally and used to create the most flavioursome gorgeous food that I have had in a very long while. We started with the Smoked Salmon from Brancaster. It was accompained by Crispy Capers and horseradish citrus. We had some cheeky scrumptious artisan bread on the side which was so naughty but nice. For mains I had the Pork Steak, served with spiced pumpkin puree, sauteed mushrooms and apple caramel. OMG words cannot express how delicious this was. My partner went for the Wolverton Lamb served with roasted root veggies, black pudding mash and whisky lamb sauce. All washed down with a bottle of crisp, cold muscade, we finished off with the Cheese board and a heavy red. Oh what a treat!! The team are absolutely amazing. They are actively listening and looking to properly serve the customer and that is rare these days. I can't rate the Saracen's Head highly enough.

This historically was part of Wolterton Park and belonged to the descendants of Horatio Walpole. Its name reflects part of coat of arms of Walpole family. It is a short distance from the entrance to the estate and stands in splendid isolation with its ivy clad facade The layout consists of three separate rooms as it was not originally constructed as an inn/pub but for residential purposes. So even though it is slight drawback there are so many other positives - it is an embracing intimate atmosphere and the food does the talking. We ate there twice during our stay at Wolterton Park. The first visit we chose the beef of high quality cooked to perfection and locally sourced from Blickling Estate which backs onto Wolterton Park. The second visit we had Sunday roast menu of locally sourced pork - when every pub does the same it needs to stand out to be commended and yes it does.It was flavoursome and tender and highest quality

As it turned out, I should have requested outside because it was a beautiful evening! However, the dining room had been reconfigured to ensure social distancing so we felt quite safe. The menu, limited but really tempting, is set out on a blackboard on one wall. For starters one of us chose the tomato and Parmesan tartlet, whilst the other chose the crab and avocado cocktail. Both were excellent. By coincidence we both chose smoked haddock on a bed of crushed new potatoes for main course, served with beautifully cooked courgettes and green beans. We indulged in a pannacotta and dark chocolate tart for dessert and both were delicious. This is fine dining in north Norfolk, well worth the drive into the country. The Saracen's Head is an absolute gem located by a deer park and rolling agricultural land. Off the beaten track in the beautiful North Norfolk countryside. Well worth a visit. Not the easiest place to find, but all the better for the remote location.A few months ago we booked dinner, bed and breakfast to celebrate my birthday. We arrived around lunchtime. We were welcomed warmly and shown to our room. Our room was on the first floor. It was large and airy and being a Georgian building it had high ceilings. Our bedroom was at the back of the building and had a lovely view over a rustic courtyard surrounded by traditional farm buildings. Adjoining the room was an ample bathroom which included an over-bath shower and had plenty of towels and toiletries. After settling-in we made our way to the bar. Having already eaten we opted to sit in the bar and have a few pints of Woodforde's Wherry - a local Norfolk amber ale The bar area and dining room were busy with people eating their lunch. The pleasant background noise of restrained music and the gentle chatter of the diners accompanied our afternoon drinks. Later in the evening we returned to the bar for dinner. There were several other people who had booked for dinner. A group who had not booked were also welcomed and shown to a table. Not booking is not advisable as this place is very popular.... and rightly so. After aperitifs we were shown to our table in the dining room that adjoins the bar. The room was warmed by a wood-burner in the fireplace and lit by the warm glow of incandescent filament bulbs in the wall-lights. The comprehensive menu was written on a large blackboard on the wall. After choosing a nice bottle of wine we ordered out dinner. My partner had smoked salmon with prawns Marie Rose to start. The dish sounded to us like a bit of a '70's revival..... it was, and none the worse for it. It was served with locally baked bread. She told me that the smoked salmon was the best she had ever tasted. I opted for a chicken, bacon and pistachio terrine that was served with a delicious sweet onion chutney (with a just the right amount of chilli). Again, delicious and perfectly balanced. We both chose the haunch of venison for our main. This was served with red cabbage, potato, mixed vegetables and a lovely deep and rick gravy. I love red cabbage, but my partner is not a fan. The gentleman who took our order said it was absolutely no bother to substitute the red cabbage for some creamy white cabbage. She took advantage of this. The venison was served as it should be - pink. It was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. All washed down with a fruity Fleurie. For dessert I chose "Dark Chocolate Nemesis" with pistachio ice cream. I would describe the aptly-named pudding as an intensely chocolatey brownie-cake. It was a chocolate lover's dream. The creamy pistachio ice cream was the perfect foil to the uber-choco-loveliness. My partner was tempted by the vanilla panna cotta with poached rhubarb. She doesn't often utter profanities, but her dessert was so good that she actually swore at it! Our desserts were accompanied by a rich and smooth Adnam's dessert wine. The Saracen's Head pride themselves on locally sourcing as much of their food as possible. In fact, the sign-board outside says "Sunday Roast from a field near here".After dinner, we enjoyed a few more drinks by the glowing wood-burner.Following our memorable meal we headed upstairs to bed. We had a good-night's sleep in the peace of the Norfolk countryside. In the morning we made our way downstairs to breakfast. There was a large and varied offering of cereals, fruit-salad, yogurts and conserves. There was also a generous menu of cooked breakfasts including kippers, smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and of course the ubiquitous full English with eggs cooked whichever way you desired. We both opted for the fry-up..... and what a fry-up it was! Top-quality ingredients cooked to perfection with not a trace of oil on the plate. All served with as much tea and toast as we could squeeze in. Over the years we have both endured many mediocre hotel breakfasts. The Saracen's Head breakfast was an absolute delight and was the 'icing on the cake' of our short stay.Throughout our stay all of the staff were warm, welcoming and attentive. Thank you.... and see you for the next birthday celebration!

Tim and Janey - a husband and wife team - give you a warm welcome and the food is fresh, interesting, and gorgeous. With three rooms all with roaring fires and nocks to hide away in I've always felt relaxed, comfortable and at ease. With a small menu using local and seasonal foods it's always a treat. So going back many years I dined at the Buckinghamshire Arms, Blickling where the food was superb and with a sweet trolley to die for! The chef was of course Robert Dawson Smith and he then moved onto the Saracens Head. So several years after he retired I have at last achieved a long held ambition to dine at this fine establishment. And what a treaty it was. We actually came on Norfolk Restaurant week where the menu is restricted but the value great. We had a lovely welcome and generally the service in the intimate reastaurant was super. The food was just great and although you could argue that the tables were a little close together we actually had a very pleasant conversation with our adjoining diners. This pubhotel is a little difficult to find for the first time without a sat nav but well worth the effort.

I was recommended The Saracens Head by a friend over 5 years ago but never got the chance to try it out. Then, when an opportunity arose to find somewhere in Norfolk that offered dinner, bed and breakfast for a 1 night quick couples get away, I suggested we should give it a go. And I’m pleased we did. The accommodation was incredibly comfortable and spotlessly clean. The bed huge and cosy. Then we headed down for dinner where we got a warm welcome and great service. The food at Saracens Head is top drawer too and all local might I add. A superb wine list topped it all off. The Saracens Head is an absolute gem and a special place that I will now return to time after time.

We've eaten here for a number of times, but last night we agreed was one of the best meals we have eaten anywhere for a long time. Black pudding and pigeon breast for a starter, beautifully cooked pigeon, delicious black pudding. So good we asked where they came from- Whites in Aylsham-we bought pudding from them the next day. For mains we had lamb steak-slightly over cooked-but the absolute star was quail, roasted with a harissa and honey paste, with a yoghurt and jus sauce. We had to split it to stop a fight as to who got what. Unbelievably good. The messiest linen napkins were the result of having to pick the quails to pieces to make sure we didn't miss anything.

The food and the service at the Saracens Head is "always" excellent - and our visit to try their Resaurant Week menu was no exception..........except that everywhere else we tried during this years Restaurant Week "stretched" themselves - and delivered something over and above their normal offering. The Saracens Head food was exactly what we would have expected of them "normally" - so, in that sense, they fell a bit short of our expectations. A tad disappointing although the food was great

We had amazing dinner here; all four of us including 16yo and 11yo had a starter each, all of which were absolutely divine. Mains didn’t disappoint us either and finishing the evening with gorgeous puddings, we felt like we’d just had the best dinner in a long time.

As we travelled around North Norfolk there were signs outside most villages saying slow you down. It couldn't be more apt as a title for this review.

Miles from anywhere but worth the trip to find this great pub. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere and attentive bar and restaurant staff. We had a delicious dinner from the varied and interesting menu. Starters of a sizeable crab and terrine followed by a savoury cheesecake and venison. We loved it all. Feeling full by this stage we opted for tasty local ice creams to follow. Stayed one night in a very comfortable bed and had a great breakfast of kippers although the menu had lots of other cooked options.. It is very obvious that this pub is not part of a chain. It shows in the attention that the staff care about the place and their customers. You are never made to feel like you are a number, more like an old friend. Would definitely go back.

We had been meaning to visit for some time, glad we finally did. As it says it can be tricky to find, but worth looking for. Food was excellent and staff friendly.

This is a real favourite of ours and we go all year round as thankfully it's on our doorstep. Today I had the best lobster thermidor I've had in years. We ate in the sunshine in the pretty courtyard. The menu isn't huge (personally I hate pages and pages of options) but you are guaranteed local sourced, seasonal food which is always beautifully cooked by talented chef Mark. Robbie, who's front of house, is always friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. But do book - because it's so special it can get very busy.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in North Norfolk and it has now added a £15 two course lunch (£20 for three courses) to the mouth watering menu on the blackboards.

We visited twice during our holiday in Norfolk, first off for Lunch and then for Dinner a few days later. Our revisit says it all. This a very friendly restaurant with a distinctly "Italian" feel to its ambiance run by a team of people who truly understand the business of customer service and the provision of a quality product. The menu is imaginative and the food is very appealing. On both our visits the restaurant was full. We made reservations for both of our visits. We recommend the Saracens Head and would not hesitate to return when we are next in the area.

Spent a lovely warm summers evening here enjoying a few beers in the attractive garden and some fine food. Enjoyed meeting and chatting to the owners about their colourful career.

Really nice location with lovely garden. Unfortunatley the food was expensive and did not live up to the price. It was ok but just not what you would hope for when paying the prices charged.

Had dinner at the Saracens Head this week which is a pretty pub/hotel. There was nothing terribly wrong about it but nothing terribly right either. Food was OK, but not as good as expected for the price - pleasant fillet of fish, but it was over-cooked, as was the veg; fairly bland vegetarian option. Friendly service and nice beer, but the whole evening was rather less than the sum of its parts.

With a group of ex-RAF personnel I went for a midweek lunch. The host was very welcoming and friendly which is always a good start. I choose from the set lunch menu as I cannot manage large portions. At £20 for a 3 course lunch it is priced at the right level.

Dropped by on a rare weekend day off, for a beer and a plate of chips. Easily persuaded by charm of the place, the staff and the lunchtime menu: 2 courses for £15. Appetising and just the job: starters mackerel pate and pigeon, followed by beef stroganoff and grilled salmon. Delicious and affordable!

A dinner with friends for our annual catch-up, and decided to meet at The Saracen's Head. The staff were very friendly, the local beer was great and the atmosphere was excellent, and it was a busy Saturday evening - we had high expectations of the food which, sadly, did not come up to scratch. The portions were small, especially my shoulder of lamb and the sea trout, and the steak was on the tough side - my lamb was not hot when it arrived at the table so it must have been waiting on the pass for a while. If we had not been with friends then I would have sent my food back. The quality of the food was good but the portions & presentation did not warrant the high price tag. Disappointed

Visited twice this year in the evening in January for my birthday and for Sunday lunch in February. Both visits exceeded expectations. My husband and I ordered the steak for my birthday meal which was cooked to perfection and a melt in the mouth experience. Took some friends for Sunday lunch recently and again good varied menu to choose from and excellent cuisine . A treasure of a place particularly as I am a gin fan and they stock lots of unusual and local gins .

We visited the Saracen's Head last evening with friends and couldn't have had better food or service. Everything was cooked to perfection, extremely well presented and delicious. It was a very well balanced menu at a very reasonable cost. Well worth the drive from Norwich on a cold dark evening. We look forward to returning soon.

Not been before and first impressions were OK as we were squeezed into a corner on a busy day but having said that service was good and food came quickly. Interesting starters, leek and local cheese tart delicious, lamb terrine also good. Veg tagine good and spicy but unimaginatively served, pheasant in parma ham delicious, puddings rice pudding a little dry, pannacottas very wobbly and lemony! Drinks very well priced and offered tasters of a wine and beer choice to ensure we were going to like them, very civilised and a great idea.

My partner and I had high expectations of the Saracen's Head after reading the reviews. Unfortunately, we found the chap who greeted us to be unfriendly and unwelcoming. The experience was altogether an odd one. It's clearly a local place for local people - outsiders don't seem to be welcome. Fawlty Towers without the humour, you might say.

I haven’t felt compelled to write a review for some time, but our Sunday lunch was so good it would be remiss not to acknowledge. Having made an online booking we arrived to find our table waiting. The service and food were faultless and the team serving were both friendly and professional. It was great to relax in a pub where well behaved dogs are welcome.

We had dinner last night at The Moorings and it was absolutely delicious! We both had the cuttlefish to start, followed by sea bass and monkfish and my husband had the ginger cake with toffee sauce. All excellent. The service was friendly and efficient. We will definitely be returning!
