Santo's Higham Farm Hotel & Restaurant in North East Derbyshire

Had afternoon tea with friends, lovely surroundings and views outside, cosy and clean inside. Large car park.

Visted here with friends for a afternoon tea which I booked using a Groupon voucher. When we arrived the manager quite loudly asked about the Groupon which I thought was unnecessary. The afternoon tea included a glass of Bucks Fizz each that when the waiter brought them over, he accidentally knocked over a glass that went all down my back, I accept that accidents happen and he did apologise, but at no time was I given anything to dry myself with, or asked by the Manager if I was ok, so I ended up using the napkin off the table to dry myself and also the puddle on the floor, I then spent the rest of the time in wet, sticky clothes. The afternoon tea was very tasty but it would have been nice to have had the coffee (only one cup each) served with it instead of having to go ask the wiaiter as he seemed to have forgotten and also to be asked if anyone wanted another. When asked if we had enjoyed our tea, I replied that it would have been alot nicer without the Bucks Fizz soaking my clothes, the Manager casually apologised but didn't seem to care, so unfortunately this isn't somewhere I would go to again, nice food shame about the staff.

Been a few times for Sunday dinner - over the last few months; always turned up on spec, & have always received a warm and friendly welcome from all of the staff we have come across. Cannot fault our food that we’ve had. Portions are generous, including a huge Yorkshire pudding. The staff are all really lovely too.

This was my 3rd visit, having previously had an xmas dinner and an afternoon tea. Today we had lunch, the chips were disgusting, hard, they seemed to be old potatoes. We asked to see the manager, but the chef came out. He was very heightened in his approach, raising his voice and becoming aggressive towards us. Then stating the potatoes were locally sourced and cooked yesterday and then fresh today, stating they had been stood. We explained they were not hot but hard and not freshly cooked. Again we asked to speak to the manager, a deputy manager came out smirking. Stating the manager was not available. She Told my friend she was being aggressive, she was agreeing with the chef that the chips were fresh. What ever happened to customer service?? Although the fish and scampi was fresh and good, the chips were not. The chef felt they were all cooked in the same oil! I do wonder if he has any qualifications in cooking, he certainly has none in customer service. My friend thought he was going to hit me because of how aggressive he was.

Absolute top class service for 60th birthday celebration. From the 1st time we visited to arrange Sunday lunch party for 40 family and friends, we received such professional service from Roma through to the party. Wow the room and table were incredible and 3 course meal just wonderful, all the guests delighted with staff and service. Can’t recommend enough this venue.

Last minute decision to find somewhere for Sunday dinner & it was really nice. Good choice of meats on menu and we both enjoyed a Sunday roast. Service was efficient & friendly too.

Family Friday night meal and first time visitors. Booked a table. The view from the back of the car park is excellent but they haven’t brushed the leaves away or made an effort. Entered the bar to find young bar man with no personality or manners. Very quite for a Friday with no real atmosphere. Shown to the restaurant and there was a large table in with kids etc who were load and kids were playing videos on their phone loudly. The music was awful so bad I like dance trance musics not nice meal type environment. The food was ok, no complaints. Not a large menu but ok. The waiter/bar staff were quite scruffy. No atmosphere or any reason to return. Just ok but the music and state of the toilets led me to a poor rating.

We went for afternoon tea. It started very well the receptionist was very pleasant and we were seated at 3 pm in a lovely room and a pot of tea and 2 Buck’s Fizz were served immediately. At 3:27 I asked a waitress if we had been forgotten. She went to check & said the chef was warming something up. I poured another cup of tea but it was stone cold. When our afternoon tea was delivered I asked for another pot of tea. This was slapped on the table with very bad grace there was no milk & I couldn’t use my cup as it was full of cold tea. The afternoon tea was very poor value for money. There were 6 tiny sandwiches, about 5 hot cocktail sausages and 2 cobs. There were 2 slices of dry battenburg, 2 brownies & 2 macarons. Bizarrely there was also 2 pots of jam and 2 lumps of cream. I would have expected a couple of scones but no luck. Overall it was a huge disappointment as the afternoon tea was a Christmas present from my son. The food and service were very poor. We will not be returning

Overnight stay to celebrate a special occasion. Stayed in the Sherwood suite, which was spotless and had a lovely, spacious bathroom. Nice touch with the coffee machine and facility to have fresh milk in the room. Meal in the main restaurant was excellent, I particularly enjoyed the scallop starter. Husband would definitely recommend the fillet steak followed by the chocolate bar dessert! Very well looked after by Sam and his team, who were all very attentive and friendly. Breakfast was the traditional fayre. Good quality all round, including the pastries and yoghurts. Again, very good service.

Called in on spec - a table in the sports bar was offered to us. We opted for the Fryday Friday menu, as opposed to the other menu offered - which had a good choice on. We both had cod and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce; super tasty and very generous portions. Staff were friendly and professional. Recommended.

Chose to stay at the hotel party due to the reviews of restaurant. The menu was not very extensive but had some traditional dishes but also some more unusual options - which was what I went for. Starter and dessert were really excellent. Hotel room was good too - a bit quirky in deco with nice features from the old stone building.

Second time we have been for afternoon tea and both times have been great. Everything we had was fresh and tasty. Especially the scone and cakes. Plenty of tea and coffee. Given lots of time to eat our tea and relax. Then as we went on a hot day we spent sometime afterwards sitting on the terrace enjoying the fab panoramic views. Will definitely return again.

Myself and my husband went for afternoon after getting a deal on a voucher, booked in via email which was quick with responses. Arrived early and was seated immediately, staff quite friendly, brought a glass of Buck’s Fizz followed by tea and coffee of choice. Then they brought the sandwiched etc out, the bread was dry. Like it had been sat out on the side for hours. I chose coronation chicken and the filling was very dry too for coronation chicken. I couldn’t bring myself to try another sandwich, my husband tried the ham and mustard, egg and cress and cheese and cucumber but the bread was too dry. We both them had a scone but no ordinary scone, vanilla and cherry with cream and strawberry jam. Far to sweet and sickly and again quite dry. I then tried the brownie with and topping on, honeycomb I think but it tasted awful, I spat it out. The brownie was soft. After that couldn’t bring myself to try the battenburg or macaroon. It seems they change these each week. They serve 2-5 daily afternoon tea but after the dry bread seeming like it had been out hours, I won’t be returning. If they can’t get simple things right what will the meals be like?

We came for dinner not long ago, I had a steak, the chips seemed very sweet to the point I checked our salt pot to make sure it wasn’t sugar! The food is always tasty, substantial portions, and the staff always attentive in the dining areas but not so much on the bar! Every time we go we seem to be waiting a while at the bar to be served to the point we often have to ask the reception team to be served. We will be back but I think the service needs addressing even if someone just often checks if anyone is waiting.

We visited last night for an evening meal (19/03/22) and it was excellent! Staff were very attentive, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the food was amazing! The last time I visited Santos was at a wedding and pleased to say the standard is equally as good as it was then. Will definitely be returning.

Had a meal for four booked and, it may have been 2 years since we last visited, but it's just as good as it ever was! Good food and friendly attentive service. It certainly won't be another 2 years before we visit again. Thank you, the Bown & Nicholson family.

Called in on spec; staff were very welcoming and friendly. Ordered drinks at the bar and went through to the restaurant. Food was lovely - generous portions. Will return.

Had a lovely meal early evening & the food was delicious & service friendly & professional. Our daughter & boyfriend went a couple of hours later & they had a fantastic time with the burger ranking apparently in the top 3 ever eaten.

The worst aspect of our stay were the dirty towels in our room. On arrival soem towels were folded on the bed ans 2 left in the bathroom. 2 of the towels on the bed were disgusting. Photos attached. There was a wedding partty there when we arrived so didn't like to make a fuss at reception.When I mentioned it the next day it was totally unaddressed as was my comment that the lack of cleanliness in the room was worrying. I'd had to clean the small mirror and wipe around the bath.The restaurant food was excellent and worthy of 2 rosettes. The young staff were great. Won't be returning however.

We went to Santo’s for a long delayed Groupon Christmas present of a cream tea for two. We were pleased with reception staff when booking via email so were prepared for an enjoyable time. We were in no way disappointed when we arrived. It was all fresh, enjoyable food with a tea pot refill. We weren’t rushed and allowed to leave when ready. I can recommend it to others.

The king of cream teas it was Amazing.everything homemade and everything looked and tasted like a masterpiece. Beef with Stilton and caramelised onion rolls,Then homemade cheese and onion rollStill warm!Then Earl grey and walnut scone with cream and Jam,That’s not even starting on the Amazing cakes.We now need to go to try out the rest of the food.

My husband have just returned from Santo’s Higham , after a short break away. The were attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them. Also the staff were friendly and gave a warm welcome making it feel homely. The food was first class and fantastic local produce, the room was spotless and Covid regulations were in place and I can see why it got rated high with the AA for Covid secure. The decor of hotel fitted in well with building and the surrounding area. We were very impressed we’ve booked a return trip to celebrate the New year.

Santos Higham Farm is a pleasant hotel located in a nice rural village. We dined in the bar area which was cosy with piped music creating a good atmosphere. The staff were attentive and there were good levels of hygiene displayed with staff wearing face masks. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. Will return soon for sure.

It was great to see Higham Farm buzzing with so many people enjoying sharing the bill with Boris! Have been here a few times and always thought it deserved to attract more people - tonight it did, and it didn’t disappoint! Good food, great service. Thank you

This was our first meal after the lifting of the covid restrictions.We couldn't have been made more welcome ,All staff followed infection control policy throughout our visit,which made us feel safe.The service and food was amazing.I would defenatly recommend a visit to Santos

Het is is niet een luxe of fancy restaurant of met zeer uitgebreide menukaart met delicatessen maar eentje waar je gewoon goed er heerlijk eten. Porties zijn van voldoende formaat om je buik goed te vullen, geen kunstwerkjes op je bord maar bereid met verstand van koken & bakken.Aan een tafel eten welke open aan een bar grenst waar de televisie luid aan staat zal niet iedereen aanspreken maar als je functioneel goed wil eten is dat (voor mij) geen probleem, bied wel een soort van gezelschap.

Visited for a work Christmas party. The staff were polite and helpful. The food was very average. Had plaice for a main which was bland. Christmas pudding was also average. Colleagues had a vegetarian option which was on the dry side. General decor was very dated. Lots of blue velour, monogrammed carpets and framed celebrity autographs. Needs to move forward both in terms of decor and food if it’s going to keep up.

I had a wonderful time here at a friends wedding the facilities were excellent lovely food and efficient staff serving and the bars were good too

My husband and I got married here last month. The staff worked hard to make our day perfect. The food was superb and the whole day went as well as we expected. I would thoroughly recommend Santos as an excellent wedding venue.

We had a groupon afternoon tea and was impressedProper Buck’s Fizz & nice coffee, sandwiches were top quality with butter and fresh high quality fillings, the sones were so fresh they were made for us, the cheese one is the best I have had in years, the cakes were good, Staff polite helpful and not intrusive.Lovely afternoon

I would highly recommend Santos for an amazing afternoon tea. Myself, my daughter and daughter in law were delighted with the wide variety put in front of us, definitely excellent value and what ever wasn’t eaten was given to us to take home. Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

Seen in the Derbyshire Life magazine, my in-law requested we visited this restaurant on a recent stay. We were not disappointed. The menu was varied and included some daily specials and the staff were particularly friendly and helpful. The meals were all lovely and the sandwich was so big we had to get a "doggie bag" to do it justice. Fantastic views from the gardens and overall a lovely place to go.

We enjoyed our evening meal, it was nicely cooked and presented. Service was good and at the right speed, not too quick, not too slow. Selection of wine was not huge but varied.

And fantastic service staff was lovely and the Laura was brilliant, not really much more to say other than we will be back to the lovely place

Stayed here this weekend as part of celebrating my partners birthday. Gave them plenty of notice that one us is vegan as when checking the menu online there only seemed to be two vegan options, both mains, no starters or desserts. When we got there there was either a Summer veg soup or tofu salad for the starter, I chose the very tasty crunchy salad with tofu cooked two different ways. I had one of the vegan mains off the menu which was very nice and then for dessert they said I could either have fruit salad or they could make a tarte tatin with my choice of about 6 different fruits - I chose a plum tarte tatin and it was absolutely delicious. They also provided vegan butter with the bread we were given prior to our starters. For breakfast there was vegan sausages with hash browns, beans, mushrooms and tomatoes, toast with vegan butter and a choice of soy or almond milk with my coffee. I can’t remember the name of the waiter, I think he was Italian but he checked what was vegan and what wasn’t for me and was keen to know what I thought of the food. Was really nice to stay somewhere where they had prepared some thoughtful tasty dishes. My omni partner really enjoyed his food too. Our room was spacious and clean. It was a very warm room but there was an air conditioning unit provided.

Spent the Easter break at this hotel. Building interesting with character features. Had a downstairs twin room, very clean but window was insicure and had to remain closed not so good in the present heat wave. The toilet needed attention as it had a poor flush and would not fill up quickly and this resulted in having to pour water into it. When receptionist was told she said nothing she could do so no point looking at it, it would have to wait for maintenace to sort after Easter! Good shower,could do with better curtain.Food and service in the evening restaurant good. Affordable. Breakfast needs improvements as service for cooked eggs other than precooked scramble took far too long. Food was of good quality but cold due to insufficient serving container which didn't keep food hot. Hotel in a good position and had lovely views.

After passing this place every other week for 30 years, we finally booked it for a birthday meal.

Drive past on a regular basis, always saying we are going to try the food here. Received a warm welcome from all the staff on duty. Bar/seating area was in excellent order..plenty of places to sit. Food was lovely, service was good. Will return.

We visited as a large group from work; just under 40 of us and we were seated in a lovely room separate from other groups which was nice. All the food was pre-ordered and came out together and it was all cooked perfectly and was delicious. The after eight cheesecake was yummy! There was a disco afterwards but was apparently quite crowded although some of the group did have a dance. Lovely building outside and in and plenty of areas for sitting after the meal. There were a couple of bars open so the wait for drinks was minimal and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Generally a good place for a Christmas do!

Busy on Sunday, with several small tables with couples or individual families as well as another large group, so quite hectic. Despite that the staff coped fairly well, though there was a few minutes between the arrival of the main 'plated meat' dish before it's accompanying vegetables came, meaning that the meat was quite cool before getting part way through the plate. Starter was the highlight - Thai fishcake with a chilli sauce and lovely pickled vegetables; the Christmas pudding was good, though not comparable with home made...

a fantastic diamond wedding anniversary party organised by our daughter Alison at santoshihgamfarm. our thanks to santo and his team for making the event special. we and several of our guests stayed overnight and all raved about how special it was. Santo himself oversees the preparations to ensure everything is done to perfection. Thankyou santo , my wife and I will see you for our sevtieth anniversary lol .

I enjoyed the food but felt that it could have been tastier with the right sauces and herbs. The leek and potato soup was mild but tasty. I found the steak and stilton pie delicious. The chocolate cheesecake was good but I would have liked a different, less sweet, sauce. Service was good.

As a fairly large group we had pre-ordered and everything was ready for us. The food was very good and the vegetables were served ‘silver service style’ with plenty of variety. All in all a fine dining experience.

We dined here last night with friends but when I ordered my steak and asked for it to be cooked blue I was told that the chef won't cook a blue steak. When I asked why he wouldn't, the answer was that it's because of "health and safety". What a load of rubbish, especially when the menu includes beef tartare - raw beef! I repeated that I would like it blue and I was prepared to sign a disclaimer - which I did. However, I think the comment "won't cook a blue steak" really meant "can't cook a blue steak", as my steak was, at best, rare - verging on medium rare. Yet my friend's duck was almost still quacking and was so raw that she had to ask for it to be put back on the griddle.

We visited friends in the area and they suggested we eat here as they use the restaurant regularly.

Il primo impatto è... beh, affascinante: la parte lounge e pub è realmente intrigante. Anche le camere, al primo impatto sono, come dire? emozionanti: arredamento vecchio stile, pietra e moquette... Poi c'è l'impatto della praticità: lavandini minuscoli con rubinetti separati per acqua calda (rovente) e fredda, moquette a pelo lungo che da tener pulita non è facilissima, prezzi del ristorante un po' eccessivi a mio avviso.

We got married here 8 years ago and we like to return with our children for a bite to eat. The place is just wonderful, staff are so friendly and obliging, food is good, drinks are a bit pricey but the luxury of the place makes it worth it.

Went on fathers day five of us it was a lovely meal pleasant staff. Decor is lovely .Will definately return .

Spent weekend here and as there is little choice locally we ended up eating here as well and we were v pleasantly surprised. Interesting and varied menu with lots of specials, we found the dining room a liitle dark and old fashioned but the food was mostly superb. Over the 2 nights we ate ham hock terrine (excellent), fois gras, mixed grill, hake, fish and chips, fish cakes - huge portions and v good quality except the fishcake which needed more fish. The bar was a little disappointing with no local/hand pulled beers but good wines.

We have just attended a wedding here and everything was well organised by friendly and helpful staff... the food was good and interesting and the children were given appropriate food and portions. Well done Santo’s....

Family of 11 visited for Sunday lunch where we all generally had a 3 course meal all starters went down well however some of our group thought the main course meat(beef/lamb)was rare but others thought it was cooked just right some thought the veg was a little hard some thought it was just right so have had to give a mixed review afters were ok and the service was very good plus very good setting to sit outside and relax/chat over a drink.The 3 course lunch was around £17/£18 personally would visit again as the meal was good value.

Having been here before we decided to come back to celebrate my 65th birthday with family.

The restuarant operates Monday to Saturday (not Sunday). The food was varied, well-cooked and efficiently delivered. It seemed very reasonably priced (hake with crayfish and asparagus is recommended as is the cobbler as a sweet. Good on cheeses).

My daughter and new son in law held their wedding at Santos Higham Farm on the 21st April 2018. The lovely day we had was greatly assisted by the very excellent staff, who were helpful and supportive from start to finish. The food on the day was excellent and we couldn't have asked for anything more to make the day such a successful event for the married couple and their guests.

Have visited here on two occasions and must say it has been fine on both occasions but nothing really special. The first visit was for an afternoon tea and whilst the service was good and atmosphere was relaxed, the food was a little disappointing. The sandwiches had come straight out the fridge so we're not very enjoyable and the salmon in some was very thick cut and the beef and ham were not of a very good quality. I asked for a dairy free option as I am a lactose intolerant; when I booked I advised there was only one dietary requirementbut yet when it was served they had given us both dairy free options. The choice was a little unimaginative and I fear most of the cakes were bought in. The second time we ate we had bar food and on that occasion the bread was again refrigerated and the chips had been forgotten and so came out rather undercooked when they arrived. We will return as the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed but we won't expect anything special.

Two years ago we visited the Hotel for our 48th Wedding anniversary, so this year i arranged a surprise 70th birthday party for my wife. This include both of our sons, daughter-in-laws and two grandchildren. We had a wonderful time, the accommodation and food were outstanding. All my family were delighted with the Hotel. All of the Staff were kind, helpful and totally dedicated, an absolute credit to themselves.

I have had two meals at Santo's before and they have been good but this was the first time I'd had afternoon tea. First the good points: the staff were lovely, helpful and efficient, the crockery and cutlery was clean, the table nicely set out, and the tea and coffee replenished. Now the disappointing - the room where the tea was served was a little room off the Sports Bar - no ambience, especially for an afternoon tea. The sandwiches were ok, but not the best I've ever had. The cake selection was rather boring, but the worst thing was the scones. They were hard, overcooked and not at all tasty. A lovely interesting place like Higham Farm should be able to do better.

Our first visit to Santos it’s a beautiful hotel and restaurant, Staff were brilliant and very helpful, the afternoon tea was lovely with plenty of choices it was all fresh and the cheese scones very tasty. We will be back to try their other menus.

Had afternoon tea using a voucher from Travelzoo. Overall very happy with the experience, and found it excellent value. Service was excellent and food was very good. Sandwiches were fresh, scones were good, cakes were good but failed to reach my personal level for an excellent rating. An improved Victoria sponge would have boosted my rating. Will definitely go back, possibly to try their Sunday Roast beef.

We went to the Santo's Higham Farm Hotel, on a Travelzoo special promotion for afternoon tea for two. i am sorry to report that this was nothing special. The staff were adequate, but the presentation of the food was poor and the area where it was served was dismal and uninviting..The food was, again, adequate. We did not stay at the hotel so cannot comment about the rooms, etc.

We we stayed here with family who recommended it. I was shocked to find a pair of dirty knickers under the pillow and a packet of crisps and half drunk bottle of orange on the table. The room had obviously not been cleaned. We where offered an upgrade but that didn't appear either. The receptionist had to keep speaking to a mythical duty manager who never appeared. If not with family I would of left. I won't be going back.

We visit here frequently....many times purely for a night out for drinks and food. It's worth the 30 minute drive.

Las comidas estaban bien presentada y deliciosa. Personal atento sin ser entrometido. Cuando la cuenta fue gratamente sorprendido. No puedo recomendar este restaurante lo suficiente. Sin duda volveremos.

had afternoon tea, first off the place is set a wonderful part of the country, amazing surroundings. greeted by very friendly and helpful staff. lots of little rooms well furnished and decorated n a way to compliment such a beautiful building. we have had many afternoon/cream teas, this one is one the best. all served by delightful staff

The views from this hotel are amazing. Our room was big and spacious hot tub bathtub was great also the price was decent for the size room... it is a little dated and could do with a little male over but we enjoyed our stay and id stay again.

Booked this from Booking.com for a night away with my partner. Upon arrival we were greeted with a very friendly welcome by the receptionist and then given the key to our room. We were in the 'Mandela Suite', I had booked a 'superior double room', and whilst the room was large in size the decor was strange and a little dated. The bathroom was spacious but there was no hot water, it was only warm. Breakfast was ok but not spectacular

Just had a fabulous stay at the hotel .Accomodation superb, food superb,staff very helpful 5 stars all round thankyou.

great service.we all agreed the food was cooked well but had no flavour. it wasn't even seasoned; it's rare to see a room full of people pouring salt on their food in the 21st century.

We all had fillet steak. It was very expensive and each steak was tiny 4oz when it should be 8oz so disappointed. The very long wait to get served was more disappointing as we had booked for 6pm but order taken at 7.15pm.So did not go back.

We stayed for one night in order to meet up with some friends from Kent. (We live in N Yorks) We ate in the restaurant and found the food to be excellent. The service from all the staff from start to finish of our stay were wonderful, efficient and great to deal with.

The most amazing time had by all! Santo and his staff are second to non.My sisters wedding was made so special by all. The attention to detail the kindness , friendless and care , the views , the rooms , and well EVERYTHING was Spot on. Thank you For the most amazing few days here at your establishment. I would recommend this venue for Your wedding without a doubt or even for an evening out or any other occasion. And the breakfast is yummy . Everything ....Just perfect !!! ❤

We went there as a couple to eat and did not stay in the hotel.The food is is of a very high standard and from start to finish we were both impressed. We had great service,the staff were attentive and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed an interesting menu. Pleasantly the deserts were as good as the mains which is becoming increasingly rare there days. This is not pub food it is much more than that.A great building where you can stay for drinks or coffee afterwards in a comfortable lounge which is nice when you don't want to rush off after a meal.Fortunately we live 1 mile from this venue and have only just discovered it. It will be our new local. Already we have been back just 10 days later. Review to follow.You definitely need to try this place

Just a typical hotel in need of some work. Rooms a bit hot and the bed quality is poor. Great breakfast and very friendly staff. The restaurant ain't bad to be fair. An amazing view over the valley from the car park. Just a little further if rom the motorway than what we were hoping for

We called in for Sunday lunch and were pleasantly surprised at the quality and price of the meal. Never have we seen such huge Yorkshire puddings!With two young children in tow, I think that we may have preferred to dispense with the white linen tablecloths and delicate, long-stemmed wine glasses and perhaps next time we will ask if we could eat in the bar.The staff were excellent and the meal was much cheaper than other local gastro-pubs in the area. I would have given it five stars if someone had cleaned up the car park.

I live 40 miles away from this place however every time I come back to visit family I always beg them to come here. Can't comment on busy times as we usually come at lunchtime and it's lovely and quiet. I prefer it that way! The staff are very attentive and friendly. I don't come too often so when we do come the menu has usually changed again so I try to choose something different every time. In December I had steak, at first when I looked at the price I thought wow, that's a little high, but then remembered that with steak you get what you pay for! It was £25. It was the best steak I've ever tasted, cooked to perfection (blue) and the chips were gorgeous! Just for comparison I had a steak a few days later at a pub chain, it was £10 but was basically all fat and gristle. I would pay the higher price tag and get a beautiful steak which was all meat and didn't pull my teeth out than the cheaper version! We had the bread sharer for starter and a sponge pudding with toffee sauce for pudding, every course was perfect. People who complain about the price of food here must mainly go for pub grub which is mass produced, frozen then reheated. I also like going to those sort of places but if you are wanting something more upmarket this is the place without being unaffordable. I've said before that the chef here is amazing.Note to the owners: please please bring back the tonka bean pudding, that was the best pudding I have ever had!!

Family meal out. We all had steak and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Cooked to perfection and staff were attentive despite being very busy with a wedding and private party on site too. Highly recommended!

We've been here for our two previous Christmas party's and was looking forward to a third. When it was booked we was told we'd be seated on the dance floor and served first so they can vacate the dance floor and we'd have reserved seating in the covered courtyard area-lovely.Upon arriving we were told "there's the cloakroom" and just pointed to a cupboard, no offering to take coats or take us to the "cloakroom" as in previous years. We waited to be seated only to find other guests already eating. To say we were on the dance floor our party (22) were very cramped up. Starters soon arrived and no sooner on finishing them mains start to arrive and the chaos starts! One colleague asked just for some cauliflower and carrots only to be told by the server THREE times that the "carrots" were sweet potatoes, which clearly weren't. Next my manager had to wait until everyone had been served there portions before he even got his meat, yet everyone had theirs first. Finally start eating the very tough beef, and even tougher vegetables to find the most over powering flavour of cinnamon in the red cabbage, which truly ruined the whole taste of the meal. (Which was spat out in a napkin) the waiter was helpful in finding out what it was as all I was quite annoyed, and then was asked if there's something else I'd like but everyone else had finished their meal and plates were cleared away. Yay time for dessert-biggest faff ever and one waitress turn to my colleague and quite rudely said "if you tell me what you've ordered it'd be easier" yet they still brought out the wrong one again.Now they want us to move into the courtyard, I have never felt so cold, and upon saying that was told to sit at a table and they'll put the heater on, surely the heaters should have been put on prior to us going in to warm it up? Won't be returning for a fourth year unfortunately.

We celebrated our silver wedding anniversary on the 23rd November with mum and dad. We decided to dine there because that is where we spent our wedding night. The service was excellent as was the meal. Can definitely recommend the seafood sharer starter. My belly of lamb wad cooked to perfection as wad my husbands blade of beef. The desserts were also served with elegance. Everything was perfect.

Very enjoyable afternoon in hotel, meal of very good standard and a good price staff very good and attentive excellent service.

We had an enjoyable stay. Breakfast was ample - plenty of choice. We did have a wedding party eating at the same time so we did find we were left and felt we were interrupting asking for things. Room was clean and had everything we needed. It wasn't noisy even though there was a wedding reception during our stay.Lovely big bath, Staff were welcoming and helpful, Would stay again. Although small we did have trouble flushing the toilet and when asked were told they were Italian and you need to double flush - a little note somewhere may help as even this has a knack to it and we spent ages trying to flush before asking.

We recently visited this restaurant as received a voucher from friends. We had ever been there as had been told it was expensive, however we found it very reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we were delighted with the food, it was all incredibly tasty. The staff treat you well and look after you while you are there and we will definitely be returning time and time again!

Tasty bread is provided whilst you wait for your food (as is inc.).They cook their steaks here to perfection - this time I had the rib-eye.

Da wir im Hotel untergebracht waren, nutzen wir das angeschlossene Restaurant zum Abendessen. Die Bedienung war freundlich und die Wartezeit war kurz. Das Steak war auf den gewünschten Punkt gegart. Die Portionen sind dank grosszügiger Beilagen sehr sättigend.

Having driven from Galway in Ireland all the way to Higham I can assure you it better be good. My wife and I spent a break consisting of 9 days at Santos Higham Farm in June and indeed I was prompted to write a complimentary review previously. We have just spent another 6 days at the hotel as we unfortunately had to attend a funeral. Once I contacted the staff at very short notice looking for a booking I was facilitated in every way possible. As was the case on our previous stay we were greeted by the proprietor Santo and his very courteous staff who had arranged everything for us regards accommodation which as eluded to in the title was excellent. We happened to dine most evenings in the restaurant, without exaggeration the food and service would not be found in a much higher rated hotel....again truly excellent. We had to leave very early on the morning of our return (today) to make our ferry back to Ireland so I take this opportunity to thank Santo, Roma, Dawn, Kerry, Vanessa, Tom and all the other staff members who contributed to our comfort whilst there. Sometimes things are not the same when you revisit a place for the second time but I can honestly say it was better in some respects made all the more nice by the greeting and welcome....Consistently excellent sums it up for us. We will definately stay here again and offer this as an honest recommendation to any reader looking for such a venue for a break in beautiful Derbyshire

On our way to Mansfield we were hungry and looking for somewhere to eat and came across this hotel. I had gammon and my girlfriend had the fish and chips. Both meals were excellent as was the service. Would certainly return and stop the night next time.the view from the car park is stunnig

Stayed last year for our wedding anniversary and bk again same fantastic service and food. Nothing too much trouble. Nice to see the friendly helpful staff again.

Loved santos hotel and restaurant. From the time of arrival to the time we left everything was excellent. Our room was fab, everything in it that you needed. The bed was comfortable and cosy (did'nt want to get up). Everything was so clean. The bar area, sports bar, was nice, prices were fine. The decor throughout was lovely. Breakfast was good, buffet style. Staff were all very polite. We shall be visiting again. Thankyou for making our stay enjoyable

After a dreadful first night (out of 4) attempting to find something decent to eat, we tried the Santos Higham Farm Hotel, Good starters, although why scallops had bacon with it is beyond me. Fish was excellent - hake. Fresh and well cooked. Didn't stay for puddings.

I visit here often on business and the service is good. Occasionally dine here with family. Service and food good. Good attention to detail.

We went on a Friday evening with our 2 daughters (8 and 11).There was plenty of parking and there is an amazing view and an area for you to stand and enjoy it with a drink.The building is characterful with old stone and wooden beams. A singer was performing as we arrived (almost in the corridor!!) I assume to be enjoyed by as many as people as possible.We were seated in the bar where our order was taken and then shown to our seat in restaurant. The restaurant was formally set with wine glasses and white table clothes and it had a nice atmosphere.Fellow vegetations be aware that there is only 1 option on the starters and 1 on the main, cheese soufflé for stater and cous cous with goats cheese for the main, both were nice but I appreciate choices and 2 courses with cheese is a little thoughtless. The kids menu had sausages and mash, tomato pasta, cheese pasta and burger. The menu for meat and fish eaters was varied. Overall we had a nice evening, the staff are attentive and the surroundings are nice but we'll only go back when the vege options have changed!

We went here to our friends' Wedding Reception and had a great time.The setting is lovely and the building as great character(loved the well in reception).Food was excellent, both Lunch and evening buffet.Good selection of Beers and Malt whiskies in the bar.The staff where efficient and friendly , overall a great day.
