Amazing Indian restaurant in the centre of Leicester. Had dinner one night and lunch another day. Food is fantastic, and the set lunch menu is great value. Menu is split into Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian. I enjoyed the chicken and beef dishes and my friends had the paneer. All dishes were delicious and filling. Got extra popadoms and dips for a small extra price. Had the same woman serve us both visits, she was pleasant, polite, patient and helpful. Would highly recommend, will definitely visit again if I find myself back in Leicester.

The food was really good. We really loved the service by provided them. Initially we didn’t know what to order. But then the employees were so kind and patient enough; they let us know what their best sellers were and we ordered them. They turned out to so good. I would recommend the place to be an ideal destination for south indian dinner.

Good food and great customer service. Mostly the biriyani is outstanding. And their King prawn masala is must try dish.

Nice Indian restaurant on Granby Street, Leicester, with prices for authentic Indian food very reasonable. Near the railway station and opposite the Barley Mow. Staff very helpful & polite.

Solid food very good. Can’t complain

The food was wonderful. The most authentic Indian food that you can get in UK, especially South Indian cuisine. Shamila and the others were really helpful and we enjoyed their hospitality. Must visit place and we would visit again soon.

Amazing spot for dinner with family and friends. Spice level was perfect and nice environment to be in. Shamila was extremely helpful and friendly and was amazing with her job. She was very efficient and also very approachable.

Had a really enjoyable meal here yesterday evening. Portion size is huge, look at that *medium* chili paneer. Food was tasty and interesting, not the usual Indian restaurant fare. Busy from 6pm on a Saturday evening

We discovered this restaurant totally by chance on a visit back to Leicester. After living in Leicester for 30+ years then moving away I brought my family to show them the city, obviously so much had changed in the 15 years I had been away. Wanting something to eat and deciding on Indian food we Googled restaurants and not knowing any of them we went to a couple first which didn't have room for our party and I'm so glad they didn't or else we would never have got to experience Santhi Restaurant, going down the stairs we were met with a bustling restaurant that already had very large parties dining there. They found room for us and despite how extremely busy the staff already were we were welcomed and served with the same attention you would expect anywhere. All of our party said the food was to a high standard. We had two vegetarians who said the food was excellent and a varied choice for them. Service throughout the meal was just the right balance of attentiveness and watchful from a distance. What a lovely place, we were so lucky to have found it and on our upcoming visit we will definitely be returning. We can all honestly recommend Santhi Restaurant to everyone.

I went to collect for Uber Eats Delivery today. As soon as I got there the order was ready. The restaurant is centrally located.

Utterly disappointed with food. I was there for take away. Butter Naan was dry and too hard with almost no butter. The biriyani had rice which of low standard. Please use good quality basamati rice . You people charge 10 pounds + for biriyani which is really non matching. This is not biriyani but fried rice. Even Jeera rice was bit on dry side. Finally Paneer Butter Masala was more diluted . Guys I have been many more stores in Leicester and literally you are no way near them. You lost a customer from today.😶

Lovely spicy South Indian food, good service and a friendly atmosphere

I am totally disappointed 😔. Quantity was very less . We ordered biryani (which had only 5 small cube pieces) and butter Chicken small cube size 5 pieces only . quantity was super low.taste was not good Butter Chicken was tasteless. Biryani was ok but less quantity. I would not recommend this restaurant 😕.Apart from this staff was supportive but I won't recommend this restaurant. It cost 22 pound of two people wl.we we're still hungry after eating biryani and butter Chicken .

Went for dinner, ordered - Lamb chops which was too dry - Devil Paneer - Paneer was over fryed and chewy - Ghee roast - served with cold sambar ?? - Veg Noodles - Good. A little bit of attention is definitely required while making the food, have been here before and the food quality is not the same every time.

Great place for a late Sunday evening dinner. Delicious vegetarian curry and dosa. Perfect naan breads and rice. Highly recommended if you're in Leicester City centre.

Tried Santhi for the first time and it's excellent. The Lamb Ceylon was really tasty, service was great, and I'd highly recommend this restaurant.

Worst experience...bad customer service..never recommend to anyone

Ordered a meal over the phone and went to pick up. Got the lamb Ceylon and chicken lollipop. Flavour of the curry is nice but the portion size isn’t great coz there is hardly any pieces of lamb. Chicken lollipop is awful. Dry, no flavour and they are just wings of the chicken scraped back which I’m used to have chicken legs. Won’t be coming back because I paid £14 for these two dishes which in my opinion is definitely not worth it. Lady was pleasant though. Also, no access for my pushchair, so my wife had to wait at the top of the stairs.

The worst restaurant in leicester that I’ve ever tried. The customer service was really bad. Bad food as well.

Starters were terrible! Chicken 65 was dry. Lamb chops were chewy and just not flavoured at all. Biriyani lacked flavour and the lamb in this was very dry. Other main course dishes tasted decent enough but the portions were very small. Service was very slow but friendly. The management are lovely and apologised however this place really needs an overhaul to survive in this competitive market. There are plenty of better restaurants to choose from.

Took 2.5 hours to get a starter and main out. Service was awful. Had to ask for drinks 3 times before getting one 40 minutes later. Food was dry, naan was burnt. Portions were tiny. When we complained the staff argued with us and would not listen. Will never go back again.

Best cooked Indian food in the city. Incredible quality!

We were warmly greeted by staff member. He was gentle and polite and explained clearly what was included in the meal. Set dosai meal costs only £3.95 and a delicious mutton biryani costs £5.95. The portion was enough for two. One of the better places where we had a proper cup of masala tea. Enough spices and not sweet.

We were visiting Leicester for the day so decided to pop into this excellent Indian Restaurant. We were impressed by the friendliness of the staff as well as the extensive menu. You can get a good Curry as well as a cracking Dosa. Some of the dishes also have a Chinese connection. We went for the Chilli eggs, Pepper Chicken and Mysore Dosa. All dishes were excellent. There's a selection of alcoholic beverages to. We'd definitely recommend this Restaurant.

Soulless on the day we went. Underground. Fair prices. Rushed service as he wanted to close. Incessant ringing of their land line telephone. Flavours are nothing to write home about.

These guys need more staff. 1 member of staff on to serve the whole restaurant… ridiculous. Waited ages for absolutely everything. Took over 25 minutes to get even get our food and drink ordered.

Great service, food tastes amazing each time we eat here. Could do with redecoration to make it authentic but that doesn't stop us eating here everytime we're in Leicester

Went there on Friday evening but it wasn't busy. The place is in basement so it's easy to miss the restaurant. They have lot of tables but it doesn't seem big from the outside. I ordered a masala dosa without ghee and it was amazing and it cost me only 5.50 pounds. I can suggest dosa there. There were also lot of curries and rice dishes but I was craving only for dosa.

Excellent food and service.Especially Indian

The staff were lovely. The decor is drab The paneer tasted off, the chappati's were re-heats and the lamb chops were like rubber. The King prawns were delicious but overall it was an extremely disappointing experience

The food was not seasoned very disappointing as my previous collection order was ok Food portions were smaller for a higher price quantity was low and placed in white cardboard burger boxes?? Chilli panneer was dry No taste bland will not be spending my money here again sauce had spilles in the white carrier the plastic box slightly flattened why paneer dried up. Very disappointed Horrible placing food in burger boxes so tacky for what I had paid you are not a chicken and chip shop! Overpriced 1 table of customers and yet could not manage to package my 3 items carefully. They close the kitchen an hour before closing time?

Discussed discussing food do not order curry’s are pure waster used to order from here but absolutely disappointed bland tasteless honestly and very clever staff who make a fool out of you and claim to be Manegers honestly so oily and watery discussing for the price

Food was pretty amazing. Service was a little slow. To be fair there were a lot of us, 25. We had pre booked. Decor was a bit tired. The food made up for it.

Updated for November 2015 visit - Returned with friends and not disappointed. Superb food all round. Service improved this time and now very good. Place was busy on a Thursday evening. Price very reasonable too! Very much recommended. --- First time here and will definitely go back. Excellent food at an excellent price. Generous portions, particularly of the starters. It's indian food, but with a bit of a Chinese twist in places. Food superb. Service started a little rushed but improved. Overall very good indeed. Recommended

Probably the best Indian Restaurant in Leicester City centre. The food tastes authentic, the portions are a good size and the prices are reasonable. The staff are very helpful and the meals are well presented. Good vegetarian options available.

Party of 4, this only affected 2 of us but ruined the whole evening. Waiting staff do not seem very aware of the dishes they are serving. the dish i had ordered was called out by waiter so i took it but it was wrong and contained dairy which i have an allergy to. The dish my husband was given was mine, i swapped my meal with his but his was still not the madras he ordered. When we asked the staff to check the meals we'd been given, i was told that the dish i swapped with my husband (now the correct dish and dairy free) was something else and contained dairy. Neither of us finished the meals, me because worried about allergic reaction and my husband because it was wrong. A lady who came out from kitchen was not helpful and told me i shouldn't order things containing yoghurt if i have an allergy, i hadn't ordered it. but the waiter had said the dish i ordered so i took it, not knowing it was something else. One of the staff looked awkward when our request for 50% off the bill was denied by the lady, he did come back with a bottle of wine on the house though. We will not be returning to this restaurant and waiting staff need to be well informed of each dish before they serve to the table to avoid dangerous mistakes in giving food with an allergen to somebody with a severe allergy.

The chicken was either reused or had be thawed and re frozen. It had a very strange aftertaste. I am quite expecting to be ill in the morning.

Tasty South Indian food with lovely service

The food was good, although they really need to pop the heating on before customers arrive as it was very cold to sit. Otherwise good service and food, would return for a good meal, basic but tasty.

6 of us lawyers met for reunion meal which was so disappointing. Table booked for 8pm but slow service led to main courses arriving near 10pm. Some of food cold. Whilst starters were ok, main meals were of poor quality. A larger party took up half of premises which might have contributed to delays etc. Service was awful. The toilets were filthy which is inexcusable. Walls and sinks etc need a deep clean.

This was my first time having a biriyani from a restaurant in UK. Taste wise, I would say that it was good, it's more of a north Indian type of biriyani but not spicy. Price wise I think Shanti is really affordable when compared to other restaurants around Leicester.

A friend and I visited this restaurant for lunch today. I ordered chicken tikka for starter and it was a big portion and delicious. Decided to try the dosa for the main and it too was delicious. Fresh, tasty food, good value for money. The service was also very good.

We was in Leicester for an overnight stay and wanted to have Indian food, after looking at several places and reading the reviews we chose here. Myself and my Wife visited. The restaurant... Be aware that there are stairs down to the entrance, the decor inside could be a little more authentic instead of plain walls and it's a bit cramped when full. The service... .an't fault it, quick and with a smile from all the staff. The food... We had poppadoms and pickle tray to start, which were fresh. For mains we had Chicken Tikka Biriyani which included a boiled egg it had a kick of spice, Chicken Tikka Masala, Pilau Rice and we shared a Plain Nan. Everything was fresh, we both agreed that we've not had Indian food that good in years. It was hot, quick to arrive at our table. The curry was perfectly spiced and plenty of it. The next time we're in Leicester we'll definitely be eating here again, it's a shame we can't delivery to South Derbyshire. The only downside to our visit were the loud, obnoxious, dunk Man City fans (men and women) telling the whole restaurant about how good Mahrez is !! Then giving the staff abuse because the food didn't taste how they wanted it to ! I would give a 5 star review if the decor was better instead of the plain walls.

Very nice place and experience. The waiter helped us decide on the food, as he had good knowledge of the menu. He was also very attentive and quick with delivering the appetizers, starters & mains. Prices were on par with what we were expecting. Overall very good experience and highly recommended!

Had the mutton kottu, it was just like the one I have back home in Sri Lanka, very authentic. Sreedahran was our waiter who was very nice and always had a smile on his face. Would definitely recommend.

Best value Indian I've had in a long time. Santhi is a South Indian restaurant not too far from the train station. The entrance isn't the most welcoming, but from there on everything is fantastic We had a starter each, my wife had a dosa and I had a curry with rice and chapati. We had 2 beers and a Lassi the total cost was less than £40 Incredible value great food and attentive staff. Highly recommended

The best chicken balti I've had in years, fantastically tasty traditional Indian soup to begin, crispy and superbly cooked onion bhajis for starter, excellent cumin flavoured rice and the best garlic & coriander naan I've ever had. Enjoyed another great meal at the Santhi Restaurant. The aubergine curry is great and the tarka dhal too. Butter chicken curry very good and not to spicy hot.

As an Indian I love this hotel which gives real indian food taste, specifically I have been served by Mr. Sam his gesture and service capability is awesome. To have an Indian food at Leicester everyone should try this hotel.

Good generous portions, and probably the best rice I ever had with Indian food. Very good service. Sam served me. He was extremely attentive and also managed to explain to me how they make the rice taste that well. Highly recommended!

Came alone on a quiet night. Ordered prawn pakora starter. Had Lamb Madras main. Food was excellent. Service was excellent and friendly. Facilities were clean. Been here several times and always top notch.

Really yummy food, we had chilli paneer and the fried aubergine. We went quite late and we got served quickly and the wait staff were great too. Didn't rush us out even though they had closed. Will definitely come back!

Absolutely loved the dishes, it’s the perfect example of authentic South Indian food. We had amazing service, everything arrived straight away, fresh and warm. The flavours are perfect and we were offered a choice of spice level so all dishes can be enjoyed no matter how much spice you are able to take. Also the vibe of the restaurant was very calming and easy to relax in, although the lighting could be a little brighter, this is not a big issue though. Overall my visit was perfect, will be visiting again, and highly recommend more people to visit.

Tl;dr: Service was extremely slow. Food was spicier than expected and average. Wouldn't recommend We had a pre-booked for 15, we we're there for 3 hours... largely waiting for food to arrive and on the waiter. When we tried to order the waiter went person to person for mains, the came back to the start for rice and then back again for naan. When people said I don't want nice just a naan we got "I'm not taking bread orders at the moment only rice". Some people had to ask over 4 times for a drink. The food was generally very spicy and or salty. I had the ghee rice, which was nice, with the aubergines curry - which was OK. But people who ordered buttered chicken or the tika masala weren't very happy with the spice or salt levels. I'm pretty sure 2 people sat down behind us and got fed up with the wait to be served and left. Splitting the bill was very painful to and they didn't seem happy with us wanting to do that. All in all a poor experience, I will not be returning

Not great with a large group. Very very slow and disjointed service. Food was very salty and over spiced on the milder dishes.

This is one of my favs in Leicester. Very tasty, flavourful and delicious food they have. I recommend their chicken lollipops, lamb biryanis and sweet lassi💯. Oh and their chicken butter too is immaculate! Ambience is calm and great customer service offered. Definitely check this out.
