Great food and service. The chicken Ceylon was excellent. Helpful waiter who explained the differences in the regional cuisine of India. Good value.

(Edited my original review) WAS... "The best chilli paneer in Leicester... Large portions, spicy and very tasty. Great vegetarian options too!" Back in the day, but not any more. Lacking any flavour other than spicy... 3 stars only.

Decent little curry house for away fans

Had lunch with fish curry, aubergine dish and a yellow curry of orka, with rice and parota. The dishes had authentic taste and we enjoyed it. We don't stay here, so may not visit every day, hopefully some day sooner than later.

The pilau rice tasted of weird cheese and had bits of other meals in it, not great when everything was requested for vegans. They must use the same pan for everything so it picks up flavours of previously cooked meals. Everything else was floating in oil, which we had to pour off to find the curry and samba. The cheese smell put me off wanting to eat anything, so it was a waste of money. Sad and disappointed.

We ordered a feast for our family but the food was disgusting. The pilau rice tasted of strange cheese and all the mains were covered in a couple of inches of oil which leaked over everything in the delivery bag ruining everything else. We won't be ordering from here again as it ruined our family time as it left us feeling grumpy and disappointed. Total waste of money

Worst food, me and my husband easts your food it's make something health issues from last night. I can't speak what you serving the customer we are pay but you are not giving your best food. very very worst

Out of date food. The lamb somosa had an extremely stale taste to it. When confronting the waitress we asked to see the date of the somosa pack ( obviously frozen ). The waitress refused and even lied and said the last table had it. Which was clearly a lie because after so many hours of them leaving the plates had not been cleared. This same waitress was stood the entire time in kitchen talking instead of doing her job ( cleaning tables). We also ordered the butter chicken which once again had zero taste and the chicken (frozen) had a bad taste therefore we did not want to even touch it. Overall the food and service is appalling. They also don’t even have any wi-fi or service which is so strange. Council really needs to inspect this place

We have eaten at Santhi a couple of times and it was amazing but unfortunately the home delivery failed to meet expectations. The breads were inedible and the paneer tasted tough and old. Please refund the price of these dishes.

You pay for large portion and they give u in a large box which is half empty equivalent to a small don't use this place and no management is here to speak to very poor managed restaurant

Chicken saag really nice but the chicken biryani had no sauce which we usually have back home, was offered a sauce later on when asked about it but was nearly all eaten. Very quiet. Very clean and tidy which is nice to see.

The lamb was very tough in my lamb madras the Poppadoms Were very oily. The onion Barges were very small. Can’t believe They charge for a pickle Tray normal Indian restaurant charge nothing for them.

Worst Indian of my life. Soup was So hot it destroyed my taste buds for what followed. Butter chicken was iceland diced chicken heated in a spicy sauce. All overpriced. Never again

Lovely Indian restaurant in town on Granby Street, approximately opposite the railway station. Its entrance is non-descript, and the actual restaurant is down a flight of stairs and surprisingly large, well decorated with a good ambience and comfy chairs. The service was nice, friendly and efficient. The food was surprisingly good, freshly made and not as expensive as some of its similar neighbouring restaurants. We had salted lassi, which was excellent, medu vada, which were crispy on the outside light and fluffy on the inside with a well made sambar and chutney, masala king prawns were flavorful and not overbearing spicy and chicken biryani. Portions were generous. Its well worth a visit and I believe it gives its more famous neighbours a run for their money

Food is not tasty, we tried chicken 65, it’s very dry and tastes like kebab with no salt.Also tried pepper chicken it was ok. Biryani is more like some mint rice. Butter naan was ok . Butter chicken is bad, no gravy at all tastes like some watery gravy

Nice Indian restaurant on Granby Street, Leicester, with prices for authentic Indian food very reasonable. Near the railway station and opposite the Barley Mow. Staff very helpful & polite.

Went down there for an easy dinner after a long day and we really enjoyed the quiet time. The food was delicious and portion sizes more than enough. We ordered pepper chicken which was so yummy that my parter decided to make it the next day. I had biryani which was one of the most flavourful one I had in a while. Service was a bit slow despite it being very quiet, however food was fresh.

I just had chicken biryani and it was really good ...in the leicester so rarely I found this kind of taste.. thank you 😊

Everything is great,food is superb,but you do lose my custom from time to time as you open after 12at times.i go on lunch at 12 and you were closed.

The food was really good. We really loved the service by provided them. Initially we didn’t know what to order. But then the employees were so kind and patient enough; they let us know what their best sellers were and we ordered them. They turned out to so good. I would recommend the place to be an ideal destination for south indian dinner.

Terrible. Just had this delivered to my hotel. It was delivered on time and delivery person good. Food however really low quality- bhaji bitter, tasted of burnt garlic. Curry swimming in grease, literally half a cm of oil on the top that I poured off. Nan bread stone cold (I am 2 minutes away from the restaurant). Will not order from here again.

Had my birthday meal here it was lovely !! The staff are wonderful especially Aggie and the food was delicious we would definitely recommend 10/10 👍🏽

The food was wonderful. The most authentic Indian food that you can get in UK, especially South Indian cuisine. Shamila and the others were really helpful and we enjoyed their hospitality. Must visit place and we would visit again soon.

Amazing spot for dinner with family and friends. Spice level was perfect and nice environment to be in. Shamila was extremely helpful and friendly and was amazing with her job. She was very efficient and also very approachable.

Had a really enjoyable meal here yesterday evening. Portion size is huge, look at that *medium* chili paneer. Food was tasty and interesting, not the usual Indian restaurant fare. Busy from 6pm on a Saturday evening

We discovered this restaurant totally by chance on a visit back to Leicester. After living in Leicester for 30+ years then moving away I brought my family to show them the city, obviously so much had changed in the 15 years I had been away. Wanting something to eat and deciding on Indian food we Googled restaurants and not knowing any of them we went to a couple first which didn't have room for our party and I'm so glad they didn't or else we would never have got to experience Santhi Restaurant, going down the stairs we were met with a bustling restaurant that already had very large parties dining there. They found room for us and despite how extremely busy the staff already were we were welcomed and served with the same attention you would expect anywhere. All of our party said the food was to a high standard. We had two vegetarians who said the food was excellent and a varied choice for them. Service throughout the meal was just the right balance of attentiveness and watchful from a distance. What a lovely place, we were so lucky to have found it and on our upcoming visit we will definitely be returning. We can all honestly recommend Santhi Restaurant to everyone.

I went to collect for Uber Eats Delivery today. As soon as I got there the order was ready. The restaurant is centrally located.

Utterly disappointed with food. I was there for take away. Butter Naan was dry and too hard with almost no butter. The biriyani had rice which of low standard. Please use good quality basamati rice . You people charge 10 pounds + for biriyani which is really non matching. This is not biriyani but fried rice. Even Jeera rice was bit on dry side. Finally Paneer Butter Masala was more diluted . Guys I have been many more stores in Leicester and literally you are no way near them. You lost a customer from today.😶

Lovely spicy South Indian food, good service and a friendly atmosphere

I am totally disappointed 😔. Quantity was very less . We ordered biryani (which had only 5 small cube pieces) and butter Chicken small cube size 5 pieces only . quantity was super low.taste was not good Butter Chicken was tasteless. Biryani was ok but less quantity. I would not recommend this restaurant 😕.Apart from this staff was supportive but I won't recommend this restaurant. It cost 22 pound of two people wl.we we're still hungry after eating biryani and butter Chicken .

Went for dinner, ordered - Lamb chops which was too dry - Devil Paneer - Paneer was over fryed and chewy - Ghee roast - served with cold sambar ?? - Veg Noodles - Good. A little bit of attention is definitely required while making the food, have been here before and the food quality is not the same every time.

Tried Santhi for the first time and it's excellent. The Lamb Ceylon was really tasty, service was great, and I'd highly recommend this restaurant.

Worst experience...bad customer service..never recommend to anyone

Ordered a meal over the phone and went to pick up. Got the lamb Ceylon and chicken lollipop. Flavour of the curry is nice but the portion size isn’t great coz there is hardly any pieces of lamb. Chicken lollipop is awful. Dry, no flavour and they are just wings of the chicken scraped back which I’m used to have chicken legs. Won’t be coming back because I paid £14 for these two dishes which in my opinion is definitely not worth it. Lady was pleasant though. Also, no access for my pushchair, so my wife had to wait at the top of the stairs.

Took 2.5 hours to get a starter and main out. Service was awful. Had to ask for drinks 3 times before getting one 40 minutes later. Food was dry, naan was burnt. Portions were tiny. When we complained the staff argued with us and would not listen. Will never go back again.

Starters were terrible! Chicken 65 was dry. Lamb chops were chewy and just not flavoured at all. Biriyani lacked flavour and the lamb in this was very dry. Other main course dishes tasted decent enough but the portions were very small. Service was very slow but friendly. The management are lovely and apologised however this place really needs an overhaul to survive in this competitive market. There are plenty of better restaurants to choose from.

Food was great, could taste all the flavours. Have eaten in the restaurant before but this was 1st home delivery. Will definitely be ordering again!

We were warmly greeted by staff member. He was gentle and polite and explained clearly what was included in the meal. Set dosai meal costs only £3.95 and a delicious mutton biryani costs £5.95. The portion was enough for two. One of the better places where we had a proper cup of masala tea. Enough spices and not sweet.

We were visiting Leicester for the day so decided to pop into this excellent Indian Restaurant. We were impressed by the friendliness of the staff as well as the extensive menu. You can get a good Curry as well as a cracking Dosa. Some of the dishes also have a Chinese connection. We went for the Chilli eggs, Pepper Chicken and Mysore Dosa. All dishes were excellent. There's a selection of alcoholic beverages to. We'd definitely recommend this Restaurant.

They missed off part of my order. I am hungry. Proper hungry and I have only rice now. Why couldn’t they have missed of the rice not my madras? When I called they said they can’t deliver the rest as the order is too small. It’s too small because of your mistake. I have shed a few tears now and considered trying to hunt a lamb and create a madras myself but I feel at 8.30 it is too late and dangerous. I asked when I will my money back and there was a few more tears but it will come at some point

Soulless on the day we went. Underground. Fair prices. Rushed service as he wanted to close. Incessant ringing of their land line telephone. Flavours are nothing to write home about.

These guys need more staff. 1 member of staff on to serve the whole restaurant… ridiculous. Waited ages for absolutely everything. Took over 25 minutes to get even get our food and drink ordered.

Great service, food tastes amazing each time we eat here. Could do with redecoration to make it authentic but that doesn't stop us eating here everytime we're in Leicester

Went there on Friday evening but it wasn't busy. The place is in basement so it's easy to miss the restaurant. They have lot of tables but it doesn't seem big from the outside. I ordered a masala dosa without ghee and it was amazing and it cost me only 5.50 pounds. I can suggest dosa there. There were also lot of curries and rice dishes but I was craving only for dosa.

Excellent food and service.Especially Indian

The staff were lovely. The decor is drab The paneer tasted off, the chappati's were re-heats and the lamb chops were like rubber. The King prawns were delicious but overall it was an extremely disappointing experience

The food was not seasoned very disappointing as my previous collection order was ok Food portions were smaller for a higher price quantity was low and placed in white cardboard burger boxes?? Chilli panneer was dry No taste bland will not be spending my money here again sauce had spilles in the white carrier the plastic box slightly flattened why paneer dried up. Very disappointed Horrible placing food in burger boxes so tacky for what I had paid you are not a chicken and chip shop! Overpriced 1 table of customers and yet could not manage to package my 3 items carefully. They close the kitchen an hour before closing time?

Updated for November 2015 visit - Returned with friends and not disappointed. Superb food all round. Service improved this time and now very good. Place was busy on a Thursday evening. Price very reasonable too! Very much recommended. --- First time here and will definitely go back. Excellent food at an excellent price. Generous portions, particularly of the starters. It's indian food, but with a bit of a Chinese twist in places. Food superb. Service started a little rushed but improved. Overall very good indeed. Recommended

Probably the best Indian Restaurant in Leicester City centre. The food tastes authentic, the portions are a good size and the prices are reasonable. The staff are very helpful and the meals are well presented. Good vegetarian options available.

Party of 4, this only affected 2 of us but ruined the whole evening. Waiting staff do not seem very aware of the dishes they are serving. the dish i had ordered was called out by waiter so i took it but it was wrong and contained dairy which i have an allergy to. The dish my husband was given was mine, i swapped my meal with his but his was still not the madras he ordered. When we asked the staff to check the meals we'd been given, i was told that the dish i swapped with my husband (now the correct dish and dairy free) was something else and contained dairy. Neither of us finished the meals, me because worried about allergic reaction and my husband because it was wrong. A lady who came out from kitchen was not helpful and told me i shouldn't order things containing yoghurt if i have an allergy, i hadn't ordered it. but the waiter had said the dish i ordered so i took it, not knowing it was something else. One of the staff looked awkward when our request for 50% off the bill was denied by the lady, he did come back with a bottle of wine on the house though. We will not be returning to this restaurant and waiting staff need to be well informed of each dish before they serve to the table to avoid dangerous mistakes in giving food with an allergen to somebody with a severe allergy.

The chicken was either reused or had be thawed and re frozen. It had a very strange aftertaste. I am quite expecting to be ill in the morning.

Tasty South Indian food with lovely service

Everything was extra small portion. The veg samosa was as good as one bite and they charge 3.5for 3 pieces, not fair. I ordered for two person but it was just enough for one person.

The food was good, although they really need to pop the heating on before customers arrive as it was very cold to sit. Otherwise good service and food, would return for a good meal, basic but tasty.

Warm welcome by staffs, great food and awesome service. Great place and very clean inside. Will be returning again soon.

6 of us lawyers met for reunion meal which was so disappointing. Table booked for 8pm but slow service led to main courses arriving near 10pm. Some of food cold. Whilst starters were ok, main meals were of poor quality. A larger party took up half of premises which might have contributed to delays etc. Service was awful. The toilets were filthy which is inexcusable. Walls and sinks etc need a deep clean.

This was my first time having a biriyani from a restaurant in UK. Taste wise, I would say that it was good, it's more of a north Indian type of biriyani but not spicy. Price wise I think Shanti is really affordable when compared to other restaurants around Leicester.

We eventually had to leave the restaurant to attend the show we were due to see, our food order still not having been taken. An exceptionally poor experience with not a single thing to recommend,
