I have been to Santanas many times and I loved the slightly bohemian feel to the restaurant, random chairs with no two the same, slightly chaotic decor and dependably good food. Admittedly this was a few years ago. When I went back, all of the interesting chairs and decor had gone, replaced with generic chairs, tables, decor …….and food. What has gone wrong? Instead of nicely presented and tasty pizza, we got a soggy based pizza and a Carbonara which wasn’t as good as an Asda ready meal. On a positive note, the squid starter was actually quite good A few years ago when I used to dine at Santanas, the place was always busy, this time, the restaurant was half empty. If the management are reading this they need to know that the restaurant is half empty because the food is half as good as it used to be. Bring back the mismatched chairs and good pizzas! And your restaurant will be full again.

Obviously popular with the locals as it got really busy. Very friendly staff and delicious food.

There is a good buzz in the place with a mix of customers. The food is excellent at very reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Visited here with my partner yesterday, not for the first time. Excellent food for a very good price - I got the calzone with napoli sauce, and my partner got the lunchtime special, consisting of potato skins, primevera pasta, and ice cream. I do recommend visiting.

Family meal 4 adults and children. What a great menu. Great service. Great food and very reasonable prices. We had drinks, starters, main courses, and 1 sweet . The only negative thing was the difficulty in parking your car , so much so we got a ticket on 1 of the car's

Food was lovely and fast service, atmosphere was slightly disappointing due to visitors in the restaurant, not guests, noisy and distracting.

I went on my own, I have no friends who actually work with me, so I am always eating alone but give me a different experience. The place was fairly empty, but a few students with their girlfriends on a date I think also eat. I ordered a starter and a pizza, all very good and delivered swiftly to my table. There is a gap between courses which is also nice. The staff were pleasant and because eits a student area the prices are also pleasant.

Service is excellent, portions are generous, and prices are very reasonable. Would recommend the antipasti if you are hungry as it covers most starters on the menu and the portion is huge!

The restaurant is beautiful, the staff were really friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves until our taxi arrived to take us home and the food was delicious with great texture, quality and the presentation was spot on ,will definitely go again.

We've just been here tonight for my sons 30th Birthday, the food was absolutely amazing, huge portions and great prices, but what I loved the most was the staff, every single one of them were so friendly and we had lovely humorous interactions with them all, I would recommend this place 100% and we will definitely be back, thank you for a lovely time x

I visited this restaurant recently and was utterly disappointed. The food was downright gross; it tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. To make matters worse, I found a hair in my food, which completely ruined my appetite. The service was abysmal, with waitstaff seeming indifferent and inattentive. Overall, a dreadful experience that I wouldn't wish upon anyone.

Went here tonight on the off chance/ had different plans that didn't pan out. But I have no regrets. It was really good. I have been before, but pre Covid. There were only a few customers in when I arrived (early evening). I was welcomed by a lovely member of staff and felt at home right away. Complementary bread was nice and I went straight in for a main from the specials. I was spoiled for choice... all sounded amazing. I plumed for the Chicken and Tiger prawn Cajun spiced pasta. It was delivered after some deliberation of pasta choice. It was piping hot, a generous portion of Tiger prawns and Chicken and it tasted amazing 👏. It was a bit like the scene where the food critic in Ratatouille tasted the Ratatouille and was bowled over. It was excellent... go and try it.... you'll like it 😃 By the time I left 7:30 ish), the place was pretty full.

Had a meal here with my family on Monday night, the service was excellent, really pleasant attentive staff & fantastic food and brilliant value for money, I was pleasantly surprised when I went to pay the bill for a table of 5. I would highly recommend pizzeria santana 👍👍👍

Used to be lovely but food wasn’t very nice at all, especially the pizza. The staff were also quite rude.

We absolutely love this place, it's a lovely little restaurant. It's very well priced and even do a happy hour special where you get a 3 course meal. The staff are brilliant and can't do enough for you. They all make a real fuss of our little one when we go in. We have never had a bad meal here and I can't recommend it enough.

Found this place by chance a few years ago when we went for Sunday lunch before a gig in town. Since then we’ve been back countless times and it never disappoints. The staff are friendly professional and efficient. And for the cost of two courses on a Sunday you’d be hard pushed to find a tastier Sunday lunch at that price point anywhere else.

Great value Italian food & lots of choice

Nice little place for pasta. The pasta is ordered was delicious. Creamy tomatoe sauce with penne. My friend ordered a calzone which he enjoyed.

Absolutely amazing. I travel to the UK every 6 months and this restaurant is an absolute visit once or twice in the two weeks I am there. No other restaurant compares.

I went to the restaurant for a friend's birthday party. I ordered for starters, king prawn with lemon and garlic. The prawns were juicy and the lemon and garlic sauce was very tasty, with just the right amount of lemon and garlic. For main I had fillet steak, medium rare, with the pizzaiola sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce was very good. I opted for salad as the accompaniment (other options were chips or vegetables) which was quite substantial and came with a balsamic dressing. The service was very good, despite us being a large table of 12. My fellow diners all said their food was good. I highly recommend it, best steak I have had in a very long time.

I've been eating here since I was a uni student - 10yrs ago! Staff always go the extra mile and are so friendly. Food is top notch and prices great too. Best restaurant in Newcastle.

We come here often for Sunday dinner and I honestly can’t find fault with it. Very reasonably priced for two courses and the food is always beautiful. Every element of it is so tasty. Staff are excellent, very professional and efficient. They’re always so friendly and more than welcoming to us and our baby boy. Often tempted to try else where for a change but don’t see the point! Beautiful food, highly reccomended

Good, honest food. Our go to place for a Sunday lunch. I love the lamb roast dinner as it rivals our favourite carvery. Who knew an Italian restaurant did such good Sunday roast. We have also tried the pastas, pizzas and such (we're not totally ignorant) and can heartily recommend the food as it's always fresh and a delight on the palate. The portions are large enough to fill you unlike some Italian restaurants that serve food on oversized plates with lots of decorations around a tiny speck of real food. The service is always fast, friendly and polite in what is a very reasonably priced restaurant.

Fast friendly service, with a great value menu. This has been a favourite of mine for sometime, and my latest visit not only didn’t disappoint but was even better than previous visits.

The food was ok for the price. Disappointed with the drinks, the brands which are listed on the menu are not what is served. My husband ordered a birra moretti and got a birra murana. I ordered a pinot grigio rose and not sure what i got but was awfully sweet for a pinot grigio. I then ordered a small bottle of prosecco which tasted like a moscato. We used to come here a few years back and it has definitly gone down. However the owner was lovely, really friendly.

I've been eating at this restaurant for many years, as a couple, with family and in larger groups for birthdays. Usually having pasta, pizza or fillet steak...always top quality taste wise. It's super cosy, you can see the chefs too...the one great thing apart from the food is the staff...there so funny...especially if its your birthday 🎂

Been coming here now for years and it seems over the last 6 months it's realy went down hill you can see there's no love in the food anymore Sunday lunch watery mash same with turnip freezing cold Yorkshire and basically no gravy...very sorry to say this but I'll not be returning think I'll go where they respect you as a customer meaning the food

Best food in Newcastle by far! Service was absolutely amazing, and the atmosphere was really lovely, warm and cozy. My husband had the 3 course meal, which consisted of potato skins, Steak and chips and a pudding. I had the crab and lobster ravioli. We will definitely be going again soon.

Long-established restaurant, well worth the short trip from the city centre. Comfortable, great food, great service, well priced, including a very competitive 3 course offer.

We were undecided where to go and stumbled across santana’s whilst driving. What a gem! We visited on a Thursday evening. Visited with my partner who is super picky. We shared potatoe skins to start. These were so crispy and well cooked. For mains we had chicken in peppercorn sauce and chicken Kiev pizza. Mr picky advised me that the peppercorn sauce was the best he’d tasted and I had to agree it was so creamy and flavoursome. My Kiev pizza was next level with real chunks of chicken which were cooked tender. I ended the meal with an espresso martini and even given tips how to make my own. Staff were super friendly and attentive. Price was very reasonable for the jesmond postcode. We will definitely return.

Lovely Sunday night meal. I had olives and bread to start ( really good sized portion) and mushroom risotto which was lovely. My friends had fishsoup ( huge) and halloumi starters and meat based risotto and carbonara for mains. All good sized portions and we went away with no room for desserts or coffees.

Took the family there yesterday. Having been lots of times before and mostly been very happy. I ordered the cod and King prawns in a chilli sauce. When it eventually came it was easy to see the cod had been a frozen piece defrosted then cooked.. it was very watery with zero taste. I did mention this, and they admitted it was frozen and very bland. If a complimentary drink or pudding had been offered I would have accepted it, but it was just brushed under the carpet sadly and nothing mentioned.

Visited today (NYD) 5 adults & 4 kids, food was excellent & the service was really good & quick, can’t fault the place. Will defo be returning

I have been going to Santana's for nearly 40 years, after my dad took me as a toddler many moons ago and to this day, it remains my go to Italian restaurant. I am a little boring in terms of always having the same thing of minestrone soup and penne bolognese, but they are so delicious and perfectly cooked, that I just can't resist. I also love how the interior has retained all its character, cosiness and atmosphere. The beautiful collage of wall tiles, the mixed bottles at the bar and open hatch where you can see the chefs at work in the kitchen. All that is something that should never change. One thing I do miss though is the wine bottles on the tables that had the candles inserted inside and wax running down. As well as being yet another Santana's tradition, they added an extra touch of magic and romance on date nights or evening get togethers. Maybe they could be brought back for the evening service again? It is also extremely reasonably priced, with fair portion sizes. The lunchtime special for only £7.95 is just amazing value, with no compromise on quality or portion size. I look forward to visiting this iconic local legend more many more years to come.

A favourite during lock down for take-aways as their pizzas are delicious. Booked with my sister and brother-in-law for a mid week meal and while the food was lovely , the service was really slow. Even though it wasn't very busy, it took ages to get our order and we had to chase up part of it as it was missing. Might stick to take aways in future.

Nette Inneneinrichtung, freundliche Bedienungen, besonders im ausführlichen Gespäch mit einem anderen Gast. Pizza kann ich leider gar nicht empfehlen. Kein Geschmack, weder im Käse noch sonstwo.

We went for a cheeky happy hour meal but unfortunately missed it but still left happy. We had potatoe skins, deep fried brie ( perfectly cooked) and halloomi and they all tasted very good for a local Italian. We then had pizzas and whilst not stand out out as the best ever, they were very nice. Overall I'd definitely recommend this place, is it cheap no, could it be a little be it be better, yes... but I'll be be back soon and this time I'll make sure I have tipping money

Lovely experience at this restaurant, couldn't fault it at all. The staff were friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was great and the restaurant in general is lovely to look at. I had the chicken risotto and it was perfect. We didn't have to wait long for our food and each meal was a hearty portion and excellent value for money. The food was absolutely delicious, thank you to the chefs who cooked it! Will definitely come back :)
