very average food which is very highly priced. Its not casual dining of nice food or casual dining of good food. Its casual dining of moderate food without much atmosphere and only a couple of tables have a good view

More attention to detail. Serving good oysters at £24 per half dozen smothered in chopped shallots is disastrous. Get a grip!

I feel I had to write this review after visiting the outside restaurant with friends two days in a row and on both occasions when we checked our bill they charged us for two bottles of wine instead of one, that can’t be a coincidence! The service was very slow and I wouldn’t say the staff were that friendly. The setting is amazing so definitely worth visiting but make sure to check your bill!!

Absolutely fantastic food and service in this restaurant. All staff a credit to the hotel. We only managed 2 course but the deserts looked great.

Crab linguine and goats cheese roulade to start. Both were lovely however I did have food envy looking at the crab from across the table, it was delicious. For mains we had the pork special and I had the monkfish, oyster, scallop and cucumber which was very tasty. The staff were attentive and the setting lovely. Drinks I found were a little pricey at over £20 for a double vodka and a double gin, but they were presented well and service was great.

It’s just so relaxed eating here even before you are shown to your table!! Just sit in the conservatory peruse a menu order and then you are shown through to your table!! The food was great we didn’t feel rushed in any way and our waiter knew his stuff and was very good!! We will be back and by the way I do like chocolate brownies even though they weren’t available this time!!!

Excellent choice and food cooked to perfection we had both breakfast and evening dinner in the Sands and couldn’t fault. If I had one comment which is very minor breakfast Carbis grill the baked beans are warm and not hot when compared to the rest. However I do like my food extremely hot so I am not the norm.

A superb place to eat - the quality of the food is exceptional and the service brilliant. The highlight of our 3 night stay in Carbis Bay Resort. Will see you again soon !!

If only the staff in the restaurant were as attentive as the bar managers service ! We came here in late September 2019 and we had an average meal we thought we would give it the benefit of the doubt and try again in October and it was delicious. So here we were again today and what a disappointment The food was below standard we had to chase service for condiments etc! Unfortunate a bad experience.

Staying at the Carbis Bay, part of the wonderful offer I had included dinner. Prior to dinner we had drinks and nibbles in The Conservatory before we were taken through to The Sands restaurant. Off the bat the look of the restaurant surprised us. It felt very beige and average, lacking in character. Our first courses arrived and alas my scallops were barely tepid. They offered to change these, but as my friend was already way through her starter that did not really work. For our main courses my friend had the “Executive Fish & Chips” which was made up of 5 sorts of fish. When we asked what these were it proved a challenge to get an answer and when it arrived it seemed like 5 blobs of thick batter and more a case of spot the fish and then try to deduce what it was. The different batters were lost alas and yes it was proper thick batter, no tempura interpretation. I on the other hand had the Fillet of Beef Rosini which came with Crouton Pomme Purée, Tempura Oysters, Garlic Wild Mushrooms, Bone Marrow and Merlot Jus. The meat was good. Being rather a carnivore however the combination like all the dishes just seemed like they tried too hard and had not got it quite right. We ended up being somewhat lost for words with it all. A last comment is with regards to service. I had to pay a little extra for my steak which was fine however when the girl processed my card there was an issue with the machine and I felt it very rude this was announced ever so crassly in front of my guest. It was a good friend and it was fine, but a little discretion or tact would not go amiss. I think the best summing up would be lacking in refinement. To end on a positive it was lovely not to be rushed at any stage and to be served after dinner tea/coffee in the conservatory.

We were staying in St Ives & wanted fine dining & was told Sands restaurant in Carbis bay hotel was the place to go. Great ..so we booked it up for 4 of us. We all dressed up & got a taxi to the hotel . On arrival we walked through reception into the lounge area. All good with a pianist playing light music. Ordered wine from the very good drinks menu & perused the dinner menu. We noticed people slouching around in walking gear & tracksuits & the guy playing the piano in jeans & t-shirt. For a supposedly high end hotel/restaurant there’s very mixed clientele. Whilst some people pay top dollar others are there on cheap deals. It clearly works for the hotel as they are very busy but without sounding snobby, when you’re all dressed up & paying very high end prices for dinner maybe they should have a dress code & behaviour code in the restaurant ? Or maybe 2 different restaurants ? Having said that the food was absolutely fantastic & none of us could find fault with the cuisine or service & would definitely dine here again when in the area but think the hotel needs to find its identity !

Booked in for an evening meal to celebrate our anniversary and we were very pleased with the food and service. Good advice for a wine choice and we left as very happy diners.

Sands Restaurant is a very nice place to enjoy a meal with plenty of space between the tables and fantastic views. The food is excellent with perfect timing between courses. Good selection of wines.

Lovely evening meal , booked at the last minute. Lots of Fish and followed by a wonderful pudding. Service was good and the wine list affordable.

Firstly the food is amazing can’t fault it, however the service is not. Booked this for my husbands birthday travelled a long way and booked way in advance, my father in law had rang prior to arrival and paid £50 towards our meal, it was not easy trying to get this taken from the bill, if you are staying at the hotel you will get first class service if not I suggest you go somewhere where your custom will be appreciated

We had breakfast in the restaurant each morning, and had one evening meal. We couldn't fault the food or service. Very high standard, and a bonus that the restaurant overlooks the sea. Just one minor complaint,,,,that it was very hot in the Restaurant and we had to ask if they could open some windows.

We’ve visited previously and weren’t overly impressed but decided to give it another go as the location is convenient when staying at the hotel.

Had evening meal here , great views over the bay and a comfortable setting . The head waiter was very informative and helpful . The food was interesting although felt as if it was trying a little to hard . The Ham Egg and Chips starter was a great variation on the theme and my main was well cooked although portion size was a little small . Additional sides of veg at £4.50 felt steep when on my Pork dish I should have had carrots but had one cut in half artfully placed . Dessert was very good , service from some of the waiting staff was a little slow , asked three times for the bill to sign is an example . Overall very nice experience and will try again .

This is the second time we have had Sunday Lunch at Carbis Bay Hotel. It was a very special lunch, the waiting staff were excellent, the lunch was very good and tasty. There has been a piano player on both occasions which makes the lunch very. Special. Thank you Carbis Bay, good lunch, great views, wonderful experience. The set menu is value for money

Not sure if the 2 rosettes remain but the restaurant, service and food were all very average and food, in our opinion, was very overpriced.

Once again we were treated to delicious food excellent service from friendly and knowledgable staff!! We managed 3 courses and enjoyed every one of them!! I even asked for something for pudding that wasn’t on the menu and of course that wouldn’t be a problem!!

The menu was very varied and wide ranging, but we had the crab roulade and prawn and fish chowder to start, the Jacob's ladder beef, which was slow cooked and with a lovely choice of vegetables, and the chicken curry (that is a brief description of a delicious plate of food), and two deserts which were sublime, and so beautifully presented. Coffee and home made petit fours to follow, and all served by a friendly, efficient team of staff. Thoroughly recommended.

When dining I can just about eat two courses , but with the fine dining at the sands I managed five . Very small portions and very expensive, we only ate there the first night .

We had a lovely evening at the restaurant overlooking the sea. It is right on the beach and has uninterrupted views out to sea. We were very cosy on a cold night and enjoyed a pizza and G&T.; We were staying at the Carbis bay hotel estate and had the option to put the meal tab on our room should we have wanted to.

I have eaten here several times and never been overly impressed. Personally I prefer the beach restaurant. The choice at the sands isn't as vast as I would expect for a high end restaurant and I wouldn't eat here if it wasn't part of the accommodation packages that I've bought

My husband treated me to the sundowner special, we chose an evening where it was due to be sunny as the spa is all outside and the 'heated' outdoor pool needs some sun to keep you warm!

This is the Michelin starred restaurant of the Carbis Bay Hotel, the food, as you would expect, is exquisite .

We stayed a couple of days in the hotel and we’ve tried both restaurants! Beach club is one of my favorites so far, however the food in this restaurant is delicious! Is very well presented also.

So here I am looking forward to staying in the Carbis Bay Hotel for 4 nights. We decided to have a meal in the restaurant on our first night. (Whilst writing this I am still staying in the hotel!). For some bizarre reason the waitress Alex wanted us to order our food before we had even ordered any drinks! When I explained that I would like to order drinks first, she took the order then went off in a strop!! A few minutes later another waitress arrived (no name badge) and wanted to take our food order. When giving her our starter and main choice she then asked for our dessert choice! I questioned this as I explained I might not even want one and would leave ordering mine. To keep the piece my wife told her what she thought she might want. The starters presentation was great but just tasted ok. Same with the mains but what should have a been a lovely piece of pork fillet was over cooked and hard. I informed Alex but I know it was ignored. Then the fun bit. Mains cleared away, cutlery brought out for dessert but I hadn’t ordered one. Out comes the waiter with a dessert for my wife. I explained I hadn’t even seen the menu to order mine, he duly brought me a menu. Alex then turns up and asked me what I wanted. I said the Frangipane please, she turned around and said there might be any left as I should have ordered it earlier, how rude!! anyway a few minutes later she comes back with one and told me I was lucky. Looking around the restaurant and listening to other people they were going through the same issues. The place is a Shambles! Staff who obviously don’t want to be there, either rude or just looking like they are downright depressed, maybe it’s from working there!. A smile is surely not hard. Found the same result with most of the staff for breakfast. So how did it get it’s 2 rosettes, really not sure but probably for the food presentation, certainly not for the taste and definitely not for the service!! It is obvious that the management don’t reply to Trip Advisor comments and more than likely don’t read them which is where lies the problem. They think all is well and it is not.

Absolutely terrible service this evening. What is supposed to be a 2 rosette restaurant the staff really let it down. Others customers that came in and ordered after us had their “5 course meal” which, in fact, was 3 with coffee had ordered, eaten and left before we had received our mains. We were not asked if our meal was ok at any point throughout. No one asked if we wanted more to drink and when I tried to raise the attention of who I can only assume is the restaurant manager, I was ignored. We have still not been offered our desserts or coffee so we got up and left. Luckily the meal was part of the deal we booked as there is no way I would pay those prices for that shocking service!!! But on the other hand if we were paying full price we may have been treated better!!!

Meal almost inedible ,tasteless complaints to staff were ignored ,when mentioned to management we were. Told we should have got staff name but no one wears a name badge. Management said it was due to data protection!

What a great experience we had dining here for Sunday lunch. The service and food was exceptional. The complimentary wine was a nice bonus. For 3 courses for under £22, you can go wrong and the views from Carbis Bay Hotel are spectacular despite the building work that is currently take place outside. I would highly recommend a meal here. We had the salmon and crayfish starter, followed by a striploin beef roast, haddock with pea risotto & parmesan and a chicken roast with sundried tomatoes and mash. To end we had the Bakewell tart and an Bramley apple crumble. Delicious.

We had lunch here. It was really lovely and tasty and filling. I don't mind paying a bit more than average if the food is good and the quantity and quality is good. Staff really pleasant and attentive.

The menu is very limited unless you are a meat-eater, there is only 1 vegetarian option so if you are staying for a few nights you will have to go elsewhere or eat the same thing every night. Food was nice but a bit style or substance

We visited here and had a 5 course dinner. Everything was lovely although the service was extremely slow.

We ate here on our first night, the menu was good, the ambience pleasant, unfortunately spoiled by some silliness. There was a supplement on the fillet steak, a supplement on the lamb and finally a supplement on the vegetables; we had been served and waited for some plain vegetables of the day - nothing - we asked the waiter and were told that all vegetables had to be ordered and paid for separately ! We have no objection to ordering and paying for the more unusual side dishes but we are not happy when simple plain daily veg cannot be served with a meal. We know this seems to have become more common but it annoys us intensely. This dinner was part of a package so why not charge a little more and save this messing around at the table which rather detracted from the overall feel of the evening.

We had a relaxing meal in the restaurant you weren’t rushed or bothered at all. Service was great water was regularly topped up and drinks glasses were never left empty.

Wonderful food, great service. Receptive and able to cope easily with our gluten allergy. This is because the food is freshly prepared and made. The Hake was exceptional. Nice ambience and low level music from the piano in the conservatory.

We had a meal at the Sands Restaurant as part of our first night's stay at the hotel. After our experience, we certainly would not come back. Things started well, with a delicious starter and appetiser. However, when my wife's main meal arrived, she tried to eat but the food really wasn't o her taste. Fair enough, you can't always order the perfect meal, so we swapped plates. I too could not finish the meal as it was far too salty, and the bitter flavour of the orange made the sauce quite unpalatable. I mentioned this to the staff and was met with a shrug.

Varied menu, hard to make a choice as all looked very inviting. Every mouthful was a delight. Fantastic, attentive service. What a treat!

We stayed at the Carbis Bay Hotel and had dinner included with our deal. The good points.... a good selection offered on the menu and the waiting staff were very attentive and polite. Sadly the food was not as expected. Very small portions, especially for the prices charged. We are more than happy to pay for good food, however this was definitely not worth the price tag. Flavours were ok but by no means exceptional. No better than a good pub. There are a number of ‘supplements’ on the menu - meaning a beef dish costs £32 that would leave a child hungry! When it came to dessert... we chose a fondant which was very good. However, my husband wanted the cheese board, but priced at £19.50 we thought this was extortionate and chose not to have it based on this. How a cheeseboard can cost this much is beyond me!

Superb location with direct beach and sea views. Well appointed, not cramped. Menus with a difference beautifully presented and superbly cooked on hot plates! We had a two night stay at the Carbis Bay hotel which included an evening meal on the first night plus a cream tea on the second day. The hotel is very good and the staff are generally very helpful and efficient except in the Sands restaurant.

We had spent the morning on Carbis Bay's beautiful sandy beach and opted to try lunch in the hotel, whose restaurant overlooks the beach and gives great views. It's true that the menu contains options at some eye-watering prices, however we chose a pepperoni pizza to share and a children's plain pizza, which was almost the same size as the adult one and was followed by ice cream at no extra cost.

5 course dinner for 4 nights was amazing All good but scallops were wonderful and the specials each night were a chance to try things to another level when we chose pan fried chicken and then pork loin chop with faggot, sounds a normal type of meal but oh no it was amazingly presented and so tasty

We were visiting St Ives for a long weekend and booked a table at the highly recommended Carbis Bay Sands restaurant. To say it was a let down is an understatement, from the moment we were seated at our table it went from bad to worse. Our aperitifs were over 'toniced' spilt on the way over and we had to ask for our glasses to be cleared once the starters arrived. The intensive wine list turns out to not be, with several of the wines not available, plus our wine arrived after our over cooked, dry mains. Probably their focus was else where as there was a wedding reception next door- would recommend enquiring if there is a wedding on when book in advance as they are unable to cope.

Al final de la comida cuando la camarera vino y nos preguntó si habíamos disfrutado de nuestra comida, me explicó que me decepcionó y que el pescado estaba muy cocidas. Encogió sus hombros! En general, no es una gran experiencia.

We had a meal included in our hotel package, the service was superb, the quality of the food stunning. Nothing was too much trouble.

We dined as part of a package deal at the hotel so it was good value for us. I would have considered it a bit overly expensive otherwise. Fabulous views over Carbis bay from the restaurant and Danny the Maitre D found us a window seat. The service was fantastic. Couldn't fault it. The wine was delicious but they serve half bottles in a carafe rather than in the bottle which means you don't get to see the label and can't be sure of the provenance. The main problem with this presentation, however, is that there's no cooler to keep the wine chilled. Our second small glass of wine was ruined by being warm. The 'deconstructed' trifle was a bit of a joke. It looked like someone had thrown all the ingredients for a trifle on the plate and left the diner to assemble it. Not sure it worked.

We enjoyed a delicious meal at the sands restaurant. The food was excellent and the service was brilliant. Danny, the Maitre D, found us a table overlooking the bay, as requested. The fish was fresh and beautifully presented. We enjoyed all of it. The only exception was the 'deconstructed' trifle which just didn't work. Also the wine being served in a carafe meant that it didn't keep cool. What's wrong with a bottle in a wine cooler? It works!

I went here I while back in March so this is a late review. Me and my partner both had the pork dish and both said it was THE BEST food we have ever tried! So yummy!

Visited 'Sands' on one evening whilst staying at Carbis Bay Hotel and thought it was very well run and serviced. The food was good without being over the top or pretentious, but could have benefited from being a little more adventurous considering it attracts many outside diners not just hotel guests.

The food, especially evening meal in the Sands restaurant is quite exceptional. A very comprehensive choice on all courses, together with Chefs specials. Cooked and presented in an excellent manner.

Overall really poor service, We were asked 5 times within 3 minutes of sitting down if we were ready to order, then No one came near or by for at least 15 minutes. We ended with a 25 minute wait for dessert after ordering. To add insult to injury you could have played cricket with the brownie it was so hard. There didn’t seem to be the normal restaurant system where waiters are assigned tables to service – it was just a free for all. For some reason they felt the need to pipe music into the restaurant – and it was the same music we’d heard when sitting in the bar earlier so must have been on a loop. And yes the same music was playing again at breakfast. Breakfast was manic – just felt so rushed. On the buffet table things were running out & there was a permanent queue – maybe because breakfast finished at 10 on a Saturday – come on, people want to relax. Getting a coffee refill was a challenge, and to have a fried breakfast served with less than half a mushroom was a joke…a joke shared across the tables. We were eating breakfast when a waitress arrived trying to put down two further breakfasts. Then when my husband had finished and I hadn't the waitress cleared his plate. Etiquette is that you wait for everyone to finish before clearing plates. Not good.

From the moment we arrived ... greeted in the bar area and taken to our table - we were made to feel special.The staff were friendly and professional at the same time and were quietly attentive.The menu was more extensive then had been expected and there was something for everyone ... and it didn't disappoint ... presentation was a delight!The piano in the background enhanced the experience of a leisurely Sunday lunch by contributing to our relaxation and the enjoyment of our experience even more.

A large group of us ate in The Sands restaurant one evening. Cooking for loads of people is always a good test and the Sands Restaurant at Carbis Bay came out tops! The food was superb; meat succulent; vegetables cooked to perfection and the waiting staff couldn't have been more helpful. The views on a sunny day must be superb - sadly it was cloudy and raining when we were there. Hope to go back soon.

My husband and I decided to eat at Sands while staying at Carbis Bay Hotel. It is fairly pricey but fantastic quality food. We both opted for 3 courses which were all delicious and worth every penny. My hubby is still raving about the rack of lamb and creme brûlée now! Service is good and staff are friendly. We had views of the pool and of Carbis Bay beach - just stunning.We would definitely recommend others to eat here.

We had a lovely evening meal on our first night at the hotel. The food was good and the waiters very attentive. The breakfasts from the kitchen were very small for those with a big appetite, though if you help yourself to the hot buffet (bacon sausage beans and scrambled eggs ) you can have a portion to suit your appetite. If staying on a B&B basis, I was surprised to see Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs (my normal choice of breakfast 2-3 times a week) attracts a £5 surcharge - smoked Salmon isn't that expensive these days. The quality of the breakfasts whether continental, from the hot buffet or from the kitchen (I had a cheese omelette one morning which was delicious) was all very good

My boyfriend proposed to me last night whilst we listened to the live band, a beautiful setting overlooking the beach followed by a gorgeous dinner. Very romantic setting and will always hold a very special memory for us. We loved the food, service and evening.

We've had a late luncheon on the patio with a fabulous sea view. The staff was very friendly and the food didn't come cheap but was worth it, yummy!
