I went with my husband and our two dogs for an impromptu breakfast at the Sandringham restaurant. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly lady who was kind to our dogs and gave them a couple of treats whilst we waited for a table to be ready in the dog friendly area. A lovely polite young man called Lucas came to take us to our table and seated us in a great area with space for our pooches. There are dog blankets at each table and a bowl of water was provided which was well received by our thirsty girls. We ordered pancakes with bacon/honey and poached egg with avocado on sourdough, coffee, ginger beer and a decadent hot chocolate served in the most beautiful royal china. The restaurant is very tastefully decorated, a light and airy space giving it a casual and relaxed atmosphere. All of the staff were efficient, friendly, polite, the drinks and food came at the right time and it was delicious! Well done to the team, we will be back!

We came as part of a visit to Norfolk. As a big Royals fan, I was very excited to come and see a royal resident. I was sadly disappointed. Paid to see 4 rooms in the household. Gardens were beautiful and peace but tea room was HUGELY overpriced so pack a picnic.

Very relaxed dining experience, in an open airy, bright restaurant. Produce sourced from the Estate and freshly cooked to order. Very tasty plus a Sandringham cocktail or two!

We visited here on a walk from a nearby campsite. We were able to go in with our dog. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. The people working there were so polite and very welcoming. We had a Sandringham breakfast each. The produce used were very tasty and so well seasoned. Everything was served on the most beautiful china. Would definitely recommend.

My sister treated me to afternoon tea at Sandringham. I’ve never been to Sandringham before and was excited to go. The afternoon tea has one sitting at 3pm and is held in the Sandringham cafe. What a disappointment. There was no music playing. We were seated at our table which was nicely set up. but no table cloth and the napkins were paper too! As for the sandwiches, there were two finger sandwiches and a mini finger bun, my sisters egg mayo was stale and had to be replaced. The scones were cold and the savoury pastries, what a joke. The cakes came out last and again very disappointing. It cost £35 each, so I suppose you get what you pay for. I would rather they upped the price to include cloth napkins, table cloths and some music. The experience at Sandringham should be special. If you paid £50 to see the house and gardens which are very grand, I think the afternoon tea should be at the same level. The royals are running this as a business, at the moment I wouldn’t recommend the afternoon tea or buy it as a gift.

Well very poor all round. The woman at the desk continued to talk to a staff member as we stood waiting to be seated, to then be told they didn’t have any high chairs available, for our 22 month grandson, apparently they have 3 which were all taken, which l find very hard to believe. So he had to sit on a chair, and our laps for the whole visit. We ordered 2pots of tea, when the hot drinks arrived the waitress placed her tray right in front of my grandson who could reach out and touch, when asked to move she didn’t open her mouth, no apologies, nothing. Do you not teach your staff about health and safety. Very poor quality food, the cheese scone had no taste and was doughy, like it wasn’t cooked enough, pea and mint soup , had no real flavour quite bland, and far to thick for our liking. So disappointing, have been in here a few times and the service and food just gets worse. The price they charge for food is unbelievable, if it was good quantity then we don’t mind paying for it, but what you are serving, sort out your kitchen staff/ cook. I felt that children are not made welcome in this place, and felt this on our last visit too, but another table with a dog was fussed over by waiting staff and the dog kept barking, which l find unacceptable. Made my opinion known when leaving , but was given a card to write down what was the matter, such poor customer service. Will not be returning

It will be difficult to find another restaurant in 2024 which provides such poor service anywhere in the country. Having been asked to wait 15 minutes for a table the staff informed us they had no tables left having let others in consistently while we waited. Once I pointed this out a table was magically found (this was unsurprising given the restaurant was only one third full). The staff were incredibly rude throughout the encounter and proceeded, once we were seated, to tell us we would have to wait another 20 minutes before someone would be over to take an order. Frankly a 40 minute wait for a club sandwich in an empty restaurant where the staff treat you with disdain and disgust wasn’t the vibe we were looking for when we came to Sandringham for New Year’s Day, which led to our early departure hungry and disappointed. 1 Star.

We made bookings afternoon to have afternoon tea in the Sandringham restaurant followed by a visit to the Luminate Christmas lights. We were staying in the region, and as Sandringham is a beautiful location, it was an ideal way to celebrate our weddings anniversary. The afternoon tea was a disappointment which was such a shame. We have had afternoon tea at Highgrove on two previous occasions, both of which were wonderful experiences, so we were really looking forward to visiting Sandringham and expected tea to be as good as those enjoyed at Highgrove - or better. Sadly, it fell short by a long way. The sandwiches were okay, the fillings not exciting, we were expecting smoked salmon, always a favourite with us, but not this time. However, we don’t eat meat so certainly we were very pleased not to have ham or pork products. The baked savouries, scones and pastries were over baked and the texture of some too dry to eat. We left feeling very disappointed. The local jam and cream, however, were delicious. I would like to say in defence of the Sandringham property that the staff were excellent. We voiced our concerns about the tea which they passed on to the kitchen. I don’t think it helped that there were so few people in the restaurant. Probably during the summer months when there are more visitors, the experience and the tea, would be more appealing. The lights by Luminate were wonderful. We went early evening so it was not crowded. Plenty of staff were available if required and at the halfway point, there were stalls for food and drink. It was an easy walk with plenty to see and enjoy the changing scenery, but I would imagine quite a long way for little legs!

We have visited Sandringham many times and we arrived after midday and were looking forward to having lunch there. We had our dog with us and we were pleased to see they had a "dog-friendly area" in the restaurant. We were shown to a table and then told we could not order hot food, only "drinks and cakes" We ordered tea and while we were waiting for our tea (that wasn't the best we have tasted) we noticed meals being served to the other parts of the restaurants. Our experience of our visit was very disappointing.

This is not the first time we have visited this restaurant, previously for breakfast, this time we wanted a light lunch. We had to wait about five minutes to be seated, and were given the menu, and told the items that were not available, we have never been here before when everything was available to order. We decided on our choices and waited and waited for someone to come and take our order, after about twenty minutes I managed to attract the attention of a waitress and said to her, think she was the manager, can I place our order, she rudely said in a abrupt manner “ there’s three tables before you then I’ll get back to you “. So, sat there for over thirty minutes, got up and walked out, No apologies and shall not be returning. Noticed other customers complaining on long waiting times.

We have used Sandringham, as meeting point for our family, if we haven’t seen them in a while. We have came here a lot since we first ever came here, which was in 2021. On-site, there is a car park (very expensive), a woods to walk your dogs, a park, lots of green space, a cafe and a shop. There is also Sandringham Castle, just over the road to, and toilets at the cafe. Most of our family has dogs, so its good that there are walking trails within the woods, where you can walk or bike or scooter. The cafe is ok, we normally sit outside, as it’s better for us with dogs, but they do have an undercover area as well for when it rains which is good. The food itself, is very expensive, and the drinks to, so if you can, I recommend bringing your own, if you don’t want to pay a lot for food and drink. Toilets are very clean, and the shop is lovely especially at Halloween/autumn and christmas time.

We decided to pop in for tea and cake, as we hadn't visited here since it had been refurbished. Sadly we have to agree others comments regarding customer service, and will not be returning any time soon. Upon arriving there were a few people in front of us waiting to be seated, which was fine. However, when we reached the front of the queue a member of staff completely ignored us, spoke to the group of 6 behind us who were booked for an afternoon tea and proceeded to seat them instead. When we were eventually seated we were shown to the nearest table possible, no offer to sit by the window, despite the restaurant only having about 20 customers, and there we sat and waited. After 10 minutes, ourselves and a lady from the table behind decided to see what cake was available. No labels on the 3 cakes displayed...Victoria Sponge was guessable, but the others not so easy. Then we returned to our tables and waited. A waitress appeared took another tables order and then disappeared. We counted 8 staff in the time we were there, so they weren't exactly short staffed After almost 15 minutes of waiting I asked a member of staff if they were going to take our, or the customers sitting behind us orders. A curt response was given that a waitress was there taking orders..the young lady had obviously arrived just as I was talking. I can not fault the young lady who served us, or the food and drink that we had, but the customer service is appalling. I dread to think what it is like when it is busy. If you are on a time limit with parking I wouldn't rely on quick food service here. One final note, when we went to pay they didn't even know what we had had to eat or drink...really not a good way for a business to run.

Second time we have been first time was slow on service but food was ok not brilliant but not the worst breakfast we have had, this morning however was not good we waited over 40 minutes for our food for it to come out. The Sandringham breakfast I had was horrible my wife’s was ok and my kids were passable. The young staff were more interested in socialising and helping them selfs to cake than taking table orders, everyone in the restaurant was moaning to each other about the more than poor service perhaps you should have someone managing the restaurant that gives attention to the lack of service. I used to look after all the refrigeration and kitchen equipment a few years back so now how good it once was. For the money that is being asked for it should be worth it not an experience we shall be repeating.

We returned to the beautiful Sandringham Estate this morning and decided to have some food and drink to start our day. On arriving at the restaurant we were met by an extremely rude and obnoxious female member of staff at the reception of the restaurant. No warmth and minimal eye contact. She made us feel so unwelcome. We were so horrified at our first contact with Estate staff that we decided to leave - my children even wondered why the (blond) lady in question was so rude to us. We left and decided to get a takeaway from friendly staff in the takeaway element of the same building. Left a sour taste on what should have been a lovely morning.

Very poor wrapped cakes. Check very carefully if you have intolerance, not all ingredients are listed, I am unfortunately very intolerant to spices and fruit cake contained spice. Quality of cake by rest of party was said to be very poor. Disposable cups(even though they are recyclable and there are waste bins for this) seem very environmentally unfriendly.

Please be aware that if you are visiting to see the house be prepared to be disappointed. For your £10 ticket you will see just the following: The Grand Saloon. The White Drawing Room. The Dining Room. A walk along part of the hallway housing a collection of shotguns. The Ballroom. (With a collection of King Charles' watercolours). Exit. Yup, just 4 rooms. Is that the most they could find? As i regular visitor to stately homes and manor houses, this the most frugal "Visitor experiences" i have have ever experienced. Interior photography is forbidden. If i had known in advance, i would not have bothered. There is also a £13 fee just to visit the gardens.

This used to be a lovely walk-in café pre-covid. You could select your meal from a chalk board or just pick up sandwiches, cakes and drinks at the counter and go to a table of your choice. It was fast and efficient so why have they made so many changes for the worse. Today we had to queue at a reception desk, be escorted to a table of the staff's choice and wait for a waitress to take our order. AND WAIT WE DID !!! After 30 minutes we had not even been offered a drink let alone our much anticipated lunch, from a somewhat restricted menu compared with pre-covid, so we walked out. You can no longer sit in the other adjoining café as it's now a walk through take-away facility - what a shambles. We used to go here about once a month, but with parking charges and such poor service it's no longer worth a visit. You can't even bring your own picnic and eat it by the car on the verges. The new management at Sandringham certainly know how to ruin a great tourist attraction. As for the shop, £70 for a bottle of whiskey - what a joke!!!

Went for tea and cake. Ordered a tea and a hot chocolate, a giant eclair and a cheese scone. The drinks came. The hot chocolate only filled two thirds of the cup, was made with water and did not come with the cream and chocolate as stated on the menu (£4.20). The server then came and said there was no eclairs. The server should have known this before the order was taken. The scone turned up but it was a fruit scone with jam and cream, not the cheese one ordered. All in all feel like for the money we were well and truly ripped off, won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

There were 6 of us, my husband and I, his elderly parents and our 2 young children. We went in wearing our masks and waited by the cake counter at the entrance to be shown to a table. The staff behind that counter just stood there staring at us so I smiled but didn’t get a response (granted it’s not easy with masks so didn’t think much of it). The girl that showed us to a table said we’d have to sit at a table of 4 and one of 2. I asked if they had a highchair and just got a ‘no’. Not friendly or ‘sorry no we don’t’. I then asked her if we could move one of the chairs from the table of 2 (as the little one would have to stay in her pushchair as there was no highchair) and she replied with an unfriendly no you can’t do that. So we sat at 2 tables and the girl took our order for drinks. The paper menu only had drinks on it so we assumed we’d have to go and get the cakes separately. When my husband and I went up to the cake counter we were told in no uncertain terms we were not allowed to get up once we’d been seated else we’d have to leave?!!! We were really offended by this as we had no idea of the rules (didn’t see any sign), nobody explained the system to us and the waitress didn’t ask if we wanted cake when she took our drinks order. I have never been made to feel so uncomfortable or unwelcome for just wanting to buy a piece of cake before! So we sat back down (would have walked out if we didn’t have my elderly in-laws needing a rest), and the waitress came to take our order which was hard as we weren’t allowed to get up and look at the cakes on offer. We will never go back in there again, I appreciate there are Government guidelines that they have to follow but there was no need for the attitude the staff had. No friendly greeting, no explanation of their ordering system and no appreciation that we are giving them business in these testing times. Really really shocking customer service and will be talking a flask and our own cakes next time we visit Sandringham.

Very average. No doubt blamed on Covid-19 but being served a supermarket type sandwich still in its packaging and tea in a paper cup with milk already added and the tea bag still floating is not my idea of acceptable inside a café. There are many far better places that manage to provide a good offering. The staff were very pleasant.

Covid friendly and good options for a ‘cafe’. Friendly staff and tasty treats on offer. Not too expensive either

Used to stop here frequently during walks. Now I have to pay a minimum £3 just to be in the area. Previously I’d forgive the steep prices and disposable plastic and polystyrene cutlery and trays sold on a FOREST. However paying for the privilege of breathing the air is too far.

We went on Wednesday I bought 3 sandwiches and a small £5 salad it wasn’t called that but as it was small £5 and a salad the name seems fitting. Over £17 for the lot. I said are you not taking part in the eat out to help out campaign, the lady said no we are not. This is a take away service but I am going to eat it here, so surly it should come into the campaign. I said I am not going to take the items away and eat at home I am going to eat here on your picnic benches outside. They said it’s still classed as a takeaway as the main cafe is closed. I thought what a rip off for a very average sandwich and £5 salad. It is not a take away if you are eating it on the premises. Shame on The Sandringham estate For not entering into the spirit of the campaign. It just means that I will never eat there again. Also the parking was ridiculously expensive, avoid for what is in essence a bit of Forrest with a posh house

Unfortunately, whilst there have been many aesthetic improvements to the restaurant and facilities, food and drink remains poor value - a thimble of tea would have a normal price of £2.25 (it's about 1.80 due to reduced VAT) it is the smallest cup I've ever seen, barely a big enough cup to completely submerge the tea bag - it's about the same size as one of those minute orange juice glasses you get to use in a low cost travel lodge buffet!I don't think i've even seen such a small vessel of hot drink. When the proprietor sees a review like they will normally write that the prices are in line with similar local cafes, i'm afraid this is not true.

At the moment the cafe is open for take away drinks and cakes. It's an easy system to pay and collect with social distancing. The coffee is fine, there are numerous outdoor benches to sit on and while the time away. We love stopping there after a walk in the woods with our dog.Toilets are open and always clean. The cafe is quite near to the car park.

I have been regularly visiting Sandringham for over 15 years. Over the last year or so unfortunately the Cafe has really gone downhill - at first I thought they’d changed the contractor but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The prices are now at a level of comic absurdity motivated by pure greed. A small slice of cake? £4 Small biscuit... Nearly £3 A j2o... £3Soup and a roll are now at £8! The quality is mediocre at best and no better than you can get from Dobbies for significantly cheaper.I think they are now also charging for butter!!There is refurbishment underway and I hope the management of this establishment use this as an opportunity improve the offer.

We stopped here for lunch today and was very disappointed, we had turkey bacon and leek pie which had a bone in it otherwise ok but the potatoes and mixed vegetables were very dry and under cooked may have been better with some extra gravy. For just under £14 it’s one of the worst meals I have had and I am in my 70 sWe may have just been unfortunate but will not return

Sandringham used to be a great place to stop for a coffee or meal. Lovely park to walk around and inexpensive food for locals. Now Sandringham is charging to park! The cafe is also charging for butter for their scones. What next

I am a dog owner and dog lover but there are places where dogs should not be allowed. Dogs are being allowed in the cafe where people are eating dinner. Three smelly dirty dogs came into the cafe when we were eating. Parking charges are now in place and are extortionate. The cafe is a disappointment and the layout and stock in the gift shop poor. I use to buy the fancy marmalade, jams and chutneys but these are no longer available. The new stock is not as good and cheap quality. We have been regular weekly visitors but will never return as the place is overpriced, a building site and stinks of smelly dog.

The service staff - so helpful. The menu could have been larger; yes it's all home and individually cooked, but more choice should have been available for vegetarians/vegans.

This is a great place to eat in. That is eat. Coffee and cake is not lunch. Great home cooked food nice large room and friendly staff. Car parking charges will be coming in soon because too many people have been parking for free, using the facilities for free after all care of the parkland does cost money. Will re visit

Visiting Sandringham over the Christmas period, not our first visit as its a favourite part of Norfolk. I know they are in the middle of a refurb but this is no excuse. Christmas Day the cafe was open and after a long morning went for a cappuccino, only to be told 'only serving filtered coffee'. Boxing Day visiting again - yippee cappuccino back being served, however no toasted teacakes (always a favourite in the past) but told they don't serve anymore. Flapjacks on the menu on the wall - however none available, all that was in the cabinet was cake that looked very dry and scones, all looked very non appetising. But the biggest gripe - DOGS, in the cafe (indoors, not outside in the half covered outdoor seating area) there were 8 dogs, one very noisy which made the others restless, 2 came in together and absolutely stunk, it was really horrible, we had to leave. Why do non dog owners have to put up with this, hygienically dogs (or animals) shouldn't be allowed in public eating spaces.

Always high expectations when you come in proximity to any Royal related establishment, my review is only based on the Hot Chocolate. It was grainy and dull and needs more investment and though. Venue was nice though.

Arriving on a wet and windy day we needed some tea and cake to warm up. The only gluten free cakes on show were all with chocolate so, being Coeliac, I did ask if that was all they had. The very helpful assistant went out the back and re-appeared with a piece of gluten free lemon sponge from a new cake that was being held back until they had sold the chocolate ones; above and beyond! Good tea all served in spacious clean environment.

The venue is very nice and most of the staff are very friendly and helpful. However, the overall experience is that I had to wait far too long to be served. I queued for nearly 25 minutes to get drinks and a cake. This would have been acceptable if I had been queuing behind a large number of customers, but, in fact, the queue wasn't that long. While I was waiting, a number of staff members wandered about looking as if they had all the time in the world. There was one member of staff on the counter, with another one coming out to help from time to time. When I got near to the front of the queue, I was quite put out that one of the staff members on the counter was not serviing, but merely looking at a list on the counter, while at least 12 people were standing behind me. There was no apology for the long wait. Normally, I would try to discuss any issues I have with a staff member at the time, or at least contact the establishment directly. However, when I asked the young lady on the counter how I could make a complaint, she pointed to some leaflets and told me to fill in a customer feedback form. When I pointed out that I had just queued for over 20 minutes with a 3 year old in tow, she merely repeated, "Fill in the form". While the meals being served around me looked very appetising and the waiting staff looked as if they were working very hard and very efficiently, I would be reluctant to return to this establishment.

If visiting the Sandringham Estate, well worth popping in to the Sandringham Cafe for a Cuppa. Plenty of seating area, friendly staff, and prices that you would expect at Sandringham.

We had walked from the Caravan and Motorhome Club Site for coffee and, as we had our dog with us, we expected that we would have to sit outside. This did not appeal, as it was quite chilly and rainy, but we did not need to worry because a friendly staff member told us that the cafe was dog friendly. The service was quick and efficient and the coffee was good. My wife is Gluten Free. Gluten Free cakes were available.

We came home with a great selection of apples and pears from the orchard, some we had not heard of before, they are all the same price by weight so you just make your own selection into a bag. We will be batch-baking apple-crumble for the freezer. They also have a nice butchery selection and local cheese amongst other edible. Not so keen about Gurneys the fresh fish shop as they didn't seem to want the custom they shut up early. The Fish and chip shop had a gluten problem which I will review separately.
