A very good evening, good service and the fixed menu was outstanding. Great choice of dishes - so something for everyone. This restaurant also offers a wide range of take away options. Local car parking.

We love it here although our appetites can never do the menu justice, so perhaps expensive for what we actually have. But quality costs and i don't begrudge a single penny.. Always better to eat as part of a group so others can take advantage. Beware the cost of drinks and sweets can be a shock.But overall we love it here and always look forward to coming here.

Sans has amazing customer service and are very friendly, the food is so good and i would recommend. When you arrive you are served very quick and the menus are simple and have a huge variety.

Absolutely terrible customer service to the point of being rude and dismissive. The food used to be good some time ago but it’s now tasteless and recooked which is obvious. The rice was soggy and clumpy which is a sign of reheating or microwave warming, the ribs refried to the point that the meat was bone dry through and soaked through in oil. The staff and manager have no idea how to be courteous or even display any level of civility. The food order takers flatly refuse to take a drink order and it’s not their job and the manager just slings a card reader to grab his money. Despite finishing what was on the table, when we tried to order more we got the Spanish Inquisition as to wether we could actually eat more - we had to demand it three times before the lady very reluctantly took the order. Shockingly poor experience on all counts which was a repeat experience from last month so not isolated. In short don’t order take out or even think of going for a meal after lockdown. Such a shame given this was a good place to take the family with great food.

Because of the Covid19 thing, my Wife and I have been somewhat reluctant to have a meal out but did have lunch here yesterday and we needn't have worried - the restaurant was well prepared for Covid19 compliance with fewer tables and clear screens separating them, and plentiful hand sanitiser. The staff were extremely pleasant and polite and wore masks and face shields. The food was varied and excellent. Excellent value and thoroughly recommended.

Have been waiting for San to re open for ages and wasn't disappointed with our latest visit.All the usual food on the menu tasting great with no limit on what you order.The restaurent is well protected for the current world with screens between each table and all staff wearing face masks.Cant praise enough but must deduct one star as my wife is now Gluten Free and the menu is good but could do with a few more GF menu items please :)

This was our first time here and they do ‘eat out to help out’ this month!When we arrived I was very impressed by their amazing efforts to manage social distancing. They have sanitizer on arrival, a one way system, dividers between tables, tables are very well spaced and all the staff are wearing masks and face shields.The service was excellent. I really can’t fault it, and staff are very efficient and friendly. The food was really good. I’ve been to quite a few Chinese restaurants and I think this must be one of the best. It was delicious. All in all I’d really recommend it.

Staff were friendly, and welcoming - but the food lacked in many departments Overcooked items constantly, seasoning missing on certain items, then other items massively over salted! - the main courses were ok, but again massively over salted (curry) I wouldn’t go back here as we live a good few miles away, and it wasn’t as good as other all your can eat restaurants in our area

Had a wonderful 13th birthday here. Go there a lot with family. Can’t wait to go there again very soon.

£92 of takeaway food to celebrate my grandsons birthday food was absolutely awful, the rice smelt like it was off so was not able to eat, the rest was dry and not nice at all.The staff didn’t not care, they already had the money! Really gone down hill!!!

Stumbled across this having arrived early evening and looking for a meal. At first a bit off put by the reception and the menu - minimum order value. However that all changed when the food arrived: we were impressed by the quality of the food and friendly table service. When I knocked my drink over replaced, free, without question. Perhaps cost a little more than we anticipated but worth it!

A return visit which I have done over the years. Sunday lunch and not particularly busy possibly due to Coronavirus scaremonger by the media and or the bad weather. Food generally good and plenty if it. Some dishes a little bland for instance the prawn toasts. From past experience the staff are not the most friendly.

My Husband and I went there on Sunday our first visit here (and it won't be our last) The food was amazing full of flavor. Each item ordered was cooked freshly.

This is my local Chinese restaurant and every time we visit is a great experience. The staff seem to go out of their way to make your visit special, always going above and beyond. The food is exceptional and no matter what day of the week we visit there always seems to be a great atmosphere which helps add to the whole experience.

Christmas Eve family get together. Fab food and great attentive staff. Extremely busy evening as expected but staff worked very hard. Great night. Been here dozens of times. Great food. Recommended to all

Well what a gem of a restraunt! It was one of the best places I have eaten in! The welcome was warm and the service and food was was totally amazing! Thank you to David Xu our waiter was a big credit to you as a restraunt

Food was great for the buffet and allowed us to try lots of food we’d like to adventure out and try. But if you want a table and you haven’t booked but there is space, get ready for the rudest possible way to welcome guests. Thrown into corners moved around everything was an ask everything a hindrance for them and almost walked out because of it. And then when bill comes they will add tip on top for service. Try and dispute it and manager aggressively comes over demanding to pay. It is discretionary and optional. Stand your ground and dont be intimidated. It is a shame such a good food place is let down by its staff and manager

If you wish to sample some excellent Chinese food then you will find this restaurant up Moulsham Street on the right hand side. You will receive a very friendly welcome on your arrival & be ushered to your table. It is very popular venue, so you would be wise to book a table in advance to avoid disappointment. They have a very comprehensive menu to suit all tastes & you pay a fixed price for your '' All you can eat experience '' Will be enjoyed by all the family & well worth a visit.

Visited here last week. Have been before and was ok but things have changed. Staff are surly, abrupt even. Starters which we ordered were bland and deep fried. Main course dishes are tiny portions which were served lukewarm. The menu is limited and for the price is not good value. Drinks are pretty expensive and there is a 10% service charged slapped on when our service was not good! I am happy to tip if the service is good but not if it’s rubbish. Don’t waste your time there are a lot better Chinese restaurants.

Parking near the restaurant is problematic with lots of parking restrictions in nearby roads and no large car park. The restaurant is big and spread over two floors. The menu is set price and you can have as many dishes as you like. It’s not a buffet and all food is cooked fresh to order. The service was good and food tasted good as well.There was a reasonable range of dishes but at the end of the evening it did work out quite expensive especially if you dont want too much.

Visited San on a Sunday evening and was quite surprised to see how busy the restaurant was.

Chinese one of my favourite foods and I think this is an excellent 'All you can Eat' restaurant. The price is £17 per person mid-week and £19 (Fri and Sat) and £18 on Sunday which is reasonable - however you do end up spending more on the drink. I have visited this restaurant many times and am never disappointed with the quality of the food. It is an extensive menu and I love the mixed starters which are sublime (I order more sweet and sour sauce as this is sometimes rationed). I also have the Crispy Duck with pancakes (again ordering extra sauce etc.) for mains - my favourites are Crispy Beef with Chilli, Sizzling King Prawns with Ginger and Spring Onion, Kung Po Chicken and Hot and Spicy Squid with Rice and Singapore noodles - who could ask for more - although there are many more dishes on the menu. I would say that each main course dish is a little on the small side but I do not mind this as am usually quite full after the first 2 course. Please remember that you can always order more and I have never known them to worry about how many times you add to your meal. My tip: I do find it quieter to go in the week as the weekends do get very busy and the restaurant can become very loud. I also find the service is slightly downgraded at the weekend. Overall an excellent restaurant for Couples, Family and Friends.

Went there with a friend and the service was poor, says it’s all you can eat but every time we ordered another dish they turned their noses up at us. Had to ask 3 times for a glass of water. However all food was lovely other than the special fried rice, it was almost like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for 30 minutes, dry.

Eat here 3 or 4 times a year after work great value good food and great surroundings we are normally of 12 plus and have eaten plenty and had a good evening

Excellent Oriental Restaurant in Chelmsford - I enjoyed an excellent meal here whilst working in the area. Staff were extremely welcoming, friendly, helpful with happy, smiling faces on my arrival. San's is a smart, clean, simple environment with a nice ambience.

Stopped off early evening, food was lovely and hot, and very tasty. Had the mixed starter platter and duck to start, which I can highly recommend. Beef in oyster sauce is delicious. Staff always friendly, never made to feel rushed.

All you can eat chinese but not a buffet, freshly made from an extensive menu & everything we are was lovely. Favourites were prawn toast & duck pancakes. Nice food & quick, excellent service.

no complaints. The service is crazily quick, arguably too quick if that is possible. One of the nicest Chinese meals I have had in a long time. Clean décor, nice environment, would certainly come back.

The restaurant was busy and although we hadn’t been to SAN for a while, we thought we’d order a takeaway. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great, fairly plain and a bit dry, but won’t return anytime soon.

Under £50 for two with great food (love the chicken noodle soup) Huge menu and well presented. Portions seem to be smaller but you can always order more. Suggest booking especially Friday, Saturdays and sundays.

We had a truly brilliant meal . Loved being able to order multiple dishes and then more if we wanted for a set price (I'm sure some people over do this though). Went for a birthday meal. Had the all you can eat menu. Nice idea, they cook everything you want to order cooked to order. Service was friendly and food was really nice. Chop sticks or spoons. Very good idea and very nice.

This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had in a restaurant

This is the second takeaway from here within a month and both times has been awful. First time, being a Monday night we thought was an off night with over-done chicken balls that tasted like sawdust, crispy beef was like cardboard and chewy squid. Tonight was no different and adding to the previous issues we had raw chicken. Phoned the restaurant to express our disappointment only to be argued with and the manager saying we were liars. This is definitely one of the most expensive Chinese takeaways in Chelmsford and should be avoided at all cost.

Absolutely vile food! Seriously concerned we will be unwell tomorrow from raw chicken and over cooked dry chicken balls! This is the second bad meal we have had and definitely won’t be ordering from there again! Manager was rude and shouted at me down the phone telling me I was wrong. Steer clear at all costs

We’ve just been to San for my sons birthday, there was myself, my husband, son an daughter-in-law, and their 1 year old baby girl. The food was great, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. It would have really helped though if they could supply high chairs, I did enquire beforehand and they said you could bring your own, but this isn’t the easiest thing to do. We all had a good time though.

This was my first time dining at San, I must say the restaurant was heaving and yet the service wasn't in anyway suffering. The staff was lovely and plenty of them, the service faultless and we/I personally found it a pleasant experience from start to finish. It was a great choice of restaurant to dine in as in the past I have felt very rushed in other buffet restaurants, however this was not the case here. Yes I would return, and yes I would happily recommend to others. Food was freshly cooked to order and a great choice to choose from and not forgetting nice sized portions.

26 men out for a pre Christmas meal. Restaurant very accommodating, we took over half of the upstairs. Staff friendly and efficient, the food was tasty and plentiful. Really appreciate that it's cooked fresh and brought to the table. Only one item missing from the menu is my personal favourite, salt and pepper calamari! Never mind, maybe next time. Great evening, good friends and loved the food.

Went for a meal with a friend and was very impressed plenty of well spaced seating area, Excellent polite fast friendly service, and a great selection of food which tasted really good.

Food is good but there was this really unkind server that was very abrupt and rude at times. I did not feel welcome nor did our big group of friends. I guess the price was not too bad but the 10% charge for service really is unfair considering how bad the service was.

If I'm going out for a Chinese rather than takeaway, I will always choose San! Great value for money and great food, and where you can order as many dishes as you'd like, it gives you the opportunity to try new/different things you wouldn't normally get if you were paying for each individual dish. No problems with service. Always get the duck pancakes, they're delicious! Suitable if you're going out as a couple, family or a large party.

Tend to stay away from Chinese as you get too much!!! But i must say i was impressed here with the Quality of every item served to our party of 12, also the way it was served allowing you to have a little or a lot, which suited me fine. It was a shame we had one large table and one small table - it just doesn't work as we appeared to be treated as 2 different parties. As a review mentioned previously the way the ordering of the food and drink was handled leaves a lot to be desired..It was Monday night and it was "heaving" so they may have been understaffed,

San is the best Chinese in Chelmsford value for money is amazing, always delivers amazing food for an all in price. We are never disappointed when we come here. People that moan on here about lack of service etc need to look at the quality of food for the price.

Table booked for 14 only 13 could make it. We were sat at the back with 2 round tables 2 grandmothers sat with 4 children ages from 7 to 9 on one round tables the rest of the party 7 sat on the other round tables. Total confusion taking drinks as well as starters and mains from the table with the children we were never asked as the other table if we wanted more drinks we had to ask for water 3 times. We asked for a jug of water with ice we got glasses of water and a glass of ice. We are still waiting on the food we ordered it was a total shambles and not an experience I would ever want to experience again. To charge a service charge is disgusting as our table did not have the luxury of this service.

I just came back from lunch from San is good service and food is Great.I had Duck noodle soup and i like it very much. The noodle soup is nice is because is like Home cooking and is a Thumbs up and the chili oil taste good as well. I also had prawn dumplings it was nice another recommendation.

great food in clean lovely setting. just don't boom an earlier table as you get rushed through courses. any table after 7.30 and you will be ok!

Visited on a Saturday evening for a surprise 18th birthday party. Food tasted very nice however, the speed of the service to get food, drinks or the waitress attention was extremley slow. Arrived at 6pm and was still there at 11. The waitresses were very snappy and abrupt when asking for anything (especially if they do chips for children or for a fork instead of chopsticks!) The waitress was also very rude to one of my family members and when this was brought up to the manager he laughed it off. The manager was very rude and showed poor management, considering we spent over £600.00 this is not how you would expect your concern to be raised. It tainted the whole evening and we would not be returning due to this.

You have to book ahead if you want a certain time on a Saturday, this restaurant is very popular.

Fantastic value for money. Food is delicious and service was impeccable even though they were very busy. Have been here several times and have always been impressed.

I came here towards the end of November with a small group for my Dad's birthday. The lighting is bright and cheerful and the staff were very friendly, we made the booking over the phone and asked for a quiet table. They were incredibly busy and they still managed to find us a good quiet table like we asked, I was very impressed by the service and the staff.

Right then. So, fancied something to eat at about 9pm tonight (Sunday). Googled The San and was delighted to see it shut at 10pm. Well, that’s a crock of plop for a start. Even though the place may well have been actually still ‘open’, the attitude of the management was shocking. Starting off by telling me that the kitchen was shut, to then offering me a takeaway only service. It took me showing the manager his own restaurant opening times on my phone to make him realise that they were still open.

This was our second visit, the first being very good. However, the food was very disappointing and not as good as previously. Several dishes were not as hot as one would have liked and the crispy shredded beef was soggy and lukewarm. We asked for another, which was not much better. The overall service was extremely poor. On arriving our waiter was not the most pleasant, grim faced at anything we asked and he forgot our seaweed dish, stating we had not ordered it, when we both remembered we had. We asked for soy sauce, which never came and we had to ask for chopsticks. When the bill came, I said I was not going to pay the £3.80 service charge and the waitress said we had to pay it and promptly got the Manager to deal with the situation. We didn't cause a fuss. Just simply explained our experience had not been as positive as last time and that we were not happy with the service. He told me I had to pay it and pointed to the menu where it states the service charge is added to the bill. He became aggressive stating "You will pay it!" I said I would write a review and he replied "You do what you like." Then my daughter told him again how the service had been poor and he suddenly did a U-turn and said okay, we didn't have to pay the service charge. It was all very strange and we both felt extremely uncomfortable as two females eating out by ourselves. We left the restaurant in complete shock after paying our bill and will not be returning.

We have been regular visitors to San for many years. The staff are lovely and even sit us at our regular table when they are able. Drinks are served immediately and the starters follows not far behind. Their service is impeccable. The food is always fresh, piping hot and delicous. Can't recommend enough.

We went to San to celebrate my mums birthday and the food was great with such a varied menu to choose from. The service was great too. We had a lovely night.

I have been in the area for 6 months for work and have gone to San at least once a week since being here. I was legitimately upset that they weren't higher rated until I read the 3 stars review. Aside from someone being ticky-tacky upset that the restaurant wouldn't do single orders for a group of 11 (petty) and someone giving 3 stars because the staff and food were perfect but her child got an 'upset tum' from eating Chinese food, this place is completely legitimate! I love the staff. The food is easily the best Chinese takeaway I have ever eaten. The prices are great for what you get. I have had multiple visitors from the USA since being here and they were blown away by the quality of the menu and the food they ordered. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Lovely warm welcome. Good service , Starters were great. The duck with pancakes was very dry and not that nice. Main courses were lovely. Down side was My son was ill thru the night with an upset tum. Other 3 of us were fine though.

Having read good things about San, we've been keen to try it for a while. Especially as people keep saying what good value it is. Easy to find in Chelmsford's Moulsham Street but you may struggle with parking. (Park closer to town and walk down, parking restrictions are lifted in the evenings.) Received well by the Manager and shown to our table and the restaurant can be best described as clean, light, airy but very basic. Drink orders taken, and what appears to be takeaway menus distributed so that first courses may be ordered. First course arrives in no time at all but unfortunatley it's luke warm, bland and devoid of flavour. Hey ho. Let's order the next course. And again, it's quick out of the kitchen but very, very disappointing. Of the five dishes we tried, only the noodles were of any quality. (Not hard to mess them up.) Waiter was surpised when we chose not to order anymore but if you don't enjoy the food then why bother?Should add that conceptually, the brains behind the order-the-all-you-can-eat buffet if asbsolutely superb. Brilliant concept but unfortunately the standard of cooking seriously lets it down. It really is a case of quantity over quality. Far better Chinese restaurants in town to try. Maybe a little more expensive, but infinitely superior. As a final note, we compared the cost of what we ate, (not drank,) in San and the equivalent cost in our favoured restaurant Zenxi. Surprised to see that there was only a difference of around £5.00 and for the difference in flavour, you can see where we're going back to next time...Would not recommed. Shame, as being a northerner that likes good value, I was really hoping for better.

Great idea all you can eat for a fixed price and the food is cooked to order. Our food was well cooked plenty of it staff were good and plentifull so no difficulty in getting served great value and easy way to try diffrent things will defenatly go back again

Just had my first meal here with friends.....won't be going back. Food was really nice but the staff were rude and very unhelpful. We were a group of 11 adults paying for the buffet and we asked if one member of our group could pay for a single dish or the child price buffet due to dietry requirements and they flat out refused. They said she could bring her own food in like McDonald's! You also have to order a drink from the menu when you do buffet, I wanted water but they said no had to be a paid for drink. And the final straw was when we challenged the wine bill and they had charged us for more expensive wine than we had ordered. They said the waiter had brought over the wrong wine. We said that was not our error and we didn't think that had happened. So the manager called the waiter over and reprimanded him in front of us and told him it was coming out of his wages! Poor guy looked so awkward. Terrible way to treat staff and paying customers. Never again San Chinese �

We went on a Sunday for a celebration. The menu was anything you wanted for £15.90As many dishes as you wanted. The quality of the food was outstanding. Served family style. Very impressed. You did have to buy a drink but it took the guess work out of what the. I'll was or what to order. Service was good and authentic.

Not the usual all you can eat, help yourself buffet. Choose the food from the menu, course by course. The attentive staff can give advice if you are overwhelmed by the choice. Nice touches - finger bowls provided with the messy stuff, hot flannel provided at the end of your meal (and refreshing slice of watermelon)

Table booked for 4 people but when we arrived was put on a round table for 6 so felt very spaced out in seating and not together. Service was very prompt ushering for your drinks order. Although alcohol was ordered the waiter kept asking if we wanted to order wine. In the end we had to firmly tell him "no"! After that service was slap dash with no smile or warmth. Ordered satay chicken and Thai fish cakes with starters - couldn't understand why we got 3 pieces of each when there was 4 of us, so when we asked for more we got quizzed how many? Food was very average - on asking a waitress about a certain dish she couldn't tell us as she said food was ordered in, so obviously not prepared and made on the premises. Have always enjoyed my visits here but in my opinion food and service has seriously gone down hill.

Even on a busy evening, the manager sorted us out with a walk-in corner table and the staff were helpful all evening. Recommend the Szechuan King Prawns, awesome!

Came here for a friends birthday meal. Food was good but I have to say the staff was so rude we arrived and was missing 2 people due to babysitting issues, every parent goes through this and instead of saying "that's ok not a problem" the man tutted and I just thought how rude, we sat down and with in 2seconds they was at the table asking what we wanted to drink, we hadn't even had time to look at the drink menu. Then felt like we was being rushed to order the food as well. After the meal they was wiping down the tables and I thought they could wait till we have gone before wiping down the tables it's like they want you to eat and go which shouldn't happen you want to go out for a meal and feel comfortable, as it's not that often we get to go out.

We didn't book a table but wasn't a problem, it did fill up quickly and there was more than enough staff on shift. The service was very quick & the staff were very good at their jobs. Very polite & welcoming also we liked the cleaning of the tables after every dish & the food was served fast & hot This was our first time here, we walked as it wasn't far from home. Could do with a car park? Only a lay by out the front, most roads are permits too.Would visit again

having being used to eating more authentic Chinese food, we were disappointied with what Chelmsford has had to offer. However this place so far is the most authentic we have had. Good choice of food from the eat all you can on the set price and it didn't disappoint. Good ribs dish, nice crispy aromatic duck, very flavoursum prawns and the food came out very quickly which is great! Service was also good, always checking to see we are OK and a nice place to eat with the family. The place is clean and nice to be in.

Went to San two months on trot for our monthly nt out - as we enjoyed it first time. Just as good we will have to decide if it will be 3times.

Been to San twice and enjoyed my experience both times!The food is very delicious and unlike some Chinese restaurants you are not left feeling hungry a few hours later!We went on a Friday night so it was very busy, but service was quick. Staff can be a little abrupt but it did not spoil our evening. The acoustics are not brilliant when it's busy, especially for my dad and sister who suffer with hearing. I would highly recommend this place, great food and the bill was reasonable, especially as we had spirits and beers.

6 of us visited on a Tuesday. Not busy and we went for the all you can eat menu of £15.50 per person plus 10% service charge. Food was great. Plentiful and with a choice of over 120 dishes we had a good variety of dishes between us. Waiter asked us on more than one occasion if we had enough to eat and was very attentive albeit not very talkative! Would definitely go back again.
