Excellent, the food, the restaurant, the views. We ate here many years ago and it was good, unfortunately it went downhill the last time we visited, but we were recommended to try it again now it is under new management. They have done an amazing job. The food was excellent, the service was great, the staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this hotel. Will definitely eat here again.

Popped in for Sunday dinner, starter and pudding were nice. The roast however was not good. We had lamb and beef, both not good. Watery veg (water on the plate), hard potatoes and what appeared to be sandwich meat you can buy in the supermarket. I left the potatoes but everything else was at least edible. I might give it another try if passing, they had a curry menu, but would not try the roast again. The kids meal was okish but mine didn't like it.

Visited the brasserie with friends for pre-theatre dinner and we were all very impressed with the food and the attentiveness of staff, nothing was too much trouble and they ensured we were looked after. Accessibility was good for anyone with impaired mobility which is always good to know. There was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and, although we were early, it was beginning to get busy on a Friday night. We all thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and will definitely be back and hopefully stay for longer next time.

We popped in for a cup of tea and decided to stay for Sunday Lunch. We are really happy we did, the food was lovely. We both had a Sunday Roast Beef Lunch, which was served piping hot, with plenty of meat, gravy and vegetables, my husband also had a dessert "Apple Crumble with Custard" which was also very good. It has been a few years since we last dined here, the Hotel & Restaurant has now been completely refurbished to a very good standard The Restaurant was spotlessly clean, also the toilets are now updated, very clean and very much improved since our last visit. On arrival we had a friendly greeting from Grahame who was working in the San Clu Reception. Zoe was our waitress, she was a breath of fresh air, cheerful, friendly, happy to help, she answered all our questions re our food orders, and she even sang a little song as she disappeared into the kitchen. After todays visit we would be happy to recommend the San Clu Restaurant to our friends & family, we fully intend to return in the near future.

A group of eleven came down for the new years break. This review is in two parts. First night we all ordered from the bar menu. Personally I thought the food was hot and plentiful. This opinion was mirrored throughout the group One of which was vegetarian, good choice and tasty. Good table service and lovely staff, thank you Jodie and Salvatore. We also booked the meal and entertainment for new years eve. The buffet was excellent, amazing choice of cold cut meats, salad, pasta. Hot food Lasagna curry and hot homemade pies. The desserts where really nice. Really good choice from cheesecake to bannofi pie to apple crumble. Something for everyone. Entertainment was good, not my particular taste, but involved everybody and made a good inclusive evening. The roulette table, just for fun made for a good night too Absolutely we will return. Highly recommended Thank you to all the staff at front of house and bar restaurant Happy new year.

Great hotel room and stay! Terrible food! Went for lunch/dinner, decided to have the burger, and my partner ordered the same, The burger patty was dripping in dark brown/black grease, dabbed off with napkin and started eating, no taste to it apart from oil! The lettuce was limp and wilted, came with chunky chips which were also saturated in the same tasting old oil. Left more than half of each dinner. In the morning we came down for the continental breakfast, this was so disgusting! Green mould on the bread for toasting, had a look for some non mouldy bread and toasted but tasted terrible so left it after one bite, so decided to have fruit instead, this consisted of sour off fruit with squidgy grapes and browning pineapple? Left that too, still hungry I toasted a crumpet, this was rock hard and stale! I gave up on eating after this point and poured a coffee, not even warm! Left the table, went up to the room to collect bags and checked out immediately. Will not stay again, which is a shame as nice suite with great view. Need new chef and vigilant attentive staffing

Came here as Toby carvery shut due to unforeseen circumstances, and San clue to a roast every weekday , however the quality is awful, restaurant was empty so there's no excuse , every visit to the San clu the roast potatoes have been far from crispy ,more like reheated five times, yorkies look fab but taste the opposite to fresh, when you spend nerly £12 on roast chicken you expect more, and my main complaint would be the younger man behind the bar talking food orders and serving drinks, was extremely unfriendly couldn't even crack a smile and we weren't asked once if everything was ok, considering the place was empty I think that's pretty poor , I think the manager needs to re think the staff and the food quality before the place is ran into the ground , high prices for rubbish quality and service

I came for a Sunday lunch with my friends and partner, there was no issues with cleanliness and the food was fantastic although a little overpriced for what it was. Staff were friendly and polite although one of our mains was obviously missed off. This was an honest mistake from the waitress however we were told the wait would be two minutes, this was not the case. We had nearly finished our meals before my friend received his meal. This was a little off putting! I understand mistakes but honesty is always appreciated as we are reasonable people. My friend’s dessert was ordered and took half an hour to come. Although these are only teething problems, I would not expect this from such a highly recommended establishment.

The brocolli was good but the carrots and beans were soggy and overcooked. The gravy was disgusting, mainly consisting of globules of fat. Why is it that you go to a restaurant a couple of times and its lovely and then what happens?! You get to look forward to it and its a disappointment. The good points; the food is not frozen rubbish. Its nice quality. The service is good and friendly and quite quick. I had the lamb shank, which was meant to come with a mint and rosemary sauce, but the sauce was more like a stew. V odd and had no taste of either. It was a big shank and v tender but odd sauce. The cauliflower cheese which I neither ordered or wanted had gone all over my other veg. The onion rings? ? Were gross tbh. My husband had the lamb grills. Nice but the cauliflower cheese?! Ruined it. Mother in law had roast. The cauliflower cheese was everywhere? And the stuffing ball (with beef) was orange?? My father in laws cumberland sausage was small but tasted nice. The dessert was small and not much choice. Cost plus drinks 70.00. Could it have been nice. Definitely.

The first time I visited the San Clu, I was a small child, taken in there by my parents. Unfortunately, it has changed a lot since then, and in my view, not for the better. What was the bar is now some kind of beauty spa, or it could be a conference centre. The bar is now in the dining room, where they used to hold dances and live music events. The staff are hard working and friendly, but is some cases, their lack of English language skills can cause some confusion. However, what they lack in linguistic skills, they make up for in smiles and personality. ^There is nothing wrong with the San Clu, it is just that I remember it as it used to be - and I miss it.

This hotel has been here for an age yet keeps pulling customers in with the beautiful view and the food they bring to the table. We were served by out waiting staff who were polite and attentive and we all ordered. I had the large roast pork and it didn't disappoint. The Yorkshire puddings were fluffy and light whilst the potatoes were full of flavour. It was a lovely meal and I finished every bit. My family had other bits including lasagna which was large as was the macaroni cheese whilst my daughter had children's chicken nuggets which also was a generous portion. We really enjoyed our meal and if your looking for a nice homely comfortable meal whilst in Ramsgate then look up the San Clu and head along where I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

Puddings were either frozen or packaged, did not appear to have been freshly cooked with fresh ingredients for example the Pavlova was 2shop bought meringue shells stuck together with ice cream. My friends and I went here for afternoon tea using a Groupon voucher which meant that it would only cost us £7 each, rather than the usual £14.50. I wasn't sure what to expect based on other reviews, but we really enjoyed it! We warned them that I was gluten-free when we booked. I thought it was a different touch to ask what sandwich filling we would each like, I think in some ways this is better because sandwiches are not wasted, and there were quite a few options. I had the beef and horseradish sandwiches, and a slice of toblerone chocolate cake and a large slice of madeira cake, with a couple of very nice strawberries. Overall we really enjoyed the food, and I'm glad they were able to provide such a tasty gluten-free alternative. The lady next to us should have been screened off when paramedics arrived and she was given a sick bowl as she was ill, while we were still having our meal at the table next to her. The staff showed a lack of duty of care towards the other customers,( every sympathy for the sick lady) who had the right to enjoy their meal and evening which was a costly and special evening for everyone there. Must say that on this occasion, we feel we certainly did not enjoy the evening regarding food, music and service, nil marks for all 3, from all 3. We come here every time we stay in town to visit family and when we first came it was a great little restaurant. However, when visiting this time round the service had just gone downhill. The food took over an hour to arrive and it wasn't because the restaurant was busy, the waitresses were friendly enough and did their best when things got busy but service was delayed as they didn't know what we had ordered. The menu has changed and is much shorter in the restaurant. If you are forced to sit in the restaurant as there is no room in the bar you can only order from the smaller menu. We stayed here as well and I usually like the continental breakfast but on a couple of the mornings things fell short right at the start of service and the coffee machine could use a more frequent clean.

Choose this restaurant cause it used to have a great menu featuring a lovely mixed grill. Went there tonight to find the menu had changed and mixed grill no longer available. Asked to see the owner but he was nowhere to be seen so instead got the duty manager who couldn't have cared less and had a dreadful attitude. My birthday dinner ruined and i am now at home in tears.

Only live up the road but hadn't been here for nearly a year but decided to pop down as fancied a roast, the prices have gone up (to be expected) however service seems to have got much better, children offered coloring bits, served straight away, staff very welcoming and the food was lovely.

We had breakfast here and paid for the kippers, smoked haddock and full english. Thought it was a bit pricey. although on the positive there was a good coffee machine with lattes etc. Plenty of fruit, cereals ,juices, scones, toast, croissants which we had but weren't charged any extra for it. Veggie sausage was good. Would love Halal at some of these places.

Nice place to eat. Reasonable prices. Lovely dishes. Staff friendly. Good sea views. Cannot comment on hotel, we only in restaurant to eat. Not used washroom facilities so unable to comment myself but my sister said they were fine. Restaurant roomy enough for disabled access. Glass of tap water asked for. Served free of charge. No lemon but did get ice. Nice. This restaurant does have huge screen showing sport that might be inconvenient if you don't like sport especially if there might be some big match on. Also a family place so children will be in here. There is ample roadside parking directly outside this hotel/restaurant. We ate in the bar area but there is a restaurant area partitioned off. Partition is only waist height so you would still see big screen and all patrons in the bar. For you to decide if that's a good or bad thing. Four of us in our party, we would recommend the San Clu.

Very good variety, well cooked and plenty of it, served by pleasant staff. Two of us had the beef with cob and I had the lamb shank all of which were excellent and served with a good variety of fresh vegetables. The choice of wines was also good and very well priced.

We popped in to the restaurant for Sunday lunch! Never again!!! We are not fussy eaters and are usually very pleased with the food served. We have eaten in the restaurant many times but had never tried the roast. When the food arrived it looked delicious. Then when I started to eat it I noticed it was swimming in fat and grease which was supposed to be the gravy!!! I scrapped as much grease and fat off my food as I could but the fatty, greasey gravy had soaked into the food and ruined my meal! The vegetables were a bit hard and tasted of fat! The roast beef was so tough I needed a serrated knife to cut it and it tasted of fat! The yorkshires looked delicious but when I tried mine all I could taste was the soaked in grease and it was not cooked in the middle! The pork my husband had was a bit chewy and all his food was covered in greasy, fatty gravy!!!

I stayed in the Comfort Inn ( and left one day early because of room!) and had one evening meal in the hotel. I was directed into the restaurant and found that it was the hotel bar as well as the restaurant, which meant I had to go to the bar in order to know where I should find my table. A bar person pointed me in the direction of a table that I might like to choose. The menu arrived and it seemed that everything was accompanied by chips. I'd hoped for fresh fish...no way. However the steak (and chips!!) that I ordered was well cooked, and the service was very good.Menu very unimaginative.

We booked for 45 at easter for a double birthday celebration. We booked 6 tables. Upon arrival there were only 5, the extras squeezed on each table. It caused us a logistical issue with family units and children especially with odd numbers. The hosts were not willing to change and in the end we found a table from elsewhere to fit children with parents. The meal was ok value wise.We had chosen to supply our own wine and pay corkage at £5-50 per bottle as they were not willing to negotiate on price per bottle. They did nothing for that money. We opened and distributed the wine.At the end we were over charged. Whilst they did correct it I did not feel we were accommodated as customers, especially bearing in mind we were paying over £600.I would not go back.

Go there quite often as they offer good quality food for excellent value. This place used to be even better before their management introduced this silly new menu that causes a lot of problems if you want to have bar food in a restaurant or something like fish & chips on Sunday afternoon... You get what you pay for, you can easily have a meal for two with drinks for about £22, which is extremely good but do not expect 5 star service with silver cutlery and ironed napkins etc for that money. Anyway, If you decide to come here and like Indian food I would strongly recommend to try their Mango Chicken or Chicken Biryani (be aware of huge portion!) with a pint of local ale - Gads N3.

We live just round the corner from the San Clu/Comfort Inn and often pop in for something to eat. If you sit in the bar, you can order anything from the menu. However, if you sit in the restaurant you can't order food from the bar menu which is on the last page of the menu. Once you get this clear, it's fine. The portions are excellent and the "2 meals for £10" between 3-6pm are good value for money. They're a bit smaller than the main menu equivalents, but for £10 it's more than enough. Their roast dinners are very good, the lasagne is home made and yummy and the garlic bread with cheese is delicious. The liver and bacon, steak and cob and lamb shank are also excellent - tender meat in a delicious sauce/gravy. What does let them down is the vegetables - don't go there expecting cordon bleu or you'll be disappointed. There don't seem to be enough staff to cope when it's busy, particularly on Sunday lunchtimes, so we always go in at around 5pm when it's calmed right down - then the service is good and the food is served quickly and it's always piping hot. It's a safe bet to visit when we don't know where else to go!

Having eaten here before for lunch and also having used this hotel lobby/bar/restaurant as a meeting place with friends, we decided to eat here prior to going to the cinema across the road. When we arrived around 6.00 the restaurant was fairly quiet and plenty of seats so we chose a seaview which was lovely. You have to order at the bar, we thought this was probably just at lunchtimes, but no in the evenings too.Our meals arrived, we realised then you have to help yourself to cutlery and condiments off the waiter's trolley. I had ordered Fillet Steak and my Husband ordered Chicken Korma. My fillet steak was very fatty, so I didn't make a fuss I thought my husband had probably ordered the rump by mistake it certainly didn't look or taste like Fillet, but even for rump it was very fatty and by the time I cut that off, there was very little steak left, the chips were tasty, dry and crispy but the fresh seasonal vegetables were boiled to death and were limp and didn't taste very nice so they too were left. My husband's Korma was a bit too dark, and didn't look very nice, he said that it tasted like a Tesco or Iceland cheap meal for one, and the Naan bread was like cardboard and again tasted like it had come from the cheap section of a supermarket. We didn't bother to stay for dessert as nothing on the menu looked particularly enticing.I would use it again for a snack at lunchtimes but I wouldn't bother for dinner.

The food we had was ok, had to wait quite a while to be served,We decided to sit outside as it was a nice day,The waitress brought our meals, plonked them on the table and walked away,No cutlery in condiments, nothing. We had to go inside and ask for everything. Waited a couple if minutes, and just helped ourselves out of the cupboard.Clearly not enough staff, or staff that actually care! Poor service, ok food at a reasonable price, You get what you pay for.....

We ate in our hotel restaurant on our last evening having been disappointed on previous evenings in what Ramsgate had to offer on the culinary front. This was by far the best meal we had on the trip. We had starters of chicken tikka and cheesy garlic bread , big portions and delicious. Mains were ribs, steak and liver an bacon all good but my steak was a little tough. The meals came with lots of chips , onions mushrooms and vegetables. These were are served on the plate with the meat but I would have preferred these on the side. Service was quick , friendly and efficient. Bill came to £42 for 3 people with a bottle of wine which was fantastic value for a huge meal.Much better than the other top listed trip advisor restaurants we tried in the area.

When my party of 5 arrived at the restaurant we had to wait a bit before anyone came to us to point out where to sit. Only two waitresses were there the whole time on a busy Saturday lunchtime and they were the only ones serving behind the bar as well, so they were jumping from one job to the next. I was told when I ordered something from the 'bar menu' that I wasnt allowed as we were not at the bar!Had to wait over 45 minutes before our food came, and it certainly wasnt worth the wait, we all had various dishes which were mediocre, (although my mother said her roast beef was very nice and tender). Worst thing about the meal were the soggy, cold inedible vegetables, which were green beans and carrots. Even if I had asked for them to be heated up they would not have been any more appetising, as they were just a soggy mess and looked about 3 days old. I did mention to waitress after meal about the vegetables of which my partner and myself left on the plate, but she was too rushed off her feet to take much of an interest, and i had not the time or inclination to ask to speak to a manager, which there didn't seem to be any sign of. Needless to say none of us will be returning again.

I have only ever eaten here twice, and in truth, the food is not bad at all. Unfortunately, you have to wait a long time for it. The waiting staff, let's just say that English is not usually their first language, have trouble in understanding your order, the food takes a long time to arrive, and the bar is often left unatttended for long periods of time. The front of house staff work very hard, that is evident, it is just that there are not enough of them, as they often have to fulfil two or more roles at once. If the management were to sort this out, they would have a half decent restaurant.
