I went to Samuel Pepys to meet some friends for the karaoke. And didn’t expect the atmosphere it had. When you walk in you are instantly greeted with a big smile from the girls, Chelsea and Andrea. They both went above and beyond to help my deside what I wanted to drink. Not only do they have a great selection but the prices are incredible. Even though they don’t do food. They let you bring in food from outside places. Some people didn’t clean there mess and off the staff went to clean it up with smiles on there faces. Definitely recommend. Will be returning

Atmosphere was great, we had such a good night in Samuel Pepys and the place had such a good atmosphere and welcoming vibe to it. Not only that but the staff were so welcoming and friendly, the couple who run it couldn’t have been more accommodating and went out their way to have a conversation with us and make us feel welcome as we are not from around the local area. Service was 10/10, there was always somebody available at the bar when we went up for the next round of drinks and the selection of drinks was great, even on the 0% alcohol options! Overall a great experience at Samuel Pepys, couldn’t fault it and would highly recommend if you’re looking for a some drinks with atmosphere or the place is even big enough to sit out the way if you are looking for a quieter drink - we will be returning on our next visit.

I really enjoyed my visit to Samuel Pepys. The price of the drinks was very attractive but the quality of the drinks and the friendliness of the staff has to be the highlight of our visit. It says a lot about a business when you see staff in there on their day off. I particularly loved the beer garden outside, which created for a great ambience in the sun! Great community pub. I would highly recommend.

Worst pub in Huntingdon for customer service (as there isn’t any) the couple who run the pub couldn’t be less interested in their customers if they tried. We live behind the pub and use it as our local but if we went in there 7 days a week they would act as if it’s the 1st time we have been in there. No interest in getting to know the people that are bringing money into the pub. ie Saturday afternoon 5.30 premiership football on and only the landlady behind the bar, no real interest in serving people and constantly leaving the bar unattended with 5 to 8 people waiting to be served. Go the the Market inn much better

I went there for a few drinks with my friend on Friday night after 10pm. The bartender (an older blonde) was very unfriendly. I ordered a single Jack Daniel with colk from her several times. Every time she pretended that she dosen't understand me. She gave me a double drink every time. When I said: I'd like some colk with it. She shouted at me: What are you talking about, why didn't you tell me about it earlier? I replied: I have said about it several times. I went away with drinks to my friend. The woman who served me a few minutes later passed our table and made a disgusting noise at us as if she wanted to vomit on us. After such a racist experience, we will never go there again. I don't recommend going there. Several times I was tricked into buying a double drink even though I ordered a single. The woman who served me drinks shouldn't work there at all.

Went there for New Years Eve to see a great singer we know. It was a great night! Alex, the owner, and the 2 lads, Jim and Ryan, were great hosts all night. It was hectic for them but they bent over backwards to look after us all. Alex sent over 2 bottles of prosecco for our table of 6 and even offered us a 3rd even though it was only meant to be a glass of bubbles each. Really good buffet food bought to our table, too much to eat but it was shared around the pub so not wasted. Great night, singer and atmosphere and brilliant staff. What a way to see in the New Year. Thank you Alex and the team 👏

The staff claimed to know nothing of the booking, but it was quiet anyway so no harm done. Unfortunately we waited for ages until some guy called Alex who I assume was in charge eventually came over to see us. He was very aggressive and accused me of threatening him, which I did not. He looked drugged up to the eyeballs to me, so to avoid confrontation we just walked out and went somewhere else. We have since been told by locals that there are problems with staff leaving and unpaid bills for entertainment he has booked. Won't be going there again in a hurry.

What a delightful surprise this place was! We were very warmly welcomed and felt very comfortable here and safe too with the pandemic measures they have still adopted here. especially with little touches like hand sanitiser on the tables! Fab idea! We hadn’t decided where to eat but seeing a full menu was being served, we opted for the two prawn starters and a steak for main. The food was outstanding and I highly recommend the beer battered prawns and chilli sauce! The portions were generous and the quality was so good, and the value for money was unbelievable for a town in Cambridgeshire! I genuinely cannot recommend this place highly enough, I’m glad it’s not been a victim of the pandemic and I think it’ll be firmly on my to do list every time I visit Huntington. Thanks for a wonderful evening and good luck in the future to all your staff We will see you soon

Had not been back to this establishment since last summer as one of the people in our lunchtime party was disappointed with her food and the way the owner handled it had put us off, however we tried it again this lunchtime. The place at 1pm was almost empty, the music tinny and the food VERY disappointing, they have definitely cut back, I honestly had to ask them if I had been given a child's portion! and the meal itself was not cheap. My colleague who had a ciabatta with fish fingers which had been previously been served with salad and fries was presented to her on its own again not cheap, The Samuel Pepys is over priced for what you get and the quality and standards seem to have slipped, service was pleasant enough but there is no atmosphere and I know we won't be going back nor will anyone from our office.

As a foreigner who will be spending a year in Huntingdon England, I want to experience pub life. I really liked Samuel Pepys as I felt relaxed and at ease there. I'm a lager drink (not very British, I think, and I will make an attempt to develop a taste for ales or bitters). Anyway, there was a good choice in lagers for me. Although I am not British, I am a "nationalist" in that I will not drink beers not produced in the UK. I enjoyed both of the British lagers that I tried out.I availed myself of the newspaper rack as I sipped on my lager waiting for my wife. The service is very pleasant and warm and helpful and friendly. The pub fare included main plates of the day, so we went traditional with a meat pie and the Friday fish and chips. I found the offerings to be quite good.By luck, the pub was offering a singer with guitar, with a nice repertoire of songs ("goldies" from the past many decades). She even roped me in to stay for another beer with her outstanding rendition of the many decades old "Don't Fence Me In".Overall, for me it was a pleasant and enjoyable pub experience.

“Caz and Trev, give us a bev. Caz and trev please give us a bev”. The owners are a delight and ought to be very proud of their establishment. Rich in history too: Young San Miguel Pep(ys) Guardiola was a Spanish merchant back in the 1600’s. He came over to search for gold, but instead found food and beer and soon decided to start a family business in Huntingdon. He named the business “Samuel Pepys”, an English translation of his name. Anyhow, enough of the history. I have much history of my own with this pub. I’ve had many wonderful experiences here and I’d certainly recommend it to all. Bearing in mind we were the only people in the pub the bar man's advise was that we are bigger than the barman and should deal with the situation. Most of the group were satisfied with the meals although one person got something that was not ordered and two people got nothing at all, even alowing for a sudden amount of people arriving the service was not great and missing meals as well all in all maybe a good place for small parties but can not cope with large amounts.

Reasonably priced food but, highly recommend the rib-eye, perfectly cooked and lovely flavour. If you are up for a starter, the deep fried brie wedges.......mmmm. The only criticism I have is the sauces are not on the menu, they do a fiery pepper sauce and a sublime blue cheese sauce. Put them on the menu please, I would be happy to pay for sauce even without steak !! This pub/restaurant is pleasant enough the staff friendly and a good level of customer service .The food is ok and again is well cooked and presented and good value for money and a good choice but personally cant say its anything special .Would say its ore café food than restaurant food .Generally ok during the day but to noisy in the evenings especially at weekends .

Great busy pub (not too crowded) that has a buzzing yet relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff who add to the whole vibe. Fantastic place and would recommend as a port of call on a night out. This has become a great meeting place in the town to start nights out as the atmosphere sets the tone for the rest of the evening.

This is a great family pub, although quite small. The food we ordered was great value for money and got to our table fairly quickly. There is often live music in the evenings and a lovely beer garden. You don't find many rowdy idiots in here, perfect for a quiet few.

Stumbled upon Samuel Pepys while walking around the High Street area of Huntingdon on a recent business trip.Staff was very welcoming. Was a really friendly crowd of patrons. I had the Fish & Chips and they were very good.A good choice for some pleasant pub food if in Huntingdon.

Our last visit to The Pepys was for a friend's birthday there was a very large group of us approx 20 people all booked in to eat. The food was excellent and the portions well let just say you won't leave feeling hungry and all for a great price. I am a frequent visitor to Samuel Pepys as it is in my opinion one if the nicest pubs in town, it has a nice atmosphere and the beer garden is lovely especially in the warmer months. All in all top notch

We descended on this pub in late July for lunch on a Thursday. The pub was not busy so we soon found a suitable set of tables for our party of 7.The menu is quite extensive and varied but is mainly the type of food yuo would expect from a pub/restaurant.The food was well cooked and piping hot and served reasonably promptly given the size of the order. The prices are reasonable as are the bar prices for drinks.Seats are mainly wooden so not the most comfortable venue I have been to .but nevertheless served its purpose

Great selection of fresh sandwiches and dishes of the day. Samuel Pepys also has a decent selection of beer and spirits. The prices are pretty average when comparing the the rest of the area. This is a great spot for lunch, especially on a sunny day where you can enjoy your meal on the outdoor patio.

stop for an evening meal, quite a long wait before the food was served and then the extra chips were missing as the staff member had missed this off our order, it was rectified quickly and I was then asked to pay, the ham egg and chips were very good however, the salad was poor and to cap it all we found an hair in it, we told the waitress at the end of the meal and all we got was a sorry, will not be stopping there again

Keeps a couple of decent ales, and the food is pretty good. Down side is that they used be able to adapt for Gluten Free diets, but this has stopped, with the exception of 'A Salad', which is not really what you want when it is a miserable, cold, winters day, and also a bit dull in summer, when you can see what else everyone else can have.

The drinks are cheap, staff are nice and the pub has a really nice interior! The only thing that disturbs me is when a live band plays its really loud you can't hear your friends speaking to you which is annoying!

We popped in at around midday day and got served straight away at the bar. It was great weather and we got out in the beer garden which looks to have been improved recently. The food came out promptly and was very tasty. The staff were polite and friendly. I'd highly recommend!

I love this pub. It's great. So many fun filled evenings that have resulted in a drunken walk home. Recently we've also been going for lunch and the food is excellent. Reasonably priced with prompt service. Thank you.

Very much enjoy going to The Samuel Pepys. It always has a welcoming atmosphere, good food at good prices and great entertainment. Also I'd like to mention that sometimes reviewers over look the time it takes for food to come out or the waiting time at the bar and Sam Pepys is very very good on this.5 stars.

Visited here whilst staying locally. Lovely contemporary refurbished old inn in the centre of town. Prices were realistic and the food typical pub fayre. I had a designer burger minus the bun - excellent home made fries. The interior of the ob is lovely. The service was poor and to order a desert proved an impossible task unless you were prepared to be ignored for a considerable time whilst the staff chatted then told to order you must move 3 feet! We drank our wine and left.It is rare I give a poor review but this place could be so very much better if the staff remembered that this is a hospitality industry!

I have eaten quite a few times in this pub and I've always had great food with good service. The music they do on steak nights and occasionally a weekend is fab, just the right touch. Their burgers are especially good. If I had 1 criticism it's that I could eat at least 2 wraps when they give you 1, they are that yummy. ;-) I will come back & eat here soon.

It's not often that I come away from a pub or restaurant thinking "wow, that was really good". Seeing no end of cheap chain pubs popping up with their low quality (generally, some buck the trend) food and non-existent atmosphere is enough to make even the most unadventurous foodie cry.It is with great pleasure, therefore, that I have found the Samuel Pepys in Huntingdon. As I settled down for a 'lunchtime snack' I was made welcome by the staff and was pleasantly surprised by the size of the menu. As soon as I saw the 'Big Sam' burger and the Sticky Toffee pudding, it's fair to say that the 'snack' turned into more of a 'meal'.The burger was great - two 6oz steak burgers with bacon, cheese and salad. Dressed leaves and a sizeable portion of fries on the side. £9.50 is what you'd expect to pay in a standard pub for this, but you won't get the same quality. The burgers looked home-made and were succulent - the fries were crispy yet fluffy on the inside. The Sticky Toffee pudding though. Words cannot describe the fudgey delight that entered my mouth, it was beautiful.10/10 for the Samuel Pepys. Great value, great food.

I've been to eat and drink at the Samuel Pepys a number of times. The garden in the summer is beautify for a drink. This evening however we tried stake night (last thursday of every month). Cannot fault the food or the atmosphere. Live band was good, although we did not stay long. Good food, good beer and very nice surroundings one of the best pubs in town.

We had a fantastic time, we had the Bottomless Brunch which came with a meal and as many cocktails you could drink in 90 mins. We managed 6 each and all were delicious! Staff very friendly and all drinks came quickly. We’ll be booking again!

This place is quirky and the idea behind it is really nice, full of interesting events and activities, selling art, craft and music. However, there are a few flaws: staff could be more welcoming (they seem so busy running around without smiling even when they don’t have many clients), but more importantly the place is not clean enough. Every time I went tables were sticky and had left over crumbles and food from previous customer, you pick up one of the free books on display and they are all dusty, same as the table games… it doesn’t give you much trust on the state of the kitchen. Menu is varied enough with an eye for intolerances and vegan/vegetarian which is great however quality of the food is just ok, a bit bland and coffee very substandard even compared to a chain like Costa. The place has surely potential, the idea is great, but there is surely room for improvement.
